  • Is data guard supported on mainframe zLinux? Anything limitation?

We have Oracle database 9.2.0.4 running on mainframe zLinux. We are thinking of building a data guard for HA.
Is there data guard supported on mainframe zLinux? Anything limitation for zLinux version? can I use 9.2.0.4 on one side, 11.1 on other side?

I am aware of some limitations regarding the logical standby with different chipsets (not supported in one of my environments), but nothing specific in your case. Since limitations on IBM zSeries Based Linux (z/Linux) are not mentioned specifically, it might mean that most of the features would work with the same db version and os version. On the other hand, it might mean there are limitations not discovered or reported to Oracle support.

  • What is the role of Lns process in oracle 10g data guard

    Hi ,
plz help me out to find out the actual working of lns process in oracle 10g data guard
when i use SYNC redo transport
the output of v$managed_stanbdy is like that ..
    PROCESS PID STATUS CLIENT_PROCESS GR# SEQ#
    ARCH 9258 CLOSING ARCH 2 498
    ARCH 9260 CLOSING ARCH 1 499
    ARCH 9262 CLOSING ARCH 2 496
    ARCH 9264 CLOSING ARCH 1 497
    LGWR 9206 CLOSING LGWR 2 482
its not display any info about lns, thats means lns is not working in SYNC redo transport mode ?
but if i changed it to ASYNC then the out put of v$managed_stanbdy is like this ..
PS PID STS CPS GR# SEQ#
    ARCH 9258 CLOSING ARCH 1 509
    ARCH 9260 CLOSING ARCH 2 510
    ARCH 9262 CLOSING ARCH 1 505
    ARCH 9264 CLOSING ARCH 2 508
    LGWR 9206 CLOSING LGWR 1 503
    LNS 10528 CLOSING LNS 2 510
Now it display all the info about lns process...
i read in oracle documentation that lns process send redo data from primary,( through network service ) to RFS on standby side.
but first output means that lns is not working,if not then which process send redo from primary to RFS on standby ?
i also read in some blog that lgwr use some extra buffer size from primary db SGA ,to write redo in that buffer ,ans lns read redo from that buffer and send it to RFS on stanby side,
i m totally confused ..can u plz help me with correct logic behind this .
    thanx in advance.

    Hello,
On the primary database when you run the v$managed_standby, it shows up the LNS process as this process sends redo info to the standby database and on the standby database the RFS process receives the redo information.
So on the primary database when you query the v$managed_standby, it shows up LNS and on the standby database when you query the v$managed_standby it shows up RFS. Please let us know where you are running the query.

  • Oracle 10gR2 Data guard physical or logical standby server?

    Hi
We are planing to implement an Oracle 10gR2 data guard standby server for DR purposes, I found out that there are two type of standby server which is logical and physical standby server. I want to know which one is preferable? in term of complexity of setup and maintenance?
    regards

Well it depends on what you mean by maintenance. I found the physical standby to be very little trouble at all ; however the logical standby has restrictions on it that the physical standby does not. In essence the physical standby merely digest archive logs; where as the logical standby uses logminer like functionality to process sql statements much like Oracle streams.
    Hope that helps,

  • Oracle 9i Data Guard Documentation

    Hi,
I am trying to get documentation on Oracle 9i Data Guard.
When I am at this url: http://www.oracle.com/technology/deploy/availability/htdocs/DataGuardOverview.html
I then activate the link on the right for "Oracle 9i Data Guard Documentation".
However, the link moves me to "Oracle 9i list of books", instead of where I want to be.
Can you please rectify this or send me the link to get this documentation.
    Thanks,
    Jason Metzker

    Hi
The response I received in regards to the links to the Oracle 9i Data Guard Documentation page is that the link is correct.
The Data Guard doc is part of the database documentation set which is why the Oracle 9i Data Guard Documentation links takes you to the list of books. The Data Guard Documentation is also listed in the list of books.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Migration of Unix Forms fmb/pll/mmb code to Windows 2000 platform

Hi, I am now runnning a forms 4.5 application on a COMPAQ TRUE 64-bit OS platform. However, as I have decided to switch to a Windows 2000 platform, may I know whether are the Unix fmb/pll/mmb source code that I have be re-usable in the Windows environment ? If it is not just copy and recompile, then what must I do to re-use the Unix code?
    Thank you very much.
    Regards.
    Isaac Tan

    Hi,
I did port our forms application from Sparc Solaris to NT/2000 2 years ago. Porting from unix to windows is easier than windows to unix (no dll's to worry).
You will need to compile the pll files first, then the mmb files and then your forms. You can create a batch file to do this (there are related postings on OTN and Metalink regarding such .bat files).
You might have problems with your icons and fixing it is easy. Also, if your application is for client/server, then on windows it will use the MDI screen - but this is not a problem at all - it will (especially menus) will be displayed on this MDI screen instead of the individual client/server form.

  • Oracle 8i EE Install problems on Windows 2000

Problem 1 - LENGTH OF INSTALL FILES PATH.
The Oracle Universal Installer was coming up fine, but the "Next" button wouldn't do anything. After much trial and error, I discovered this to be related to the path of the install files. Rather than burning to CD, I had copied the install files into a directory C:\ORA816 - when I renamed this directory to just C:\O, the "Next" magically began working. This problem only occurs on Windows 2000, not NT4.
Problem 2 - CREDENTIAL RETRIEVAL FAILED.
I got this error (ORA-12638) from the Database Configuration Assistant. This just happened, so I haven't had a chance to figure it out. Has anyone encountered/fixed this problem in Windows 2000? I am running the install as Administrator.
    null

Re: Problem 2. Just found out that this problem is resolved by removing the line SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES from
    %ORACLE_HOME%\network\admin\sqlnet.ora
    (see: http://technet.oracle.com//tech/migration/workbench/htdocs/relnotes.htm)

  • URGENT!Stuck while installing the Oracle apps 11.5.8 on Windows 2000 Server

    Hi All,
I am installing the Oracle applications 11.5.8 on windows server 2000 using the rapid install 11.5.8.11(which was part of the cd pack).
I am using the Windows CD Pack(which consists of 19 cds)
To start with, it has passed all the pre install checks(including the utlity check, system check etc), every thing was succesful and then I started the installation.
And then I started installing, I inserted 1 cd at a time. Every thing went smoothly until the 5 cd. While processing the 5th CD, it started spawning the dos session and was trying to connect to the created database. And it was not able to do so.
I could see from the status bar that it was trying to run the scripts like adlicnse.sql, adclobtmp.sql ,adclobconv.sql
    and throwing the following message
    ora-01089: immediate shutdown in progress
and was asking me to enter the user name . When I entered the username and password, it throws the message saying that
    "ora-01089: immediate shutdown in progress".
After such unsuccesful attempts for each of the above mentioned file, I finally go the "Oracle Applications Rapid Install Wizard Alert"
    displaying the below message.
Error code received when running external process.
    Check log file for details.
Running Database Install Driver for PROD instance.
and then with the "Retry" and "Abort" buttons. When I pressed the retry button, still get the same message. (And I did not find any log file to look for).
Please let us know what are we supposed to do now and what is the exact reason why it is not able to connect to the database.
I have not tampered with any of the files. This is a urgent requirement for us to install the oracle apps, please help us immediately and any help is widely appreciated.
    Thanks.

your problem is not very unusual... I also faced the similar situation cpl of times when Oracle was not able to continue the installation coz the Immediate Shutdown was failed. Actually During the installation, Oracle mounts/opens the database and shuts it down many times and few times, Oracle is unable to shutdown cleanly as some process is hanging or not responding.
Piece of advise is that always use staging area to install Apps as it takes long time on Win2K (anything between 4-12 hrs) to install it and CDROM Access is lot slower than HDD. Also, it will prompt u every time to insert tbe CD. All this hassle can be bypassed by using the staging area. Read the Installation help document on how to create it.
For failure reasons, look in ur installation log file which is created in the default Temp folder usually C:\documents and settings\USERNAME\local settings\temp for WinXP or C:\winnt\documents and settings\USERNAME\local settings\temp for Win2K.
post or email me at [email protected] or [email protected] for further help/details.
