10 g Database is starting automatically. but 9i database instance is not opeing automatically.
i tried STARTTYPE the opetion of oradim also but its not working.
tell me how to start the 9i database automatically.
regds
Ashishmost likely while installation you might have given a different port no.As a result oracle has ultimately landed up with having more than one listener. And some times I have seen after installation the previous listener does not get started. So I would like to you to check your listener.
One more point while 2nd installtion you might have changed your oracle home.so while trying to connect to prev instance try using sqlplus from previous oracle_home\bin\. -

Oracle database not starting up in oracle 10g RAC
Hi!
Recently I came across one problem with one node oracle 10g RAC.When the Oracle database is started, while opening it is giving ORA-03113:End of file on communication channel error. When I saw the the alert trace file and other trace files I found Disk group is exhausted error and it is not able to create .dbf files.Actually it is not a production server and I gave archive log destination in SAN.Even the spfile(content of init_database.ora) is in SAN..
I tried Asmcmd utility to delete the archive log files. As the oracle is not available I am not able to asmcmd prompt.
How to change the destination of archive log and to remove the old archive log files(as it is a testing environment we can remove) from SAN?Please let me know.
Thanks & Regards

Ah, but it's not a Windows issue. On a non-VM Windows box the database starts just fine all the time. Again, this is a known issue acknowledged by Oracle on the VMware side, I'm just surprised it exists on the Oracle VM side.Again, give more details about this "known issue". Never heard about that, eventhough I've been around for years.
I was afraid you were going to ask that. I'll have to search for it again, but I think you can do the same as well....Well, I doubt you could find a Metalink note about Oracle on VMWare. So far, Oracle has always refused to support database on OS virtualized on VMWare (or any VM software other than Oracle VM). Based on that, you could be sure, your "known issue" is not an issue on Oracle VM.
If you want more help, again, give more details about your issue.

Oracle Database Not Starting Up Properly
On VMware there's a known issue with Oracle databases on a Windows client not starting up properly all the time and a manual startup using oradim -start -sid <whatever> is required to get it fully running. I kinda figured that I wouldn't run into the exact same issue on Oracle VM. I created a brand new Oracle VM Windows 2003 32-bit server, installed the Oracle drivers for paravirtualization, and whammo, the problem is still here. I didn't find anything in this forum about the database not starting up, so I'm wondering if others are running into the same problem and how to resolve the issue. Thanks a bunch for your help.

How to start manually an oracle 8i database with a bat file?
Hi all,
I know it's not the place but it is a really common question: how can i start manually an oracle 8i database on windows 2000 without using a service? I don't remember the command. I tried: oracle start SID without success...
Thanks
JMiDear JMD,
If you would like to startup the Oracle instance using a batch file then first create a SQL file (say ABC.SQL) wherein enter the following two lines:
connect internal/<INTERNAL_PASSWORD>
STARTUP
<INTERNAL_PASSWORD> above is the password for the INTERNAL user account (default password is "oracle")
Then create a batch file (say START.BAT) and enter the following single line:
<ORACLE_HOME>\bin\svrmgrl @<ABC_DIR>\ABC.SQL
where <ORACLE_HOME>\bin\svrmgrl is the full path of the SVRMGRL.EXE executable and <ABC_DIR> is the directory in which you have placed the ABC.SQL file.
Now you can startup the Oracle database by simply double-clicking on the START.BAT batch file.
Ciao!

Is My Oracle 8 Database Started?
hi experts. Wish I were one.
We have this old, retired Oracle 8i database on a Windows server. The db name is PROD
I need to connect to it but I'm having difficulties.
Im looking at the services -
OracleServicePROD IS started
OracleStartPROD will not start (possibly because the database is already started?)
OracleNamesService will not start
The TNS Listerner IS started
Can anyone give me advice for verifying this database is started, please?

Error starting up Oracle 10g database.
Hi,
(I had shutdown my database by "shutdown abort")
Now i'm getting the following error while trying to startup Oracle 10g database version :- 10.2.0.1.0.
SQL> startup nomount
ORA-07345: The datafile name must not contain the string '..'.
I get the same error even for startup/ startup mount
currently i'm using only pfile for startup as there is no spfile in dbs directory.Hi Kuljeet,
This is a very strange error, i know, controlfile contains are not read in "no mount" state of database... still i'm getting the error.
The contents of my pfile are as follows :-

Which Oracle Certification Should I Start With
Hi,
I'm looking for some advice on which Oracle certification I should start with. Let me first tell you about me and my business goals. I an new to the SQL world but have a firm grasp of the RDBMS. I have also worked as a Business Analyst for a company that is doing an Oracle upgrade including the EBS. I have had to do some very basic queries. My business goal is to improve my Oracle database skills.
I would like to add Business (Data) Analyst to my job description some day. I would like to be both a Business Analyst and a Business Data Analyst. I have been asked to work as a jr. DBA in the past, and would like to continue to pursue those options. Currently, my work seems to evolve around Oracle as opposed to the other businesses out there.
Given this information, which certification would you recommend I start with. Please let me know if you require additional information. This is my long term business goal so I will take as much time as needed to get it done. I was thinking I should start with *1Z0-051 SQL Fundamentals I* (11g). Any thoughts?
Thank you in advance!

If you get to Business Analyst than you can go wiht ebs certification

But dont forget those subjects are different from eachother and need different skills to become senior on those subjects
Hope it helps

Hi,
when i executed the following query:
SELECT COMP_NAME, STATUS
FROM DBA_SERVER_REGISTRY;
i got all the objects status as VALID except that
"ORACLE XML Database" was INVALID
Can someone help me to make this "ORACLE XML Database" as VALID.
Thanks,
Philip.HI Frank,
now what i did was i actually ran catpatch.sql and utlrp.sql after i did startup migrate.
and when i did
SELECT COMP_NAME, STATUS
FROM DBA_SERVER_REGISTRY;
i got all objects as valid, but i dont see "Oracle XML Database" anymore.
so now i suppose i cannot reinstall, but actually do a fresh install. and the following are the steps for a fresh install in the documentation
Installing a New Oracle XML DB Manually Without Database Configuration Assistant
After the database installation, you must run the following SQL scripts in rdbms/admin connecting to SYS to install Oracle XML DB after creating a new tablespace for Oracle XML DB repository. Here is the syntax for this:
catqm.sql <XDB_password> <XDB_TS_NAME> <TEMP_TS_NAME>
#Create the tables and views needed to run XML DB
For example:
catqm.sql change_on_install XDB TEMP
Reconnect to SYS again and run the following:
catxdbj.sql #Load xdb java library
Note:
Make sure that the database is started with Oracle9i release 2 (9.2.0) compatibility or higher, and Java Virtual Machine (JVM) is installed.
Postinstallation
After the manual installation, carry out these tasks:
1. Add the following dispatcher entry to the init.ora file:
dispatchers="(PROTOCOL=TCP) (SERVICE=<sid>XDB)"
2. Restart the database and listener to enable Oracle XML DB protocol access.
3. To allow for unauthenticated access to your Oracle XML DB repository data through HTTP, you must also unlock the ANONYMOUS user account.
is this right. can u tell me what i should do please.
Thanks,
Philip. -

Edited by: user10676396 on May 6, 2009 7:43 PMHello Kalyan,
A couple questions:
1. Once you installed the 11G database, you did start the database services, yes?
2. Do you have a properly configured TNSNAMES.ORA file that points to your database?
3. You created a database that you are using and can access the database via SQLPlus?
Don.
