Are you sure that you are trying to install the correct version? It seems like it's for Microsoft Windows Itanium (64-bit) edition.

  • Oracle Linux 6.2 64bit install problem

    Hi all,
    I had a installation problem of 64bit Oracle Linux 6.2 with HP proliant dl380 g7 (build-in P410i array controller),
when i try to install the OS, it will keep in black screen after loading the vmlinuz.
I had try the 5.8 32bit version it can pass the vmlinuz.
So, I guess it may be related to driver.
Does any one can help me fix this problem.
    thanks,
    Kenny

I suggest to try the following:
When the bootloader screen prompts you to press any key to enter the menu... press any key.
Move the cursor to your default Linux kernel, normally Oracle Linux UEK and press the letter 'e'.
Move the cursor down 1 line to the kernel parameter and press the letter 'e' again.
    Add the word "nomodset".
If you want to see more details, remove "rhgb quiet"
Press the Enter key when done
Press the letter 'b' to boot the system
If all works, edit /etc/grub.conf and modify the kernel parameter line for a permanent change.

I have installed Oracle 10g eXpress Edition and uninstalled Oracle 9i client database. I used Oracle 9i client to connect to another Database server on a local LAN. Is it possible to create a database link to the old Oracle 9i database server via Oracle 10g XE? If yes, do I need to add ODBC drivers?
I want to achieve the following:
    1) Create a connection to the Oracle 9i database server using Ora101040 odbc drivers.
    2) Use a similar 9i tool (Enterprise Management Console) within Oracle 10g XE to access Oracle 9i Database tables on a LAN network.
    3) Create data access to Oracle 10g XE via some ODBC connection from a C++ runtime application.
Hope to receive help from Oracle professionals.

Database links between Oracle databases do not require ODBC. They do require Oracle Networking (included with both Oracle9i Database and Oracle Database 10g XE) to be configured correctly.
It is also possible to connect ot the 9i database using the 10g Instant Client (separate download)
I want to achieve the following:

    2) Use a similar 9i tool (Enterprise Management

Database tables on a LAN network.XE does not have an equivalent to Oracle Enterprise Manager. XE does come with HTMLdb preinstalled and configured, and HTMLdb provides a subset of the administration capabilities of Enterprise Manager.
    3) Create data access to Oracle 10g XE via some ODBC
connection from a C++ runtime application. You can download ODBC drivers from the same location on OTN you downloaded XE. I do not know whether XE includes ODBC drivers. ODBC drivers will usually still require you to configure the Oracle Networking.
There are a number of items that make me believe you do not have a good grasp of Oracle architecture and basics. If true, I encoureage you to start reading the Concepts manual found for the database at http://docs.oracle.com, or at least the O'Reilly book 'Oracle Essentials' found at http://oracle.oreilly.com

Step 1 - from a command line on the database machine, enter 'lsnrctl status' and report the output
Step 2 - display the contents of the %ORACLE_HOME%\network\admin\tnsnames.ora file on the machine running sqlplus.
These are the first two stepo, whether on the database machine or in a traditional client-server configuration.

  • Oracle 10g Database Server or Oracle 10g Application Server

    Greetings and Salutations!
I need to install APEX 3.01 for development purposes and I'm wondering if I need to do an Oracle 10g Database Server installation, an Oracle 10g Application Server installation, and then the APEX 3.01 installation, or is there another way such as an Oracle 10g Application Server installation and then the APEX 3.01 installation.
I'm confused and I need advice.
    Thanks,
    Charles

Apex software runs inside the database using the database's PL/SQL engine.
Apex software is accessed via HTTP requests that may be sent to an HTTP server as included on the database 'companion CD' or in the Application Server.
Apex installation is described in the APEX install manual at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/index.html

  • Oracle 9i database server and Space

    Hi,
I am new to Oracle. I installed 9i database server ( personal edition) on my machine at home just to play around and get a feel of Oracle. Unfortunately within a month my Harddrive was maxed out to full capacity of 72 Gigs. I had only used 12 Gigs when I first installed Oracle a month ago. • Lenovo D20, Type 4155-21G With 5x1.5tb Raid 5, Windows 7 64bit install problem.

    H
Id like to just document a current machine and works and see if any thing is glaringly wrong..
Above spec machine has an onboard marrvel 66xx raid card, a raid 5 volume has been created, total useable space is around 5.5TB.
The software in play here is the following..
Orignal Lenovo recovery disk set, this is Rescue and recovery boot disk 1, then the OS which is Vista 32 Business, the disk label is actual 64bit but its not 64bit its 32bit.
The machine finally has to leave with Windows 7 64bit ultimate.
I have looked into the upgrade paths and so on and basicly you need vista 64bit ultimate in theory, certain hacks are possible such as renaming the os level or name via the registery, but this is dirverting from my post.
Here is what has been done and what has happend.
    20th Jan.
    Start of day.
    Raid 5 volume created.
Factory recovery completed windows vista business 32bit.
Attempt to upgrade Windows vista business to Windows 7 ultimate from with in windows, windows 7 alerts this is not a compatable system etc.
At this stage since the 64bit upgrade is not possible from the known good lenovo state (lenovo vista business factory desktop etc) the second disks in the "Windows 7 32bit + 64bit any time upgrade package was ran.
The 32bit version of the Windows 7 ultimate was ran, this did complete sucessfully.
The 64bit version of the windows 7 was attempted once more from with in the newly installed Windows 7 32 bit but again this upgrade route is not supported.
At this stage a custom install was completed (which means a fresh install which wipes the drive) / fresh install, of the windows 7 64bit any time upgrade disk.
For some reason the Windows 7 64bit any time upgrade key failed to be accepted.
At this stage a second engineer repeated all steps completed to verify and on the second go around the FRESH install of Windows 64bit any time upgrade (stand alone install / custom etc) the key worked!..
This is were it gets interesting.
Lets recap, we have a D20 with 5x1.5tb sata hard drives in raid 5, all on the onboard marvel raid card.
Windows 7 64bit has been sucessfully installed, and of course the next step is to install the lenovo system update tool. (version for windows 7, I understand this is fully 64bit compatable..)
This was completed and pc doctor and one other misc application install, the system requested to restart and then ....
The raid BIOS of the marvel card reported that the raid had become degraded..!!
An inspection of the onboard raid information results that the disk 0 of the 5 disks, was no longer assigned to the RAID 5, with teh remaining several disks still "assigned".
At this stage the only option is to delete the raid five array and recreate it.
This has been done and the factory recovery process has once again been restarted and an attempt will be made to perform the custom install with hopefully the windows 7 64bit any time upgrade install detecting the previous version although I would say that it would not need to detect anything since this is now longer an upgrade but a custom fresh install.
    Further information.
There is a System bios update from the 5th of Jan 2010, this has been burnt to cd and will be applyed against the machine shortly.
We have had some conversation about just how it is that a disk can fatally pop out from the raid five volume like this, was it a coincidence that it coninsided with the power cycle process dirrectly after the system update installation?
Tommorow a Windows 64bit OEM package will be applied against this machine and since we have the relivant driver file for the onboard raid card (sourced from the drivers and applications lenovo recovery disk set), there should be less of a problem in key acceptance.
Kind of a werid situation, what looks like a possible hardware problem and a stupid microsoft upgrade qulification problem.
Is there any thing stupid I have over looked?
Thanks, sorry for the long post but this is the story in full.
Note from Moderator:  Fixed formatting issue.

    21st Jan..
The D20 has sucessfully had vista business factory reinstalled and then Windows 7 64bit installed.
Dirrectly after the Windows 7 installation and power cycle, one of the five 1.5tb hard drives have dropped out of the raid, visable as "DEGRADED", uppon further inspection via control m, the middle drive (not drive 0 as before) drive 2 (0,1,2,3,4,5) has dropped out and is not marked as assigned, it is marked with no label or free.
This is high strangeness, it is my understanding that the RAID technologies are transparent to the OS so it should not be in any way the Windows 7 install triggering this, the last occurance was also during a Windows 7 power cycle but dirrectly after the system update tool being installed.
At this stage it would appear that Windows 7 64-bit used in conjunction with the supplment driver disk marked as (drivers and apps, windows xp vista, windows 7) is not able to complete and remain stable.
I suspect a possible driver issue but if this was the case surely the windows 7 install would not progress past the first installation point where the driver disks is required to actually use and see the array via the controler.
I will update this thread with more information as it becomes available.
Machine delivery eta to customer is tommorow so this is not good.

  • Oracle 9i database server license for non-profit organization

If I am posting this thread in the wrong forum, please let me know where I should post it.
I just want to ask if Oracle has discount license for non-profit organization. I want to use Oracle 9i DB Server.
If there is information like that, please let me know. I'd really appreicated it.

The express edition will only use 1 cpu EVEN on multi-cpu servers.
Just food for thought ... Not saying this is your case, but I have seen a lot of NPOs that have bought 2CPU boxes and loaded the application and the database on the same box. That means the app is sharing the machine, and only a part of the machine is going to the database. A cheaper solution in that case is to use two 1-CPU machines and get 1 CPU license for Oracle. And the reduced feature set of XE might be enough.

  • Oracle 9i database server for AIX 32 bit

    Hello,

Will there be possible to download for 32bit AIX?
I feel little depressed because such stable OS I am forced to
switch to Windows if I want to prepare myself little advance on
    future Oracle architecture.
Will it be possible to get also 32bit AIX Oracle 9i?

At this time, Oracle is offering only the 64- bit and we do not
have additional information if in the future 32-bit will be
    offered.

  • Oracle 8i Database Server & Soap

Does Oracle 8i DB support Soap ?
If so can some one send me some examples
    TIA - RPG

Yes you can, but if I recall correctly, the Oracle 8i database supports session beans only, not entity beans.
Have you looked at Oracle's J2EE container for 9i? This is a separately downloadable component that provides full support for JSP/Servlet, EJB (BMP and CMP) and JMS. I don't know what the licensing restrictions are on using it (I don't how many thousands of dollars you must have already spent with Oracle) but it's definitely a lot easier and more convenient than deployment to the database, as well as being more functional.

  • Pls hlp: Oracle 8.16/Forms 6i Install Problems

I am currently running Oracle 8.16 on WIN2K w/o any problems. I want to install Forms and Reports 6i on same machine. Pls tell me how to correctly install Forms and Reports 6i and allow me to use current database in Oracle 8.16.. Thanks

First of all, I wouldn't recommend it. We have many years of experience with Oracle versions 7 through 8i Release 2 and the various incantations of Developer from 2.1 through 6i and the simple fact is that if you try to run them on the same NT system, you will have nothing but headaches. In fact, I would not even run Forms Server and Reports Server on the same machine and definitely NOT either on an 8.1.6 server.
That having been said, begin by reading the 8i Administrator's Guide for Release 2 (8.1.6) for Windows NT. Chapter 3 explains the Optimal Flexible Architecture (OFA, which is a solution to the problem you describe but which cannot easily be retrofit onto even the most current versions of Developer, which use older versions of Net8. This chapter should discourage you even more, but if it doesn't....
Remember that you will need to create your 8.1.6 ORACLE_HOME, FIRST! Install your server there.
Next, install your Forms and Reports Servers:
    1. You MUST create a separate ORACLE_HOME for each of these.
    2. Don't install these on the same machine as each other or 8.1.6 if you are going to use OEM to start them. In other words, install them as NT services.
    3. Ideally (and I mean STRONGLY recommended). Create two adminstrator-level accounts, one for each of Reports Server and Forms Server and do the install as someone in this account. Make sure that you have a default printer set up for the Oracle Reports Server account.
    4. Make sure that your DEFAULT ORACLE_HOME is the home of the Forms Server for the Forms Server operation (and the DEFAULT ORACLE_HOME for the REPORTS_SERVER is the Reports Server ORACLE_HOME). This is why you do not want to install these as Administrator. If you do, you'll run into loads of problems with networking.
    5. You will need to make note of your NT Registry AFTER the 8.1.6 install but BEFORE the Forms/Reports server install and AFTER the Forms/Reports server install. The registry entries for Oracle products changed with OFA so you will end up with a hybrid of the pre-OFA (Forms/Reports registry) and the OFA registry. Since software using the former will not look for keys created by the latter, make sure that you enter your configuration details (such as REPORTS60_REPORTS_SERVER) in the right branch or things won't work and you won't know why.
Again, I would strongly recommend that you don't do this, but rather, you get a couple of dedicated machines to run the Forms and Reports Server.
Also, if you are going to make either of these accessible via the Web, you will need to consider your WebDb (or alternative) setup as well.
FYI, after trying NUMEROUS configurations with these, we now run 8.1.6, Forms Server and Reports Server on three different machines and run the Web CGI's for Forms and Reports on a fourth machine. That is what I would recommend that you do.
