Oracle 9i DB (90204) + Windows 2003 Ent R2 Server +D2k client

Greetings,
Hi gentlemen, i setup a new HP Proliant Server with the above configuration and a 4GB Ram.
I made use of /3GB /PAE in my boot.ini so as to let oracle use more than 2GB of RAM. My SGA is allocated with 2.5GB ram.
However, during production, i faced problem in which users has problem accessing the Oracle DB. This problem comes by only after certain times and it is normalised after i have restarted the Server. I could not pin point the problem as it is too intermittent.
I am really at lost now. Previously, I have no problem in running Oracle 9i DB (90204) with Win2000 Server.
I am trying to narrow down the problem but is quite lost as in where to start to do so. Can it be the problem with memory allocation? Or D2k Client? or i need to update with the latest Oralce patches?
Appreciate your kind help. Thanks

Since thix box has only 4 GB RAM, are you sure you need to enable this flag? This "extension" has the ability to map more RAM, but this also means that more memory might be needed by the kernel to handle translation (virtual to real addresses) - maybe not in your case, but did you compare the impact/behaviour of using the different settings? There are other dependencies as well, e.g. the page file size. Anyway - you need to find out which route is best for your needs.
Have you looked at performance figures in Task Manager? What's your (average) Available number under Physical memory? Commit Charge Total, Peak and Limit while system starts to deteriorate?

Did you find any error messages in alert.log or listener.log, possibly related?
You have gotten a good advice from Satish, that you need to make sure your configuration is not consuming too much...

  • NetWeaver and WTS on Windows 2003 Ent. 64bit Machine

    Hi,
Does NetWeaver 7.0 able to install on an Intel Server (Windows 2003 Ent. 64bit) with WTS (Windows Terminal Server)?  I try to check SAP note, SDN and Google but don't found any information about it.  Thank you.
    Cheer,

I´m still not sure what you ask...
A SAP system is usually installed alone on the server, no MS Office, no SAPGUI - just the plain system. You can administer the system using WTS (which is a supported way) but you should not run other applications on the same server.
There were problems in the past with some applications that could not be configured using WTS (e. g. DCOM connectors and other CRM related things) but you always have the possibility of using the console or other 3rd party tools to access the system and configure it remotely (e. g. VNC for free).

  • Physical to Virtual Migration Approach for Exchange CCR 2007 on Windows 2003 Ent Edition

    Hi Team,
I am running Two exchange 2007 CCR in my environment on Physical node on windows 2003 ENT edition. MY Hardware is end of life and we are planning to migrate/Converting them into virtual environmnet running Vsphere 5.1.
can any one let me know the best approach to virtualize exchange CCR .
    Exchange CCR details are :-
    Windows 2003 Ent edition.
    Excahnge 2007.
Quorum is configuraed on shared folder.
Exchange Primary replicating Data on Exchange Secondry ..Both Primary and Secondry are having Raid 10 Local Disks.

    Hi Ravi,
you can take a couple of approaches here. First off, I want to make sure you are not wanting to do a P2V conversion, that is taking the OS image that is running on the physical host and, using VMware Converter, create a virtual machine from it. You could do it that way but, depending on how much mail data is there it could take a long time and it's not the preferred approach for Exchange.
I'm going to make a couple of assumptions here:
I'm assuming upgrading to Exchange 2010 is out of the question (if it is not just do that and move mailboxes )
I'm assuming that there is plenty of storage in the vSphere environment to satisfy the requirements of Exchange. Obviously you would have to provide enough storage for all mail data x 2 if you want to continue with CCR.
Your message says "local disks", so I'm guessing the RAID 10 you mention is not available for use for these virtual machines and that you will provide some type of shared storage.
So, if you have enough compute within a vSphere cluster and enough storage (capacity and IO) to satisfy CCR I see two options:
    Leapfrog approach
    1. Shutdown passive
    2. Evict passive from CCR cluster
    3. Create new VM, Clustering services, Exchange/add as passive to the cluster (you could run setup in recovery mode /m:recoverserver, but I don't see why you would want to in a cluster)
    4. Seed databases
    5. Failover
    6. Repeat for other physical
    New Cluster
    1. Create two new VMs
    2. Create new CCR Cluster
    3. Install Exchange active/passive
    4. Move mailboxes
    5. Decomm physicals
Obviously these are very high level but the approaches are straight forward. If this is your only set of Exchange servers in the environment you will have to account for any public folders/system folders, etc. Take some time and check out compute usage in the current environment so you are sure you have plenty of compute in the vSphere environment, especially if you are moving into a shared environment.

  • Upgrading Windows 2003 Ent and Exchange 2000 to SBS?

Hi.  I'm wondering the best course of action from a planning standing.
I have a single domain Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise Server.  This has VMware 2.0 Server, SQL Server and TFS.  The VMware is hosting Exchange 2003 and a second Domain Controller.  (yes, not an optimal solution.  Fortunately my Dell PowerEdge
with 8 Xeon cores and 16 G's memory has been holding up well).
I'm thinking that the least risky upgrade is to go to SBS 2008 server with Hypervisor.  I've read that this is a supported upgrade path.   Then drop VMware server.
What would people more experienced than me recommend?

    Hi,
    Any update?
Just checking in to see if the suggestions were helpful. Please let us know if you would like further assistance.

I have an issue in a Windows 2003 64 Bits Server in CMC when i'm in the authentication section i choose SAP the Role Import works fine and I can see the Users Group from SAP BW but the users don't appear.
I try the same thing in a Windows 2003 32 Bits with the same parameters and works fine i can see de User Groups and The Users from the same BW Server.
I Think i could be a problem with the 64 bits server the issue is the users from SAP BW are not imported.
    Regards Marvin Soto.

    Hi Ingo,
we have some thing similar issue. can you please help us out.
We Imported users and in options we selected concurrent and every thing worked fine up to 1 month and then automatically our license key say you have only 2 named users. we have a license key for 100 named users now. do we need to delete all the concurrent users from sap now and we need to re-import them by selecting named in options tab of sap. what is the work around for this. i tested by changing the one of the sap user profile to named instead of concurrent, then i am able to login to infoview using sap credentials but when i open a report its says you don't have enough license to perform this operation. can i know why is this happening.

  • Oracle 10g install on Windows 2003 Server 32-bit

As far as I can tell there doesn't appear to be an Oracle10g download for 10.2.0.4 for Windows 2003 Server. It looks like you have to download 10.2.0.1 for Windows then apply the patch to bring it up to 10.2.0.4. Am I seeing this correctly or am I missing something?
    Thanks!

Indeed you are; your eyes are definitely not lying to you. 10.2.0.4 is a patchset which can only be applied to an already existing Oracle Home.
You might want to try and understand a little bit more about what the 10.2.0.4 means by accessing the links below.

If, on the next page http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oracle9i/htdocs/win64soft.html
you click on product certification information, you can see "Certify - Oracle's Certification Matrices".
If you choose "View Certifications by Platform", etc, and you arrive here http://www.oracle.com/technology/support/metalink/index.html
If you choose "View Certifications by Product", etc, and you arrive here http://www.oracle.com/technology/support/metalink/index.html, and you can read "32-bit/64-bit Information, read this http://www.oracle.com/technology/support/metalink/index.html.

  • Oracle 9i Installation on Windows 2003 Server 64bit - URGENT

    Hi ,
I am installing oracle 9i on win 2003 server (64 bit) enterprise edition. After the installation whenever I try to run Database Configuration Assistant or Net configuration assistant nothing happens.
If i run DBCA on command line then it runs but not from the Start menu. Can anyone suggest the solution ? I tested it with oracle 9i (32 bit) and (64bit) versoins for win2003 server platform. But same results. Also tried the oracle 32 bit for XP on windows 2003 server but in vain.
It seems like there is PATH problem but i checked all the paths and they seem preety okay. I wonder why it runs from the command line when I recall dbca.bat file and not from the Oracle menu.
I would appreciate any remedy to this problem

I hate to be a wet blanket, but this forum is for feedback about the OTN site. The best place for your current thread is in the Database Installation:

  • Problem in installing Oracle 9i R2 on Windows 2003 Server Enterprise

We are having problem installing the Oracle 9i R2 Server on Windows 2003 Server Enterprise Edition. During installation, it generates error saying "The IP Address of the machine not found". When clicking the "Continue" button, it tries to install other things but few minutes later it asks to stop complete installation or installation of that feature.
But when we installed it on Windows XP it works fine and we have no problem in configuring it. What's the problem with Windows 2003 Server?
If we drop the idea of installing it on Windows 2003 Server, can we make Windows XP maching as a Server?

ORACLE asumes that the first network device you have on your server has a fixed IP address.
    Is this the case?
If not so you should install a loopback adapter as network device with a fixed IP.
    Does this help?

  • Oracle 10g problems on Windows 2003 32bit

After much struggle I got 10g installed on my w2k3 server.
    It is very unreliable, however.
    1. The OracleDBConsoles<server name> will fail from time to time.
    2. my floppy disk drive is being accessed from time to time for no reason after the install (no, no virus - it stops when I stop all oracle services)
Is 10g really windows 2003 ready?
I mean, from the painful install, to it not behaving properly...
I used to have 9i r2 working flowlessly on the same machine. I may just go back to it.
I did a proper uninstall with a registry cleanup before trying to install 10g.
Anyone using 10g on w2k3 willing to share some insights?
    Thanks!

    Fixed in 10.1.0.4
I know for sure that this will not be released until Feb 2005 as I cannot get a backport for a different bug and have been informed from Oracle Support.
