Oracle 9i DB restore on Test server

Hi all,
Production DB 9i
Solaris 9
Veritas 6.5
We backup our Oracle production database using Veritas Netbackup 6.5 with RMAN integration to tape.
Is it possible to perform a restore of a production db to a test server (new host) without having any affect upon the production db or the RMAN catalog.
Can the RMAN backup set for a particular db be restored at file level? If so then I could copy the RMAN files to test server and perform an RMAN recover using nocatalog.
Test Server Oracle10g on Solaris 10.
I bit confuse how to restore spfile & contrl file from auto backup.
I trying .......!!!!!!!!!!!
I copied pfile, spfile, control file move to new host on different directory & I already change the path of directories in pfile.
Test Server
RMAN> target / nocatalog
RMAN> startup nomount pfile='/export/home/oracle/initpfile.ora'; ---DB started nomount mode.
Q. How I restore spfile & control file from autobackup? I have to connect Target DB with or wihtout Recovery Cat DB....and restore spfile & controlfile does it any affect on production db?
Has anyone performed anything similar and have a list of steps they could share with me.
Thanks

Hi Santosh,
The problem is that the rman backup on tape of Production DB cannot be accessed by Test Server.
How I gona recover control file & DB file.....etc.
I want to know how I move production DB backup which is on tap move to disk.......
or
I let me know what is way to access backup........?

Now my question is daily incremental backup of production server will be restored in testing server (same configuration in production server
and testing server ) how can i achieve this .....

    Hi Oradba,
Thanks for your response. I went through the link and we need this only for testing purpose and not for reporting.
We need to take incremental backup and restore it in testing server. Is it possible to do this without RMAN.(Due to some Business reasons)
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Backup of PRD Server to Restore in TEST Server of db2

    Dear Sir
I have tried to Restore PRD Backup to Restore in TEST Server using Clip method Redirect Method
Data base was restored, but not up
Can any Sap Guru help me to restore PRD Backup to Restore in DEV server,
    Regards /Ashwani

    Hi Ash kumar,
You  restoring with offline backup or online backup.if your restoring with online backup.Check up to date logs are avaliable in test server.
If we want to restore the backup
->db2 restore db Sid from path (where the backup file is located)
after displaying successfully status type command
->db2 rollforward db SID to end of logs and stop
    ->db2 rollforward db SID complete
To check the status of rollforward
->db2 rollforward db SID query status

  • Impact of Rman restore on test server.

    Hi,
I am working on oracle 10g on linux 64 bit
I have rman backup from production database. Name and SID of production database is Prod1 and i want to to check this RMAN backup after restoring it on the other test server (VMDB) for Disaster recovery.
Now problem is that, i want to test it for DR, where i only need to run a script to restore and recover a database at the time of disaster in production site.
My disaster recovery site will be in different network, so i can keep the name of database and sid same as of Production but is it possible that i could install the database in test database with same db name and same sid as of Production when Test and Production database are in same network.
What will be the steps if i want to have a single script to restore database to new server. Do i need to create database with installation of Oracle on test machine or RMAN script will create database by itself.
Do i need to set same dbid as of production in test database before restore. What can be the problems when i have production database running and i am restoring backup of same database on test machine with different IP address but same database name and SID and setting same DBID. I am not using catalog
I have a full backup of database +Auto backup of controlfile and spfile
Production database is being accessed by client via TOMCAT server.

    >Yes it is possible.
    >Do i need to create database with installation of Oracle on test machine or RMAN script will create database by itself.
    >
There is no need to run CREATE DATABASE. Running the right RMAN RESTORE statements will recreate database control files, datafiles and redo log files.

Note that in case of disaster recovery, you must make sure that RMAN backups are available from test server.
You can try to apply following example to your environment:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14191/rcmrecov.htm#BRADV156

What can be the problems when i have production database running and i am restoring backup of same database on test machine with different IP address but same database name and SID and setting same DBID. I am not using catalog If you are not using RMAN catalog, risks are limited: you should take care at least:
    1. that Oracle Net configuration files (tnsnames.ora) used in production are not updated
    2. that any tool/script you are using to manage (monitor, backup, etc.) the test database does not interfere with the production database.

  • Installa Oracle Database 10g in a Tests Server

    Good Morning
I need help about as to Install Oracle10g Database, in a test server.I need Create a Database and later to Restore the last day Backup, in this Database. Please somebody help me
    Regards
    Kevin Koch

    Step 1: Go to http://docs.oracle.com
Step 2: Download the installation document for your version.
10g is not a version it is a marketing label. 10.1.0.3 is not 10.2.0.4.
and you didn't think your operating system important enough to mention.
Step 3: Follow the installation steps in the document without deviation.
If you run into a problem ask a specific question and provide sufficient information so someone can help you rather than just giving you a generic answer (such as this).

all 3 instances reside on single server we use netapp snapshot backup what it will do is it will take all db's snapshot in same time (hotbackup). The snapshots are NOT instantaneous!
If they were actually frozen in time, the DB would be consistent & open.
The snapshot must be handled as any other online (hot) backup.
    ALTER SYSTEM SWITCH LOGFILE;
    alter database begin backup
    -- take hot backup
    alter database end backup
    ALTER SYSTEM SWITCH LOGFILE;
Restore backed up files, then apply all redos inclusive to steps above

  • How to Registered Test Server Reports into Production Server

Can I registered these reports into production Server with the help of FNDLOD or any other procedure?
Q)Without repeating registration steps in Production server.
    Thank you,
    Best Regards,

Use OPENDATASET to opend the file in AS.
Use READ DATASET INTO ITAB to read the data to ITAB presented in AS .
Then use the Function module GUI_DOWNLOAD or WS_DOWNLOAD to down load the data from ITAB to PS.
And you can't do this in background.

  • How to test restore in another server?

    Hi,
I want to test full backup (hot backup using RMAN) of my DB (11.2 SE) on another server (I didn't install DB on yet).
    Saad,

to test the backup -which is done by third party softwareHow you restore really depends on how you backup the database !
Without knowing how the backup is done it would be incorrect to advice a single method to test restoration.
Nevertheless, you need to start with an installation of Oracle software (RDBMS, Binaries) on the new test server. You would have to install the same Oracle RDBMS Release and Version as the one that is running in your production server (where the backup was taken). If the third party software incorporates media management libraries, you'd need to install and configure them as well. Thereafter, the restore command depends on how the backup is done.

  • Oracle 10.2.0.3 Databases  - Restore to New Server

We will soon be replacing an old server with a new server and I need to restore all Oracle 10.2.0.3 databases to the new server
and ensure Oracle functionality/connectivity with all databases.
I am in the process of testing and need advice and hopefully a 'Step by Step' process I can follow.
I am a systems admin - not an Oracle db admin - so please explain details of any commands I may have to run.
    I have already tested once:
ran command prompt: sqplus / as sysdba
    SQL>shutdown immediate;
    Stopped all Oracle services:
    Oracle Database
    Oracle Listener
    Oracle DBConsole
Installed Oracle 10.2.0.3 on new server
Ensured that the SID and all other Oracle services information matched the old server during installation on the new server.
Stopped all Oracle services on the new server (used the steps above).
Backed-up and test restored to new server.
Enterprise Manager shows: Listener Up Database Instance Down Agent Down
    Any help would be appreciated

It would be good to know your operation system. I hope both new and old match or similar.
You can use RMAN to dumplicate you DB so you can follow [Creating a Duplicate Database on a New Host. Doc ID: 388431.1|https://support.oracle.com/CSP/main/article?cmd=show&type=NOT&id=388431.1]
but a simple file system copy based manual duplication is also possible if new and old OS system is similar...

I've been recommending to upgrade to R12 but the Finance Users are reluctant for an upgrade and of the opinion that the R12 has many bugs and there will be issues after upgrade to R12.
R12.1.x is a stable release that many customers (including Oracle themselves) have upgraded to.
Once of the consultant is of the opinion that its better to re-implement R12 instead of Upgrade. He also tells me that R12 does not have sub-accounting and sub-ledger and trial balance reports in AP.Since I am not a Functional Consultant I could not comment on this.
The Finance modules have been completely re-written and fucntionality had changed for the better. Re-implementation typically costs upto 3 times more than a upgrade. Re-implementation is not necessary if the business model and process have not changed. What are the consultants justifications for doing a re-implementation (other than making more money) ?
Please advice if there are any useful docs which address the upgrade to R12 issues which I can share with our consultant and users.

  • Restoring 'preview in browser' from test server

I have recently added and am learning to build a 'form' page (dynamic PHP page) to my site.
I have installed Apache and am using a localhost 'test server' on C/program files/xampp/htdocs
( I have been following tutotrials in The Missing Manuals series)
Everthing is going ok, but my question involves the following problem:
I used the 'preview in browser' function as always in my development. After setting up the PHP page and attempting to preview it, it established a new connection to the local server and it asked to 'put' the files to that test server which I did. Everything worked ok, but when I went back to work on regular HTML pages, and preview, it tries to use the test server.
The test server is in a different location (above), and obviously doesn't find the location of my site development. The rest of my site doesn't reside on the test server location (above), so when I try to preview it, I just get error messages.
I have several computers - when I go back to one that I didn't preview the PHP page in (even though I have copied the entire site with new PHP page), it previews like I want, in a regular browser.
    Question:
Is there a way to tell the 'preview' function where to look, so it doesn't activate the test server and just loads the original HTML files like it used to?
Or do I just need to define/relocate both the test server and my site to the same location?
    Thank you!!

    Question:
Is there a way to tell the 'preview' function where to look, so it doesn't activate the test server and just loads the original HTML files like it used to?
If your site has a Testing Server defined, then all previews will be directed to the Testing Server, including those that may not require a Testing Server.
Or do I just need to define/relocate both the test server and my site to the same location?
That's usually the best way - altough it's not required.  You just have to make sure that any files you need to make your preview work are also uploaded to the Testing Server.

You could also explore the UNTIL clause of the RECOVER DATABASE command to specify Recovery until a specific Log, SCN or Timestamp.
Since you are cloning a Hot Backup to another server the Recovery has to be an Incomplete Recovery. So, it will be to a Log, SCN or Timestamp -- either of which you could also explicitly specify with the UNTIL clause.

  • SAP file system restoration on other server

    Dear Experts,

    2. Is it possible to directly backup the filesystems (like /dev/oracleGSPlv)?  This requirement is because, when I backup (using tar) /oracle, all the folders in /oracle, like /oracle/GSP, /oracle/GSP/sapdata1 etc, are also backed up.  I do not want it.  I would like to backup the filesystems directly.
    3. Which unix backup tools are used to backup the individual filesystems?
    4. How do we restore the filesystems to the test server?
    Thanks for your advise.

  • Planning Migration from Development Server to Testing Server

    Hi All,
I am doing migration from development env to testing env. I am stuck in the middle of the migration. Anyone please guide me in this situation. Its very urgent for me. I am following below steps for the planning migration
    1. Create a new database on Production RDBMS Server for your planning application.
I created the new database for my planning application.
    2. Configure a data source on Production Planning Server.
I configured the new datasource on planning.
    3. Create fresh planning application on Production Server and Ensure the admin is the same as your planning application on Development Server.
I created the new planning application on production server. Its working fine with admin login.
    4. Go into the database tables for the planning app on Production Server and look at table HSP_USERS; store the SID value against user 50001.
I save the SID value against 50001 in a notepad
    5. Go into the database planning system tables on Production Server and HSPSYS_APPLICATION, clear out the version field for the application you have created.
I removed the version for the application i created
    6. Stop Planning.
         I stopped the planning services
    7. Restore the planning application database on Development over the one created in the first step (to the Production Server Database).
In this steps only, i am facing diffculities.
How to take the backup of development database? (Here, i want to the take the database backup of planning application schema  or entire oracle databat in development server)
How to restore to testing env database
Please anyone guide me in this situtation. Please......
    8. Go into the HSP_USERS table and update the SID for user id 50001
    9. Start planning
    10. Go to planning web and you should see your application when you try and log in it should take you to a migrate screen.
    11. If you are requiring to migrate users as well, you will have to make sure you create them in Shared Services and then use the updateusers utility in the planning bin directory.
    Thanks,
    Lakshmi

    Hi Mars,
Thanks for your reply. I did the same as you specified. I used Imp instead of import, exp instead of export.
    7. Restore the planning application database on Development over the one created in the first step (to the Production Server Database).
I restored the Planning dmp here
    8. Go into the HSP_USERS table and update the SID for user id 50001
Here, SID remains the same after restore the backup from the development server(SID same for Development and testing Server)
    9. Start planning
    I started the Planning Services.
    10. Go to planning web and you should see your application when you try and log in it should take you to a migrate screen
    I am facing problem here.
While login into planning application, its not redirect to migrate screen. Its normally login to the application
    Thanks,
    Lakshmi
