Oracle 9i install on SuSE 8.0 Pro failing
I get the following error when I try to run the "runInstaller"
script on SuSE 8.0. I'm following the Oracle 9i SuSE installation
instructions, but can't find any reference to this error. Does
anyone have any advice?
$ ./Disk1/runInstaller
Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dynamic-link.h: 68:
elf_get_dynamic_info: Assertion `! "bad dynamic tag"' failed!
I installed SuSE 8 on its default settings yesterday, and Oracle
is the first piece of software I'm trying to insall. If it helps,
I'm using glibc 2.2.5 and the "arch" command returns i686.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Steve
You mean you actually got runInstaller to run????
How did you do that????
I've been trying for weeks and all I get is a SIGSEGV.
I'll add to your comments about Oracle by asking why they don't use either curses or (if they MUST have a GUI) Tcl/Tk for the installer program instead of this java rubbish.
8.0.5 installed with no problem on my Linux box (curses based installer).

Installing Oracle 9i R2 on SuSE 8.2 Pro
I am trying to install Oracle 9i Release 2 on SuSE 8.2 Pro.
I receive the following error message in the Universal Installer after selecting General Purpose as the Database Configuration:
"Thrown when the IP address of a host cannot be determined"
Selecting Retry or Continue just rethrows the same error.
I have completed the Tasks to Perform as root User and Tasks to Perform as the oracle User as outlined in the Installation Guide.
Any help in resolving this error would be appreciated.Hi,
I got the solution ;-)
My problems seem to bee caused by a obvisuously buggy/incompatible version of JRE in oracle's installationfileset.
I resolved the Problem by editing the JRE_LOCATION-variable in Disk1/install/linux/oraparam.ini (see below) to point to the root of my own local installation of Java 2 (java version "1.3.1_02" Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1_02-b02)).

After this change everything worked (besides some minor problems with the installed demo-database).

Can't install flash 11 on MacBook Pro (fails at 55% progress
HI
I'm trying to update flash to v.11 on Macbook but the install fails after about 55%. I've uninstalled the old version and tried various workarounds as noted on this forum but nothing seems o work.
Anyone having similar problems?Late late last night I solved the problem
I have both Adobe Acrobat X Pro and Adobe Reader X
I could neither update Reader nor install Reader X1.
On a hunch, I launched Acrobat Pro , was notified of update which I could not install, either.
Same error message about a changed environment as I had received when unable to update Reader .
Recalling I had similar Adobe issue one or more years ago, I UNINSTALLED Acrobat Pro and reinstalled from scratch
- I was then able to upgrade Acrobat Pro X
- I was able to install Reader Xl -
Oracle 8.0.5 & SuSE 6.0 Install Problems
I am attempting to install Oracle 8.0.5 on to my SUSE 6.0 Linux
system. I have followed the instructions in the Oracle Install
manual but receive the following two error messages:
When attempting to run the oratab.sh shell script I get the
message "GROUPS: readonly variable"
When attempting to execute the orainst file I receive a message
stating that "Permission Denied"
I am faily new to Linux and have not installed any patches to
the basic install of SUSE 6. Are any patches necessary?
I would appreciate any help anyone can give me in getting Oracle
8.0.5 working on my machine.
Thanks,

But this massage pop up when I used my browser first time before start database.
Actually when I clicks on yes to start database.
The web browser you are using is not optimized for this release of Oracle enterprise manager. It is recommended that you use one of the following:
* Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5, 6.0 or higher
* Netscape Navigator version 7 and higher
*Mozilla version 1.3.1 and higher
Dose any one know hoe to upgrade mozilla or install internet explorer 5.5, 6.0 or higher or SLES 8.

10g on SuSE 9.1 Pro issue
Hi everybody!
I am a newbie in this area (Oracle & Linux) and I need some help here...
I have succesfuly installed Oracle 10g on SuSE 9.1 Pro (kernel 2.6.4), following the step by step procedures as described by Oracle (oracle user account, dba and oinstall groups, kernel parameters, shell limits, environment variables for the oracle account...) BUT...after rebooting, any connection to the host, nomatter what port(5500,5560 etc), is refused...WHY?...There are no changes in the network configuration, the firewall service is off...
Could somebody give me an advice?
Thanks!emctl start dbconsole

How can I get CPAN DBD::Oracle to install with XE?
It can't find oracle.mk so it dies. I'm also going to contact the DBD::Oracle module author, but just in case someone on these forums has already solved this, I'm also posting here. The output from the install was:
CPAN.pm: Going to build T/TI/TIMB/DBD-Oracle-1.16.tar.gz

The oracle.mk (or demo_rdbms.mk) file is part of the Oracle
RDBMS product. The proc.mk (or demo_proc.mk) file is part of
the Oracle Pro*C product. You need to build DBD::Oracle on a
system which has one of these Oracle components installed.
(Other *.mk files such as the env_*.mk files will not work.)
In the unlikely event that a suitable *.mk file is installed
somewhere non-standard you can specify where it is using the -m option:
perl Makefile.PL -m /path/to/your.mk
See README.clients for more information and some alternatives.
at Makefile.PL line 922.
So is there a different *.mk file that can be specified per the above? As an FYI I tried demo_xe.mk on my Fedora Core 4 box (Perl 5.8.6) and got this.

Oracle 8.1.5 on Windows XP Pro
Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle 8.1.5 on windows XP pro, when installing i get the message saying "Invalid staging area". It will get a bit further if i run setup.exe in compatibility mode for Windows98, but seems to halt installation when trying to install a file called comUS.msd (- not sure if i have extension correct) it as at 76% of installation.
Does anyone know how to get around this problem?
Thanks
Nick.
PS the machine runs an AMD Athlon 1.7GHz processor tooYou may want to search the database forums or All forums categories first to see if this question is already answered. I see at least 6 threads in the database category level and 21 threads when I searched all categories for "invalid staging area." If you still do not the find the answer, please repost your question in the database forum.

Oracle 8.0.5 & SUSE Linux 6.0
I am attempting to install Oracle 8.0.5 on SuSE 6.0 Linux but
receive the following error messages:
When running oratabs.sh - "GROUPS: read only variable"
When running orainst - "Permission Denied"
I have no patches installed on SuSE - do I need any? If so what
and where are they?
I would realy appreciate some help as I am not a Linux expert.
Thanks,
Mark Warner
nullHi Markus,
I don't know what exactly getImportedKeys/getExportedKeys do.
I suppose it's some kind of select on the data dictionary views.
The reason for the slow performance could be miss-configuration
of Oracle or a very large number of objects (say more than 20000
tables).
I could advice that you check there's nothing else in the SYSTEM
tablespace than the data dictionary.
U could use:
select * from dba_segments where OWNER not in ('SYS','SYSTEM')
and TABLESPACE_NAME = 'SYSTEM';
I could recomend that you set shared_pool_size to 100MBytes, and
db_block_buffers*db_block_size to 100MB.
Hope this helps,
Best regards,
Michael
P.S. it could help if you publish some of the SQL statements that
are slow.

Say, anyone seen this error during install? The file or directory "proc" is indeed missing... is this a known shortcoming of this release? Can these make errors be ignored?

Marc BoorshteinI am experiencing the same problem. There seems to be a horrible bug in the installer program. No problems are reported
at the end of the install log. But earlier I find messages such as:
Festlegen des Wertes f|r PROD_HOME zu /oracle9201/../oui
oracle.swd.oui Produktverzeichnis: Das Verzeichnis /oui konnte nicht erstellt werden. Entweder haben Sie nicht die erforderlichen Berechtigungen oder der Datentrdger verf|gt nicht |ber ausreichend Speiche
For some strange reason it seems to use /oracle9201 as base here instead of $ORACLE_HOME which is /oracle9201/product/home. But of course the / directory is not writable for the oracle user.
The backslashes do not look good either. And again for some reason it does not use ORACLE_HOME as base directory here. Moreover the system has installed some things twice, in $ORACLE_HOME AND in /oracle9201. I think there is a problem in the installation program that uses the wrong path for some base directory. It can probably be overcome by giving oracle access to the / directory and then later copying these files into ORACLE_HOME. But who wants to give oracle-User access to / directory? -
I have installed ORACLE 9i R2 on SuSE with no errors. And I have configured my OMS with no errors. But when I use "oemctl start oms" to start OMS,it said "Time out to start oms,......checking oem.nohup".I opened the oem.nohup,it said /usr/bin/nice /opt/oracle/product/9.2.0/bin/oemLaunchOms:Bat interpreter,No such file or directory. But I can find nice and oemLaunchOms in they directory.Somebody can help me?
Well, what about the listener and the instance ? are they running ? If not, plz start it first, before you start OMS. You have to start the listener first, then the instance. Do not do it vice versa or the OMS will give you an error.
Hope this help

Oracle 9i installation on SuSE 7.3 freezes
Hello-
just tried to install Oracle 9i on my SuSE 7.3 Linux box. After
the software installation I tried to create a new database
with "dbca", but when Oracle starts to create the database it
freezes the whole system. I can't even move the mouse cursor
then.
What's wrong?
Thanks in advance.
WojtekSome screensavers on KDE on SuSE 7.3 freezes; Oracle9i behaves
erratically on my incarnation of 7.3 during installation. I've
had it lock up the session, log off the session, and tank the
whole computer. All while trying to install the database
product.
I have not tried the various tips and such found here yet.
Most Linux installations allow multiple window managers,
selectable at logon; perhaps any KDE issues can be circumvented
by using a less complex wm...?
