Oracle 9i install problem in Windows XP under Virtual PC

Let me start by saying, I apologize for this. I know 9i is deprecated, but it is the only liensed copy of Oracle we have. I can get it to install under Windows XP with no problems at all. However, when I try the same install in a virtualized XP environment I get the following. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

• Oracle 8i EE Install problems on Windows 2000

Problem 1 - LENGTH OF INSTALL FILES PATH.
The Oracle Universal Installer was coming up fine, but the "Next" button wouldn't do anything. After much trial and error, I discovered this to be related to the path of the install files. Rather than burning to CD, I had copied the install files into a directory C:\ORA816 - when I renamed this directory to just C:\O, the "Next" magically began working. This problem only occurs on Windows 2000, not NT4.
Problem 2 - CREDENTIAL RETRIEVAL FAILED.
I got this error (ORA-12638) from the Database Configuration Assistant. This just happened, so I haven't had a chance to figure it out. Has anyone encountered/fixed this problem in Windows 2000? I am running the install as Administrator.

Re: Problem 2. Just found out that this problem is resolved by removing the line SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES from
%ORACLE_HOME%\network\admin\sqlnet.ora

• Oracle 11g R2 install problem on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

Hi all,
Trying to install the Oracle 11g R2 database onto Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1.
I get as far as running the setup and a black window flashes up on the screen and disappears.
The log files only show the following:
Using paramFile: C:\Temp\database\install\oraparam.ini
Checking monitor: must be configured to display at least 256 colors. Actual 65536 Passed
The number of files bootstrapped for the jre is 0.
The number of files bootstrapped for the oui is 0.
I've tried running setup -debug from the command line but no further information is logged.
Any help in troubleshooting further is appreciated.

That is the complete log file. No error messages or further information is given.
I'm not sure how to check:
Statement of Direction: Oracle Database 11g Release 2 – Microsoft Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 [ID 867040.1]
I have checked on:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24283/toc.htm
The server meets all the hardware requirements. The default file share is accessible and it is running a supported browser. The installer is being run with Admin rights. I'm not sure what else I need to check.

• Oracle 8i Installation problem on Windows 2000

I had purchased a Oracle8i (MS/Windows NT CD (E-Commerce), part Number A94674-01 in the month of Jun 2000.
When I tried to install Oracle 8i personal edition of Windows 2000 ver.
The installation got completed smoothly. But after that I was not able to start my database and even Windows 2000 crashed after that. After every crash I reinstalled windows 2000 and oracle 8i but the result was same. My whole purpose of purchasing Oracle 8i on windows 2000 is getting defeated.
I would request you send me solution what to do ? Or replace my Oracle S/W. Its useless for me right now.
My M/C configuration is
Dell P-III (256 MB, 300 Mhz) with sound card.
20 GB Hard Disk of 7200 rpm.
The primary O/S is Windows 98.
The Hard disk is partitioned into no. Of logical drives.
They are like 2GB of each (C, D, E, F) and G 10 GB
C part ion has got Windows. And G has got windows 2000. There is enough space in all part ions.
I would appreciate if you can solve my problem as soon as possible.
Sincerely,

• Oracle 11gR2 installation problem on Windows Server 2008 R2 datacenter

Hi
I am trying to install Oracle 11Gr2 64 bit on Windows server 2008 R2.The system configuration is "Intel Xeon, RAM 8.00 GB.
i
The installation is getting paused at the 8th step of Oracle installation.Neither i am getting any error message nor an entry is recorded in the Oracle inventory log.
It is showing a blank screen after the prerequiste checks are complete.
Request you to help me out in resolving the issue.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

Hi Helios
Thanks for the response. The database is still not created to check in the Alert log .It is still in the phase of pre-requisite checks. I did not go with Silent installation. It is a plain single instance installation.
The installation screen is greyed out with out any message or error.
Please could you share if you have any thoughts on this.

• OBIEE install problem on Windows 2008 R2 64bit server

Hi!
I have for 1 month struggled with a OBIEE 11g install on a Windows 2008 R2 64 bit server. (I have a open SR at Oracle but have not got any answer/suggestion for 2 weeks)
I follow these documentations:
Oracle® Fusion Middleware
Installation Guide for Oracle Business Intelligence
11g Release 1 (11.1.1)
E10539-01
and
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/bi.1111/e10539/c4_installing.htm#CIHDJGIH
Specially chapter 4.4.4 for the moment, cant get pass step "Specify Installation Location"
First did I run RCU against our Oracle 11g database and created the schemas for BI Publisher
Then did I install JRockIT - jrockit-jdk1.6.0_26-R28.1.4-4.0.1-windows-x64.exe
Then from JRockIT installed WLS_1035 generic.
Then configure AdminServer so thatone is up and running (even installed a HTML server from E1 to check if WLS is up and running and working)
Then start the installer (Oracle Business Intelligence, v. 11.1.1.5.0, for Microsoft Windows x86-64-bit) disk 1, setup.exe, then must I choose "software only" install. But on step 3 och 9 can I not press next, the installer says that I do not have any "Application Server" running. I have installed on E:\Oracle\Middleware but the installer can not see any application there, but I can access it thru a browser.
Tests I have done,
Install loopback adapter
Deinstall loopback
Deactivated everything but IPV4 protocoll (we have also IPV6 on all server).
Verified that we have static ip on the server
Tried installer for BIP (OBIEE) with WLS AdminServer running and without have it running.
And checked the installer logs everytime, no errors, no warning.
Is there anyone how can guide me or give some tips? I am getting frustrated after 4 weeks without success.
Best regards,
Anders

Hi!
It is the installer who not working properly, when using the "Browse", I had to choose a comletly wrong place first, and then again choose the correct installation path, after that would the understand where I wanted to install.
Best regards,
Anders

• Instalation problems on windows 8.1

I have had problems with my Itunes for some time, I kept on getting an CD Drivers not found message and to re-install Itunes. So I had time today to mess around with it, so I uninstalled Itunes and when I would try to install, the installer would get to the point of coping files then roll back and give me an error message to download and install again? Is there a tool that will completely uninstall all file, even registry keys, or are there Faqs that would guide through a registry hack, to eliminate these crumbs that are peventing the insallation?

In order to diagnose your problem you will need to download and install the below
Install the WPT (Windows Performance Toolkit)
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30652
Help with installation (if needed) is here
When you have, open an elevated command prompt and type the following
WPRUI.exe (which is the windows performance recorder) and check off the boxes for the following:
First level triage (if available), CPU usage, Disk IO.
If your problem is not CPU or HD then check off the relevant box/s as well (for example networking or registry) Please configure yours as per the below snip. This will reboot your system so make sure you save your
work
Click Start
Let it run for 60 secs or more and save the file (it will show you where it is being saved and what the file is called)
Zip the file and upload to us on Onedrive (or any file sharing service) and give us a link to it in your next post.

• How to install SUNWi1cs in Solaris 10 under Virtual Box

Hallo!I am a total newbie in Solaris.
I have installed Solaris 10 (guest OS)via Virtual Box in XP (host OS).I would like to install Oracle 10g in Solaris 10 but prerequisite s/w like SUNWi1cs and SUNWi15cs aren’t installed.
I have been trying to install this through commands such as
pkgadd –d /cdrom/cdrom0/Solaris_10/Product SUNWi1cs SUNWi15cs
but this directory does not exist.
How would I access this directory ?Will this mean mounting the CD-ROM with a Solaris 10 DVD-R disc or can I access the Solaris 10 virtual box files in the XP path shown below
C:\Documents and Settings\JOEY\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\CD Burning\SOLARIS_10\PRODUCT
The Oracle 10g for Solaris zipped file is in the XP OS.How do I transfer this file (and any other files in XP)into Solaris 10 to be able to install Oracle 10g in Solaris under Virtualbox?
Thanks.

Hi,
If u have installed Solaris operating system on some VMWare by iso file then it will treat iso file as CD. So that following steps will resolve ur issue.
1. Mount that iso file into /mnt file system.
For example ur iso mounted file system like this:-
/mnt/cdrom/Solaris_10/Product
2. Then run this command:-
pkgadd -d /mnt/Solaris_10/Product SUNWi1cs SUNWi512
It will ask would to like to add these then type Y
3. Successful installed package message will displayed.
It is the right way to add package from source

• Installing problem on Windows 2003 Server 64 bit

Dear All,
I'am trying to install XE onto a Windows 2003 Server 64 bit.. The installation process ends without any errors but the database itself seems not to start.
I tried several hints that have been mentioned here within the forum. But none of them worked. While experimenting I saw that there is not a single registry entry of Oracle within HKEY_LOCAL_MASCHINE\Software .
Is there a possiblity to set those needed registry entries manually? Is there a script for that purpose?
Thank you very much for your help!
Regards
Matthias

Hi,
thank you for your reply. As 32bit programs should run under Windows 64bit I thought the XE should run under 64bit, too.
The installation of XE itself seems to finish without any errors. But within the log files it can be read that the database has not started up due to a out of memory problem. This causes many log entries within all other logfiles as no database could be created.
The out of memory problem might be the same as within Advice on running XE on a small virtual Linux host ("Virtuozzo") because I am using a virtual windows 2003 server with "Virtuozzo", too.
At this time I am on discussing the issue with the provider. Maybe I will get a dedicated server with Windows Server 2003 64bit. Hopefully the XE could be installed on the 64bit Windows Server because 32bit dedicated servers are rare.
Best regards
Matthias

• Oracle 11g install issues on Windows 7

I have had some problems installing Oracle on Windows 7 in that it seemed to crash while checking prerequisites. After several attempts it for some reason continued the installation. I had accepted the default settings and was installing from a USB drive to the same drive. The install did have a few error messages along the way such as "file not found. F:\app\ben\product\11.2.0\dbhome_2\oc4j\j2ee\oc4j_applications\applications\em.ear" and ""file not found. F:\app\ben\product\11.2.0\dbhome_2\ctx\admin\dr0ulib.sql.sbs". Also, towards the end it gave a message "Template General_Purpose.dbc does not exist. Please specify an existing template for database creation. <OK>". Despite these errors it seemed to successfully install. On the other hand I cannot log in to it as I attempt to try to set up some kind of basic database for myself. I go to the BIN directory and run sqlplus with "system" as the username and the password I had specified, but get the error "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error". Googling around a bit I tried to see if Oracle Services was running, but only saw OracleMTSRecoveryService and OracleRemExecService (and could not work out how to get any service running beyond what was listed there). I set up the path ORACLE_HOME to the BIN directory but there was not change in the situation. I just need a to set up a basic database on my PC so I can mess around with it. How can I get this going?
Thanks,
Ben

• CF11 install problem on WIndows server 2012 R2

We have a new install windows server 2012 R2 with a new install CF11 standard installed on C drive. Everything is 64bit. The CF administrator site and login works fine. cfm files will not serve up in the default directory, but IIS shows htm files fine. CF administrator runs fine.
Web Server Config tool will only show "None" in the IIS Web Site box. The usual CGI, APS, etc have been installed on IIS. In fact IIS and CF11 have been reinstalled. wsconfig.exe manual run shows no errors.
The problem is that any call to a cfm template results in an error (html pages serve fine):
HTTP Error 500.0 - Internal Server Error
The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred.
Detailed Error Information:
Module IsapiModule
Notification ExecuteRequestHandler
Handler cfmHandler
Error Code 0x8007007f
Requested URL http://localhost:80/default.cfm
Physical Path C:\inetpub\wwwroot\default.cfm
Can anybody give any suggestions for troubleshooting? No logs seem to show any information that helps.

Fixed the problem......... it is not a CF problem alone but and mostly an IIS problem ....
1) remove IIS completely...... including the inetpub directory..... remove .NET Extensibility from server manager under Application Development if inetpub in use error is present... inetpub has to be deleted.
2) reboot
3) reinstall IIS and enable all the usual stuff, ie, CGI, ISAPI, .NET, ASP , WebSocket Protocol, etc under Application Development
4) restart IIS and CF
5) Set Web Server Config to "All"
60 restart IIS and CF
The trick to completely reinstall IIS and that is only done if you can delete the inetpub folder under root drive.

I have searched the net for the answer to this problem but I can't find an answer that works.
I've tried unsetting the following:
LANG
LC_LANG
LC_CTYPE
RC_TYPE
With no luck. I have tried pointing oracle to use my jre instead of theirs by altering the oraparam.ini file, no effect. I have taken my jre in and out of the path, no effect.
The only thing I can think of is that I don't have enough memory available - i only have 384mb available via vmware for this install. I need to figure out if it is this or something else, I can't just blame it on the lack of memory if it is not the case.
I look forward to your comments.

Zarmia
The best thing I advise you to do when installing Oracle 9i onto GNU/Debian is to carry a search on the OTN newsgroups for the keyword 'Debain'. I found that there were quite a few previous posts which explain in considerable detail the processes which should be followed when installing Oracle 9i onto Debain. Failing that, if you carry out a Google search for "Oracle 9i on Debian", you will there quite a few web pages which provide information of installing Oracle 9i onto Debian.
Hope this helps

• Oracle (de)Install problem

Hi there,
I tried to installed Oracle 9i in my NB and find below problem under Win XP Professional, P4, 256 Mb RAM, 3 Gb Free space (after copying the installer):
1. Initially, installation didn't work at all with error message "please install Java 1.3.1 or higher" eventhough JRE 1.4.2_09 had been installed.
This problem eliminated by changing the symcjit.dll. to symcjit_ori.dll. as well as giving the correct path and adding -nojit as the first argument in "JRE_MEMORY_OPTIONS" line the oraparam.ini file.
2. Afterwards, seems installation run smothly until it generated an error saying that "Configuration tool Oracle Net Configuration Assistant failed " almost at the end of installation.
3. Tried to deinstall, the same error message pop up, again saying that "please install Java 1.3.1 or higher".
Anybody have an idea what should I do to rectify this issue ? I'm pretty new in Oracle and no idea to solve it.
Thanks a lot in advance.
Best regards,
=user454292 =

The simplest way to remove Oracle is to run the Oracle installer:
Start > Programs > Oracle Installation Products > Universal Installer
On the first screen click on "Deinstall Products..."
Expand the tree view (just so that the second level is visible) and make sure you select everything that is selectable.
Click on "Remove..."
On the confirmation screen click "Yes"
When it has finished click "Close" and then "Exit" to quit the installer
Whilst the Oracle installer removes many components there are a number of things that it leaves behind. In order to completely remove all traces of Oracle the following additional steps will need to be taken:
Stop any Oracle services that have been left running. (Start > Settings > Control Panel > Services.)
Services which I have found left behind are 'OracleOraHome90TNSListener' and 'OracleServiceORACLE'. However there may be others depending on your installation. Look for any services with names starting with 'Oracle'.
Run regedit (Start > Run > Enter "regedit", click "Ok"), find and delete the following keys:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\SOFTWARE
\ORACLE
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\SYSTEM
\CurrentControlSet
\Services
\EventLog
\Application
\Oracle.oracle
Note: I have had it reported that some people also have registry entries saved under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ORACLE, this registry entry may be created by some Oracle utilities. If it exists then delete it.
Delete the Oracle home directory:
"C:\Oracle"
This will also remove your database files (unless you located them elsewhere, in which case you will need to delete them separately).
Delete the Oracle program Files directory:
"C:\Program Files\Oracle"
Delete the Oracle programs profile directory:
"C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Oracle - OraHome90"
if you did not first run the Oracle installer to remove Oracle then there may be other Oracle profile group directories to remove.
Some of the Oracle services may be left behind by the uninstall. Open ‘services’ on the control panel, make a note of which Oracle services remain and see the notes ‘How to remove a service’ to remove them.
If you didn't first run the Oracle Installer to remove Oracle then you may have some references to Oracle left in the path. To remove these: Start > Settings > Control Panel > System > Advanced > Environment Variables, look at both the use and system variable 'PATH' and edit them to remove any references to Oracle.

• SQL Developer install problems for Windows 7 Home edition

Hi there,
I understand Windows 7 64-bit is not supported for oracle 11gR2 but I installed it anyway.
This is not my problem.
I am trying to install SQL Developer and am getting this error when I click on the set up:
Unable to launch the Java Virtual machine, located at path:
C:\Program Files(x86)Java\jdk1.6.0_21\bin\msvcr71.dll
When I check the version of my java it is correctly displaying 1.6.0_21 for my 64 bit.
I read that you need the 32 bit one installed as well and I do. In my Program Files there is a java and a \jdk1.6.0_21 folder. In the bin directory it does not have this .dll:
msvcr71.dll
Is that the problem, because i have heard of other people getting sql developer working on their Windows 7 home laptops but they are old posts and I'm not getting any reply.
I also changed the Environmental variable for the path, such as:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21
C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21\bin
C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21 /bin
and none of the 3 above worked for me either.
Any suggestions are appreciated!

I unzipped the sql developer download to C:\Windows and it unzipped fine. I went into my folder of sql developer, double clicked the sql developer.exe and it asked for the path for java. I clicked Browse and the default was C:\Program Files(x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_21\bin so I chose the java from this folder. It accepted the argument, tried to start sql developer, and came up with the same error, so something is still not right that I am not understanding??
