Oracle 9i Installation Error on Red Hat 7.2

Can anyone help me? Im trying to install Oracle 9i on a RedHat 7.2. I always get an error message after executing runInstaller :( is my installer corrupted or something?
./runInstaller: cannot execute binary file
please help, thanks ....

You all have downloaded wrong version of Oracle. better to say ORACLE BINARIES for WRONG PLATFORM.
Do not download
Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard Edition for Linux/IA64, Release 2 (v9.2.0.2) New
instead of that download
Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard Edition for Linux

  • Oracle Installation errors on Red Hat AS 2.1

Hi, I've installed Oracle 9i on a Red Hat AS 2.1, but after the installation, when running the Database Configuration Assistant gave this error:
    ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
I found an installation guide on http://www.puschitz.com and it recommends you, when this error comes up , to remove the shared memory segments owned by oracle, and i did so, it just couldn't remove on , which chmod was 777..after that i retry the Database configuration assistan and it failed again but telling me a different error happened:
    ORA-12571:TNS:Packet writer failure....
And i tried again and got the same error i got in the first place...and so on, and so on....
    What can i do????
    thanks...

    Khalid,
This combination is strongly not recommended. Oracle 8.0.5 was built with GNU Lib C 2.0, which is 2 generations ago. It will not work once installed and I do not know if the old glibc compatibility libraries would be available.
I would encourage you to use Oracle 8i (8.1.7.0.1) or wait a few days for Oracle 9i.

  • Installing Oracle 8.1.5 in Red Hat Linux 6.2

    Hi,
I'm trying to install Oracle 8.1.5 in Red Hat Linux 6.2. But when I run the runInstaller
command it gives the following error & quit.
    [oracle@localhost cdrom]$ ./runInstaller
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /usr/local/jre/bin/jre. Please wait...
    Error in CreateOUIProcess(): -1
    : Bad address
And I tried to run the Installer with jre1.1.6 & jre 1.1.7. Both producing the same
    error.
You may think why I'm using the old version of Oracle. It's an urgent need for
    me at the moment.
Hope someone could guide me in the correct path to install.
    Thx in advance.

    You need to install java.

    Thank you very much

Make sure you are using a compatible version of Java and the glibc is correct.
RH9 came in 2 versions - boxed and downloaded. The Boxed version was older and was compatible with Oracle 8.1.7, but the downloaded one upgraded the glibc and broke everything.
Not sure why you are trying to install obsolete versions of both the OS and the database, but - expect challenges, and expect that very few people (if anyone) are knowledgeable, or even interested, in that combination.
But if you insist ... http://www.orafaq.com/wiki/Oracle8i_release_3_%288.1.7%29_on_RedHat_9 will give some advice on the downloaded RH9. Good luck.

  • Installing Oracle Database 10g  on Linux Red Hat 5.1

While inslalling Oracle Database 10g Client Release 2 (10.2.0.1.0) for Linux x86-64 on Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.1 (Tikanga) we've got an error
    Checking operating system version: must be redhat-3, SuSE-9, redhat-4, UnitedLinux-1.0, asianux-1 or asianux-2
    Failed <<<<
Could we install Oracle Database 10g on Linux Red Hat 5.1 or we need only Oracle Database 11g?

Verify that the redhat-release RPM is installed on your Red Hat system:
    rpm -q redhat-release
This RPM is important for RHEL since RHEL AS 4, RHEL AS 3, and RHEL AS 2.1 are Linux releases supported by Oracle. Without this RPM, Oracle 10g OUI won't be able to recognize it as a supported OS. However, the installer of 10g 10.1.0.3 does not recognize RHEL AS 4 as a supported release yet. This means that you will have to edit the /etc/redhat-release file. You also have to change /etc/redhat-release for unsupported releases like Fedora Core and RH9.
I do not recommend to execute "runInstaller -ignoreSysPrereqs" since this will disable other checks you probably don't want to.
On RHEL AS 4 (for 10g R1), RH9, and FC 1 you have to change the /etc/redhat-release file to make Oracle 10g believe it's running on a supported release.
Regarding RHEL AS 4, the installer for 10g 10.1.0.3 does not recognize RHEL AS 4 as a supported release but 10g R2 OUI does.
To change the /etc/redhat-release file, you can simply copy/paste the following commands:
    su - root
    cp /etc/redhat-release /etc/redhat-release.orig
    cat > /etc/redhat-release << EOF
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 3 (Taroon)
    EOF
After you are done with the Oracle10g installation, undo the changes you made to /etc/redhat-release:
    su - root
    cp /etc/redhat-release.orig /etc/redhat-release

  • Problem installing Oracle 8.0.5 on Red Hat Linux 7.0

    Hi,
Due to a software requirement, I have to install Oracle 8.0.5 on Red Hat Linux 7.0. (I know Oracle 8.0.5 is pretty old and so as RH Linux 7.0 but that is what required).
I downloaded the Oracle8051EE_Intel.tgz from Oracle and tried to installed it but it didn't work.
It crashed out when it tried to run some of the SQL script during the installation using SVRMGRL. Later on, we found out all the binaries under $ORACLE_HOME/bin were corrupted during the installation. We did a comparison of the size of SVRMGRL and SQLPLUS and they are different from the Stage (or the one from the .tgz).
Does anyone have this problem before? Will 8.0.5 works on Linux 7.0?
Thanks in advanced for any help.
    Best regards,
    William

    get started.

  • Oracle 8.1.7 on Red Hat 9 Linux?

    Hello All,
Is it possible to install Oracle 8.1.7 on RedHat Linux 9?
I'll use this for development only, not for production.
If possible, can we install it using installation instructions for Red Hat 7.3? (Using all the required libraries, etc)
    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Gatut

Yes there is a lot of information out there. Oracle 8.1.6,
    8.1.7, 9 on Linux 6, 7, 9.
    Which glibc? binutils? compat-libs?
    For 8.1.7 on Redhat 9
    Please try: http://www3.sympatico.ca/arothmel/oracle/817.html
    Still evolving. Feedback welcome :)

  • Oracle 8.1.7 on Red Hat 7.3

I am about to embark on an application upgrade. Currently, it runs on HP-UX (extortionate hardware prices) but I'm wanting to move to a Dell PowerEdge platform running Linux.
The problem that I have is that my prefered platform the PE2600 ships with Red Hat 7.3, whereas my application vendor ships the application with Oracle 8.1.7, which (they tell me) is certified on Red Hat 7.1 but not on 7.3.
So as far as I see it, either I attempt the application installation with RH 7.3 and hope for the best with regards to the App/Oracle (the supplier "...would support on a best efforts basis and would not support any issues they could not reproduce on Red Hat version 7.1"). Or I try to obtain a copy of RH7.1 and hope that it runs OK on the PE2600 (device drivers etc.).
Any experiences of either running Oracle 8.1.7 on Red Hat 7.3 or running Red Hat 7.1 on a PowerEdge 2600 (maybe not really this forum) would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Gary Cooper

Are you ever going to call Oracle, RedHat, or HP for support? If so, I say go with the suggested options. If you need high end performance, go with RedHat Advanced Server 2.1 and Oracle 9.2.0.1.

  • Installing Oracle 10g Express Edition on Red Hat Linux

    Hi,
I am new with Linux Os and have to install oracle 10g Express Edition on Red Hat Linux Os for a customer. So before proceeding, I need some guidelines.
    1) which Linux(freeware) flavor should I install ?
    2) is there any virtual enviornment available for Linux Os on which I can install 10g Express Edition database ?
    3) If available, is there any difference in using the Linux Os in Virtual enviornment and actual installing Linux ? will there be any difference in installing database and configuration for both the cases?
    4) need download link for latest version of Red Hat Linux setup
    Regards
    Edited by: user640001 on Feb 25, 2011 5:44 AM

    1) which Linux(freeware) flavor should I install ?Ordinarily, I'd recommend getting Oracle Linux (http://eDelivery.oracle.com/linux) because the default install includes all the prerequisite RPM packages you will need. And failing that, also offers another RPM package "oracle-validated" which will cause the installation of the necessary prerequisites.
But... you mentioned customer: if this is a revenue-producing situation and customer money is at stake, I strongly recommend they obtain commercial O/S support with either Oracle, Red Hat, or maybe SuSE/Novell. Compared to the cost of a downed business, an O/S support arrangement is cheap, cheap, cheap.
    2) is there any virtual enviornment available for Linux Os on which I can install 10g Express Edition database ?Sure. You can run Oracle VirtualBox on most Linux, Windows, or Solaris boxes. http://VirtualBox.org for info.
    3) If available, is there any difference in using the Linux Os in Virtual enviornment and actual installing Linux ? will there be any difference in installing database and configuration for both the cases? No real differences in either environment.
    4) need download link for latest version of Red Hat Linux setupWhat, you didn't try http://eDelivery.oracle.com/linux yet?
