Oracle 9i installation problem on Gentoo Linux

Hi!
After setting up the useraccount for the required installation step I face on the bash console a problem with this message:
./runInstaller
bash-2.05b$ Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /tmp/OraInstall2005-04-06_09-57-12PM/jre/bin/java. Please wait...
head: `-1' option is obsolete; use `-n 1' since this will be removed in the future
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Unable to load native library: /tmp/OraInstall2005-04-06_09-57-12PM/jre/lib/i386/libjava.so: symbol __libc_wait, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference
for any help, I would thank.

Simply the problem can be solved setting a different Java Runtime Environent Path inside the configuration files located in the DISK1 folder.
The files:
/tmp/Disk1/install/oraparam.var
/tmp/Disk1/install/linux/oraparam.ini
must be edited!
The Variable: JRE_LOCATION must be set with the new path or the Java Runtime Environment (Can be also the J2sdk).

Simply the problem can be solved setting a different Java Runtime Environent Path inside the configuration files located in the DISK1 folder.
    The files:
    /tmp/Disk1/install/oraparam.var
    /tmp/Disk1/install/linux/oraparam.ini
    must be edited!
The Variable: JRE_LOCATION must be set with the new path or the Java Runtime Environment (Can be also the J2sdk).

Thanks Girish. But all my findings says NO NO and NO.
    From http://www.oracle.com/technology/support/metalink/index.html
Certify - Product Version and Other Selections: Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition On Linux x86-64 (AMD64/EM64T)
General Notes For Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition On Linux x86-64 (AMD64/EM64T):

    "Running Oracle 32-bit on AMD64/EM64T (64-bit OS) is not supported . "
Oracle 32-bit running on AMD64/EM64T with a 32-bit OS is supported, refer to platform Linux x86 for more information on product availability.
Note: As Ivan confirmed EM64T is mark for Intel 64 (x86-64) processors.
Even the metalink Note: 182999.1 says...
    "A 32-bit application will work on both a 32-bit and 64-bit O/S, whereas a 64-bit application will only work on a 64-bit O/S."
    but the same articel says
"Note: These statements do not necessarily apply to Oracle on Windows O/S's, Itanium or AMD64/EM64T based Platforms. See Certify for specific information."
and then I got update from Support. Even they Say....
"No it is not suggested that you run Oracle at 32 bits for a Linux X86_64 platform. This would not be a good idea"
I guess I need to sit with my senior DBAs and SA tomorrow to find the path forward...
    Thanks all.

I am using Diamond TNT2 video card. I have tried to install new (not newest) detonator drive and VIA 4 in 1 driver ver4.29 but it still gives me the error. Would it help if I install Java2 runtime on this computer?

  • Oracle 10g XE installation problem on Ubuntu Linux, Oracle will not start

    Hi,
After installing the pakages the error is when I call sqlplus and login as SYS :-
oracleXE: error while loading shared libraries: libaio.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    ERROR:
    ORA-12547: TNS:lost contact
    What I have done:-
My system is 64 bit AMD.
I installed .deb package on Ubuntu 9.04 server. I installed the following packages.
    1.     ibc6-i386
    2.     libaio_0.3.104-1_i386.deb
    3.     bc
    4.     oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb.
The Oracle processes do not start after running /etc/init.d/oracle-xe start.
I can tnsping from the local machine.
dpkg -l |grep libaio gives the following:
ii libaio1 0.3.107-3ubuntu1 Linux kernel AIO access library - shared lib

I have been running XE on 9.04 (32bit on my laptop - 64bit on my workstation) and both works fine. I had no problem installing. I followed the directions in documents I found on Ubuntu forums and also google. The document I used to install on 64bit was from http://littlebrain.org
    I remember using
    dpkg -i --force-architecture libaio1_0.3.107-1ubuntu1_i386.deb
    dpkg -i --force-architecture libaio-dev_0.3.107-1ubuntu1_i386.deb
    dpkg -i --force-architecture libaio1-dbg_0.3.107-1ubuntu1_i386.deb
    dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb
and then I used the ./oracle-xe configure as root, the installation was ok - and I have even updated the APEX version to 3.2.1 on the XE installation running on my 64bit Ubuntu 9.04
    hope this proves useful

    Hi Terry,
I initially experienced the same "connection refused" message as
you from xlib when performing a local installation using GNOME.
My problem was to do with logging on to X as root (to mount the
CDROM) and then switching to the oracle account to do the
    install.
If I logged to X as oracle I didn't need to change the default
    DISPLAY value of :0 .

    hi,
I am installing oracle 10g on red hat linux. I read the complete documentation and the mailing lists and have installed all the required RPMs.
When I start install, I get the following three errors:
error in invoking target 'install' of makefile
    'u/01/app/oracle/ctx/lib/ins_ctx.mk'.
error in invoking target 'agent nmo nmb' of makefile
    'u/01/app/oracle/ctx/lib/ins_sysman.mk'.
error in invoking target 'all_no_orcl' of makefile
    'u/01/app/oracle/ctx/lib/ins_rdbms.mk'.
This error is popped up when the link part is going on. I am installing the standard edition and have done all the possible things mentioned in the documentation.
Can someone pls help me understand where is the problem
    thanx in advance,
    jayesh

i had the same sequence of errors on installing (10g on Redhat AS4)
The first error (INFO: /usr/bin/ld: crt1.o: No such file: No such file or directory
) is solved by installing the following package (you need the glibc-devel i386 package installed as well as the x86_64 version)

The second error, I am currently stuck at (error in invoking target agent nmo nmb...of makefile ins_sysman.mk)

  • OracleAS 10g Installation Problem on RedHat AS 3.0

    Hi
I need to install OracleAS 10g on RedHat AS 3.0 and it seems that I need a patch (Patch 3006854) and the installation is impossible without it.I just started using oracleAS 10g and I dont have any metalink id.
I think something is wrong here.
a free trial version with a commercial patch !!!
can any one please help me out.
    regards yashar

    dear fredrik
I tried to install it according to the installation guid on http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/OracleAS10gInstallationOnRedHatAS3.php as you see it asked for installation of a patch.
and yes I tried to install it without installing this patch and I got an error saying that I am missing a file named ld.so in /etc.I thought it might be connected to that patch.
beside when I was looking for the solution to my problem I saw many people having the same problem and asking the exact same question.
please notify about any solution that you think might help me solving this problem. I am in a hurry

When i look at the Cache location, i see the file f90all_jinit.jar-4cf20c5f-178c08b8(zipped). The size of this file stays the same even though browser keeps spinning. Not sure what is going on. I've verified that the Forms servers is still running on the HP box.
Tried Jinitator 1.3.1.6, 1.3.1.8, 1.3.1.9 and 1.3.1.13. We've also tried Windows XP (IE6) as well as Windows NT (IE5). Same result on all the platforms.

  • Oracle 9i Installation Problem on XP

    Help!
    Downloaded Oracle 9i yesterday.
Created disk1/2/3 folders as instructed. Installation worked for disk1, and part of 2.
Installation stopped at 37% installation of PL/SQL (left it all night).
Cancelled out and stopped installation on the whole product.
Now I can not able to install or uninstall!!
Product does not show up in the control system/add remove program.
NO UNINSTALL executable with the oracle download.
Does anyone know what registry files to delete?
Can't delete oracle folder as message says oci.dll in use.
Don't see any oracle process in task manager.
    Sandhya

Same kind of problem I come across.
What I did was. Cleared the registry information and I installed again. Worked for me fine. May be it will work for you too.
May be this time you will success.
    Good Luck.
    Directions
    Run : regedit (Start ->Run)
Look for the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> Software --> Oracle
