Oracle 9i installtion problen on RH21AS 2.4.9-e.3

Hi,
I am installing Oracle 9i cluster on RH21AS kernel version 2.4.9-e.3. Using the doc "Tips to install oracle 9i on RH21AS" I have installed my OS configured it to install oracle. I could get Oracle cluster manager installed and started (using watchdog). I proceeded to install "oracle enterprise" version that supports oracle clustering (I am using LVM, rawdevices). Now at the end of installation post install tasks like starting http server, cluster manager....failed though the message on there says it is not necessary for these process to succeed. Now that cluster manager and net configuration and agent configuration failed I am trying to do that manually. I started dbca to configure cluster database but erred saying to start "gsd". I started gsd and when I try to check the status "gsdctl stat"
I get this error message "CMCLI ERROR: CMRPC: dropping message that doesnt match, reqMsg :"
Any one any idea whats going on? I would appreciate any help in this regard. And I also read about hangcheck-timer I would like to install that can any one provide any further assistance regarding this?
Thank you.
S

maybe because your jre version is older than the one required for the installation...
Also as far as i remember you can use the jsdk 1.4.2_12 for IA32 in your 64 server... correct me if i'm wrong.

Juan

    ssh client is not a web browser. Maybe us use lynx or links?
    I tried them and I was not able to download the files too.
    You know I was not able to login neither. To download XE you have to register and login to OTN.
    I suggest to use ssh X11 forward and GUI browser to download...

  • Oracle 10g Installtion error Network Configuration requirements ... failed

    Checking Network Configuration requirements ...
    Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed <<<<
    Problem: The install has detected that the primary IP address of the system is DHCP-assigned.
    Recommendation: Oracle supports installations on systems with DHCP-assigned IP addresses; However, before you can do this, you must configure the Microsoft LoopBack Adapter to be the primary network adapter on the system. See the Installation Guide for more details on installing the software on systems configured with DHCP.

    Are you installing Oracle 10G R2? If this is the case then for DHCP network environments, you need to create a Microsoft loop back adapter.
    Microsoft Loopback Adapter creation:
    ===========================
    Step 1: Programs -> control panel -> Add Hardware.
    Step 2: In the Add Hardware wizard. Click 'Next' and select 'Yes, I have already connected the hardware'. option and click on 'Next'.
    Step 3: Select the last option 'Add a new hardware device' from the 'Installed hardware' window and click on 'Next'.
    Step 4: Select the last option 'Install hardware that I manually select from the list (Advanced) and click on 'Next'.
    Step 5: Select 'Network adapters' in 'Common hardware types' list and click on 'Next'.
    Step 6: Where you can see 'Microsoft loopback adapter' on the right hand side of the frame.
    Step 7: proceed with all default installation and then try installing Oracle.
    I hope this will suffice.
    Thanks

  • Hosted Environment - Oracle 10gAS installtion architecture

    Present:
    We have a business application developed using Oracle DB, Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports. Our application is some what like Oracle Applications/eBusiness Suite (earlier version) with smaller footprint for mid to small customers using end to end Oracle Technology stack.
    At present we have a hosted environment for 16 different customers with 16 different databases (Version 8i) that store business/application data. These are installed in FOUR Hardware Boxes/Servers. We have Oracle Forms (6.x) and Reports (6.x) runtimes installed on 5 different boxes. We use CITRIX to host the presentation layer to our 16 customers.
    Future:
    We have upgraded our application/package and now we are using Oracle Technology Stack Oracle DB (10G), 10G suite of Oracle Application Server (Oracle Portal, Oracle Forms, Oracle Reports, Discoverer, Java and PL/SQL). Our application is somewhat like Oracle Applications/eBusiness Suite (11i) with smaller footprint for mid to small customers using end to end Oracle Technology stack.
    Now coming to hosting this new version, we are going to have FOUR DB servers to host the DB 10G and we do not anticipate any issues. This is what we have now.
    Now coming to installing and hosting “Application Server” that can serve all 16 customers, we are debating on what is the best approach. We certainly are NOT going to install in 16 different boxes. We like to install 4-6 customers in EACH box and also configure to load balancing, fail over etc. i.e. We like to have 16 middle tiers and 16 infrastructures installed in 4-6 boxes. Of course we could us DB server to install infrastructures. So the questions are…
    1.     Can we install 16 Infrastructures and 16 middle tiers on 4-6 Boxes?
    2.     If not, should we install the infrastructures in the Database servers and only use Middle Tier for these 5-6 boxes?
    What is the best and supported approach?

    You can install multiple infrastructures on the same box if you create the repository using MRCA. In this architecture you would first create multiple databases on your database tier cluster, and then create the repository schemas with the MRCA tool, after that you would install the infrastructures, pointing the installer to the repository database.
    You could also have a single infrastructure cluster and work with multiple realms on a single directory. The memory footprint of a single install would be smaller, as there will be no need for multiple Apache and OC4J runtimes for each infrastructure. Maintenance will also be easier without multiple environments to apply patches to.
    You probably will want to implement a cluster based on OID replication, to allow for rolling upgrades and patching of the infrastructure with virtually no downtime.
    About installing the infrastructures on the database boxes, I personally dont like the idea of having web servers on database boxes, but you could install OID on them. Currently there are many possible install topologies, including moving the SSO and DAS to a 10.1.3 version web tier. You could check the enterprise deployment guide for AS 10.1.2 and 10.1.3, and for IDM 10.1.4.

    Luis

  • Ubantu -- is Certified for Oracle database installtion?

    Namaste,
    I have got the following Ubantu machine for learning purpose.
    uname –r --> 2.6.24-19-server
    uname --> Linux
    uname -v --> SMP wed jun 18 2008
    My questions is....
    1. Is Ubantu is a certified OS by Oracle to install their database?
    2. Do I need any additional packages to install Oracle database?
    Thank you,
    Gish

    user517525 wrote:

    The reason I asked is to make sure the OS will not limit my learning abilities.
    GishIn that case, you should go for a full supported OS, Oracle Entreprise Linux, free of use, and with the latest version 5.3, no need to install additional packages if you choose the good option during installation. This is one of the easiest solution do not bother with the OS.
    Furthermore, OEL (free, supported, update not free), or CentOS (free, not supported, updates free) are very similar, do not say identical, they are based on same Linux OS, RedHat (not free, supported), and recut with new logo and splash screen.

  • Important to most of oracle users - suggestions requested

    I want to buy a new laptop with windows vistha home/professional laptop.
    I heard and doubt that if it would support following oracle tools installtion:
    Oracle Client,
    Forms, Reports developer
    Oracle Workflow
    Oracle Discoverer Reports
    Oracle BI/XML Publisher
    If it does not support these at this point, I would think Oracle is going to release some special release for Windows Vista home/professional.
    Experts, please I need your suggestion.. should I go for it or only look for XP pro release 2?
    Thanks a lot in advance for your time and helping..
    Narasimha

    Vista: It's a bit rubbish (IMHO).
    You could install a Red Hat variant, such as Centos, install VMware on that, and then use other operating systems on VMware to run everything else.
    If you want a good guide to installing VMware for Oracle usage, see http://www.dizwell.com/prod/node/695#exotica
