Oracle 9i Internet Application Server running on HP-UX 11i v1.6Itanium R2

Hello everybody,
I have a customer migrating from IAS R1 to IAS R2, we are to recommend the hardware platform and i would like to know if someboby knows if IAS Realease 2 is fully running on HP-UX 11i version 1.6 and Itanium release 2.
Is the IAS R2 released for Itanium R2?

Deploying Forms with Forms6i/Oracle Internet Application Server 8i - need help!

Hi Gurus!
I am trying to setup the Oracle Internet Application Server 8i (Release 1.0)and deploy the forms to the web. The server is on Solaris. I have installed and configured the application server. I used the 'runform.htm'and 'test.fmx' to test the installation of the application server on the Server machine. In that case it works fine and shows the message 'Application Server is up and running'. Where as if I tried to access the same 'runform.htm'and 'test.fmx' from another client machines through a web browser it is not executing the 'test.fmx' and throws the following error:
" FRM-92060:Failed to connect to the Server. Bad machine specification:'hostname':9001"

oracle.forms.engine.RunformException:FRM-92060: Failed to connect to the Server.
I am using the default port#9001 to run the Forms server (i tried using another port and i got the same error). The web server is listnening on the port 7777.
I am not sure what needs to be fixed. Can someone please through some light on this?

The Oracle 8i jvm component (formerly known as JSERVER) was designed to support server side java.
This component was initially developed and included in the Oracle 8i rdbms 8.1.5.
Enhancements continued to be implemented with the 8.1.6 and 8.1.7 releases
IAS uses the same oracle 8i JVM from the rdbms to support java code on the middle tier.
Here's how the IAS version and the RDBMS version match up on the Oracle 8i jvm's features.
RDBMS 8.1.6 with IAS 1.0.0 (unix) / 1.0.1(NT)
RDBMS 8.1.7 with IAS 1.0.2 (new name IAS 9i)
8.1.6 / IAS 1.0.0 / IAS 1.0.1 supports :
session EJB's(1.0 spec), corba objects and java stored procedures
8.1.7 / IAS 1.0.2 (aka IAS 9i) supports :
The 8.1.7 implementation will support the 8.1.6 features listed above plus the ejb 1.1 spec (entity ejb's -- see below), servlets and java server pages.
note : in another thread Mr. Devin clarified the current status of the EJB 1.1 spec (entity beans)in the 8.1.7 solaris release and the future win nt release.
If I remember correctly, Mr. Devin reported a last minute issue has delayed the support for the entity bean feature but ejb spec 1.0 / 1.1 session beans are in place.
When the entity bean issue is resolved, a software patch needed to support the entity bean feature will be provided in a rdbms patch.

Load balancing Oracle Forms in Application Server

Hi,
We're currently planning moving from client-server forms to webforms running on Oracle Application Server (10.1.2.0.2). To meet our high availability requirements, we plan to run our forms app servers active-active. We're coming a little unstuck determining the best method of load balancing requests between these however.
Currently the main sticking point is determining whether to go for software or hardware load balancers. One of the main things we're unsure of is how much traffic we can expect to flow through the network. In our client-server environment we typically have 900-1000 active connections during peak load and ~350 forms coming in at just over 300Mb in total.
If you have any experience load balancing between Oracle Forms on Application Server, we'd appreciate it if you could share details of you setup and how it's performing; particularly:
* Whether you have software/hardware load balancing
* The number of connections this supports
* Details of the volume of network traffic you have

We have implemented both hardware load-balancers and Webcache as load-balancer. Depending on the situation either may be the best solution. In general we recommend to use hardware load-balancers for production systems that require high availability. However, Webcache is very reliable as well and a Webcache instance can be recovered very quickly in case of a failure (use the cloning facility to create a copy of the instance on new hardware within minutes).
When using https for your applications we do not recommend to use WebCache as there are several issues to cope with then, one is performance (https acceleration facilities are often part of hardware load-balancers).

According to Larry Ellison talking to CNBC, Oracle is going to unveil the "Internet Application Server" on June the 28th. Does any one know anything about it? Oracle seems to guard it as a top secret. Is it a fully J2EE compliant app server? Will is completely replace OAS? And is it too late to get to the market, having beaten by WebLogic, iPlanet, Gemstone/J, JRun, SilverStream and a bunch of others? Does it add value that nobody else can offer?

Oracle iAS is the upgrade path to OAS. This is also upgrade path for all other Oracle Middle tier products like Oracle Forms server,Reports Server.

Deploying a war file in Oracle Apps's application server

Hi all, i have a war file which i want to deploy inside oracle apps's application server, i just want to know the location to put my war file in so that the application server will auto deploy it.And also provide port and url(Application server) where i can access that web app.

There are a lot of dependencies involved. app severes before 10g are not generic j2ee server. what kind of files are you putting in ur war file?

What service the repository is for?
For example, if you use JMS service, you could create database, or file based repository. Or are you talking about the repository for deployment?

Oracle 9i R1 application server With Windows 2003 server

I am Getting error (Web Forms can install only Windows NT/2000) When installing Oracle 9i R1 application server in Windows 2003 SP1.
is any specific setting or workarounds available to install in Windows 2003 Server?.

setup.exe -ignore sysprereqs this may work because it will detect that you dont have the appropiated OS, but it will ignore under your responsability and keep installing.
Also you may try to modify the oraparam.ini in the install folder, and add some lines for the Windows version that you have, but this is more difficult, because you should use the exact name of the Version in order to pass this check.

Can a single Application Server run 2 websites.

Do you mean two sites with different domain names (like www.somesite1.com and www.othersite2.org) ? Then I'm nor sure, all I could think of is to configure them to run on different ports and forward the domain names to the corresponding ports.
Or do you mean two web-applications ? In this case the answer is yes, of course, the URLs would be something like www.yourdomain.net/webapp1 and www.yourdomain.net/webapp2.

Currently we are using 10.1.2 with OC4J & Oracle Report 10g services.for running J2EE enterprise application in a stand alone environment. now we need to migrate this J2EE based enterprise application to 10g Release 3 or Higher version in a Clustered environment. Please suggest us, can I use 11g application server with clustered environment for OC4J & Report services.

Oracle Wallet on Application Server

My requirement is to get Oracle Wallet connections (eg /@<wallet_name>) working on an Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.2.0.2 in these four ways:
1. SQLPLUS eg sqlplus /@<wallet_name>
2. RWCLIENT
3. Oracle Forms
4. Reports URLS
5. Perl dbi
I can't get any of these to work, even SQLPLUS. I think it's down to the fact that the database is 10.1.0.5.
If I map a drive to a 10.2.0.4 installation and set ORACLE_HOME to that, SQLPLUS works okay. I imagine I might be able to get the Perl dbi working via that too.
However, I don't know how to get the reports working. I can probably live with FORMS not being in the wallet.

I had a reply from Oracle Support that the feature I'm trying to use was introduced in 10g Release 2 so this is why the application server doesn't have it.
Can I put a 10.2 client on application server without causing other problems to get around this?

Printing Character Mode Report On Oracle 9i AS - Application Server

Hi All,
Even though I have put this problem in Reports Forum,
I thought it fit to put forward this problem in Forms Forum
since Forms Forum is being accessed by a large number
of developers across the world.
Now the problem :
I have developed a report in Character mode that runs in
hundreds of pages. The output will be taken on High speed
Dot Matrix Printer since the client requirement is fast printing
& economical printing. That is the reason to develop this report
in Character mode & not Bitmap mode. This report works
fine in Client-Server environment.
However, the problem lies in the Web Server environment.
The same reports will be run on Oracle 9i AS. Since the
browser supports only HTML & PDF format, Character
mode reports faces a major problem.
Can anybody help me to resolve this problem ??
I would like to remind you again that the constraint is NOT
TO USE LASER PRINTERS.
