I didn't install the whole OS but just some packages that contain required rpms by Linux Redhad 4. I guess I accidently missed a package. In order to make sure that I have installed all necessary packages, I just re-installed the OS with care. Thanks for your advices.

  • Installation of oracle 10g on RedHat Linux EE 3

    Hi,
I am going to Install of oracle 10g on RedHat Linux EE 3, rigth now i am running oracle 9i on windows platform. I need following things:
-I want to export all my data from oracle 9i on windows. For this what is the best way should i transport my tablespace and install oracle 10g on linux and import them after creating db or should i simply export and import it from there.
-Is there any issues that i should look at before i transfer my database.
-We are a Industrial Laboratory and use scientific notation in our database. Would this import export can takecare of all the things or should i set some character set setting before import/export.
-Any thing else if you thing that i should take care.
    Thanks & Regard
    Rashid K.K

You cannot use transportable tablespace. Platform independent transportable tablespace run only on newer versions (10g). You have to create the tablespaces on you linux machine and than exp/imp (full=y).

  • Installation of Oracle 9i on Redhat Linux 7.3

    Hi.
I'm trying to install oracle 9i on Redhat Linux an facing some problems. To start with I had no problem in installing and creating the database, The listener.ora and tsnname.ora files created are similar to what i have on windows 2000( Since i was not able to make oracle working on linux, i tried installing on windows, so as to check and create database for temporary work.), But when i go to the console and type the commands: sqlplus /nolog it says bash: sqlplus:command not found.
    2. When i try clicking sqlplus executable file in the bin directory, i get a message that 'Could'nt find the program'.
    3. Where can i find the bash_profile file.
4.I'm able to run the database configuration assistant and create new databases without any error.
I would appreciate if some one can help me out. Also are there any special commands, for this is my first experience on linux.
    Thanks
    Pranav

If your shell is bash (which I guess it is) you need to set the environment variables either per user in a file called ~/.bash_profile (probably /home/oracle/.bash_profile) or globally by making a file /etc/profile.d/oracle.sh
you can list .files with ls -la
for now you can either type /opt/oracle/product/9.2.0/bin/sqlplus or type
    export PATH=${PATH}:/opt/oracle/product/9.2.0/bin
to add oracle to the path in your current session

  • Installing Oracle 8.1.7 on Linux RedHat 7.1

I am trying to install Oracle 8.1.7 on a Linux RedHat 7.1 machine with P4 1.7GHz. I 've tryed all the papers I found on the net for setting the user accounts and groups, linking with the old gcc libraries, etc. The problem is that after starting the OUI and when a window pops-up that spans the products list available, the whole operation finishes too quicly without reaching the 100%. At the next screen when I am trying to give the Instalation Unix group - should be oinstall/dba - I press next and get the message "Unable to setup Inventory. You may not have proper permisions". The machine has 256MBs Ram and 520MB Swap file on a 20GB HDD.Has anyone else seen this before? I couldn't find anything on the net. Can anyone help me? Thanks in advance...

    Hi,
In the user where you are trying to install Oracle, give the following command at the prompt.
    $ umask
The result should be "022". If it is not, connect as root and change the umask-settings of the user.
    $ umask 022 <user-name>
and connect as the user, where you are trying to install and run the Installer.
    Hope this will work,
    Murali.

    Thanks in Advance
SAJEEV GEORGEYou need to have the following packages installed already before starting Oracle installation
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15669/pre_install.htm#sthref80
    binutils-2.15.92.0.2-10.EL4
    compat-db-4.1.25-9
    control-center-2.8.0-12
    gcc-3.4.3-9.EL4
    gcc-c++-3.4.3-9.EL4
    glibc-2.3.4-2
    glibc-common-2.3.4-2
    gnome-libs-1.4.1.2.90-44.1
    libstdc++-3.4.3-9.EL4
    libstdc++-devel-3.4.3-9.EL4
    make-3.80-5
    pdksh-5.2.14-30
    sysstat-5.0.5-1
    xscreensaver-4.18-5.rhel4.2
And from the following link, you can get the same list:
http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle10g.shtml (Go to Checking Software Packages (RPMs))
And from my installation guide you can easily install Oracle on Linux by following step by step instruction

  • Unable to install Oracle 9.0.1 on Linux RedHat

    Hi,
I am unable to install Oracle 9.0.1 on Linux RedHat, tried many times. While installing i get following errors-
"Error in invoking target install of makefile
    /usr/oracle/9.0.1/plsql/lib/ins-plsql.mk"
"error in invoking target ioracle of makefile
    /usr/oracle/9.0.1/rdbms/lib/ins-rdbms.mk"
"Error loading native library : libnjni.so"
Installation halts while configuring Net Confugration Assistant....
    Any workaround ???
    Thanks in advance.

There are many versions of RedHat. Your post indicates you are using one of them, but your post really does not give a hint as to which one. Funny thing is - different versions have different install requirements.
I really don't understand why operating system version is such a big secret. Especially since it is logically so critical to installation issue. Even when installing on Windows, the first questions is 'which Windows'.
You have, of course, followed the suggestions at http://www.puschitz.com and noted the errors and workarounds, have you not.
Especially about things like packages and versions.

  • Unable to Install Oracle 9i on redhat linux 9

    Hi everybody,
I had been trying to install Oracle 9i on redhat linux 9 since last month and I am not able to succeed in installing the same. In fact I do not get to see even the OUI screen . I give below the steps I followed.
    1) Setting of env varibles pertinent to oracle., say ORACLE_HOME,NLS_LANG etc.
    2) PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/jdk1.3.1/bin:.
    3) export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1
I have a set of 3 CD's for installation. As soon as I load the first CD. the runInstaller would run for sometime and stop, while I do the installation in the graphic mode.
When I try to install the same in the command line mode, I get to see something like the one below
Initializing java jre from /tmp/OraInstall0/... please wait.. and then it would come back to the command prompt.
I then invoke ps -ef | grep -i oracle to check if some process is running and I do get to see something. But ultimately nothing happens.
    Please help me with this.

At Oracle Site we have a very good manual for 9i installation. Follow the manual step-by-step.
Your problem seems as a java or permissions issue.
    good luck
    Eduardo

  • Oracle Forms (Support & Certification) on Linux RedHat AS 4.0 (Intel 32bit)

    Hello,
Does anybody know for sure if Oracle is certifying Forms (part of Application Server 10.1.2.2) on Linux RedHat AS 4.0 (Intel 32 bit). We are trying to move from v3.0 to v.4.0, however without Oracle support, that might not happen.
Any help or guidance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Kunal Bansal

I did search in Metalink indeed. This document is really the latest certification they have. But funny thing is that the rda.sh script Oracle released checks for RH4 in addition to RH3. I have my test iAS server (10.1.2.0.2) and iDS (same version) installed on RH 3 (just in case) but I have installed iAS server in 2 different places (for deployment) on RH 4 - both went just fine. I know there is a document on Metalink, explaining how to install on RH 4 - basically, they released a small patch set for those who wants to install on RH 4. I did apply that patchset (it is for OUI not for the forms). My quick solution to implement this patchset was to create a staging directory (disk1, ...) and then replace couple of files located under disk1 staging directory with the files that comes with the patchset (unzipped into a separate place), then start the installation of 10.1.2.0.2 on RH 4. Everything then went just perfect on RH 4. No problems reported so far (2 separate installations on 2 separate sites on RH 4). I don't know if this helps but just wanted to provide some feedback.

  • Oracle 11g v11.1.0.7.0 for Linux RedHat?

    Hello,
can anybody tell me if there is a Oracle 11g v11.1.0.7.0 available for Linux RedHat, maybe a Pre-Version for Oracle-Customers/Partners?
A problem was reported to us pertaining to some privilege problems under Oracle 11g v11.1.0.7.0 / Linux, but i cannot find any version on:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/index.html
There is only a v11.1.0.7.0 for Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and the last version for Linux is there v11.1.0.6.0.
    Thanks in advance.

The case with Windows 2008 exists because there was no way to install 11.1.0.6 on that platform, so the process of 'install and patch' is not possible. Therefore they needed to 'fix' the initial install for that specific plaftform and it is their policy to only release to the 'current patch set' (which was 11.1.0.7 at the time).
With Linux, you can 'make it work' with newer versions (eg: RH 5u4) by providing the appropriate compat libraries, therefore the original 'install and patch' process is still valid.
Making Linux 11.1.0.7 available would nullify their Support mechanisms.
