Oracle 9i ORA-12500 WIndows XP Pro
One embarrased Oracle DBA. I've successfully installed Oracle on so many windows platforms that I've lost track.
The specs:
Dell Inspiron 5100
Windows XP Professional 2002 SP 1
2.66 GHz P4 CPU
512 MB RAM
1 GB Pagefile (swap)
Macafee Virus Protection (disabled)
Macaffee Firewall (disabled)
XP Firewall disabled in communication settings
Oracle 9i Release 2 EE base release
Processes = 150
Sessions = 170
shared_pool_size = 50 MB (tried setting as high as 150 MB)
I've tried every trick in the book
1. Clean de-install, reinstall
2. listener start with and without listener.ora
3. Enabling and disabling MTS (shared server)
4. LAN connection enabled (w/ appropriate parameters)
5. Standalone mode (no networking) w/ appropriate parameters
5. Increasing init.ora parms for memory, processes and sessions to ridiculous levels
6. Different listener ports other than 1521
7. deleting and recreating listener service
8. deleting and recreating Oracle service (oradim)
9. setting USE_SHARED_SOCKET in Oracle registry (in case the firewall was interfering with listener ports)
10. setting TNS_ADMIN (not relevant since there is only one Oracle Home
11. made sure ORACLE_SID was set in Oracle registry
12. setting ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_HOME at the command line and restarting listener/database in command window
13. Turning on listner and client tracing to admin level
14. ad infinitem
Tracing didn't reveal anything meaningful. I was able to briefly get a connection working (connecting on the laptop via SQL*NET to the local database) using MTS for about 3 minutes then it started malfunctioning again.

Oracle 8.06 and Windows XP Pro
Is there possibility to install Oracle Client 8.06 in Windows XP Professional?
Oracle 8.1.7 client is the first version supported on XP Pro. And, all components are not supported. Some require patches. 9.0.1 is the first version completely supported on XP.

Problem with oracle 8i installation on windows 2000 pro
Hi all
i'm installing oracle 8i enterprize edition on windows 2000 professional.
At the end of the installation,in the configuration tools step when it says that
the following tools will be automatically started for you etc...
the oracle database configuration assistant keep failing and i get the following message in the text file dbSilentCreate
< 8I\starterdb is an invalid command line argument. >
what should i do? anyone familiar with this problem ?
ConstancioThis should be a workaround for your problem. Let me know if it works or not.
1. Create a temporary directory on your server.
2. Copy the contents of the Oracle RDBMS Server CD to the temporary directory created in step 1.
3. Search the directory structure created in step 1 for the existence of the filename symcjit.dll.
4. Rename each copy of the symcjit.dll to symcjit.old.
5. Run the setup.exe from the \install\win32 directory and install Oracle 8.1.x. -

Cannot run setup.exe Ora 9i on Windows XP pro
Hi,
I have a problem installing Oracle .
I have windows XP Pro on my machine.
I downloaded ora 9i from technet site to my hard drive.
I have unzipped to
c:/disk1
c:/disk2
c:/disk3
Try to double click on setup.exe, I see the hour glass for a second,but nothing happens.
I searched this site for similar problem but nothing helped me to solve my problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.Problem solved!!
I was able to run it from
disk1/install/win32/setup.exe
Thanks to one of the thread in this forum.

Hello everyone!
I hope you are doing well all. In my case I have some troubles by installing Oracle XE 11g on my PC. My OS is Windows 7 Pro x64.
1. I activated the Administrator mode on my PC (net user Administrator /active:yes)
2. Started the setup as Administrator. The setup process was finished successfully with no errors showed.
3. Started the Database, OracleServiceXE, OracleXETNListener and other services.
4. Tried to connect using sqlplus-> connect system ->password, what in result gave me ORA-01034 Oracle not available and ORA-27101 Shared memory realm does not exist errors.
5. Then I recognized that my C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\oradata\XE folder is empty when it should be usually full with 6 DBF file.
6. I opened the cloneDBCreation.log and it contains these data:

ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error

I spent around 2 days to come to this reason and now I do not know what to do next.
My actions to resolve this problem:
1. Checked if my user has administrative rights and belongs to ora_dba. It does!
2. Turned Microsoft UAC off.
3. Set the system and local variables of ORACLE_BASE, ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, PATH, TNS-ADMIN to the appropriate values in Enivornment Variables:
- ORACLE_BASE -> C:\oraclexe
- ORACLE_HOME -> %ORACLE_BASE%\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server
- ORACLE_SID -> XE
- Added to PATH -> C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\bin;
- TNS_ADMIN -> %ORACLE_HOME%\network\admin
4. Removed Oracle XE 11g and reinstalled to another drive. No sense!
Some more errors:
1. C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\config\log\XE.bat.log
Instance created.
DIM-00019: create service error
O/S-Error: (OS 1387) Ein Mitglied konnte in der lokalen Gruppe nicht hinzugefugt oder entfernt werden, da das Mitglied nicht vorhanden ist.
It means -> O/S-Error: (OS 1387) Unable to add or remove a member from the local group because this member does not exist.
I understand that I need to logon as batch job. I added me to this policy in User Rights Assignments, but still I get these "DIM-00019: create service error" and "O/S-Error: (OS 1387)". And I guess just therefore my database is not starting well.
2. 127.0.0.1:8080/apex/f?p=4950 is not starting in browser. It is probably because the database is not running appropriately. For this issue have already seen one topic in Google that the HTTP Properties inside the Listener Status must be set to 8080 to make this link work. But in my case I do not see this line in my Listener Status:
Some other information relevant to the issue:

Guys please help me to solve this issue, 'cause I've almost got frustrated to find out the solution of this problem. Thank you beforehand!!
Kind regards,
ildarI have tried to install both of them lots of times but in each case I receive the same in my XE.bat file:

DIM-00019: create service error
O/S-Error: (OS 1387) Unable to add or remove a member from the local group because this member does not exist.
Have checked OS 1387 error at Microsoft Support and as possible cause of the problem they give as follows:
This issue can occur if the environment has a disjointed namespace (i.e. the domain has different NetBIOS and DNS names). For example, assume that the domain has a NetBIOS name of "domain.com" and a DNS name of "domain-old.com." When users are added in the Windows UI, they are displayed in the format of domain\ComputerName. However, you notice in the error log that there was an attempt to add a computer account in the format of domain-old\ComputerName. (System Center 2012 R2 Data Protection Manager install fails and generates ID: 4323: "A member could not be added")
Tried to find out my DNS name, but it is impossible because I don't have any domain installed and my machine is not connected to it. Some other blog (Install Oracle 11gR2 on Windows) advices to work with adding my computer account to some non-real windows domain (just for the purpose of resolving the network) as well and reinstall the database then. If I undestand it right I need minimum 2 machines for this. But I own just one, where the server is based and thought that is enough to run the database... no idea .. -
Unable to install Oracle 8.1.6 in Windows 2000 Pro SP4
I try install Oracle 8.1.6 in my Pentium 3 machine run on Windows 2000 Pro with Service Pack 4. In the process of initializing the database I get the error "ORA-12638: Credential retrieval failed." Please help. thank you
connect with administrator user of operting system
then start installation of oracle

Oracle XE Western version not working on Windows XP pro
I have noticed that production version of the Oracle XE Western version does not work properly. The beta version created the database properly, the production version does not. I tried to install it on a Windows XP Pro version.

OSD-04002: unable to open file
O/S-Error: (OS 2) The system cannot find the file specified.
ORA-205 signalled during: alter database mount
Thanks,
LucianI think the relevant error from the log file is as follows
ORA-01565: error in identifying file 'C:\oracle\xeprod\oradata\XE\system.dbf'
ORA-27041: unable to open file
OSD-04002: unable to open file
O/S-Error: (OS 2) The system cannot find the file specified.
ORA-1503 signalled during: Create controlfile reuse set database "XE
There are a couple of things to consider here
Why is this install going into c:\oracle\xeprod ? If should be going into C:\oraclexe. Did you do something to change the default install infrastructure ?
Secondly - sometimes we see this unable to open file error message if some other process is reading the file at the same time as the installer is trying to install it. Anti virus software and Google desktop have been culprits to date. -
We are looking at installing Oracle 9i (Release 2) on a desktop here for testing purposes. We used to have Oracle installed on a 2000 Pro machine but we had a lot of problems with it and were informed that it was known that Windows 2000 Pro and Oracle didnt get along.
I am trying to find out if there is similar problems with Oracle 9i and Windows XP Pro. Are there any issues that I should know of?
Thanks in advance.
TrevorTrevor,
I doubt there are any problems with 9i on XP that can't be handled. I used it for some time on that same OS without problems though I didn't do a great amount of work with it. Check the release notes they should say something about that.

Cannot start Oracle 8.1.5 on Windows XP Pro
Hi all,
I am facing a hell lot of problem in starting an Oracle 815 ( Enterprise edition ) database installed on WindowsXP Pro.
First problem is that , I am a Unix person and very less familier with Windows servers .
I have successfully ( appearently ) installed Oracle 8.1.5 Enterprise edition on my Laptop with Windows XP Pro.
In the service manager I can see the created services , like for the database , listener etc.
I have set all of them to be started manually .
When I try to start the database service ( instance ) , a progress bar appears as the service is being started .
As the progress bar progresses , its progress becomes slower and slower , at the end it stops saying ,
Could not start the OracleService<sid of db> service on Local Computer
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
In the service manager the status of the service becomes 'starting' and thats it . It do not allow to start or stop that service after that .
Is there any log or trace I can see for this ?
If I start the listener service , it starts immediatly .
Please advice .Hi ,
I have just installed the latest OLEDB (OraWin9204) And ODBC (ora9205) Providers on my laptop using Oracle9i Personal Edition on Windows XP Prof. Now im getting this same error message. (service did not start in a timely fasion)
If i try and run the oracle service from the command line i get more of a clue.
\oraHome\bin\oracle.exe <service name>
the following error message appears :
The procedure entry point qmxdCvtXtobToSax could not be located in the dynamic link library orageneric9.dll
this is located in the \oraHome\bin directory
i have unpacked all of the jar files and had a look through them and i definatley have the latest orageneric9.dll that i can find which is :
Date = 08/08/2003 : 12:39
size = 2,638,096
does anyone have a newer version of this file ? -
Oracle 8.1.5 on Windows XP Pro
Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle 8.1.5 on windows XP pro, when installing i get the message saying "Invalid staging area". It will get a bit further if i run setup.exe in compatibility mode for Windows98, but seems to halt installation when trying to install a file called comUS.msd (- not sure if i have extension correct) it as at 76% of installation.
Does anyone know how to get around this problem?
Thanks
Nick.
PS the machine runs an AMD Athlon 1.7GHz processor tooYou may want to search the database forums or All forums categories first to see if this question is already answered. I see at least 6 threads in the database category level and 21 threads when I searched all categories for "invalid staging area." If you still do not the find the answer, please repost your question in the database forum.

Hi,
I was installing oracle 9i in windows XP Pro and it hung in half of the installation and none of the products were fully installed , so i can uninstaller to unistall to product. Now I am not able to remove the folder and it says some of the application is using the oci.dll .. How can i reinstall the products.
Thanks in Advance. Any help is appreciated.Did you ever work out how to sort this out - I have the same problem!
The only thing I can think of doing is unregistering all the DLL's, and clearing any Oracle installed files and registry entries, but it's not a great solution.

Ummm .... client license?
All license questions should be addressed to Oracle. I believe what you'll find is that the license for client installation is free. What you pay to license and support is the rdbms (server) software.
But all licensing questions should be addressed directly to Oracle. A license agreement is a legal issue, and this forum will have no standing in court. -
