  • OWB on Oracle 10G Release 2

    Dear all,
I planned to use an Oracle 10G Release 2 database for a new OWB project. Research on the web just told me that this new version of the database does not support OWB, because of a check for DBA privileges.
The website advises to either use an earlier version of the database (10g R1) or wait for the release of the 10.1.0.4 patch for OWB.
Is this patch available at this moment? If so, can anyone tell me where I can download it? If not, does anyone know when this patch will be released?
    Thanks in advance
    Paul Versluis

    Hi,
    I have installed 10.1.0.4 OWB on Suse 9.3 and Suse 10 x86.
I sent correction notes to Oracle Documentation team as there were a few errors for the Linux Install.
More importantly i found in 10.1.0.4 one of the key install shell scripts will never work as the coders forgot to export a JAVAPATH variable meaning the script could never find the JRE
Good to see ORACLE test the installation of their releases
When i get back from Bew Year holiday i will send you my notes if you like
    regards

    Thanks Srini,
After checking the link, I was able to install it but there were some error messages.
I have another problem log in the SQL PLUS. When I open the SQL PLUS window, it asked for Username and after I typed "sys" or "system" and hit Enter; it was prompted for password, however, it did not let me type in any word; and after I hit Enter again, the error message " ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error" appeared
Any hints would be apprecieted, thanks.
SamIt wasn't preventing you from typing a password, it just wasn't echoing your keystrokes back to the screen. This is a security security feature common to most software, not just oracle. Either when asking for a password, either echo back a 'masking' character like '*' or don't echo anything. It's so common, I'm surprised you seem to have never seen it before.
So after entering your password ... the 12560 probably comes from
1- the fact you didn't have the environment variable ORACLE_SID set, so sqlplus didn' know the name of the instance/process you wanted to connect to, or
2 - the windows service for the database was not started.
Those two possibilities account for 99.99999 pct of ora-12560 on Windows installations.

  • Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control Release 10.2.0.3.0

Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control Release 10.2.0.3.0 is one hour behiend on AIX 5.3.
I have installed the new timezone version 4 already by oracle DST path database is good OEM main page is showing one hour behiend.
I have done every possible effort last thing may be i have to update java home i have 1.4 IBM java on the server.
Please help me in this. Thanks.

See the Metalink Note *Impact Document for Daylight Saving Time Shift for Enterprise Manager Grid Control [ID 417939.1]* Appendix B - FAQ - point 18
What is the impact of not patching the JDK on the OMS for 10g Grid Control?
If you do not patch the JDK on the OMS page refreshed times and possibly other times displayed in the console will be incorrect (they will be off by 1 hour) during an affected period.
Oracle strongly recommends that you do patch the OMS JDK but we are not aware of any data corruption in the repository nor of any impact on critical EM functionalities (such as severities, notifications and jobs) when the JDK is not patched.

  • Need to have more info about the latest patch on Oracle 10g Release 2

Please this is the follwing answer that was given to explain the purpose of patching the latest release of Oracle 10g release 2.
We are applying the patch to the 32bit environment to resolve memory errors.
This patch should be applied to the 64bit environments too as to maintain consistency in our database versions
Personaly I don't believe the response is accurate to patch the database.
Does someone can tell me where to find more information about the latest path of Oracle 10g release 2?
    Thanks a lot

You can find more information about a patchset by going over the readme document associated with the patch. As such, it is not exactly clear what kind of information you are looking for.
    Login into Metalink=>Patches&Updates=>Simple Search=>
    Product or Family=> RDBMS
    Select your OS
if will your a link to the readme file...
    Hope this helps

  • Oracle Critical Patch Update July 2009 for Oracle BEA Releases

    Hi All,
Researching in metalink about CPU's for WLS 9.1 I found Oracle Support Note #835668.1. Table 9 of this document
lists minimum product requirements for WebLogic server.
According to this table WLS 9.1 should have a minimum version of 9.2MP3.
I am confident that WLS 9.1 and WLS 9.2 are completely different WLS versions and there is no upgrade path from WLS 9.1 to WLS 9.2.
Is this table misprinted or is it required to replace all WLS 9.1 installations with WLS 9.2 installations?
What is this table trying to indicate?
    Please assist.
    It would be very helpful.
    Thanks.

Oracle Critical Patch Update fix a list of bugs , oracle will release CPU in every three months interval.
you need to click the link which oracle has sent.
then choose your database version===then select the patch number===then on metalink download the patch
with patch there is read me file which tell you how to apply the patch on the database.
    Thanks

  • How to patch de Oracle 8.1.7 database without invalidating Portal?

    Hi
I have an existing Oracle 8.1.7 database with Portal 3.0.8. I installed the upgrade script to take it to 3.0.9 but there is a requirement to
install patch 2 of Oracle 8.1.7. But everytime a patch de database the objects from the portal schema gets invalidated. I try to
reconstruct the objects but I still get the same invalidated objects. Can somebody tell me the steps that I have to take to succesfully
    install the patch?

Unless you have an extended support contract with Oracle for version 8.1.7, there is no way that you can get the binaries for an out-of-support product.
That said, why do you want to use an old version? That too, on an operating system which has been released a decade after Oracle 8.1.7 release?

  • Oracle 10g release 2 patch set 3

Oracle 10g release 2 patch set 3 is for 10.2.0.4. Can this patch be applied to Oracle enterprise 10.2.0.3? Thanks.

Oracle 10g release 2 patch set 3 is for 10.2.0.4. Can
this patch be applied to Oracle enterprise 10.2.0.3?
Thanks.Always read the README to verify.
In general a patchset can be applied to the base and any lower patchset.
So 10.2.0.4 should, unless warned otherwise for your specific configuration, be applicable to any of 10.2.0.1, 10.2.0.2 and 10.2.0.3

  • Stability of a database created on Oracle 10g Release 10.1.0.3

    Hello Friends,
I would like to confirm if Oracle 10g Release 10.1.0.3 is a suitable platform to create Database.
I have heard from a couple of DBAs that it is not a stable release to be creating and administering a Prod d/b and they recommend highly to migrate to 10.1.0.4.
    I have very recently configured a 10g d/b on 10.1.0.3 on AIX 5.2 ML 6 platform.
I would like to know if anyone have administering D/bs n 101.0.3 have hit on bugs & whether its worth doing the migration to 10.1.0.4.
    Thanking you all in Advance
    Cheers...RCube

The problem is, though, that the stability of the product is directly tied to unique aspects of your environment and unique aspects of your applications. If you are a relatively vanilla shop, doing relatively vanilla things, with relatively vanilla hardware, any version of Oracle is going to be stable. Any instabilities ought to show up during development and testing, in which case you can log an appropriate TAR and/or upgrade to a more recent patchset.
Most of the people that encounter problems in any release are doing something unusual. They may be pushing some sort of limit, they may have some esoteric hardware or software setup, they may have a particular application that wants things "just so".
There is a strong reporting bias towar folks reporting problems with any release. No one posts to a newsgroup to say "Hey, my 10g database is doing great today". The people that are most vocal are those that have encountered a problem. The folks that had problems with earlier releases have, for the most part, worked around them or upgraded-- the folks that are still running 7.3.4 are generally very happy with their database, it's been running for years without a problem. Was 7.3.4 more stable than 9.2, 10.1, 8.1.7, etc? Of course not.
I guess my point here is that no one can tell you with any confience that any version of Oracle is stable enough for your particular situation. Were I a betting man, I'd bet that it was. The only way to know for sure, though, is to test.

  • Oracle Database patching

    Hi plz help me.
i want to learn oracle database patching from the people like u but before that i tried much hard to find the documentation of patching at oracle documentation center. now after searching it lot i m tired so plz can any one tell me the exact documentation by which i can learn patching for applications. plz help me.
    nikhil

The patch(set) documentation is included in the patch zip file. The best way to learn about patching database should be to build a test db, then try to patch/upgrade it.

    Hi Rafael
Did you change your shm values in the kernel ? Please check those values in 2.6 Configuring Kernel Parameters
    64 bits: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15667/pre_install.htm#i1011296
    32 bits: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/install.102/b15660/pre_install.htm#sthref264
Note that you have to increase : semmni, semmns, shmmni should be multiplied by # of instances, SHMMAX should be set to avail memory
Can you please give us your values from your server please?
    Your physical memory :
    grep MemTotal /proc/meminfo
    And also the result of
    ipcs -l
which release of Linux are working with 32 bits or 64 bits ?
