Oracle 9i SLES10 x86_64

Hello all,
I`m installing 4.6c system with oracle 9i on SLES 10 x86_64. During oracle isntallation this error occured:
it hangs at 18% while copying naeet.o
i found some hints about this issue but all is related to SLES 9
java version is 1.4.2, gcc version 4
recommended is java 1.3 but can not fiund it as it is no longer supperted

Oracle has its own JDK with OUI, you can install 1.3 but Oracle will not use it.
You have to set
LD_ASSUME_KERNEL
to
2.4.1
As far as I know, Fedora 8 has disable that function in GLIBC so you´re pretty lost...

  • Problems with OPMN from Companion CD (Oracle 10g R2 x86_64 RHEL4)

    I have installed Oracle 10g DB R2 64bit on RHEL4 x86_64 (AMD64) and HTTP-Server from Companion CD
    All works.
But after running opmn appears problems:
    1. The system message to syslog: "ip_conntrack: table full, dropping packet"
    2. 'netstat -a' displays me thousands TCP-session on localhost to port 6100 in TIME_WAIT state
And network services on my host more died than alive...
If I increase ip_conntrack kernel parameter, then network state alive. But the problem with TCP-sessions is not resolved.
    Any ideas?
Thanks, and sory for my english :-)
P.S. I have RHEL4 without update 1, but with new kernel and patched binutils. Update of RHEL can resolve this problem?

    Thank you!
The problem described in Metalink Doc-ID Note : 284602.1 is my case!
But this document applies to Oracle Net Services - Version: 10.1.0.2 to 10.1.0.3.
I have Version 10.2.0.1.0 and the problem apears again (with some symptoms are differ).

try using a download assistant like GetRight (www.getright.com) for downloading. it allows fast error free download. after that use nero/easy cd to burn the image and be sure to burn it at 8x speed and then dont forget to verify it.

  • Oracle 11gR2 certification for Oracle Linux 6

    Hello,
According to Oracle documentation, database certification and support for Oracle 11gR2 under Oracle Linux starts with 11.2.0.3.
I was wondering if this might have anything to do with the i386 software prerequisites. Speaking of Oracle 11gR2 x86_64, the need for i386 libraries was removed with 11gR2 11.2.0.2. Or in other words, one can go straight to 11.2.0.2 without the need to install any 32-bit libraries.
Under Oracle Linux 5 x86_64, the "oracle-validated" package triggers the installation of several i386 packages. Under Oracle Linux 6 x86_64, the oracle-rdbms-server-11gr2-preinstall package uses x86_64 only. Under Oracle Linux 6, i386 changed to i686.
For what it's worth, I have installed Oracle 11gR2 database 11.2.0.1 under Oracle Linux 6.1 to 6.3, both x86_64, simply by using the oracle-rdbms-server-11gr2-preinstall package, and so far have not noticed any problems. Is there some information available, why 11.2.0.1 (x86_64) should not be used or is not certified for Oracle Linux 6 (x86_64)?
    Thanks.

I was afraid of that. Since the question is Oracle Linux 6 specific, I thought I'd try my luck here, thinking that if I get an answer, then probably here. Maybe it was not very realistic to get an answer anyway.
For what it's worth. Using "oracle-validated" under Oracle Linux 5, and "oracle-rdbms-server-11gR2-preinstall" under Oracle Linux 6, I was able to install Oracle 11gR2 11.2.0.1 just fine, both platforms x86_64 and 32-bit. I have not found any operational issues yet and it seems to run perfectly well.
The only trouble I had was with Grid Infrastructure 11.2.0.1, and here 11.2.0.3 is indeed required for it to install. I made a custom patch, just a few lines and after that 11.2.0.1, both x86_64 and 32-bit installed just fine and is fully operational.
I'm though I could post the patch. I guess it might make those people happy who do not have access to Oracle support and download 11.2.0.3. The patch will allow them to use the 11gR2 OTN version and install it under Oracle Linux 6. It won't be certified, but it is good enough for the purpose of education.
    I'm closing the thread.

The UEK that ships with 6.3 is based on a Linux 3.0.16 kernel so it should have much better hardware support than the original Red Hat kernel. Though, if you have ULN access, you should open an SR for this.

  • 8i, W2k and SP1 - Oracle won't run

I have a Compaq ML370 server running Windows 2000 server. I run 8i EE, release 2 (8.1.6). If I install W2K SP1, then the Oracle service won't start. It sits on 'starting'. The 'Listener' service and the 'Web Assistant' services both start. If I remove SP1, it all works correctly.
With SP1, I can't log on to the Oracle instance through DBA Studio either. Without SP1, not a problem.
I need to put SP1 on so I can update some security setting for W2K.
I tried W2K SP2 and the same thing happened.

Eureka! The problem was the oracle build, which apparently has been fixed in a newly released Oracle build for x86_64. I guess the earlier x86 build didn't
have something that was needed for this new system. The new build works great.

  • Advantage for Linux64-bit Versus Solaris-x86_64 OS in RAC

    Hi,
Could someone has any comparison document btw Linux-64 bit (RHEL OR Oracle) and Solaris x86_64 operating system for RAC environment?
I am looking for advantages, disadvantages, performance issues, installation issues, reliability issues, and oracle road map etc.,
    Really appreciate your help!!!!!
    thanks
    rk

I'd think that comparison is a bit biased though having used both Solaris (x86, x64 and SPARC) and Linux, I'd give the edge to Solaris SPARC over its other incarnations and Linux in any case.
The reason for using Solaris x86/x64 (for the company I worked for at the time at least) is, as usual, hardware pricing. The x86 hardware is far cheaper than SPARC hardware, but my management did not trust/like Linux hence we used Solaris x86/x64 for the OS. The team lead was a Solaris guy all his life and had previous issues with Linux so I couldn't blame him, as well as, the shop was already Sun so we already had their support and the official Linux support was spotting at the time.
I don't like Solaris unless it is SPARC though, the other incarnations for me have issues and the Oracle support is lacking. The Oracle releases are WELL behind any other OS release, most likely because Solx64/86 does not have a large enough user base and hence requests.

[Feb 18, 2012 8:39:08 AM]    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------There were errors with the file verification after the copy , for some reason. I don't know why it would have coughed on the two files oraagent.bin and oracleacfs.ko, but Oracle Support and google seaches didn't come up with anything. I plan to manually try an opatch apply instead of the oaptch auto, but while I do so, does anybody have clues for correctly applying this PSU?

To update this thread, I ended up speaking to Oracle Support on this. It turned out that one of the prerequisites in the README was the culprit:
2.1.4 Unzipping the PatchThe patch application requires explicit user actions to run 'opatch auto' command on each node of Oracle clusterware. So, it is recommended that you download and unzip the patch in a shared location to be able to access it from any node in the cluster and then as the Grid home owner execute the unzip command. To prevent installation failures, this location should be an empty directory.
    Note:
Do not unzip the patch in the top level /tmp directory.
The unzipped patch location should have read permission for ORA_INSTALL group in order to patch Oracle homes owned by different owners. The ORA_INSTALL group is the primary group of the user who owns the GI home or the group owner of the Oracle central inventory.>
In my example, I had unzipped to /tmp. However, the resulting error message stack didn't really point that out.
When I double-checked the README and tried again from /home/oracle/patches/p13348650 instead, it worked. It doesn't leave me with a confident feeling, more just relief. On a related note (and the entire reason for me patching to 11.2.0.3.1), ACFS filesystems ARE supported now under Oracle 5 update 7 with the 2.6.32-200.13.1.el5uek kernel (you had to really dig through the matrix in 1369107.1). Had this not worked, I would had to fail back to the non-UEK kernel to achieve ACFS.

  • PL/SQL cursor loop...error  INTO clause needed...but multiple rows

    Hi all,
I am running the below PL/SQL block but getting the below error. From what I know, the INTO clause can only be used when a single row will be returned. In this case, I know it returns multiple rows, so why is it asking to use the INTO clause?

  • Usage of R3ta during Database Export

    Hi everyone,
I have some questions about the usage of R3ta to split some tables during an export/import process.
    I'm doing a Unicode migration of a ECC 6.0 system running on Oracle 10g / Win2003 x86_64.
I have done the Table Split Preparation step via sapinst and it finished ok. This step created a subdirectory DATA in my export directory and created numerous .WHR files and a whr.txt file.
After that I started the export process once again via sapinst. I choosed to split the STR files, extracting the 250 largest tables with a package size of 1 GB. I checked the parameter split predefined tables and mentioned the file whr.txt created in the first step as the file containing the tables to be split.
But in the end, the tables in the files whr.txt are still exported sequentially (but are well split into 1GB pieces)
Did I forget something during the process ?
    I am using the latest R3ta, R3load, dboraslib.dll, R3szchk and R3ldctl.

    Hi Michael,
indeed, I did not tell about the number of R3load processes used. There were 6 of them in parallel.
The last table (and the one that takes most of the time to be exported) should have been handled in parallel but only 1 R3Load was active at the time (6 before)

First, you need to upgrade to the latest version of uln-yum-mirror to avoid these errors in future. The latest version has mitigation tools to remove RPMs that fail GPG checking.
In this instance, you need to manually delete the RPMs that pyCURL can't download. Once you delete all the RPMs, the next run of uln-yum-mirror will download them fresh and recreate the yum metadata locally.

  • Options to replicate between different platforms

    Hello,
I'm evaluating possibility to replicate between Oracle on HP-UX Itanium and Oracle on Linux x86_64.
On top of Oracle there is SAP.
I read Oracle articles for both Physical standby and Logical Standby and both don't support this configuration.
Also I know Libelle, but id doesn't neither support this.
What about other possibilities? Any one?
I read about Shareplex from Quest/Dell,
    here:
    http://documents.quest.com/QB31336
and it seems it is supported.
Though this KB doesn't seem very "appealing" as far as SAP is concerned:
    https://support.quest.com/SolutionDetail.aspx?id=SOL41095&pr=Shareplex%20for%20Oracle
Any info and/or suggestion is welcome.

    Hi Avi,
The guide is for OL6 (see excerpt from page 5)
"A compute node is a system running Oracle Linux using KVM, or Oracle VM Server Release 3.3. You can download
installation ISOs of the latest version of Oracle Linux 6, or Oracle VM Server Release 3.3, from the Oracle Software
    Delivery Cloud at:"
And although 1.0 release says OL6.5 and later I cannot find the OL7 pacakges on the public yum server. The only ones I can find are http://public-yum.oracle.com/public-yum-openstack-ol6.repo  which is clearly OL6. I tried them on OL7 and the install fails.

If you have an Oracle Openstack install running I'd love to hear how you did it and what you did to accomplish it.
Right now I'm running OL6.6 with a RDO icehouse packstack install and I'm running into problems mounting volumes.
Openstack will be awesome once I get it running
    Thank you for any assistance.
    Dave
