Upgrade oracle 9i to Oracle10g
Now we are using a oracle9i as Production server, Now we want to upgrade the
Oracle 9i into Oracle10g.
I have no idiea to Upgrade the Oracle9i into 10g , Kindly advise me how to install Oracle10g in Prodcution Server and how could i allocate the tablespace size for Longer run of database.Hi,
We have also migrated from 8i to 10g.
We did following steps:
1) list down all the users/schemas, tablespaces.
2) Create those on new boxes.
3) Give all the roles, grants eic on new box.
4) Take export of the current production at the time when least number of processing is going on.
5) Try ti import it on new box ASAP.
6) Enable all dbms jobs on new box.
7) Do parellel run for few days and monitor the system very closely.
Thes are the major steps which is suppose to do. Try to involve your DBA full time with you. Hope this will help you.

What are the risk involved in Database Migration from Oracle 7 to oracle10G
HI,
As a business requirement me are need to migrate our current production database (Oracle 7.3.4) to Oracle 10G R2.
I need to understand the Risk involved in doing so and corrective action required.
Your small input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
VijayAs a business requirement me are need to migrate our current production database (Oracle 7.3.4) to Oracle 10G R2.
There is no risk.
but you can't upgrade directly from 7 to 10g.
you need to upgrade first 7 to 9 then 9 to 10g ( i would recommend to go with 11g)
Or
If database size is small the best is EXPORT /IMPORT. easy fast safe.
http://tahiti.oracle.com ===check the upgrade guide for more details.
You need to test the completely upgrade process on TEST eviourment before doing anything in production.
becuase a lots of changes between two database version.
1. You may be face "Performance" issue after upgrade. so need to check properly.

Invoking oracle utilities in Oracle10g on Red Hat Linux
Hi,
I manage an oracle 10g database on Red Hat Linux Enterprise Server 3.
I have problems invoking oracle utilities like netca, dbca, dbua etc from the bin directory. Every time i type netca while in the bin directory, i get the following error:
bash: NETCA: command not found
however when i type ./netca while in the bin directory, this is what i get:
****ORACLE_HOME environment variable not set!
ORACLE_HOME should be set to the main
directory that contains Oracle products.
Set and export ORACLE_HOME, then re-run.
i then set the enviroment variable thus:
set ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.1.0/db_1 export ORACLE_HOME
Further attempts to invoke netca still gives the same errors listed above.
please help if u can.
olumideHi,
check the installation guide how to set the environment. $ORACLE_HOME/bin is not included in the PATH variable (therefore bash: NETCA: command not found), ORACLE_HOME (and I assume other environment variables) are not set.
Don't read instructions word-to-word ,
set ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.1.0/db_1 export ORACLE_HOME' is syntactically wrong, use
export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/10.1.0/db_1 .

Integrate OBIA with Bespoke ERP (Oracle Forms,Reports,Oracle10g)
Hi,
our platform is Oracle 10g Forms and Reports deployed on Oracle 10g App Server.
Our goal is to implement Oracle BI Dashboards on this environment.
Our Project Goal is to demonstrate management with our application financial dashboards.
To achieve this we have installed OBIEE, OBIA and DAC and Informatica. as per the config doc i configured all components.
We also have 2 queries
1. To give demonstration to our Management can we use Oracle R12.1.1 as application in DAC and run the ETL loads to view data in Presentation services. Is this the correct way ?
2. How can i Integrate my present ERP with OBIA ?
Now can you please suggest any other easy and appropriate methods to implement Oracle BI
that is suitable to our platform.

Best Practice on Post Steps after 11.2.0.2.4 ORACLE RAC installation
I finished RAC 11.2.0.2 installation and patched it to 11.2.0.2.4. The database is also created.
The nodes are Linux redhat and storages are on ASM.
Is there any good article or link regarding the best practice of post steps after installation?
Thanks in advance.Hi,
I also want to know what kind of monitoring scripts I can use to setup as cron jobs to monitor or detect any failure or problems?
To monitor Cluster (OS Level):
I suggest you use a powerful tool "CHM" that already comes with product Grid Infrastructure.
What do you do to configure? Nothing ... Just use.
Cluster Health Monitor (CHM) FAQ [ID 1328466.1]
See this example:
http://levipereira.wordpress.com/2011/07/19/monitoring-the-cluster-in-real-time-with-chm-cluster-health-monitor/
To monitor Database:
PERFORMANCE TUNING USING ADVISORS AND MANAGEABILITY FEATURES: AWR, ASH, and ADDM and Sql Tuning Advisor. [ID 276103.1]
The purpose of this article is to illustrate how to use the new 10g manageability features to diagnose
and resolve performance problems in the Oracle Database.
Oracle10g has powerful tools to help the DBA identify and resolve performance issues
without the hassle of analyzing complex statistical data and extensive reports.
Hope this help,

How can I manage environment variables like ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID for both oracle databases?
What I do now:
Depending on the DB I want to use I set up ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID accordingly, describe the path to the oracle home directory in the PATH env variable and start the appropriate oracle service from Services.
As you can imagine this is unthinkable.
(Besides, I noticed that in the Registry I have key for oracle home only for the 10g DB. I don't know why is this like that. But for Oracle 9i I have no keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-> SOFTWARE -> ORACLE.)
Could anyone suggest cleverer method to manage both databases in windows without the need manually to set variables each time when I switch?Perhaps one easy method was to setup 2 batch files, e.g.:
C:\WINDOWS> copy con 9.bat
@echo off
set ORACLE_SID=inst9
set ORACLE_BASE=path_to_base
set ORACLE_HOME=path_to_home
etc...
prompt [oracle 9i] $p$g
echo "Environment Oracle 9i"
Control-Z Return
Create a 10.bat with appropriate data too.
If you put the batch files in C:\windows they will be in your path and you can simply type "9" or "10" depending on which Oracle environment you need. -
License information for oracle and HTMLDB
Anybody knows which metalink document or where I can found information about getting license for Oracle Database 10g , oracle10gAS Forms&Report server and HTMLDB 2.0 to deploye on the web..?
Hello,
HTML DB v2.0 (Oracle Application Express, by its new name) does not need separate licensing, as it is part of the database license. For all the rest of the items in your post, you can get a "first impression" on the Oracle on-line store, but the best, I believe, is to contact a local Oracle sales person. They can give you the best information with current prices.

Configuring compiere with oracle10g
for any one who may be trying to connect to 10g from Compiere, I found this valuable tip after some struggle:
I have run Compiere251d with Oracle10g & Java 1.5 beta :-), and I am very nice.
You have to make the step:
1.- Copy the $ORACLE_HOME/jdbc/lib/ojdbc14.jar
to $COMPIERE_HOME/lib/oracle10g.jar
2.- Change into $COMPIERE_HOME/RUN_setup.sh in the -classpath oracle.jar for
oracle10g.jarHaving the same problem so if this works that would be great, but.. how do you do this?

How many Instances can I install on one machine?
Hi Folks,
Do you know how many oracle instances I can install on my Win OS machine.
I already have three different instances. Typically how many instances Oracle recommends to setup in one machine to ensure performance improvement?
I use Oracle 9 and oracle10g both. In fact, Oracle9 in Solaris and oracle10g on win.
Regards,
AmirIn general, it recommends one instance per server
in a production environment, for a variety of
reasons (maintainability, backup/recovery, easier to
tune, better use of resources). If you have 100 productives databases, it is very probable that you won't be able to have one server per database.
Again, it depends on your number of users, processors and ram... But if you 16G ram and 16 processors, you should well be able to able to have 20 databases with not too much activity.
The number of 20 here means truely nothing. I admit. But recommending one instance per server is not ok.
Many applications require to have a separate database. It is the double administration necessary, but it is better than the troubles generated when 2 software vendors are sharing the same db.
For development, I have some systems with over 50 instances running with 16g ram and 8 cpus. -

Internal server error when trying to submit report
Hi all,
I'm using Oracle Forms builder 10g. I'm trying to submit an oracle report via button in my form. The report is working fine in the DB and via the Oracle Report Builder 10g. But via the Application i receive Internal server error... We bounced the appache and the report starts to work but after logout and then login - the report throws Internal Server Error again...
Any ideas how is this possible? The functionality of the form is working properly - like creating new records and etc... but only the behavior of the report is not OK...
