Oracle 9iAS installation question-oci.dll error

Hi all
I have a question about 9iAS installation. Can we install 9iAS in NT??. I downloaded from the site, installation for NT. While installing I get error like "could not write oci.dll error"..I'm installing the portal and wireless type and I have my Oracle9i database installed on the same machine. Can anybody suggest how to rectify this error.
Thanks a lot

Are you trying to install in the same Oracle Home directory as the database? You should install in a different OH. Furthermore, 9iAS itself also installs in 2 OH's. You will end up with 3 OH's.
It is not a good idea to install the database and 9iAS on the same server, unless you have a really big one.

  • Loading oci.dll Error

Trying to connect to Oracle for the first time using Visual Studio.Net. I have created a App that has a connection to an Oracle database. That was easy. I then tried to populate a datareader and started receiving the error " Unable to load dll ("oci.dll"). I browsed for .dll and did not find it. My question is how to I get this .dll on a developement (WinXP) workstation and also on a production server running IIS 5.0 to connect to an oracle database? I am new but this is turning out to be a challenge. Thanks for the help in advance!!

    John,
If you have a proper installation of Oracle Server or Client, oci.dll should be in your %Oracle_Home%\bin directory. For example, c:\Oracle\ora92\bin.

  • OCI.DLL error

My application install Oracle OLEDB and instant Client 11g, with "ODAC 11.2 Release 5 (11.2.0.3.20) with Xcopy Deployment" the connection work well in hundred of installations, except :
On a single machine and only on it, with Win7 32 bit I have a particular problem, when i try to active an ADOconnection Object , an error appear :
"The procedure entry point lxgutf2ucs could not be located in the dynamic link library OCI.DLL"
    Any Idea ??
    thanks Mirko

I'd guess the wrong OCI.dll is being loaded.
Use Process Explorer from http://sysinternals.com to verify where it's being loaded from. You'll probably see it's not the one you expect.
Once you've verified exactly what OCI.dll is being loaded, you can see the entry points with Dependency Walker from http://dependencywalker.com
    Hope it helps

    Obviously it is not urgent.
If it was truly urgent, you would:
    1) use your support contract to ask Oracle Support and/or
    2) describe in detail what your internet searching has found, what efforts you have tried and what has failed, and/or
    3) provide operating system information (which Windows, which edition, which service pack) and client information (how many Oracle products are installed, which versions, which patches)

I did not have it set as this machine never had Oracle before and I am newbie to Oracle. I will set it a try again. I'll also define TNS_NAME as I just learned about this one too.

  • Oracle Bam Installation problems with IIS, Error code 1

Hello, When I try to install oracle bam I got like 40 errors when its executing some vbs scripts, I think that these scripts create the virtual directories and so on but I am not sure.
The error that I see in the event log in spanis is this:
I need to say that I am an administrator on this machinem so I dont know that the problem is.

    Thanks.
    Yes, I do have a P4.
I have looked through previous postings and have found the following suggestions, both of which I have tried:
    1. Copy the files from CD to disk, rename symcjit.dll and then run install.
    2. Oracle seem to suggest that the disk directories must be called Disk1 etc.
I have also tried removing the Java SDK I had installed, stopping Apache and stopping MySQL.
    Nothing has worked.
    Any more ideas (please....)?

  • 9iAS Installation Question

    Hi,
I have successfully installed 9iDB on a Linux server and am now
attemting to install 9iAS on a different Linux server (both Red
    Hat 7.1).
I am confused by the preinstallation section of the 9iAS
    Installation guide.
Part way through the documentation it starts to talk about
the 'origin database' without ever mentioning where this
database has sprung from. Is this a database I need to create on
my 9i database server? If so how do I create it?
The documentation seems to imply that the database must already
exist as it's telling me I need to edit the initSID.ora file.
There is also some implication that this 'origin database' needs
to be 8i. If it does, should I install 8i on the database server
    or on the AS server?
I'd really prefer to use the 9i database if possible. Not least
because I've got that on CD and would need to download 8i over
    ISDN!!
I'm sure I'll have other questions as I get further into this,
but answers to the above will keep me quiet for a while!
Many thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.
    Tom Steele.

The infrastructure install is available on the 9.0.2.0.1 CDs. Did you try and install 9.0.3 of 9iAS? 9.0.3 is only available for the midtier (application tier) install.

  • Oracle Universal Installer gives a fatal error

    Hello,
When I start the Oracle Universal Installer to install the Oracle Developer Suite (10.1.2.0.2) I get a Microsoft Fault Report, so the installation will abort.
I had removed first the Oracle installation via the same wizard and then clean up my registry.

Ok, I have found the problem: The installer can't write to c:\documents and settings\pieter\local settings\temp\...
The error is like this: "error in writing to c:\documents and settings\..."
Many users that install Oracle have this error (check google) but I can't find a solution :(
    Anyone?

  • Oracle 9Ias installation on Linux 9.0

    Hi,
I am not able to install Oracle 9IAS on Linux 9.0, either it gives linking error like ins_oemagent.mk file also, while creating the database end-of-communication channel error.

Thanks a lot for looking in to this.
I am starting the reports server using the rwserver.sh file which calls the reports.sh before starting the server. Reports.sh sets the LD_LIBRARY_PATH, hence I donot think that is the issue.
As I said earlier, the rwEng engine is the culprit. It does not start up.
In the server trace, I get the state of the rwEng-0 to be Initial and that's it nothing after that about the rwEng engine.
In rweng trace, I see that it is able to init the orb, load librw90.so and start the cinitengine.
After that it I believe it should register the rwEng engine, which it doesnot no errors to this effect however.
As the rwEng has not started completely , the server is always in a starting up state (initializing), and any connect results in 50001.
Also, to ensure that there are no configuration issues, I loaded iDS 9.0.2 on linux. The reports server from the iDS starts without any hassles with the same conf file as of 9iAS.
Hence I am stuck where to look for problems.
    Please help.
    Thnx.

I tried to upgrade an existing Oracle 8 database TEST1 which has data in it, and got the following error:
ORA-01119: error in creating database file D:\oracle\oradata\test1\sysaux01.dbf.
ORA-27044: unable to write the header block of file.
One last question is that after the failing of the DBUCA, I was told that the 10g was successfully installed on my server while no orcl database was created even if I chose
to create a database orcl during my installation.
The following are services running for 10g after the installation.
    OracleCSService Started
    OracleOraDb10g_home1iSQL*Plus Started
    OracleOraDb10g_home1SNMPPeerEncapsulator
    OracleOraDb10g_home1SNMPPeerMasterAgent
    OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListenerLISTENER10 Started
Anybody has any idea what went wrong?
Your early reply is greatly appreciated.
    Jane

    I believe the answers are:
    1. the Oracle client needs to be the same bits as the TimesTen server. i.e. if you have 64b TimesTen, then you will need 64b Oracle client. If you have 32b TimesTen then you will need 32b Oracle client.
    2. Yes. I believe you can install 64b TimesTen with 64b Oracle client and connect this to a 32b Oracle server. I dont have any idea about performance overhead of this configuration.

  • Oracle 9iAS Installation Issues, Win 2000

    Hi Folks,
    I'm trying to Install 9IAS on a WIN2000 PE.
I already have Oracle NT Personal Edition (download nt817personal), up and running.
My Question is do I need to use Oracle nt817ee (Enterprise Edition)
    Any suggestions ?
    Thanks

I agree with your 5 P's, but Oracle is killing themselves by not improving the installation issues. Oracle is in a fight to the death with Microsoft, and there are a lot of people who give up on Oracle products because the learning curve is too steep just to be able to login as Scott. I have a lot of experience with Windows and Oracle, and have installed the RDBMS on probably 50 separate machines in the last several years, yet I still cringe when I double click setup.exe since I never know if universal installer is going to abort. I'm not a Unix or Linux guru, and I tried and tried to get Oracle RDBMS 8i to install on several flavors of Red Hat, but I gave up. DB2 and Interbase both installed without the hassles. Take a look at the Linux forum on Technet, and look at the effort that some people are doing to try to get it to work. It should not be this hard. I would like to use Linux/Oracle on some of our servers, but frankly it is too hard currently. You shouldn't need a metal link account to install software on a clean install of Windows, or be a guru at writing device drivers for Linux to install Oracle on that platform.
