Oracle 9iAS J2EE support
Hi
From which version onwards Oracle 9iAS supports J2EE standards. We are using 9iAS version 1.0.2.0.0. Is this version supports J2EE standards. If not, to what version I should upgrade to make it J2EE compatible.
Thanks
Santhosh.
Santosh,
You have two choices:
Oracle9iAS Release 2 v902xx is J2EE 1.2 compatible with support for many of the most popular J2EE 1.3 features.
Oracle9iAS Release 2 v903 is fully J2EE 1.3 compatible.
Both of these products have been around for a while.
Hope this helps,

Oracle 9iAS R2 support for JAX - RPC / B / P /M
Hi,
browsing the web I came accross to the following links:
http://otn.oracle.com/tech/webservices/htdocs/wsvsm/wsorcl.html
http://otn.oracle.com/tech/xml/htdocs/standard.html
And it seems that Oracle 9iAS R2 supports the libs mentioned on Subject.
From other channels I've been told that this is not true at least for some of them on OC4J 9.0.3/4.
Can anyone please clarify this ?
Aren't OC4J 9.0.3/9.0.4 part of 9is R2 ?
Thanks.
Giuseppe.Actually, JAXB is the preferred mechanism going forward with 10.0.3 JAXRPC Web Services(http://otn.oracle.com/tech/java/oc4j/1003/content_preview.html) - you will see in the XDK 10 beta (http://otn.oracle.com/tech/xml/xdk/xdkbeta.html).
However, in 9iAS R2 JAXB is not built in ... if you want to go down this road you can try working with the JAXB RI.
Our plans with 10.0.3 start with support JAXB in the run time but also within the design time of JDeveloper. The goal would be to model your schema in its new visual schema editor, have a design time option to generate the JAXB object model and then implement a Web service that consumes that schema. Of course this could be done out side of JDev - JDev just gives a design time rather than command line tools from the runtime.

J2EE Application works on OC4J standalone but not Oracle 9iAS
I have a J2EE application that works successfully on OC4J 9.0.3, but not when deployed on Oracle 9iAS 9.0.3.
The platform in Win2K
What I am seeing is certain POST requests are sent to the server, call an EJB, update the database, and return a JSP, but sometimes, only half the response is seen by the browser, along with a TCP RST packet, which is why the response is not seen by the browswer.
I think this could be a bug in the Oracle HTTP server. Has anyone seen a similar problem? Are there any solutions, other than throwing away 9iAS and using a different appserver? AFAIK, it is not possible to apply any patches to the Oracle HTTP Server without losing support. Is this correct?Hi Andrew,
Are there any solutions, other than throwing away 9iAS
and using a different appserver? As far as I know, OC4J stand-alone is a (J2EE compliant) application server, and an officially supported Oracle product. So maybe just throw away "iAS" and use OC4J ;-)
For your information, OC4J can be used with the Apache Web server. Visit the OrionSupport Web site for details.
Good Luck,

J2ee naming services and Oracle 9iAS
I am trying to use the JNDI services of the j2ee specs with JDeveloper and the Oracle Application server (9iAs). Doing this we have the problem that JDeveloper do not support the java.naming package. We have added the package to JDeveloper but we do not know ik Oracle 9iAs will work with this package added.
Can someone give me some information about the use of JNDI within JDeveloper and Oracle 9iAs

Do older versions of Oracle Application Server support Containers for J2EE?
Do older versions of Oracle 9iAS support Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE (OC4J)?
I went to the our companies application server directory. I don't see an oc4j or j2ee directory.
Thanks,
MercedHow far back are you looking? ANd what, in particular, are you looking for ...
The history of the Oracle 'internet service' that I remember is roughly:
Web Server 2.1 (mid 1990s)
Web Application Server 3.x (mid 1990s)
Oracle Application Server 4.0.x (late 1990s)
Oracle Internet Application Server 1.0.x (2000)
Oracle Application Server 8i (basically 1.0.2.22.2.z)
Oracle Application Server 9i (9.0.2, 9.0.3)
Oracle Application Server 10g (9.0.4, 10.?.1)
Oracle had an initial J2EE container [attempt] with 4.0.x but that never really took off. I think that was really around the time of the last beta revisions for the JSP spec, and that's left us with the legacy of JServ apps. Seems like you would see OJSE, Oracle JSE (Java Server Engine?) in the docco and path.
IIRC, the current OC4J lineage started with around IAS 1.0.2 and has moved forward on what is now OC4J. There were some opportunities in the early days to improve consistency in the naming and directory structure areas. That has some lineage from Ironflare's Orion engine and so occasionally you see 'Orion' in the messages. -
Oracle 9iAS Support for WebUtil
Oracle 9iAS Support for WebUtil
With the official release of WebUtil soon approaching on 10g will this mean that WebUtil will be supported on a 9i achitecture as well?
I have successfully installed the beta version of webutil in a development environment and have been very impressed by its ease of use and functionality. However my bosses are concerened about deploying a beta release on our live 9iAS R2 setup until it is confirmed that Support will be available.
When will WebUtil be officialy released on 10g?
Will Oracle offer support for those using WebUtil on 9i?
Many thanksTim,
I'd like to give Grant the final word on this because he is more involved, but to my understanding and current information, WebUtil will be supported with Oracle Application Server 10g only.
Forms 9i and Forms 10g are not that different in that there is no real migration work needed. For this reason we plan to support Forms10g and Application Server 10g.
The release of WebUtil - again Grant will know better - should be anytime now.

Can't find the J2EE directory on Oracle 9iAS version 1.0.2.2.x
Hi,
I'm trying to set the JDBC Data Source. According to the documentation I need to go to the J2EE directory. I can't find this directory on Oracle 9iAS version 1.0.2.2.x. We can't upgrade so I don't know how to proceed.
Your feedback is appreciated.
Thanks,
MercedHi!
I'm not 100% sure but I believe that in the 1.0.2.x release there was no J2EE structure in the application server. Things were done then with JServ.
I understand that you cannot upgrade but be aware that 1.0.2.x is ancient (like stone-age) and Oracle desupported this long ago.

A client wants to connect a Tuxedo application to an Oracle 9iAS
application (Oracle was not my choice, forced into it by upper
management). Obviously this is already well handled with Weblogic, but
how about something non-BEA? I'm not a J2EE person, but someone said
JMS Connectors, and someone else said the Java Native Interface to JMS.
I see this as a Tuxedo question, how do I interface to JMS?
Suggestions? (getting Weblogic is not a valid answer. Oracle cut the
clients annual license by a $1 Million if they would use 9iAS for their
new projects instead of Weblogic. You do the math.)

means of an unsolicited notification targeted to a Java JOLT "client". I am not
a Java programmer but reading the JOLT docs it seems to me it should be doable.
If it is practical in the real world might be another story, though...
I want
a queueing environment like /Q, AQ, or MessageQ, but must adhere to the
J2EE
interface standards. Does /Q support JMS?

Oracle 9iAS on Solaris w/Oracle 8.1.6 on NT 4
We are currently running Oracle 7.3.4 on NT 4 w/Oracle Application Server 4.0.8.1 on NT 4. We are planning to set up a new Oracle 8.1.6 database server to replace the 7.3.4 database, and after that set up a Solaris box with Oracle 9iAS to replace the OAS 4.0.8.1. Can someone (ideally from Oracle) comment whether there are any issues which would cause problems between such a final set up? I heard that database-wise 8.1.5 was the minimum necessary to work with iAS even back when it was 8iAS. In any case, I would like to get some confirmation that the NT database and the Solaris Application Server will not have problems. I didn't see any comments about problems in a quick look at the 9iAS release notes or installation guide.
Thanks.

Oracle 9iAS Orion Server Crashes on Running RWSERVLET
We are developing a product with JSP as front end,EJB as middle tier and Oracle as DB.Oracle 9iAS is the deployment environment. We are using the RWSERVLET configuration. We have configured Orion to communicate with RWSERVLET.Rwservlet copied to web-inf/classes folder, entry given in web.xml accordingly. Two JAR files copied to lib folder. When the first request goes from client the report is getting displayed fine.
There is a delay in displaying the output of the request. If in case another request is sent from the same client before the first request is served by the reports server, the RWServlet makes the Orion of Oracle 9iAS to crash. The middle tier aborts with the following message..
# HotSpot Virtual Machine Error, EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
# Error ID: 4F533F57494E13120E43505002D4
abnormal program termination
Also, in reports there is no way of finding whether the report server is still serving the request or has finshed the request,so that atleast we can stop the user from making the second request,if the report server is serving the first request.IS IT A BUG IN RWSERVLET???? - Oracle Reports Team.Has it been rectified??.Is there a way of finding whether the report server has served the request or not??.We are in the end of our project and Oracle Reports have created this problem for us....
Please help Oracle Reports Team.Help!!!!!!
Gracelinhello,
for your problem with the crash of OC4J, i would contact oracle support services.
if you set up the reports server database queues, it will mirror the server queue into a database table, where you can check what the status of your job is.
