Oracle 9iAS Portal architecture

Hello everybody,
does someone know any document about oracle9iAS architecture?
thanks a lot
Samar

Oracle9iAS Portal Center is the best starting point for finding information on portal.
For example:

  • Install Oracle 9iAS - Portal & infrastructure

    Hi,
I installed Oracle 9iAS Infrastructure in c:\OraHome. When I try to install Oracle 9iAS - Portal and Wireless in the next step, it seems not possible to install this product in the same Oracle home (c:\OraHome). Will this cause problems later ? Where can I find information which explains the general concept of 'homes'. If the products are in different homes can Portal and SSO service still draw information from the same database ?
    Kind regards,
    Rene Heuven

Oracle Application Server middle tiers (Portal for example) needs to exist in a separate Oracle Home from Identity Management or Metadata Repository. Please refer to the installation guide.

  • Do I need start the database before installing Oracle 9iAS portal?

I found the Oracle white paper which talks about installing
Oracle8i EE and Oracle 9iAS portal on windows 2000. Based this
document, after Oracle 8i installaion but before installing
Oracle 8.1.7.1.1 path, all the Oracle database related services
startup type have been changed to 'Manual'.
Based on my understanding, there are some objects will be
created in this database during the installation of 9iAS portal
repository. But this oracle white paper didn't say that I need
have the database ruuning during the 9iAS installation. Do I
need to start the database before installing 9iAS?
    Thanks

    hi,
Even i am new to oracle application server and had the same doubt that you have.
When you install Application Server there would be two tiers installed, application tier and middle tier, these tiers can be running from the same machine or different machines.
These tiers will have a meta data repository to store application server related data, this database will be installed along with application server.
It is upto you to install "oracle database 10gR2 " before or after installaion of application server, this will be an independent database which will have its own home, but after this installation you will have three homes, ex: infra_home,mid_home and 10gR2_home.
by default oracle_home is set to the last installation that happens so if you install the database 10gR2 after installing application server it will point to 10gR2_home, but if you install 10gR2 before and application server later then the oracle home will be infra_home(if both the middle tier and infratier are on the same machine)
you can always change the oracle home by using set ORACLE_HOME=path/to/oracle/home( in windows)
    or export ORACLE_HOME=path/to/oracle/home (in unix)
    hope this helps....
    regards

  • URGENT - Oracle 9i, Oracle 9iAS, and Oracle 9iAS Portal Installation Problem

    ERROR :
    1. Objects with type JAVA CLASS with more than 30 characters are truncated to 30 characters
    2. There are only 30 objects with type JAVA CLASS are installed (instead of 334) mentioned on the troubleshooting guide
    3. Oracle9iASHttpService automatically stops after starting the service
    Environment :
    Windows 2000 Server
    Oracle 9i 9.0.1.1.1
    Oracle 9iAS 3.0.9.8.2 (Oracle 9iAS 1.0.2.2.2a)
PDK Services for Java version 3.0.9.0.4 (from Patch used to install 3.0.9.8.2)
    Patches 8.1.7.1.1, 8.1.7.1.5, 3.0.9.8.2
I installed the Oracle 9i, 9iAS, Portal and the patches based on the installation instructions (http://portalstudio.oracle.com/pls/ops/docs/FOLDER/COMMUNITY/OTN_CONTENT/DOCUMENTATION/INSTALL_GUIDE_9I.PDF)
I tried adding the Sample Web Provider I got ORA-29531 error on HttpProviderDispatcher. Then I checked the Patch 8.1.7.1.1 installation, they are some scripts that need to be run that was not part of the 9i/9iAS installation instruction. I run the suggested scripts(catalog.sql, catproc.sql and utlrp.sql) and modified the jserv.properties to point the xsqlconfig.xml to ORACLE_HOME\oracore\admin.
The error still persisted. From the Troubleshooting PDK Services for Java, one of the suggestion is to run the sql command :
    Select object_name, object_type, status from user_objects where object_name like '%HttpProvider%';
which resulted to an object with name '/3334f18_HttpProviderDispatche' without the 'r' at the end
    and
    Select count(object_name) from user_objects where object_type='JAVA CLASS';
which resulted to only 30 VALID object. According to the installation instruction, there are supposedly 334 objects.
I checked the object_name of the other JAVA CLASS objects, all the names of the objects are all less than 30 characters. It looks like that the objects with the object_name > 30 are truncated to 30 characters.
Then I rebooted the machine, when the machine went back on Oracle9iASHttpService stops automatically after it has been started.

I have posted question on that thread and there is no specific solution from our problem. From the Oracle PDK Troubleshooting PDK Services for Java, it looks like there is a problem on the Oracle Portal installation. I tried recompiling the packages and my problem worsened. Now I cannot start the Oracle9iAS HTTP Service.

  • Online Training or Tutorials for Oracle 9iAS Portal Release 2

Is there any available online training or tutorials for Oracle 9iAS Release 2 that we can download? I checked the FAQ for release 2 and it looks like there are a lot of changes in building pages, content areas and portlets.
    Thanks.

We'll probably start to release this kind of stuff between the launch and Oracle World Copenhagen - June 02
Currently we have not published any online training materials.
    Thx

    THANKS

    Hi,
You will get this error when the sqlnet connection from mod_plsql to the database cannot be established properly. Make sure that your DAD and your tnsnames file are in synch and that you can connect to the database.
Btw, 9iAS was desupported last summer. For new Portal installations you should go for 10.1.2.0.2 (+10.1.4 Portal patch set).

  • Oracle HR & Oracle 9iAS Portal

Does anybody have Oracle HR successfully installed and
integrated into Oracle Portal as a portlet? We're looking into
implementing it and wondering how feasible and how manageable it
    is.
    Thanks in Advance-
    Jen

I have tried the same, but the Main Responsibilities screen appears with 'No DAD Configuration Found' errors.
I have also tried to create the same using BASIC HTML iFrame & Layers, but it seems that the Oracle HRMS application screens are not completely web enabled.

Mike, the short answer is that I recommend you have a read of the white paper "Oracle9iAS Portal Configuration Options" which can be found on Technet at http://technet.oracle.com/docs/products/ias/doc_library/1022doc_otn/portals.102/a90096/toc.htm.
The long answer is really long so I'll make a few comments. I'm a bit confused that you say that you can click on the "Mod PLSQL configuration menu" from the "http://myhost.mycompany.com/pls/portal30" page. Normally you would access the "Mod PLSQL configuration menu" from the default 9iAS HTTP Server page of "http://myhost.mycompany.com" so I'm assuming you made a typo with your cut and paste. A few suggestions would be:
    1. Can you get to the http://myhost.mycompany.com page from outside the firewall?
    2. Can you then click on the "Mod PLSQL configuration menu" and get to the 'Gateway Configuration Menu' page?
Getting to 1. is just talking to the Apache listener in 9iAS, however once oyu try to access 2. you must go through the Single Sign On Server and login. If you can;t get to the login page then you should rerun the ssodatan script as detailed in the above paper to make sure that all your configuration is correct.
    Hope this helps,
    Mick.

  • Integration of Oracle 9iAS Email with Portal-URGENT!!!!

    Hi all,
Is it possible to integrate Oracle 9iAS Email component with Oracle Portal so that we can do away with the need for installing Exchange Portlets? Can neone throw more light in this regard.
    Regds.
    Kiran.

9iAS comes with an Email Server, if that is what you are asking.
You could always write an IMAP portlet, which allows you to read/send mail.

  • Oracle 9iAS Rel.2 Portal

I have successfully installed the Oracle 9iAS Infrastructure and portal in release 2 of 9iAS
I have got the different Oracle homes for the J2EE, Infrastructure, and Portal also.
Can any one please tell me How should I run the Oracle Portal on my machine.
Step by Step solution is heartly desired.
    Thanks and Regards
    Suhas Shahapurkar

    Hi Bijesh,
We are coming out with a portal sizing document shortly on portalcenter (portalcenter.oracle.com). Meanwhile, ideally, for a production enviornment, you should be having Oracle9iAS infrastructure and Oracle9iAS on different machines. This configuration is more scaleable.
    Thanks,

  • Capacity planning 9iAS/Portal and/or 9iAS

I've looked all over metalink and otn, and can't find any good info on capacity planning for 9iAS/Portal, or 9iAS in general. #CPU, RAM, etc.
This is the closest I've gotten so far:
    http://technet.oracle.com/products/ias/install-faq.html
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/forms/pdf/6iscalability.pdf
Does Oracle just refers customers to their www.oracle.com/consulting ($?) group for this information, or is it documented somewhere that customers can see?
I understand that for a complex large scale enterprise Portal deployment that it would be necessary to hire consultants for hardware sizing and architecture, but there have to be some free guidelines that would be useful for customers with smaller requirements?
    Thanks,

This was posted the day prior to our offline discussion. Am still interested in continuing our conversation (via this forum if you'd prefer).
Have you had a chance to look at the cacheability report that I had sent to you?
Aside from server clock issue I'd like to know what etags are used and generated by the portal infrastructure.
This is an important issue for our globalization project.
Many thanks and hope you're traveling safe!

  • 9iAS Portal intsllation question

We are designing the technical architecture for a terabyte size data warehouse. We are proposing and end to end Oracle solution, uing 9iAS Portal for end user access to the warehouse star schema.
Is it required that portal schemas (portal, portal_sso) be installed in the same database as the data warehouse data? If not required, then is it recommended? What are the pros and cons of this approach?

No, it is not required to have the data in the same instance. The recommended approach depends on how you plan to expose the data through the portal. If you are planning on creating web providers/portlets that access and display the data, then it would be better to have the data in a different instance. If you are using Webview components and/or PL/SQL providers, separate instances would require the use of DBLinks which can be problematic from a performance perspective. In that case, it boils down to how much CPU you have on the warehouse instance. The portal requires a significant amount of CPU, so if the machine is already fairly loaded with warehouse activity then the distributed solution is likely to be better.
