Oracle 9iDS Buggy ???

Hello,
I installed Oracle 9i DS on a Windows XP Pro (SP2) machine. After working with the tools for some time, I notice that for some reason I can no longer open forms/reports and the application slows down to a crawl.
Are there any patches or feedback on this issue ?
Paolo

Yeah. Right.
I also often see this internal errors and they're usually connected to opening/closing plls that are used by already open fmb. The only thing that works is restarting forms builder. I can live with that one.
The other not so nice "feature" is random oracle forms builder "freeze".
It doesn't go blank - it redraws screen elements with cca 1 second delay. I'm convinced it's builders and not OS problem (everything else works just fine on XP SP2 on P4 1.6GHz with 1GB of RAM - all I have to do is to minimize builder window). The only solution I have found is to restart computer (up to 6-7 times in a day). That's annoying.
I have used 9i for 2 years and 10g for couple of months and this annoyance started to appear recently (after I started new project). I never liked forms that much but now I'm sure I don't want to use them.

  • Is there any way to generate Gantt chart by using oracle 9iDS?

Is there any way to generate Gantt chart by using oracle 9i reports builder
Can you please send me the link or more information on oracle 9iDS.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Oracle9iDS itself doesn't support creating Gantt charts. The option oyu have is to use Oracle Graphics 6i, because there is no Graphics in 9i, and configure it to run with Oracle9i Forms. There exist a whitepaper at otn.oracle.com/products/forms that explains how to make Graphics 6i work with Forms 9i.

  • Installing Oracle 9iDS on Solaris 8 with Oracle 9i DB already running

Current setup is some what like this. We have SunV440 Server and have Oracle 9i Database running on it. To install 9i DB we have created a user Oracle on OS Solaris8. Now we would like to install Oracle 9iDS (Developer Suite) and configure its Separate ORACLE_HOME directory, as 9iDS won't letus have it configured in the exisiting HOME. It is known that I have to stop all Oracle services and process, should I also stop listner that is running.
Please help me in detail steps involved and also if some OS files needs to be updated
    Thanks in anticipation for help

    Hello Chessplayer!
Before you attempt the Oracle install, make sure you have done the following as the Oracle CD does nothing but put down the Oracle binaries:
    1. Create /opt/app/oracle
    2. Put a .profile in /opt/app/oracle sourcing your Oracle_Home and Oracle_Sid.
    3. Create file systems (volumes) where database datafiles will go. If you are working
with a single disk, /vol01 is sufficient. However, you may want to create others to simulate
multiple disks and the concept of "spreading" your load ie. data from index.
    4. You may also want to create a /dumps file system for oracle dump files.
    Have fun.

  • Oracle 9iDS related queries

    Dear all,
Please, help me to provide the answers or document for the followinf queries.
    1. Major difference between Oracle 6iDS and Oracle 9iDS.
    2. Can I Execute application developed in Oracle 6i
(Client-Server) as is in Oracle 9iDS?
    3. Can I execute forms developed in Oracle 9iDS without
    Application Server?
    4. Equivalent of DFLT.PRT (available in 6i) in Oracle 9iDS
You can also send me the document (if any) by mail. My mail id is [email protected]
    Thanks

    Hi,
    1. Major difference between Oracle 6iDS and Oracle 9iDS.
    - Listener Servlet architecture
    - Web only
    - 25+ new features (design, deployment and architecture)
    2. Can I Execute application developed in Oracle 6i
(Client-Server) as is in Oracle 9iDS?
You need to re-compile them. Also there are some obsoleted built-ins that you need to migrate if you use them. There is a migration assistant contained in the DeveloperSuite (FMA)
    3. Can I execute forms developed in Oracle 9iDS without Application Server?
Only with Oracle9iDS there is a stand alone OC4J instance that you use for designtime testing your application. For production the only supported application server is Oracle Application Server
    4. Equivalent of DFLT.PRT (available in 6i) in Oracle 9iDS
Sounds Reports related and I would try this question on their forum.

  • Oracle 9iDS

    Hi every one,
I've installed oracle 9iDS for forms development and integrate beans into it. whenever i start OC4J, it says that
" Error starting HTTP-Server: Address in use: JVM_Bind
    Oracle9iAS (9.0.2.0.0) Containers for J2EE initialized".
what surprises me is that this happens on it's will. sometimes if i restart it, it works properly, sometimes not.I've posted this on metalink, and got a reply saying that there'll still be some process running in the task manager corresponding this OC4J.
But this happens even after restarting my PC. so, the above said solution is not the appropriate one.
can anyone please answer my problem.
The irony is my Project manager is the 4th employee of Oracle-Malaysia, some 10 years back. He is also unable to answer this.
    regards,
    durga.

Yes, to develop and test you don't need Application server.

  • Where can i find the forms runtime in oracle 9ids or 9ias?

    hi everyone.
it is well known that oracle forms 6i contains runtime that we can run or test our oracle application under this platform, but it makes me puzzle that i can't find runtime
in oracle 9ids or 9ias,so i can't run my oracle application under such a platform as 6i runtime.i think it very discommodiousness. i also think that it might be somewhere in 9ids or 9ias where i can find runtime, can you tell me where the runtime is?
    regards

The first release of the Form Personalization feature was included in the FND 11i.10 minipack (FND.H).

  • Stop OC4J within Oracle 9IDS

I now have a problem to stop oc4j using bat file(stopinst.bat) provides with Oracle 9IDS.It returns me this error: "security error: invalid username/password for default(admin)"
    and don't shutdown oc4j.
    What can i do?
    Thanks for your answers.

    Hi,
did you change the admin password ?
The script to shutdown the OC4J container expects the password to be "manager". The password is encrypted in the jazn-data.xml file in the directory <DevSuite Home>\j2ee\DevSuite\config.
To reset the password to "manager":
    ====================================
Open jazn-data.xml file and edit the following line
                   <user>
                        <name>admin</name>
                        <display-name>OC4J Administrator</display-name>
                        <description>OC4J Administrator</description>
                        <credentials>{903}ahmOORfKx5dLGUS91OhhOtFgWzPdOvfC</credentials>
                   </user>
    Change it to
                   <user>
                        <name>admin</name>
                        <display-name>OC4J Administrator</display-name>
                        <description>OC4J Administrator</description>
                        <credentials>!manager</credentials>
                   </user>
It is important to have the '!' in front. Restart OC4J.

  • Oracle 9ids and JSpell Installation

Looking into incorporating JSpell into an Oracle 9i application but can not figure out how to install the JSpell software.
The development environment is a Windows XP box running Oracle 9ids.
Has anybody been able to install the JSpell software in an Oracle 9ids environment and if so how?

I guess I can assume that nobody including Oracle (who recommends jspell) has ever tried to install jspell in an Oracle 9ids development environment.
Either that or Oracle does not use the forums

  • Oracle 9iDS or Oracle9iAS

    Hi,
Oracle9iDS has a report server, and Oracle9iAS also a Reports Server. My understanding is that Oracle9iDS is a development environment, and the report services are not meant to be used in production environment.
Can anybody refer me to some docs or url, which can explain as to which one should be used under which situations.
    Thanks in advance,
    Prabhu.

    Hello Prabhu,
You are right, the Reports Server contained in Oracle9iDS is for development purpose only and should not be user for deployment.
You can use the 9iDS embedded OC4J/Reports Server to test all your development and when it is done deploy it.
    The document: http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/whitepapers/oc4j_ids/howToReportsServicesIds.htm
explain how you can use the OC4J/Reports Server embedded in 9iDS to test your reports.
Use the "Publishin Reports on The Web" manual to deploy your reports under Oracle9iAS. (See Documentation section on OTN)

    Tugdual.
