ORACLE 9iR2 OMS On SuSE 8

I have installed ORACLE 9i R2 on SuSE with no errors. And I have configured my OMS with no errors. But when I use "oemctl start oms" to start OMS,it said "Time out to start oms,......checking oem.nohup".I opened the oem.nohup,it said /usr/bin/nice /opt/oracle/product/9.2.0/bin/oemLaunchOms:Bat interpreter,No such file or directory. But I can find nice and oemLaunchOms in they directory.Somebody can help me?

Well, what about the listener and the instance ? are they running ? If not, plz start it first, before you start OMS. You have to start the listener first, then the instance. Do not do it vice versa or the OMS will give you an error.
Hope this help

  • Migrate oracle 9iR2 database from Suse to Red Hat???

    Hi Everyone,
We're going to move an oracle 9iR2 database from Suse to Red Hat. At this moment I don't know the detail about the platforms yet. I still like to ask a question if DB backup on Suse is compatible on RedHat? Physical restoring may be our prefer instead of exp/imp.
    Any advices?
    Thanks,
    Eric

I'm pretty sure (never did it myself) that there will be not problem when moving the database. The Oracle software is the same (at least when you use the x86 version) so
the format of the datafiles and controlfiles should be identical.
However some configuration files (network settings) might differ so try before you die :-)

  • Oracle 9i Installation on SuSE Linux 9.0

I am trying to install Oracle 9iR2 on SuSE 9.0
All pre-Installation Setup was done like i saw on Suse web pages (create Oracle-User, oinstall-usergroup etc.)
I login as root-user on the system and open a shell session (localy) as oracle user with :: sux oracle :: command.
I started runIstaller and got the welcome windows from oracle Installer. i can click on each button but the button next is not reacting so that i could go to the next window. Can you please tell me why the installer is not properly working?

you have to unlock the numpad key on your keyboard.

  • Subject:  DBConnection fails from 64Bit OS to 32Bit OS using Oracle 9iR2.

    Message:
Hi, I have a problem connecting to Oracle Database in the following scenario. Anybody's help is very much appreciated.
    Scenario:
    1. I have two servers [Say A - with Windows server 2003 (x64 bit edition) and Say B - with Windows server 2003 (32 bit edition)]
    2. Oracle 9iR2 (32bit) Database is installed on B.
    3. Oracle 9iR2 (32bit) Client is installed on A.
    4. I have an application (running as service) developed using C++ on A.
    5. I use the oraOLEDB to connect to the database (9.2.0.1.0)
    6. When the application is running in debug/release mode the connection gets established.
    7. When the application is running in the service mode I always get the following error "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name"
    8. I have verified the TNSNAMES.ORA file and the contents are valid.
    9. Listerner is running fine on both the systems.
NOTE; I have to use only OLEDB. Please do not suggest me to use any other connection mechanism.
    Do I miss something here?
    Thanks.

Basically ORA-12154 means, service name can't be found in tnsnames.ora or this file can't be located at all. Are there multiple ORACLE_HOMEs on the machine ? Is the application based on OLEDB running in a different home , NOT in the client's ORACLE_HOME? You may set TNS_ADMIN, pointing to your tnsnames.ora, as global environment variable. So each application on the machine will know this location.
I'm sure this is not a problem 64bit versus 32bit.

  • Oracle 9i installation on SuSE 7.3 freezes

    Hello-
just tried to install Oracle 9i on my SuSE 7.3 Linux box. After
the software installation I tried to create a new database
with "dbca", but when Oracle starts to create the database it
freezes the whole system. I can't even move the mouse cursor
    then.
    What's wrong?
    Thanks in advance.
    Wojtek

Some screensavers on KDE on SuSE 7.3 freezes; Oracle9i behaves
erratically on my incarnation of 7.3 during installation. I've
had it lock up the session, log off the session, and tank the
whole computer. All while trying to install the database
    product.
I have not tried the various tips and such found here yet.
Most Linux installations allow multiple window managers,
selectable at logon; perhaps any KDE issues can be circumvented
by using a less complex wm...?

  • I installed Oracle database 10g on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 edition.

I installed Oracle database 10g on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 edition.
But this massage pop up when I used my browser first time before start database.
Actually when I clicks on yes to start database.
The web browser you are using is not optimized for this release of Oracle enterprise manager. It is recommended that you use one of the following:
    * Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5, 6.0 or higher
    * Netscape Navigator version 7 and higher
    *Mozilla version 1.3.1 and higher
Dose any one know hoe to upgrade mozilla or install internet explorer 5.5, 6.0 or higher or SLES 8.
    Regards,
    D

You can download package for your distribution (for example) from http://www.mozilla.org or directly from SuSE ftp server ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.1/suse/i586

  • Migration Oracle 9iR2 - Oracle Database 10g Express Edition, please, help

    Good day!
Now I study examples from tutorial book "Oracle 9iR2 Data Warehousing"
(translated to Russian) written by Lilian Hobbs, Susan Hilson, Shilpa Lawande. However my Oracle is "Oracle Database 10g Express Edition" and ( as I thought ) for this reason I can't perform these examples.
Please, help me, if it no hard.
First example founded on using "Oracle Database Configuration Assistant"
and "Oracle Enterprise Manager Console". However, I not found them at
    "Oracle Database 10g Express Edition".
Now I use only "Oracle Application Express" ( and SQL ). Please, tell me,
if "Application Express" has enough functionality with comparision to
"Oracle Database Configuration Assistant" and "Oracle Enterprise Manager Console"
and how I need to do ? (It must, because 10 > 9)
Second example founded on using SQL. First 80% SQL-commanfs of this executed succesfully. But command "CREATE TABLE easydw.purchases" has error message
"PARTITIONing is not available." Really, in "2 Day Developer Guide"
(SQL Reserved Words ) PARTITION is not exist.
Can I CREATE TABLE easydw.purchases by "Oracle Database 10g Express Edition"
(with PARTITIONing by other means of SQL )?
There is full text of this SQL-Command:
    CREATE TABLE easydw.purchases
    (product_id varchar2(8)
    constraint not_null_product_id NOT NULL
    constraint fk_product_id
    REFERENCES product(product_id),
    time_key date
    constraint not_null_time NOT NULL
    constraint fk_time
    REFERENCES time(time_key),
    customer_id varchar2(10)
    constraint not_null_customer_id NOT NULL
    constraint fk_customer_id
    REFERENCES customer(customer_id),
    purchase_date date,
    purchase_time number(4,0),
    purchase_price number(6,2),
    shipping_charge number (5,2),
    today_special_offer varchar2(1)
    constraint special_offer
    CHECK (today_special_offer IN ('Y','N')) )
    PARTITION by RANGE (time_key )
    partition purchases_jan2002
    values less than (TO_DATE('01-02-2002', 'DD-MM-YYYY'))
    pctfree 0 pctused 99
    storage (initial 64k next 16k pctincrease 0)
    tablespace purchases_jan2002,
    partition purchases_feb2002
    values less than (TO_DATE('01-03-2002', 'DD-MM-YYYY'))
    pctfree 0 pctused 99
    storage (initial 64k next 16k pctincrease 0)
    tablespace purchases_feb2002,
    partition purchases_mar2002
    values less than (TO_DATE('01-04-2002', 'DD-MM-YYYY'))
    pctfree 0 pctused 99
    storage (initial 64k next 16k pctincrease 0)
    tablespace purchasee_mar2002 );
Naturally, I also shall continue try find solution.
    Winni.

    Winni,
Partitioning is only available with Oracle Enterprise Edition.
Here is a list of features by edition:
    http://www.oracle.com/database/product_editions.html
DBCA is not needed with Express edition because you can only have one XE database per server, and all options are pre-configured.
Enterprise Manager Console is not included with XE - only with the other editions.
You can get most of the functionality through SQL, Application Express and SQL Developer.

  • Oracle 9ir2 Max length of element/field name?

Does anyone know what the max length of a element/field name can be in Oracle 9ir2?
    thanks,
    -mcd

Thanks.. So, the max length is still 30.. what about this:
Is this also true for the length of element names defined in an XML schema for use by Oracle XML DB?
There are two ways in which XDB can absorb a schema -- one that causes the XMLTYPE to be stored in a CLOB, the other causes the XMLTYPE to be broken down into relational tables behind the scenes. The latter uses the element names for the table names, so I'm assuming it would be restricted by the 30-character column name limit (unless XDB has some way of truncating the column names but preserving the element names). But what about the case where the XMLTYPE is stored in a CLOB? In theory, there's nothing limiting the length of the element name.

  • Installing Oracle 9iR2 on Oracle Enterprise Linux

    Hi.
Has anyone had success in installing oracle 9iR2 on Oracle Enterprise Linux release 5? I found some sites such as http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.shtml
and http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/linux/install/files/oracle9r2installonrh9.txt. I followed these but since they are not specific to oracle enterprise linux installs, i think there is stuff missing. I loaded all the libraries they reccommended, but when i run the installer, i get Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle.sysman.oii.oiic.OiicInstaller at java.lang.Class.initializeClass(libgcj.so.7rh)
caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: oracle.ewt.lwAWT.BufferedFrame not found in gnu.gcj.runtime.SystemClassLoader
    Can someone assist?

That's right. OEL5 has to be verified against the supported versions and workarounds and or patches will be released by Oracle so these issues can be solved. In the mean time, OEL4 has to be used.

  • Oracle 9iR2 JVM installation on MAC OS X

I'm running oracle 9iR2 on MAC OS X, and I'm trying to install the JVM to make some test of java functionalities.
Each time I runed the script $ORACLE_HOME/javavm/install/initjvm.sql, I have an error saying that 'create or replace java system'.
How some body now if this the JVM on MAC OS X is ok? if it is how to install it ?
if not, hwen can we hope to have this function on MAC OS X?

    Hi Laurent,
Although I'm not running Oracle 9i R2, and I don't use Mac OS X, I just wanted to mention a couple of things that you may be unaware of (since I saw no mention of them in your post).
    1. Since you are trying to install java by running the "initjvm.sql" script, I assume that you didn't install java when you installed the database. You can verify this by the following query:
    select
       VALUE
    from
       V$OPTION
    where
PARAMETER = 'Java'If that returns "TRUE", then java should already be installed in your database. You can check this by running the following query (as the "SYS" user):
    select
       OBJECT_NAME
    from
       USER_OBJECTS
    where
OBJECT_TYPE like 'JAVA%'and there should be several thousand rows returned.
    2. You must run the "initjvm.sql" script as user "SYS".
    Hope this helps you.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • Is our oracle 9iR2 db is a shared mode or dedicated mode? whats difference?

    Friends,
We are using Oracle 9iR2 Database. How can i know our db is a shared Server architecture or a dedicated server architecture?
Also, what is the difference between these two? Please tell me in short.
    Note: I didn't install/create our db.
    Thanks
    Sathyguy

Check out the distinct values in SERVER column in V$SESSION. If it reads DEDICATED, then you are in dedicated mode. If it reads NONE or SHARED, the you are using MTS (or shared server mode).
You can have DEDICATED connection in MTS mode also by changing the TNS entry.
Dedicated mode: Each of these client connections takes up some resources (memory, CPU time, net-work bandwidth…) on the database server. More the number of client connections, more is the resource consumption, more is the delay is processing the requests.
A database serving an application, where-in most of the server processes spawned by the client requests are idle for 90+% of the connect time, is a good candidate for Ora-cle Multi-Threaded Server (MTS) mode configuration.
Multi-Threaded Server is configuration method in which one server process can handle more than one client connections/processes/requests.
As there are a few number of server processes created on server, the server re-sources are utilised to a minimum. This enables the database administrator to define more number of dispatcher processes to handle the requests from the clients and more number of shared server processes that handle and process the requests be-tween these dispatchers and database kernel

    jpiwowar and fiebelko,
    Thanks both for your responses.
I use Parallels -- currently on 3186 and contemplating 3188 -- but it always concerns me having the process/memory hit from using the VM environment. Hence, I am also looking at other alternatives.
I participated in the CXMac beta program with some success on general M$ Office Apps, which actually run faster than their M$ Office for Apple equivalents and with no appreciable performance hit on my MBP.
Just before the CXMac Beta program closed, someone posted some feedback about running Oracle Client (Full) and TOAD through CXMac, and I was hoping that someone here would know what the process was for getting this running.
As Crossover Mac (WINE) is replicating Windows32 API's, there is no compile type issues. The tools should (theoretically) install as if in a Windows environment. Unfortunately, nothing is ever that simple, and the Beta program posts I referred to highlighted some required Registry hacks for the Oracle Client install.
I will try with the hacks that you pointed to jpiwowar, but I think there were more steps required.
    Thanks again,
    Peter.

  • System requirements to install Oracle 9iR2

What is the system minimum requirements to be able to install and run Oracle 9iR2?
    Is this enough?
    - Pentium3 500 mghz
    - 128 M of RAM
    ....thanks for your help

128 MB RAM will be enough but it will probably get pretty slow if you open Word and the Internet Explorer while working on the DB. So, personally, I would rather recommand 512 MB.

  • Oracle 9iR2 developer stopped working on 10.2.7+

    Hi all,
    Ive read the other posts about the next full version of Oracle being available on Mac OS X - which is great, cant wait for a date, but for now I have been testing Oracle a lot with the following results;
    1. G4 10.2.2 - Oracle 9iR2 runs fine.
    2. G4 10.2.6 - Oracle 91R2 runs fine.
    3. G4 10.2.8 - Oracle crashes on startup - coredump
    4. G5 10.2.7 (minimum for G5) - Oracle crashes - coredump
    5. G5 10.2.8 - Oracle crashes - coredump
Weve got some Xserve's too but now theyre already ugpraded to 10.2.8 so weve not even bothered to try Oracle on them as im sure it wont work. There seems to be major library changes from 10.2.7 and up which cause Oracle to coredump on startup (even straight from a clean install). This is disappointing as weve got these new G5's running 1.8Ghz or twin 2Ghz and we cant even get Oracle to run at all. I tried Metalink but of course the Beta developer version is not supported at all so they said to post a message here.
Can anyone help ? how can we get oracle fixed for 10.2.7+ or a new beta version for a G5 ? were dying to test it on our G5's and Xserves.
    The error on 10.2.7+ is;
ORA-07445: exception encountered: core dump [0xffff832c] [SIGFPE] [Invalid floating point operation] [0x53BE2BE4] [] []

for what it's worth I am running Oracle 9iR2 under 10.2.8 on a G4 Powerbook. It seems stable. JDeveloper works fine and I can access the database from Java programs via JDBC which seems to work well. However, some of the packages such as dbms_java won't load which means some of the XML functionality does not work.
