Oracle ADF Swing and Postgressql

Hello,
We have launched a product development initiative with postgress as database and Oracle Jdeveloper/ADF as development tool. However, we are seeing some basic loss of service with ADF when Postgress is backend. For e.g. when we create an ADF Swing application and in the model , building an ADF business component from table, it does not populate the model classes and table definitions in application module window when back end is postgress. However, if backend is Oracle, then it does populate thus allowing us to drag all attributes on the ADF Swing canvas.
Have you faced similiar situation?
Please advise.

User please tell us your jdev version!
The certification matrix http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/jdev/documentation/1212-cert-1964670.html#Abrams-SupportInformation-Databases does not show postgres as certified database. So you only get ' limited support', whatever this means.

Oracle ADF Model and BC4J api reference in JDev 10.1.3.03

Where I can find Oracle ADF Model and Business Components API Reference in JDev 10.1.3.03? Maybe it's not ready yet?

I don't know how up-to-date they are, but the javadoc files are all archived into jar files in the JDeveloper installation at: <jdev-install-dir>\jdev\doc\ohj. Most of the business component interfaces and classes are covered in the bc4jjavadoc.jar. You can either open the index.html file of the jar in JDeveloper and move through the links in the preview pane, or use the jar utility (or other unzipping util) to extract the jar file into your directory structure and then access the html files directly.

I am using Java Web Start, ADF Swing, ADF Business Components and Oracle database 10g.
My application needs to support 300 users.
Can I use database connection pooling in this configuration?

only if you would deploy ADF BC as EJB. Otherwise the ADF BC sources are on the client, which means that each client creates its own connection

Does Oracle ADF UIX use Struts components internally? If yes, Does Oracle Support the issues that arises because this internally used Struts components? (I am using Oracle ADF in my application.

DataForwardAction and DataAction are build on top of struts actions to coordinate ADF databindings and it's life cycle;
UIX, has xmlns:struts="http://xmlns.oracle.com/uix/struts" this XML namespace has some elements like
<struts:form> and <struts:messageTextInput> also <struts:dataScope>
They work like struts jsp tag;

Does Studio Creator support Oracle ADF Faces and other components?

"Although ADF Faces is "vanilla" JSF we have not been able to run with Java Studio Creator Build 04.06.2. We are working with Sun to resolve the issues in Java Studio Creator."
Does anyone know if Oracle ADF faces now work with Studio Creator and if so which version.
In addition I am also looking for JSF visualization components. In addition to advanced 3-D graphs (send as PNG to client) I am also looking for components to visualize the structure of a website. These all need to work with Studio Creator.

Importing 3rd party libraries used to be complicated. The .complib stuff was added precisely to make it easy.
It does make packaging slightly harder for third party -vendors-, since there's one extra step, but this makes everything easier for (the much larger number of) users of the third party components, since the packaging format specifies a bunch of stuff that we used to have to ask of users when trying to add the jar and associated metadata into the IDE.
The complib stuff is documented, so if you're producing a 3rd party JSF library, or if you really want to use one that hasn't yet been packaged, you can do the steps yourself.

while oracle adf security looks great its only role based... does anyone know of any resources describing an architecture where this is used in addition to filtering of data based on say, organization?
it seems that oracle adf security is not really geared towards a self service app where administrative users have a security interface as part of the application where they can assign roles and associate users to entities for the further filtering of data...

ADF Security is a JAAS based security implementation to protect resources (like entities). It is nota security provider like OPSS or OID which you can use for user provisioning and self service (if you code against the IDM APIs). ADF Security only checks for whether a user is authenticated and if the user has the permission to perform a task.
However, you can use groovy to access the security context from Groovy, which allows you to add the authenticated username to a query - for example to filter recrds out that match the username in one of its attributes.
For example, you could create a ViewCriteria that for example filters the query by a specific attribute. Say that managers can see data starting from department 10 whereas employees can see data starting from department 100. The ViewCriteria would reference a bind variable with the following default setting
adf.context.securityContext.isUserInRole('manager')? 10 : 100

Difference between Oracle ADF Mobile and Oracle ADF Mobile Client.

Hi Experts,
I am new ADF Mobile app development. I found docs for Oracle ADF Mobile here as [http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E35521_01/doc.111230/e24475/toc.htm]. I was following it sequentially.
But when i searched for achieving offline data , data synchronization and using database for Mobile apps, i got another docs link [http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23549_01/doc.1111/e14826/toc.htm] which is for Oracle® Fusion Middleware ADF Mobile Client .
So I got confused which one to prefer over the other..? Both support on device mobile apps.
do they have any difference over other or data sync & db features are not available for Oracle ADF Mobile..? & available only for Oracle ADF Mobile Client..?
It would be much helpful if someone could provide clear difference between these two technologies.

In Mobile Client iOS is not supported, in ADF Mobile it is. That's the main difference (in my opinion).

Oracle ADF Find and Execute in form

Hi,
I have followed the blog for creating a form which allows for searching. I am executing the Find operation on the viewiterator to enter into query mode at the time of launching the form (in pagephaselistener calling managed bean method and the method executes the OperationBinding.execute to execute the find operation). The view does not have any bind variables, It is a simple view on the table with out any mandatory fields. Then I executed "execute" operation using OperationBinding based on an event in the page by entering the query criteria on the page for a textfield. This is working fine and it is returning the matching records for the query criteria. So far it is good.

But the problem is when there are mandatory fields. My expectation is to execute the query based on the event in the UI even the mandatory fields are not filled. Let us say If the view object is having 4 mandatory columns and the user enters only 1 column it should perform the query and populate the fields. Could you please sugggest.
The behavior should be some thing similar to Oracle forms enter query and execute query modes for the same form fields.

Need more clarification on Page navigation in Oracle ADF Mobile and How to add add a AMX page in feature (beginner)

i am an android app developer and new to ADF Mobile , so there are some doubts on Navigation through pages and mapping the new AMX page to features.
Steps i have followed
1. i have created an project using Mobile Application (ADF)
2. right clicking on ViewController , i have added AMX page and added some componets
Now i just want to show this page while executing this application in mobile. i have added this page path in to feature also but i am getting a blank screen.
please give me solution or give me a good example or any link which will help out.
i have added a button in the first screen and i want to go to next screen if the user press it. i know that task flow will help to achieve this but how i will add this with page. i am bit confused on those topics.

ADF Swing Form Layout

Hi,
I am new to ADF swing and developing my very first applications and I am running into following challenges.
1. After creating business components(model) and view components, I created an empty form
2. From Data Control , I selected collection of attributes and dragged to the ADF Form area.
3. Then, clicked on Edit Form ,and made necessary changes and then confirmed the changes.
Now, I see that layout is completely locked or frozen. I can not drag or move any labels or any fields. I also can not resize any text field.
After reviewing further documentation, I set column property in helper.java file but still I can not resize, or move any of the field.
Any idea why it is not working? Also tried passing following in the code but still no luck
setMaximumSize(new Dimension(80, 70));
setPreferredSize(new Dimension(50, 50));
Please advise.

I have gone through the link provided. This approach sounds like more time consuming from development standpoint. I will explore more. But now I am contemplating to move to Netbeans. Not being able to use Java Swing in same manner as ADF swing and the fact that ADF Swing has been deprecated makes me think that way.
This does bring up a point from Oracle's technology direction though. It appears that technology to deliver native, standalone, traditional desktop applications are just not going to be supported anymore from Oracle and with cloud computing gaining momentum as time passes, it will become increasingly challenging to find a desktop development tool in Oracle's offering.
Would you agree?

Configuring Multiple Schemas in Oracle ADF application

Thanks all for the replies for my previous posts :-)
We have a requirement in which we need to configure our application for multiple Database schema. At runtime based upon the logged in user we need to get data from the schema related to that user.
These schema may be on same Database instance/server or may be on different DB servers.
The requirement is like this
Logged in User DB schema configured
"A" ASchema @ 127.0.0.1
"B" BSchema @ 127.0.0.2
"C" ASchema @ 127.0.0.1
"D" Dschema @ 127.0.0.2
based on the User login (which is happening through one OID system), I need to fetch data from different schema (configured for different application).
These schema have different set of tables but set of table we require for our application are of same structure.
Same structure means same Table names with same relations.
Please let me know can we do the same in Oracle ADF application and How?_
One more requirement is that if i add a user at runtime and configure the DB schema for this user, All data related to this users will be loaded from this Schema which is configured for this user.

You can try the below example to change database at run time.

Most of the other part is done to handle state management tables, which you might also have to do unless you use a file passivation store or if its ok to passivate to a single database always.
If its ok to passivate to a single db always. Hard code the jbo.server.internal_connection in the AM configurations to a DB jndi name.
Adf allows you to activate and passivate to a different database other than what you are connected to get and put data.

How to reduce Oracle ADF Mobile deployed file

I'm creating simple demos with Oracle ADF Mobile and the deployed file is more than 50mb. Is there a way to reduce this size? Maybe remove some unused features llike SQLLite?

My simple demo IPA files have been around 20MB with the default splashscreens and such, the only time it was bigger was when some files mistakenly got included. You could always load resources on-demand the first time over http and cache them in the app documents. This way you could only download the graphics for the current platform (so if it's a phone, you don't download iPad banners and graphics that your app needs)
