Oracle ADF UIX tutorial wont commit changes

I'm following the tutorial "Developing Applications with Oracle ADF UIX"
http://otn.oracle.com/obe/obe9051jdev/uixTutorial/lesson_UIX.htm
The tutorial works apart from if I create/update or delete a record its not commited to the database.
Where I'm I going wrong?
Thanks for any help.

create/update should be commited to database due to method "Commit" that you drop into commit data action, and delete won't be commited, you should additionaly create "Commit" button on your page or use another way to commit.

    I'm having the same problem. I looked over the recommended tutorial and it didn't cover how to mock up data in xml for prototyping. I think this tutorial is for JDeveloper 9i and not 10g. How is this done in JDev 10g?
    I entered this from the xml editor: I also tried:
    without a data tag
    with a data tag and with an inline tag
    with an inline tag
    nothing seems to work...

  • Oracle ADF UIX and Struts

    Does Oracle ADF UIX use Struts components internally? If yes, Does Oracle Support the issues that arises because this internally used Struts components? (I am using Oracle ADF in my application.
    Thanks,
    Aravind.

    DataForwardAction and DataAction are build on top of struts actions to coordinate ADF databindings and it's life cycle;
    UIX, has xmlns:struts="http://xmlns.oracle.com/uix/struts" this XML namespace has some elements like
    <struts:form> and <struts:messageTextInput> also <struts:dataScope>
    They work like struts jsp tag;
    here a good paper;

  • Tutorial: Developing Applications with Oracle ADF UIX

    I have jdeveloper version 10.1.2.0.0.
    The above tutorial works fine up to the point where I have to create an event handler for the 'edit' button. At this point we are asked to right click on the new event and select 'insert inside event'...............select UIX controller. On my version of jdeveloper there is no UIX controller item. There is a 'UIX servlet' item. If I select this and then follow the instructions I eventually get a '404 not found' error message when I try and run the application.
    The url for the tutorial is http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe_as_1012/j2ee/develop/client/uix/lesson_uix.htm.
    How do I complete the creation of an event handler with my version of jdeveloper.

    I was going through this tutorial and noticed that the image in Step 4 of "Create Default Business Components" shows the wrong View Objects. It shows CustomersView, OrderItemsView and OrdersView when they should be DepartmentsView and EmployeesView.

    updated image to show departments and employees, not the customer schema. thanks for catching this.

  • ADF UIX table example: oracle.cabo.doc.* missing

    Hi,
    I'm working through the Oracle ADF UIX Developer's Guide and want to try the ADF UIX Table Example. Unfortunately I don't seem to have the classes which are referred to in that example (located in oracle.cabo.doc.demo.table..), which makes it difficult for me to follow and understand the example.
    I've found a reply to a post to this forum of 26-nov-2002 where it is stated that these files were at that moment not yet available.
    My question is: have these files become available in the meantime. If so, wher can I find them?
    Regards,
    Anton

    Clicking on a sortable header generates a sort event. You need to specify a handler for this event. The error you see is a result of the application not knowing how to handle the sort event. On your page you should include something like the following to handle the sort event:
    <handlers>
    <event name="sort">
    <method class="myPackage.myClass" method="doMySort"/>
    </event>
    </handlers>
    For more details, see the "Sortable Column Headers" section in this chapter of the ADF UIX Dev Guide: http://helponline.oracle.com/jdeveloper/help/state/content/navSetId.jdeveloper/navId.4/vtAnchor.Sort/vtTopicFile.jdeveloper%7Cuixhelp%7Cuixdevguide%7Ctables%7Ehtml/

  • When will new ADF UIX demo be released?

    Are there any one can tell me when the new ADF UIX demo based on uix 2.2 be released?
    I want to know if we can get databind uix tree component (or other ui components) from ADF data action control which return dataobject and something else.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi Daniel,
    Are there any one can tell me when the new ADF UIX
    demo based on uix 2.2 be released?I'm not sure when any sample applications will be released, but there is an ADF UIX tutorial available here:
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/collateral/tutorials/9050/adfuix_tut.html
    I want to know if we can get databind uix tree
    component (or other ui components) from ADF data
    action control which return dataobject and something
    else.I'm not sure about the tree component - I'll try to find out whether that is/will be supported. Once your data controls are available in the Data Control Palette, you can bind them to components in your UIX page by:
    1. Selecting the data control that you want to bind.
    2. Selecting a component type from the "Drop As" choice.
    3. Dragging the data control onto the UIX page.
    This process is illustrated in the tutorial above.

  • ADF UIX programatic data binding

    Oracle ADF UIX Developer's Guide mentions the possibility to use the UIX framework in Java, to create new objects or alter the existing ones.
    E.g. we can create a table using a construct like:
    TableLayoutBean tlb = new TableLayoutBean();
    The same document demonstrates the data binding:
    BoundValue rows = new DataBoundValue(_YOUR_NAMESPACE, YOURNAME, "rows");
    tlb.setIndexedNodeList(new DataObjectListNodeList(rows));
    For "simple" attributes using DataObject DataObjectList, etc. the procedure is clear. But what about creating a data bound table or input text:
    <table model="${bindings.EmpView1}" ... >
    <messageTextInput model="${bindings.DeptCode}"/>
    It’s easy to understand that model="${bindings.EmpView1}" or model="${bindings.DeptCode}" are equivalent to multiple attribute bindings (data, validation, read-only, etc.), but it looks that the classes/methods resolving these equivalences and linking the bean to the corresponding DCControlBinding, are not public (or maybe I was not able to find them).
    How can we obtain programmatically, in Java, the same structure as described above (in XML)? The best would be to use the same classes used when the UIX XML document is parsed to create the page description.
    It would be very nice to be able to use a structure like
    tbl.setModel( new JUCtrlRangeBinding(...) );
    txt.setModel( new JUCtrlValueBinding(...) );
    or maybe
    txt.setAttribute( "model", new TextInputModelBoundValue(...) ) etc.
    In JSF we can do something like:
    ValueBinding vb = application.createValueBinding(value);
    component.setValueBinding(attributeName, vb);
    Can we do something similar in UIX?
    Any help will be appreciated,
    thanks,
    Mircea Ionita

    Since the code is already written, it's a pity that we can't use/extend it. I don't like to say it (sorry) but I find this design choice (implement the "model" only into the XML parsing layer) a little bit strange (or maybe I don't understand... ;-) ). We should (or we are supposed to) be able to do in java everything that we can do in XML.
    I would like to find more support/help for the programmatic approach. I have the feeling that you are too focalised on "use-our-state-of-the-art-tools/wizards-to-write-the-code-for-you" and you forgot that this is not suitable for all projects. E.g. our application creates the user interface according to a layout defined by each user. To generate it, we need to use at maximum the extension mechanism and we can't simply relay on "rendered" attribute etc.
    -When should we expect this new UIX release?
    -What about the UIX controller? The Struts controller will replace it?
    -What about the source code of uixexp2-demo.jar (distributed with ADF_UIX_component_guide)?
    -Why while debugging we can't set a method/class breakpoint on UIX classes (to understand the data flow) - the stack is secret?
    Thanks

  • Prerequisites for oracle adf mobile

    Hi,
    I need to learn oracle adf mobile technology. I know little bit of java. Means I understand java syntax. I have absolutely no experience in web technologies like jsp,jsf etc.. even css I do not know.
    What should be the learning path for me before I actually start reading oracle adf mobile tutorial? I do not even know javascript. What are all the basic stuffs I should know before starting with adf mobile
    Thanks
    Vadiraj

    I'm not sure if your background is sufficient for developing any application. ADF requires you to have at least a good understanding of java. 'A little bit' might not be enough.
    Well, you'll find this out yourself pretty fast.
    the Oracle ADF Mobile homepage Oracle ADF Mobile has three links on the page showing a demo, an overview (which would be my starting point) and a link to the ADF Academy. This last link is designed to help users developing ADF Mobile applications.
    After watching the other videos you can start there. If you don't understand what is going on there you have to deepen your knowledge in this aera first.

    I can see there are total 3 records retrieved. Then I execute query for the view object again and change the last record. But after the commit statement, the database is not update. What's wrong here? Thanks in advance

    Refer 6.4.9 How to Create a New Row for a View Object Instance

  • Reset of current row after commit in ADF-UIX

    Dear experts,
    I have developed an application with Oracle JDeveloper 10g and ADF-UIX using BC4J. The problem is that wherenever a commit is performed the current row for the master table is reset which causes confusion for the end user.
    Do you know how can I solve that problem?
    Thank you in advance,
    Constantine

    ... I forgot to mention that I use JDeveloper 3.1 on Windows NT4.
    About my problem, it seems that a "key" does not exist in the record (Row object) i'm using for.
    So, what really is a "key"? Is this an internal complicated number or just the values of some data fields, indicated as "Primary Key" in the table?
    If the answer is the second one, I have to say that at the really before commit of the record, the value of my primary key fields is NULL, because they are filled up by a "sequence object" created in the database (triggered by a "TRIGGER BEFORE INSERT", which calls the "sequence.nextval" SQL command).
    So, I really have the value of my primary key fields just after committing the record in the database, and would explain everything.
    But is really this the "key"?
    Thanks

  • Running Oracle ADF tutorial example to weblogic server

    Hi all,
    I am following the tutorial at [Developing RIA Web Applications with Oracle ADF|http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/obe/jdev/obe11jdev/ps1/ria_application/developriaapplication_long.htm] . However, I did something new here. I deployed the finished sample to weblogic admin server, and it went fine. But when I tried to access the page DeptEmpPage.jspx, I got exception:
    oracle.jbo.DMLException: JBO-26061: Error while opening JDBC connection.
    and also
    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01005: null password given; logon denied
    Looks like the user hr was not logged in. I tried to give explicit plaintext password in the file connections.xml as following
    <SecureRefAddr addrType="password">
    <Contents>hr</Contents>
    </SecureRefAddr>
    , but this also did not work.
    Could you please let me know how to make it working? I know for security concerns, we may need to have a log in form to do authentication. But for the quick-fix and pedagogic purpose, could anyone here please help?
    Many thanks.

    Dou you need to change the bc4j.xcfg content to reference the JNDI connection created in the deployment. Note that the deployed EAR creates a HrDS JDBC connnection with the credentials and Security user and associations, see the JNDI url in your app, for example, for "jdbc/HrDSDS", the entry to be added to the config file must be <Custom JDBCDataSource="java:comp/env/jdbc/HrDSDS"/>
    <?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'UTF-8'?>

  • Oracle ADF - Commit operation issue.

    Hi,
    I am new to Oracle ADF. I am using Oracle jDeveloper 11.1.1.4.0
    and facing problem when I try to save a new record from within application.
    I have called a action on commit button and used auto generated code, here is the it -
    BindingContainer bindings = getBindings();
    OperationBinding operationBinding = bindings.getOperationBinding("Commit");
    Object result = operationBinding.execute();
    if (!operationBinding.getErrors().isEmpty()) {
    return null;
    I read that after execute statement framework calls doDML(int operation, TransactionEvent e) method in EOImpl and there we do insert/update/delete...etc,
    But when I debug my application it doesn't. Please correct me if I am wrong.
    Unable to understand what exactly the problem is?
    Appreciate your help.
    Thanks in advance.
    Madhav.

    Hi,
    Yes, I do have a break point in doDML() of EOImpl.java
    Also I have another break point in bean before it calls the EOImpl's doDML().
    I'll show you the action method in bean which get's call on click of commit button in .jspx,
        public String commitAction() {
            BindingContainer bindings = getBindings();
            OperationBinding operationBinding = bindings.getOperationBinding("Commit");
            Object result = operationBinding.execute();
            if (!operationBinding.getErrors().isEmpty()) {
                return null;
            return null;
        }In this method I put a break point at
    Object result = operationBinding.execute();from here control doesn't go to EOImpl class.
    Here is the .jspx code for commit button,
    <af:commandButton   text="Commit"
                                    disabled="#{!bindings.Commit.enabled}"
                                    id="cb1"
                                    action="#{CustomerProfileBean.commitAction}"/>Can I use both action and actionListener properties for same command button?
    Is this technically correct?
    Thanks,
    Madhav.

  • Programm change in Oracle ADF database connection

    Hello!
    Our company uses an application implemented in Oracle Forms. We have about 2500 users. Each user works with a database using Oracle c your login / password.
    We want to migrate to Oracle ADF. But the concept of Oracle ADF - under a single user connection.
    But the position of the database administrators - do not use OracleInternetDirectory (LDAP), does not create users in WebLogic. :(
    In our company, users are created in the database Oracle. Users are database role.
    Our idea is to send in an application ADF user name and password. Safety is solved at the database level.
    Can I do this:
    1. When the application starts to change the ADF database connection to a user username / password?
    2. Can there be problems in the future?
    3. Are there any examples?
    Please help

    Hi,
    You can create a custom authentication provider in WLS that uses a JAAS Login Module that attempts to connect to the database for authentication pupose. The application itself would run with a JDBC Data Source, so that you only use the database account to authenticate the user and get his/her database roles as authorization groups. I have a sample for this on my to-do list but so far hadn't the time to get to it. So yes, you don't need OID or LDAp to manage users but could keep going using the database
