Oracle Application Server administration certification info

Hi guys,
Since Oracle is is now promoting Web Logic Server I am wondering if its still worth following the Oracle Application Server 10g Administration certification (OCA and OCP)? What are the future plans of Oracle for Oracle Application Server?
Many thanks.
Omer

Ok.. great.. Weblogic is in for sure.. but what is the fate of Oracle Application Sever ? Are they gonna coexist? or Application sever gonna be obsolete in future?
Many thanks
Omer

    Hi Shaan,
I would like to learn Oracle Application Server AdministrationFirst, understand that it can be very complex as 10gAS is incredibly robust with loads of flexible features to learn. In some ways, it's got more complexity than the database.
    You can download it here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/index.html
There are several good book to learn from:

Here is the Oracle Press book: Oracle 10g Application Server Administration Handbook:

    I co-wrote it, and I focus on how to use 10gAS in the real-world. . . .

    Answers to your questions
    1. I tried reinstalling OAS 10g today.
I did not enter the host name and/or domain name during installation, as it took both Automatically.
I see in config files the host name configured as - myhost.mydomain.com
where actual host name = myhost
    and domain name = mydomain.com
I did give the domain name while giving the Global database name as
    sid.mydomain.com
    2. SSO server login is working.I'm able to login with "orcladmin" user, for url

  • Oracle Application Server 10g Cloning

    Hi All,
Could anyone please advice on How we can create a cloned copy of 10g AS(including infra DB) for DR purpose.Any document or guideline will be highly appreciated.
    Regards,

    Hi,
    </p>
Please correct me if I am wrong, but I think cloning is fine to copy or clone a middle-tier instance. But for a copy of infrastructure DB one needs to use the chapter next to the referred one.

    </p>
The term cloning is commonly used for copying the systems but in Oracle AS, it is for copying the middle-tier instances only. That difference is often misleading.

  • Oracle Application Server 10g Cloning - Urgent

    Hello All,
I have been given a new assignment which involves Oracle Applications server 10g, i am new to oracle application server and hoping that some one will please clarify my doubts.
i have to clone a production machine (Solaris 10) which has oracle AS 10g, this machine had oracle database 10g before and just the application server was installed on it, i have to clone a test environment for this machine, i have the following two doubts
    1) Is it possible to just install Oracle Application server 10g on a machine which already contains oracle 10g database, if so then what about the database that gets installed when installing Oracle application server 10g.
    2) How to clone the above production machine, should the oracle 10g database be cloned first and then oracle application server 10g cloned on the new machine?
    Eagerly waiting for a reply

    2) How to clone the above production machine, should the oracle 10g database be cloned first and then oracle application server 10g cloned on the new machine?1) Yes, it is possible. The DB that comes with OAS as the infrastructure DB for it (I presume you are installing a full OAS with infrastructure and midtier both) does not affect the DB you already have on your system ... obviously ... as long as you install them in their separate homes.
    2) I always say, this term cloning is somewhat loosely used in general communication meaning making copies. In OAS context, Cloning works for middletiers only. You cannot clone an infrastructure.
To make a redundant/alternate environment for OAS, you can do the following:
    - a) either use the same infra on machine 1, and install another midtier and register with the same infra.
    - b) or install a separate infra on machine 2, and also a midtier registered with it.
Here for the first option a), Cloning can be used because you can (*only*) clone a middle-tier. There are pros and cons for this setup, including that you share the SSO, and OID, and hence users and groups bases, etc on those two environments - something that you may or may not want. But then there are also some way-outs to avoid them or minimize their effects too. Please see the following reference for cloning and search on Metalink for how to minimize effects, once you get better familiar with the processes.

There are some notes on Metalink which address issues about benefits or procedures of Cloning and Staging an environment too.
There are some other ways to export/transport your applications to another instance across DB. Please also read about them.
    hope that helps!

  • Oracle Application Server 10g R2: Administration I

Can anyone comment on this class?
    http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/show_desc.redirect?dc=D18771
We probably should have someone on staff that understands the install & maintenance of the Application Server. I presume that just because we got an instance up and running doesn't mean there's nothing left to do, ever...correct?
    Thank you.

    Absolutely.
Oracle Application server is a sophiscated software that requires a good administrator to handle instances after creation. Day to day support and maintenance, troubleshooting, deploying new applications that are served by the application server, backup and recovery, clustering, upgradation, migration, cloning are all required.
So defenetly yes, there needs to be a dedicated resource for maintaining the Application Server. Typically this is a job function of "Oracle Apps DBA"

  • [JPA] Logging in Oracle Application Server

    Hi,
I have a problem that the logging of SQL statements is lost in an application deployed in OAS 10.1.3.1.
I have set the following property in persistence.xml:
<property name="toplink.logging.level" value="FINER"/>In Java SE and in the standalone OC4J, the SQL is printed in the console window. However, when deployed in the Oracle Application Server, the SQL statements are lost. They are not in the standard server's log file in $ORACLE_HOME/opmn/logs/ default_group~home~default_group~1.log where the rest of the log data can be found.
Can anybody tell me if there's anything special about JPA logging in OAS?
We currently use TopLink Essentials v2.0-b58g (RC8) but we have also tried with other versions and there's no SQL info in the log.
    Best regards,
    Bisser

    Thank you very much!
I tried that option too. Sadly, it didn't work.
Now I have the following in persistence.xml:
        <property name="toplink.logging.level" value="FINEST"/>
<property name="toplink.logging.level.sql" value="FINEST"/>I re-deployed the application. I even restarted the server. But nope, nothing helped. TopLink Essentials doesn't print to the standard console log and I don't know if it prints anywhere at all (and if it does, where?).
Through the server's administration console, I can see the following in the "Logger configuration":
    oracle.toplink.essentials.session.file:/u01/app/oracle/product/10.1.3.1/OracleAS_1/j2ee/home/applications/asmPreview/asmModel.jar-ASM:  FINEST
        oracle.toplink.essentials.session.file:/u01/app/oracle/product/10.1.3.1/OracleAS_1/j2ee/home/applications/asmPreview/asmModel.jar-ASM.sql:  FINEST
.Previously, the latter was NULL, which meant that it was inheriting from its parent log. But now it's explicitly set to "FINEST" and yet it doesn't print anything.
I wish I could force it to print somehow. That would aid us a lot in the functional testing, when we see strange behavior.

  • Business Publisher in Oracle Application Server

    Hi
I am attempting to deploy BPA Business Publisher (10.1.3.4) to an Oracle 10.1.3.4 Application Server and I have very little in the way of instruction or documentation as to how to undertake this task.
The BPA installation and Administration guides state that using an Oracle Application Server is a supported configuration for the Business Publisher with little or no further information on how to achieve this!
I have managed to deployed and configure, to the best of my current knowledge, the businesspublisher.war along with its required data sources, DAO changes, etc.
I can access the Business Publisher web interface and his shows that no exports currently exist.
I have attempt to add the new Oracle Application Server based Business Publisher Server to my Business Publisher Architect (i.e. but it keeps failing to connect and BPA hangs until I force it to end!)
I can see that the BPA Repository host is establishing a connection with the Business Publisher host on port 17059 (the default port) but nothing else happens.
    [oracle@***]$ netstat -a | grep 17059
    tcp 0 0 *:17059 *:* LISTEN
    tcp 111 0 host.domain:17059 host.domain.:2519 ESTABLISHED
I have undertaken a number of successful installation, deployments and exports from BPA to Business Publisher utilising TomCat on Windows, Linux and SUN but have now been completely stopped on how to undertake this on Oracle Application Server.
Can any one point me in the direction of any documentation or information on how to achieve this task?
    John

    Hi Joseph
    Many thanks for the info.
I had raised an SR in Metalink as well as requesting info here and Metalink gave me a ftp link to the document.
This solved my problems as I needed to undertake the extra configurations in opmn.xml, webappserver.cfg and add a .jar file (these are not shown anywhere in the standard BPA admin or install guides!!)
Once all these done it works like a dream and users state it is faster then a Tom Cat based deployment.
    Cheers
    John

  • Unable Logging in to Oracle Application Express Administration Services

I am new for DB. Installed Oracle XE, followed the instruction "Logging in to Oracle Application Express Administration Services", I can not find the login page:
    http://127.0.0.1:7777/pls/apex/apex_admin
I work on the PC in which XE installed.
    Where are these two files
    ORACLE_BASE\ORACLE_HOME\install\portlist.ini
    ORACLE_BASE\ORACLE_HOME\Apache\Apache\conf\httpd.conf
    I did a search, can't find them.
    Any help welcome.
    Thanks.

The default port for the Apex webserver is 8080, not 7777.
To access the XE Database GUI from the Start menu, select Programs (or All Programs), then Oracle Database 10g Express Edition, and then Go to Database Home Page. (I'm assuming your on Windows)
Or try: http://localhost:8080/apex in your browser.
The files you mention relate to Apache web server. Oracle XE does not include a Apache, it's web server is built into the database. Are you sure you're following the right documentation? See http://www.oracle.com/pls/xe102/homepage

  • How to deploy a web service on Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.0.2?

    Hi everyone,
I followed the instructions of the following link to create a web service using jDeveloper 10.1.3.1.0 on Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.0.2. [http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/obe/jdev/obe1013jdev/10131/devdepandmanagingws/devdepandmanagingws.htm#t1]
The web service created was deployed & used with no errors on the standalone OC4J instance.
But my goal is to deploy my web service on Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.0.2.
So after several attempts, I was able to deploy it on the Oracle Application Server 10.1.2.0.2 but unfortunately I didn't know the URL needed to use the web service.
I tried the following link (http://192.168.0.91:18100/JavaWebService-GetDates-context-root/GetDatesWSSoapHttpPort) but also didn't work :(
I also tried converting to J2EE 1.3 and still not knowing how to access the web service.
    Please advice with a solution.
    Thanks in advance.
    Lana

Thanks everyone for your help :)
The problem turned out to be that Oracle application server 10.1.2 is unlike the others servers, it uses 2 ports:
    - port (19100) is dedicated for the console.
    - port (7779) is to view your applications.
So the URL needed turned out to be "http://acteos-109.beirut.acteos:7779/beanTest" instead of "http://acteos-109.beirut.acteos:18100/beanTest"
    Hope this info is useful

  • Oracle application server 10g help

    Hi,
I need to work on a project that pulls data from the oracle database and should be able to generate reports based on user entered criteria and they want me to use the oracle application server 10g.
(I also need to do manipulations on the data pulled out.)
How do i start and what are the things that i need to install..
If somebody could guide me in a few words, i can pick it up from there...
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Thanks a lot for replying..
This is a simple overview of my project..
Basically i need to convert a client server application which was initially in Access (and coded in VBA) and oracle to oracle based web application.
The application that was built in access has various flaws and hence we decided to rewrite them with lot of new features..
what i would need is several web pages(probably intranet based...) where i pull data from the oracle db, and then do manipulations on them and then based on certain criteria come up with a report based on users needs...
I hope this info is enough to guide me
    Thanks.
