Oracle Applications and HTML-DB

Will it be possible to use HTML DB with the Oracle eBusiness Suite ?
If so, how ?
If not: are there any plans for this ? (or do I have to post an ER :) ?)
cheers, Enno

  • Oracle Apps and HTML DB Integration Problems

    Hi,
I have integrated Oracle Apps and HTML DB, using custom authentication schema so that HTML DB looks for APPS username and password for validation.
Also, i have created menu, responsiblity, functions, custom application etc, so that user can login from Oracle Apps login screen and then select the responsibility which will redirect to HTML DB Applications page.
My problem is, once the user clicks on the Responsbility and the function(which is nothing but HTML DB Page), it is redirecting to login page and i need to re-enter the apps user name and password again to access HTML DB applications.
Is there any way, can i redirect the user directly into my HTML DB application page, without taking him to login page of HTML DB application and also uses the APPS user name and password which he had entered in the Oracle Apps login page.
I need your help on doing the same. Please respond.
    Thanks
    Ram

    Hi Scott,
Thanks for the quick reply. I agree with you in terms of validating the session but I haven't been able to get that to work - one of my earlier posts describes the issues I have experienced:
    Authentication and SSO (non-Oracle)
I suppose my question is - is there a simple way for the APEX app to validate that there is an active Apps session cookie?
In terms of the encrypted password, what I have been trying to do was make use of the FND_WEB_SEC.VALIDATE_LOGIN method which is described in other posts and the Scott Spendolini presentation on integrating apps.
    Thanks,
    Stuart

  • How can we do the data migration between Oracle Applications and SAP R/3.

    Hi All,
How can we do the data migration between Oracle Applications and SAP R/3 system. What are all the possible ways to move bulk data from Oracle Apps to SAP r/3 system.
Provide any 3rd party tools which supports data migration and also pls rpovide the SAP's own data migration tools with supports the above feature.
    Awaiting for best possible solution.
    Thanks in advance.

the 3rd party tool is ETL , you can use ETL tool and the prepare the load files then you can use LSMW method to upload the data to SAP.

  • Oracle applications and xserver

    Oracle apps dbas,
When I tried o view the graphics in workflow manage on OAM, always got the error:
    "BIB-7000 Cannot access X Server".
I found the metalink note: Note:351839.1 to explain the cause.
But still a little bit confused about the Oracle Application and the xserver.
How can I know the xserver is running on which machine?
How can I know that every user can establish a xsession to access the server?
Currently, I set the display on the box to my local computer.
Is there any good documents to explain the xserver mechanism?

  • Difference between Oracle Portal and HTML DB

    Hi folks,
I am thinking about using another oracle tool to generate web reports.
I see two possibilities: Oracle Portal and Html db.
But what are the differences between them? Which one is the best?
Nowadays we're using Oracle Reports, but as it is very expensive, we're are looking for another tool.
    Thank you all,

    Hi Sergio,
    I read the suggested forum.
But to me, it was a little bit confusing.
I don't know these technologies so deeply.
I just want to know, if both (Oracle Portal and HTML DB) can be used to generate simple reports in Web?
As I told you, we are using Oracle Reports which demands Enterprise Edition of IAS. This is very expensive to my company.
So, I need to suggest some other tool to substitute Oracle Reports, so the company will be able to decrease the IAS version to the Standard one.
In your opinion, which is the best tool in terms of generating reports in the web?
Do these two tools genereate pdf reports????
Please, I want to know your opinion about my problem.
    Thank you!!!

  • Comparison between Oracle Forms and HTML DB

Something that has always puzzled me...
What is the difference between Oracle Forms 10g and HTML DB from a functionality perspective?
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/forms/index.html
The underlying architecture, technology used, etc might be different, but from the user's point of view, dont they both do pretty much the same thing?
Why did Oracle take the time & effort to invest in building HTML DB from the ground up (with its mod_plsql, webdb, etc earlier pedigree) instead of just investing in Oracle Forms which has a well-established history, customer base?
    Thanks

This is purely a layman's perspective, but after using Developer Forms 10g intensively for about 9 months, and now just recently getting into HTML DB, my opinion is this:
HTML DB is really really great for 'quick and dirty' forms and reports deployment when there's not a lot of validation to be done. Not to say you can't do any kind of validation, I just personally don't find it intuitively easy to implement after using Developer forms so much. So far doing the layout has been hard for me, as I'm used to the 'drag and drop' aspect of Oracle Forms, but once you have your layout set, it pretty much takes care of resizing itself when your application is viewed on various screen sizes and resolutions.
Developer forms has been, for me, way easier to use to accomplish all the validations I need using PL/SQL (you can use java, too, but I haven't learned enough java yet to do that). However, it's more demanding to deploy. You have your application server to maintain, you have to copy over your forms modules, your menu modules, your library modules, make sure everything is compiled properly so your form doesn't crash when someone navigates from one field to another, etc. Also, from a dynamic layout perspective, it's a little harder to design for various screen sizes, resolutions, etc. The html in HTML DB takes care of that for you.
So basically I'm finding that each technology fills a certain niche better than the other. The fun is in trying which technology fits with which niche.

  • Customised Oracle Application and access to roles - Discoverer 10.1.2.0.2

    Hi Gurus!
We are developing a customised Oracle application where we have users and roles...user - role mapping is done in the system administration module of the application.
Now, we are also developing Oracle discoverer reports based on this. Using 10g (10.1.2.0.2) for that.
When I am creating an EUL, I select 'New EUL for Oracle Applications users only' option, but, I do not have any 'FND schema' to specify. That's where I'm stuck up!
I want to give access to the 'roles' in tha same manner as I would give to the 'responsibilities' in Oracle Apps. But, I don't know how to do it here.
Can someone guide me on this?
    Thanks and regards,
    Aparna

    Hi Aparna
If your application is not E-Business Suite you cannot install Discoverer into Apps mode. This mode is reserved for applications which are E-Business Suite, which basically tells Discoverer to use authenticate users using the FND tables owned by the APPLSYS user.
In your case, even though you appear to be using Oracle applications, because you want to take advantage of your roles you will have to install Discoverer into standard mode. As you are creating your EUL you need to uncheck the box which says grant access to PUBLIC and make this a private EUL. Then you will not have the headache of worrying about setting up new users. You simply manage what a role can do (Tools | Privileges) and what a role has access to (Tools | Security).
Now, when any any user connects to Discoverer their role will be evaluated and access will be restricted.
You can do the same thing using a PUBLIC EUL, except you need to reduce what that user can do (Tools | Privileges) to an absolute minimum, and then take control of this using roles. For example, you could have a set of functional roles, one each for say AP, AR, GL and so on, but you could further break this down by privilege, thus you could have roles called AP Viewer, AP User, AR Viewer, AR User and so on. The User roles would have full access while the Viewer roles would have a much reduced set of privileges.
You are basically setting up the Library approach that I discuss in my Discoverer 10g Handbook and in my white paper which you will find on my downloads page here: http://learndiscoverer.com/downloads/downloads.htm.
    I hope this helps

    Hi Aparna
It would appear that you posted the same question on the Discoverer forum. Here is the answer that I posted there:

  • Oracle applications and C#

    Hi Gurus,
Iam building an application in C# which connects to oracle apps DB and does some operations. My concern is that
the application works fine with apps user since it access the apps table. But i dont want to use apps user.
In a typical production scenario, nobody will give apps user and pwd, so the application cannot be used in
    the production.
Is there a work around for this ?
    Thanks,
    Sathish

    Hi Srini,
    Thanks for the reply.
I could think of that, but again it is cumbersome to give access to all tables and API's that iam using. And i never know what are the tables in turn the API's access.
So obviously we need to provide ALL access to apps tables for the custom account which is not possible in the production.
Is there anyway we can initialize the apps ?? or any API available?
    Thanks,
    Sathish

  • Pre-configured Linux with Oracle DB and Applications

Does anyone know if there is a pre-configured oracle-linux stack out there that would have all the components already configured. I have seen this for other products such as sugarCRM. Its really nice to have this, since it takes the complexity and installation time out of the equation, especially if you are just trying to test or demo the software. I imagine a PeopleSoft Oracle Linux Stack, as well as one for each of the Oracle Application and Software Suites. If not, i guess i will go the more fun route of downloading and installing each package individually.

There is package, named oracle-validated. it verifies and sets system parameters based on Oracle validated configuration recommendations for Oracle Enterprise Linux Release 4.

  • Need free Oracle Applications 11i technical Tutorials

    Hi All,
I've been learning Oracle Application (technical) and need some pointers from you regarding Technical Tutorials.
I've gone through some of the basic tutorials of Oracle Applications and now looking for websites/resources for techical tutorials which can be practiced on Oracle 11i Demo( vision) instance.
Please let me know the resources/pdfs/links where these concepts are explained in a sequential manner as I'm already confused with what to read and what not to read after surfing the net. At the same time, some of the tutorials I found on internet are for Functional training and this created further confusion as I couldn't distinguish between functional & Technical material.
It is not my intend to get hold of every thing, but want to have a fair understanding of Apps & an opportunity to explore/learn other things when I work on projects. So, looking for a course material of 30 - 80 hrs. duration. ( Am I too selective? :) )
Last but not least, I don't have Metalink account and hence need resouces which are free of cost.
Request you all to help me and find me the right resources!
    Many Thanks,
    MK

  • Oracle Help and Advice

    Hi All
I have just read this. My employer has just implemented Oracle but I was not included in the implementation. I really would like to learn this, off my own back so I can get a better job, or get involved with Phase 2 or Phase 3, as I will have some experience. I think I just want to get involved really because I like that kind of work and would to further myself. I am only young, but would like to get a career.
Anyway, I have seen a post on this forum. Can you get a version of Oracle on which I can load on my desktop, it is very powerful desktop, so I can learn it. If so, where can I get a copy, where and what do I have to download, and is it easy ?
I want to learn the financials part mostly as that is all my employer is installing.
Any help would be very gratefully received.
Thanks for your time reading this post
