  • Error Running Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time

    Hello,
We are having trouble running Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time on certain user's machines. Here are the specifics:
The user opens Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer. The user then opens Discoverer in another Internet Explorer windows and receives the following error: Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe abnormal program termination
As a work around, I installed Firefox on those user's machines. These users run Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer and run Discoverer in FireFox. This has solved the problem in 99% of the cases. However, there is one user who is having FireFox using Discoverer freeze when running Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer.
Can anyone provide any insight on how I can solve these conflict issues so users can run Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time?
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Carlos

    Hi Michael,
I agree with you completely. It is reccommended to run 10g on a separate physical server unless you have sufficient resources to run on the same server (which even most large clients do not) Even then, I would recommend a separate server.
I should have put my comment in context :-)
a.) I was only stating that it was possible
    and
b.) whether 10g is installed on the same physical server or separate should not affect the client browser crashing issue that was posted.
I do have an install with EBS11i and Discoverer 10g on the same physical server and it works fine (this is sandbox/ TEST). Most of my large customers have 10g installed on multiple physical servers due to load balancing (capacity).
I do work for Oracle. I try to help out on the forum when I can, but it is hit or miss :-(
I would be glad to discuss anything privately.
As for the issue at hand, I can reproduce the problem and here is what is occuring.
I have EBS 11i configured with Jiniator 1.3.24
I have Discoverer 10g configured with Sun Java plugin 1.4.2_06
    1. If you launch EBS 11i apps and a form with MS IE, then the browser launches the form using Jiniator JRE 1.3.xx (whatever you have configured in AutoConfig for EBS11i)
    2. Next, the user navigates to EBS 11i SSWA and launches a Discoverer workbook.
What occurs is a child IEXPLORE.exe process is spawned from the parent IEXPLORE.exe process and Discoveer Plus is launched. The parent iexplore.exe process will be attached to the Jiniator JVM. Now if Discoverer is configured with
    a.) Sun Java Plugin or
b.)a version of Jinitiator that is a different version from what EBS 11i is configured with
then you may get this conflict.
It really is an MS IE/JRE conflict with Jinitiator and Sun Java Plugi and the way the broswers attaches to the JVM (IMHO) as this behaviour could be reproduced with other non-oracle java applets.
You can workaround the situation by:
    a. configure EBS11i and Discoverer to use the same version of Jiniator 1.3.xx
    b. educate the users to open one MS IE browser to connect to EBS11i and then open a second MS IE browser to login to EBS11i SSWA or Discoverer 10g Plus directly to launch workbooks. They need to to this by clicking on the icon and not using File >> New browser. Clicking on the icon will spawn a new parent iexplore.exe process that can attach to a second/different JVM. File >> New Window will spawan a child of the parent.
    c. As you did use two browser versions. MS IE for EBS11 connection and FireFox for Disocverer 10g connection.
I would choose optoin b, so that you can use Sun Java Plugin with Discoverer.
Open to any comments. I hope that helps you workaround the problem. The ideal solution is to have EBS 11i use/cerified with the 1.4 or 1.5 JRE. In poking around, I see there is a related post to this on one of Oracle's EBS 11i Product Managers Blog.

  • Oracle Apps and HTML DB Integration Problems

    Hi,
I have integrated Oracle Apps and HTML DB, using custom authentication schema so that HTML DB looks for APPS username and password for validation.
Also, i have created menu, responsiblity, functions, custom application etc, so that user can login from Oracle Apps login screen and then select the responsibility which will redirect to HTML DB Applications page.
My problem is, once the user clicks on the Responsbility and the function(which is nothing but HTML DB Page), it is redirecting to login page and i need to re-enter the apps user name and password again to access HTML DB applications.
Is there any way, can i redirect the user directly into my HTML DB application page, without taking him to login page of HTML DB application and also uses the APPS user name and password which he had entered in the Oracle Apps login page.
I need your help on doing the same. Please respond.
    Thanks
    Ram

    Hi Scott,
Thanks for the quick reply. I agree with you in terms of validating the session but I haven't been able to get that to work - one of my earlier posts describes the issues I have experienced:
    Authentication and SSO (non-Oracle)
I suppose my question is - is there a simple way for the APEX app to validate that there is an active Apps session cookie?
In terms of the encrypted password, what I have been trying to do was make use of the FND_WEB_SEC.VALIDATE_LOGIN method which is described in other posts and the Scott Spendolini presentation on integrating apps.
    Thanks,
    Stuart

  • What is Oracle Apps and Oracle Financials and Oracle 11i.

    Hi All,
right now I am working on Oracle PL/SQL stored procedures (Version 8) wants to learn/shift to Oracle Apps. Dont know actually what is what and what are the Differences between Oracle Apps and Oracle Financials and Oracle 11i
Can any one brief me about those.
    Thanks in Advance

What exactly are you intending to do to Oracle Apps ? You suggest you are a developer, but Oracle Apps are already developed, by Oracle. Do you want to develop peripheral applications, or become an administrator, or what ?

  • Oracle App. DBA:Query

    Hi Experts,
I'm a Oracle DBA, however i wanted to know what is the work of oracle application administrator. Can onyone suggests me what in oracle app. i should learn.
    Thanks
    Shaan

Can onyone suggests me what in oracle app. i should learn. An Oracle Applications DBA is very different from a regular Oracle database administrator and requires specialized skills in business administration and Oracle application server architectures. The Oracle Applications DBA job role is less compartmentalized than a traditional Oracle DBA and the Oracle Applications DBA must also have skills in these areas:
    - Database Design - Many shops require customized functional extensions and reporting data marts and the Oracle Applications DBA must have outstanding Database design skills.
    - Oracle Application Server - The Oracle Applications DBA must understand the internals of the Oracle concurrent manager and understand how to monitor and tune Oracle Applications.
    - Functional Expertise - Many shops requires a business degree and a general understanding of the Oracle Applications module. For example, accountants are widely used to support Oracle eBusiness Suite (Oracle Financials), and accountants with an IT background are easily trained in Oracle Applications DBA support.
    I have more notes here:
    http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_how_to_become_oracle_applications_dba.htm
    Hope this helps. . .

  • Oracle Apps and JDeveloper

I'm evaluating using JDeveloper as the tool with which my Company will develop new Business Applications that primarily source data from our Oracle Applications database (Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Financials).
    Is JDeveloper recommended for this?
What are the integration implications with respect to using Oracle Applications' middle and database tiers?

    Hi,
Though your query has been answered, still I want to add few things here
For every release of Oracle Apps there is a different patch in R11 also there are many patches available suppose you are using 11.5.10 CU2 then patch will be different and will be specific to this release or if you are using 11.5.10 RUP5 or 7 or any other Roll ups it will be having different patches to work with a particular apps version you must download the correct version of patch.
same is true for R12 also, with the releases Patch will change everyone should use the correct patch for OAF.
There are two type of Jdevelopers one is simple Jdeveloper which can not be used for OAF development, another one is JDeveloper with OA Extension. Jdeveloper with OAExtension is available in form of Patch and we should use those only to avoid any problem during development.

  • Oracle apps and crm

has anyone integrated Oracle apps with microsoft crm ? -- am planning to go to a microsoft seminar on this topic,
    http://www.tectura.com/Registration/CRMSeries/
but would rather save the time if anyone has done it before and can share some thoughts on this

Loaded question - what is the best o/s.
There is no single best o/s. Even Windows can do the job.. (not a statement I like to make make, but true none the less).
There are advantages and disadvantages with each o/s. The choice of which one to use if very seldom make on o/s versus o/s comparison,
The choice needs to include numerous other factors for considerations. Hardware platform strategy. Small or medium range servers? Large superdome type servers? Clusters of servers? The existing environment and what is the best fit for that environment (skills, experience, learning curves, etc). Cost of purchasing, cost of maintenance, types of SLAs, which SLA suits the company's requirements the best. Etc. Etc.
If it is a blank slate decision - where there are none of these factors play any role (very unlikely), then I would say use Linux Red Hat and Intel/AMD servers from a well established manufacturer, like Sun.
My reasons would be around what I believe to be the ease and flexibility of administrating and maintaining Red Hat Linux on AMD Sun servers in a variety of environments, off-site and on-site, across different networks.. Based on personal experience of running 70+ servers and using a local and dedicated Red Hat Satellite server.
Mileage may vary of course. :-)

  • Script to Determine Users Connected to Oracle Apps and For Imitating Users

I found this great script (Note:430948.1 on Metalink) to track users connected to the E-Business Suite.
My colleague though noticed that users who had shut their browsers without logging off or those users who had 'timed out of their session' would still come back in the report.
He wanted an accurate measure of who was in fact using the e-Business suite.
We took the original query and added the last line (below). It basically takes the ‘last connect’ time and adds 60 minutes to it to figure out who is ‘validly’ still connected.
    select distinct ic.disabled_flag, fu.user_name User_Name,fr.RESPONSIBILITY_KEY Responsibility, fu.user_name,fu.user_id, fu.description, fu.employee_id,
    ic.responsibility_application_id, ic.responsibility_id, ic.org_id, ic.function_type, ic.counter, ic.first_connect, ic.last_connect,
    ic.nls_territory, ic.time_out, fr.menu_id, fr.responsibility_key
    from apps_fnd.fnd_user fu,
    apps_fnd.fnd_responsibility fr, apps_fnd.icx_sessions ic
    where fu.user_id = ic.user_id AND
    fr.responsibility_id = ic.responsibility_id AND
    ic.disabled_flag='N' AND
    ic.responsibility_id is not null AND
    ic.last_connect > sysdate - (ic.time_out/60)/96
Can anybody see any issues with this query? or a better way to do this?
It looks like Oracle runs a clean up script to wipe out sessions after a certain amount of time so they are no longer active sessions - so this works around that.

  • Can Oracle set up Oracle Apps and open to public?

Some software packages are just too big or time-consuming to set up and play with. Some are not accessible to users without proper license. Oracle Applications have both of these properties. If Oracle can set up a test site anywhere and give non-sysadmin access to the OTN members, we can benefit by getting familiar with new features or some of the settings done by real experts, or refreshing memory if we haven't used it for a while. Ideally, also give UNIX/Linux shell access to us. HP/Compaq has Oracle test drive (www.testdrive.hp.com). But wouldn't it be better if Oracle does it?

First it sets some environment variables in the shell.
Then it removes a log file.
Then it uses an obsolete tool to export some data.
Then it displays the contents of the log file.
Then it changes the present working directory.
Then it lists the files in the directory.
Then, presumably, it emails a copy of the log file somewhere.
In 10gR2 I would suggest throwing it away and using a proper tool to do the job such as RMAN or DataPump.
Additionally find someone to teach you how to navigate and perform basic tasks in Linux. This may help.
    http://www.psoug.org/reference/unix_vi.html
as might Arup Nanda's excellent tutorial here:

Who do you think you are kidding? That code couldn't possibly run without errors.
The first thing you need to do is learn how to connect to an Oracle database using Java on your pc. Then you can start branching out.
Review the JDBC Developer Guide for how to connect to Oracle databases using Java.

  • Tuning Oracle APPS 11i Start with

    Hi Hussain/Helios,
I am new to Oracle APPS, and am working oracle apps 11i 11.5.10.2 with 10.2.5.0, the database and application was upgraded by previous dba. which left almost 3-4 months before.
now my question is i want to have a performance tuning for Oracle apps environment, can you please suggest some key points for starting with and some good links for future usage.
Other thing is i have used find command on my linux box and found many log files which are greater than 1000K on apps tier (forms/reports/web), and similiarly db tier (db/admin/concurrent).
can i just remove all these logfiles using os (rm) command and is it feasible with production environment on running mode or is it not feasible and i should use some other ways/etc.

1). Compile APPS Schema in maintenace which i will take.
2). I have checked some Gather Stats/Purge jobs are already scheduled for maintenance.
Please tell me what other Jobs i can schedule using OAM for weekend for All tiers in APPS.
I have been also asked to apply latest patches on PROD APPS/DB/* system, I can check using sql, which patches are applied, but how can i know which patches are required, (don't know about the licensed products with never ask policy here).
    Thanks,
    RAJ

can you please suggest some key points for starting with and some good links for future usage. Please check below MOS doc:-
A Holistic Approach to Performance Tuning Oracle Applications Systems [ID 69565.1]
Configuring various JVM tuning parameters for Oracle E-Business suite 11i and R12 [ID 567551.1]
Tuning is something that require more analysis less action, first you need to answer:-
    1) Why do you need tuning? is it proactive or some incident happend?
    2) Where are you facing issues? i.e. which module, form, report or whole application.
    3) Number of users facing issues? i.e. is it single user, user at one location or all users.
    4) Has something changed in past that might have triggered this need?
Theri are various components involved in tuning that start from :-
    1) user machine
    2) network
    3) Application tier.
    4) Database tier.
Application tier can be further divided into:-
    1) Apache server(JVM, modplsql, jserv etc etc
    2) Form Server
    3) Concurrent processing server
    4) Discovered if using,
    5) XML publisher..
and like wise other component using.
If you are looking to tune then i believe start from application tier first, pick one by one componets, like if your users are facing issues with login then use note that i have provided, if users are not satisifed with time taken to complete concurrent request then you might have to tune it and likewise.
can i just remove all these logfiles using os (rm) command and is it feasible with production environment on running mode or is it not feasible and i should use some other ways/etc.Do not rm files because it might be in use by some process and ti might then not be able to release space, its better to trim the file. do cat file >
Log file you have mentioned can be removed depedning upon your company policy if any.
    Thanks,
    JD

  • Load Balancing & Fault tolerance in Oracle Apps

    Hello
I am pretty new to Oracle Apps and Oracle 9iAS
We are trying to asked to find out the ways of deplying load balancing and fault tolerance in Oracle Apps
I have gone thru the following articles of metalink and some more from google
Configuring Web Cache as a Load Balancer for Application Servers
Create new middle tier node in existing Apps 11i environment using cloning and then load balance
Integrating and using Web Cache with Forms 9i for Load Balancing
Running Multiple OC4J Instances From a Single Install of 9iAS 1.0.2.2
LOAD BALANCING ORACLE APPLICATIONS ON UNIX
    Load Balancing in 11i
    OC4J Clustering Setup
OC4J Load Balancing for Forms 9i
Setting up 11i E-Business suite using a hardware load balancer
Sharing an APPL_TOP in Oracle Applications 11i
In Oracle Apps Concepts pdf, found that
Load balancing occurs when there are multiple installations of web server, forms server, reports server, concurrent manager server etc
Lets consider forms server component of middle tier
Can there be multiple INSTANCES of forms server within SINGLE INSTALLATION ???
If it has to be MULTIPLE INSTALLATIONS, then it will require multiple physical machines
What is software load balancing then ???
    Also read that
Oracle 9i AS instance is combition of Oracle HTTP Server (OHS) and one or more instances of Oracle9iAS Container for J2EE (OC4J)
Thus software load balancing can be implemented for Web server component of middle tier using multiple instances of OC4J ???
Forms metrix server configuration is hardware load balancing ??
What about Oracle9iAS Web Cache clustering ??
Please clarify the doubts and suggest me the way
    Thanks a lot

    dear all can any one help me on the following;
We want to install Oracle Apps 11.5.9 on 4 IBM AIX 5L boxes, the first node
will hold the database , concurrent and Admin Tiers. as for the other 3 nodes
it will hold the Forms/Web Tiers and we need to use forms metrics for load
balancing taking into consideration that we can't use Shared APPL_TOP. we tried
to find the way how to install and configure this solution but all the
documents are talking aboout the concept only and this concept is applicable.
We need the exact steps on how do the installation either using rapidwiz or any
    thing else
