Oracle APPS Doubt?

Dear All,
I am an working in Oracle Forms and Reports for the past 3 years and I want to move to Oracle APPS.
Can anyone guide me where can I find Material to learn Oracle APPS both in Technical and Functional Domains, as I found all the jobs in Oracle APPS require expertise in both Functional and Technical domains.
Appreciate any help.
Thanks & Regards
Madhu K.

Unfortunately, Oracle Forums is reaching its end of life. The newest release of Oracle Applications is R12. Personally, I found Oracle Applications difficult to work with, very buggy, and chatty like Forms.
You can get all the info you require from the link below. I'm sure that you have an Oracle Account. There's no requirements to register for one.

  • Oracle Apps - 9iAS : Basic doubts

    Hello,
I am new to Oracle Apps and 9iAS
I have few basic doubts regarding the integration of these
    Can anybody please clarify...
The middle tier of Orcale Apps is the 9iAS Application Server.
Read that Oracle9i AS Components are :
    - J2EE and Internet Applications (sub-components are Oracle HTTP Server, OC4J, Web services etc)
    - Portals
    - Wireless
    - Web cache
    - Business Intelligence
    - E-Business Integration
Read that middle tier of Oracle Apps has following servers
    - Web server
    - Forms server
    - Concurrent Processing server
    - Reports server
    - Discoverer server (optional)
    - Admin server
So, all the components of 9iAS are installed with Oracle Apps ?
If only some, then which are those ?
Where do Concurrent Processing server, Reports server etc come from as these are not the components of 9iAS ?
Are these very specific to Oracle Apps only ?
As the core database administration knowledge is required for Apps administration (for managing database tier), isn't the 9iAS knowledge required (for managing the middle tier) ?
If yes, then upto what level ?
Knowing about Oracle HTTP Server, Apache server, Web cache, OC4J etc etc is required ?
Please suggest some links / documents related to all these ?
I found a couple of them on metalink & OTN, but not very useful !
    Thanks

9iAS consist of Apache and an Oracle database on the middle tier.
The other components come from the developer suite.

  • Application Server and Oracle Apps - basic doubts

    Hello
I am pretty new to Oracle 9iAS and Oracle Apps 11i
    Please clarify my basic doubts

    - Reports server
    - Discoverer server (optional)

    My doubts are -
    1. When Oracle Apps 11i is installed, Oracle 9iAS becomes the middle tier of it
    Yes / No / Partailly ?
    2. If partially, then only the 'J2EE and Internet Applications' component is installed
    Yes / No / Partially ?
    3. If partially, then Web server (Oracle HTTP Server) and Forms server come from Oracle 9iAS and Report Server, Concurrent Processing server, Admin server etc seperate components only specific to Oracle Apps 11i ?
    Yes / No
Please let me know the answers with the explanation
    Thanks a ton

Oracle Applications 11i uses Oracle 9iASv1 (10222, specifically) as the underlying midtier technology stack. The latest release of 11i (11.5.10), to be released this summer, can leverage specific features of Oracle AS 10g (904), namely SSO authentication and OID user management, Portal, and Discoverer. This capability will be backported to 11i releases 11.5.8 and 11.5.9, and is currently available now to limited customers through the Early Adopter program. When installed in this configuration, there is a 9iASv1 tech stack installed as part of the 11i installation, and a separate AS 10g installed for SSO, OID, Portal, Discoverer, and any other AS products the customer may be using. Aside from SSO, OID, Portal, and Disco, 11i does not yet run on other components of 9iAS or 10g (e.g., OC4J). Applications plans to move to 10g as the underlying tech stack in a future release.

Please help me in this regardWhat all you have studied is basics. And in the institutes they only teach you 5% of actual work, Yes only 5%. They can not teach the whole 5 years learning just in few classes.
In real time When you are working as a technical consultant, you get to speak to functional consultants a lot of time for developing reports, customization, creating custom forms.... So thats why the interviewer has asked a mixture of both technical and functional.
The questions they asked also depends on the number of years experience you have in the resume ;).
How ever you can gain more knowledge from blogs and forums like this.
I will point you to few of them
Your first step should be reading all the documents related to technical filed from the following link.
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B53825_08/current/html/docset.html
Then read atleast 10 to 15 real time issues related to your field from forums like this.
and read posts from oracle apps technical gurus like Anil Passi,
    http://oracle.anilpassi.com/basic-concepts-list-of-useful-oracle-apps-articles-2.html
and links to all the technical blogs can be found at

Best of luck and you will get a job soon.

  • Load Balancing & Fault tolerance in Oracle Apps

    Hello
I am pretty new to Oracle Apps and Oracle 9iAS
We are trying to asked to find out the ways of deplying load balancing and fault tolerance in Oracle Apps
I have gone thru the following articles of metalink and some more from google
Configuring Web Cache as a Load Balancer for Application Servers
Create new middle tier node in existing Apps 11i environment using cloning and then load balance
Integrating and using Web Cache with Forms 9i for Load Balancing
Running Multiple OC4J Instances From a Single Install of 9iAS 1.0.2.2
LOAD BALANCING ORACLE APPLICATIONS ON UNIX
    Load Balancing in 11i
    OC4J Clustering Setup
OC4J Load Balancing for Forms 9i
Setting up 11i E-Business suite using a hardware load balancer
Sharing an APPL_TOP in Oracle Applications 11i
In Oracle Apps Concepts pdf, found that
Load balancing occurs when there are multiple installations of web server, forms server, reports server, concurrent manager server etc
Lets consider forms server component of middle tier
Can there be multiple INSTANCES of forms server within SINGLE INSTALLATION ???
If it has to be MULTIPLE INSTALLATIONS, then it will require multiple physical machines
What is software load balancing then ???
    Also read that
Oracle 9i AS instance is combition of Oracle HTTP Server (OHS) and one or more instances of Oracle9iAS Container for J2EE (OC4J)
Thus software load balancing can be implemented for Web server component of middle tier using multiple instances of OC4J ???
Forms metrix server configuration is hardware load balancing ??
What about Oracle9iAS Web Cache clustering ??
Please clarify the doubts and suggest me the way
    Thanks a lot

    dear all can any one help me on the following;
We want to install Oracle Apps 11.5.9 on 4 IBM AIX 5L boxes, the first node
will hold the database , concurrent and Admin Tiers. as for the other 3 nodes
it will hold the Forms/Web Tiers and we need to use forms metrics for load
balancing taking into consideration that we can't use Shared APPL_TOP. we tried
to find the way how to install and configure this solution but all the
documents are talking aboout the concept only and this concept is applicable.
We need the exact steps on how do the installation either using rapidwiz or any

  • How to deploy ADF applications in Oracle apps

    Hi,
I just gone thru demos on ADF rich client applications using jdeveloper 11g.My doubt is how to deploy and use these from oracle apps.Is ADF supported in R12.If yes then could anybody provide me steps to deploy code at unix file system and how to create form functions for accessing jspx pages?
I know that in OAF, we can deploy server components at $OA_java and PG.xml files using xml importer and we can create form functions for PG.xml files.Similarly what are the steps to deploy and access ADF applications thru oracle apps.
    Thanks,
    ashok

ADF Rich Client Components need a newer server than the one that comes with Apps R12.
So what you'll need to do is have a separate WebLogic 10.3 server where you deploy the ADF Rich Client Applications.
You can call them from your Apps by customizing your current apps and adding a button or link that just calls the URL where your ADF apps are.

  • OAF in Oracle apps 11.5.8

    Hi,
Will OAF work in Oracle Apps 11.5.8. In the metalink i found JDeveloper for Oracle Apps 11.5.10.
I am clear that we must download the correct version JDeveloper, But have a doubt that whether OAF pages can be done in Oracle Apps 11.5.8.
Please help me to solve it.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Jegan

    Hi,
As far as i know the OAF compatibility started from 11.5.10 Release onwards only for Oracle Apps

    Hi
    Hi
You said edit the security.conf file , but am having a doubt I directly edit the security.conf file, other wise edit the custom template. please give me the solution.. And a another thing I want to do disallow the following character, using security.con file I have mentioned character below:
    "!^([-_@|#!=A-Za-z0-9/
:.$]){0,255}$" at ARGS_NAMES. don't neglect please give me the solution.
    Regards
    A

    Hi,
I believe you are referring to this Re: Oracle apps database. Did you do the necessary changes and see if this helps?
You will lose the changes you have done to security.conf file when you run AutoConfig next time, so make sure you edit the template (follow the customization standards of AutoConfig).

  • ADF and Oracle Apps

I have heard that OAF is much better for Oracle Apps related work than ADF. Is that true?
Can ADF work with Oracle Apps better than OAF?

Umm ..I would put it this way .. OAF is tightly integrated with Oracle Applications which does not necessarily mean that it is better than ADF.
The entire fusion applications has been built on ADF - so have no doubt that ADF is good to work with Oracle Apps. ADF is going to be the future of interacting with Oracle Apps .. just my 2 pennies :)

  • Oracle.apps.ar.hz.Location.update event still working

    Dear All,
I facing a problem, a even was disabled few months back, but still the even sending work flow mails. i have followed this below metalink document
    Oracle.Apps.Ar.Hz.Location.Update / Oracle.Apps.Ar.Hz.Location.UpdateXXXXXX [ID 352888.1]
As per the Document, i have disabled the event,, now again the same wf mail coming, what might be the reason,, how to stop this WF
    Regards

Edited by: Hameed on Aug 10, 2011 2:57 AM

    Not yet,
i found another Metalink note *Can the event 'oracle.apps.ar.hz.Location.update' be disabled? [ID 315800.1]*.
According to this note, i have disabled this following two subscriptions
    WSH_MAP_LOCATION_REGION_PKG.Rule_Location
hz_crmhk_pkg.update_location_prenow waiting for the Client mail, if the wf is not triggred then no problem otherwise i have log an SR as u said.
more over i have a doubt in that above mentioned metalink note, can u explain me what is TCA information
These functions would not get executed via workflow but the application that uses these will have a way to handle this in the application. Please check with those groups on what >to run in those applications to handle the workflow functions.
It is fine to disable the event or if you do not want to run any of the TCA workflow events then just set the HZ: Execute API Callouts profile option to NO and workflow events will >not be used for when updating TCA information.Regards

  • Changes in webservices while migrating from Oracle App Server to WebLogic

    Dear All,
I am developing webservices for a external users.
    I am new to webservices.
We were using Oracle Application server to deploy the webservices.
The architecture was as mentioned below
    1) A interface class
    2) A Implementation class for the above interface class
Now we are planning to migrate from Oracle application server to Weblogic Application server.
I have few doubts about the migration,
    1) Will there be any difference between Oracle specific WSDL and WSDL created by Weblogic ant build command
    2) As our external parties are referring our SOAP requests ans responses for their implementation, i am concerned about the changes in the SOAP request and response formats. Will there be changes due to application server change?
Oracle app server - Oracle 10g application server version 9.0.4.0
Weblogic appl server - Weblogic application server version 10.3.0.0

Now after creating the WSDL by Weblogic workshop. The previous request XML is not working.
Can someone help soving the below query.
We are in process of upgrading the Oracle 10g application server version 9.0.4.0 to Weblogic application server version 10.3.0.0. In the old application server we were using axis specific jars to create the WSDL for the webservices. There are so many third party applications which are accessing our webservices, so we can not change the wsdl, clients accessiong the webservices and the corresponding formats of request and response xml messages. So we need to deploy the same wsdl and for the same we need to deploy axis on to weblogic 10.3. Can you please help us regarding the same.
    Qns
1 - If we can deploy the axis on to the Weblogic 10.3
2 - Can we use the same WSDL in the Weblogic server too.
3 - If we use the same WSDL, will it help us to keep the client accessing the webservices, the request xml format, response XML format the same as it is with Oracle 10g application server case.
4 - Please share how to deploy axis on to the Weblogic 10.3 application server.
5 - Please share how we can create EARs that can be deployed on the webserver using axis specific jars.
    Thanks and Regards

  • Oracle Apps 11.5.8 Can i Install on Win Xp Machine??

    Dear Gurus!
I am new to ERP? I have few doubts regarding Apps!
Can i Install Oracle Apps 11.5.8 on Windows Xp Machine which runs with 1 GB Ram on a 120 GB sata Hard-disk!!!
I am aware of MKS Tool Kit and Gnome - and now is the above version compatible with Windows XP or i need to stick to Windows 2000 Advanced Server??
    Please advice
    Thanks in Advance
    Ravi

Hi, GNOME, is a graphical envirorment for platforms as Linux and some Unix, but not for Windows. As part of the installation Oracle E-Business Suite on Windows, you have install MKS Toolkit for Unix command emulation on Windows.
As alternative to MKS Toolkit, exist GYGWIN, a free software with same funcionalities as MKST. Review the Metalink note 302859.1.

  • Development Question Pertaining to Discoverer and Oracle Apps

    Hi All,
I have a Disco Development question. First of all I am in an Oracle Apps environment.
Here is my situation. I received a specification to make sure our End User Layer has the capability to create a workbook
which has the following information in it:
    1. Onhand inventory by lot information using the GMF_PERIOD_BALANCES table.
    2. Demand pegging (from the msc_demands table) associated with this onhand inventory.
    3. Accounting cost information (GL_ITEM_CST information).
    4. They also want more detailed item master information information (e.g. catalog descriptive element information and costing category).
Here is a solution to address this:
-Take existing inventory by lot views we have and use the the gmf_period_balances table in lieu of the mtl_onhand_quantity_details table. Within this same
view, add pegging information. This has been implemented in a development environment.
-Take existing costing views (using the component_cost_details table) and replace with the gl_item_cst.
-Take existing view associated with item detail information and make sure all catalog descriptive elements and costing category information have been added.
My next main dilemma for this problem is to address the best way to join these views in the Discoverer end user layer. Here are the approaches I see:
    1. Encapsulate the item detail information with the onhand, period end with pegging view. Next, create a join with the costing view.
pros: In my testing of this, the totalling works with extending item costing (item cost x onhand inventory).
cons: Refresh times and scalability of this solution are concerning (consider a couple of people using this at the same time). Also, there is no nice
way to join these two views (there is a n x m relationship between these two views). For instance, the costing calendar is used in the accounting costing
view, and the general ledger calendar is used in the GMF_PERIOD_BALANCES table.
    2. Abandon a two or three view approach. Create an uber view which encapsulates the onhand quantity, pegging, standard costing and item detail information.
pros: A more simpler end user experience which should then allow for the totalling to work.
cons: Very easy for an end user to obtain a result set which is part of a cartesian product (e.g. multiple general ledger periods are included in this workbook
with multiple costing periods). Doubtful that this workbook would be refreshable.
    3. Fan trap solution which would be some variation of onhand view being joined to an item details folder which is joined to the pegging details updated.
pros: Without too much work, I am able to get this to work, except totaling.
         cons: Totaling.
Please let me know what your thoughts are regarding the best approach.
         Thanks,
         Patrick

    Hi,
Where you have complex joins I would always go for a single view. It keeps Discoverer simple and allows you to concentrate performance effort building the view. Generally you can build in conditions to stop a cartesian product.

    Hello,
I am trying to convert an Oracle Report to XML Publisher, and I am having problems getting lexicals in the Data Template to work.
I raised an SR for this since both related threads in this forum from two years ago were unresolved. Oracle had no answers for me, and told me to ask the question here.
So anyone who has any ideas, please chime in!
Here is a simplified version of the data template, narrowed down to just the use of the lexicals:

FROM dualThus, the concurrent program ends with ERROR, due to java.sql.SQLException: ORA-00904: "CO": invalid identifier
The first two lexicals and their corresponding sql statement are samples directly from the user guide (which is full of errors). The third lexical is the one from ARXAGMW.rdf.xml that I am trying to make work.

By the way, simply adding the quotes around the lexical names in the sql statement doesn't work. That causes the lexical references to be ignored as simple string values:
    SELECT
       '&FLEX_GL_BALANCING_APROMPT' alias_gl_balancing_aprompt
      ,'&FLEX_GL_ACCOUNT_LPROMPT'   alias_gl_account_lprompt
      ,'&ACCT_BAL_LPROMPT'          alias_acct_bal_lprompt
FROM dualI turned on statement-level debugging via xdodebug.cfg and saw how it compiled the lexicals. By replicating the call to apps.fnd_flex_xml_publisher_apis.kff_segments_metadata that I found there, I was able to hack together a workaround for this issue.
Please point me to a better way of doing this if possible, as I had to GRANT EXECUTE on this apps package to my custom code schema. Is there a better lexical/flexfields reference than the XML Publisher documentation?
Here is the call I made in my before-report trigger:
--set ACCT_BAL_LPROMPT flexfield segment metadata lexical
    begin
    apps.fnd_flex_xml_publisher_apis.kff_segments_metadata(
      'FLEX_ACCT_BAL_LPROMPT',
      'SQLGL',
      'GL#',
      101,
      'GL_BALANCING',
      'Y',
      'LEFT_PROMPT',
      c_FLEX_ACCT_BAL_LPROMPT
    end;
