    Hi Owen,
We have experienced the exact identical errors when installing 10g R2 on the same o/s version.
We tested a bypass of that error by clicking continue on the error window and let the install 'complete'.
We then attempted to start an existing 10.1.0.4 instance and the error libkaio.so.1 not found occurred. I then ldd oracle and discovered the /usr/libaio.so.1 was not found. It turns out we downloaded and installed the libaio_64 rpm then executed relink all. The link completed successfully and we were able to start the instance then manually upgrade it to 10.2.0.1.
It's my feeling that the lib file versions (32 vs 64 bit) play a roll in th eerrors occurring during this new install.
We are opening a TAR about the install errors regarding rmem an wmem kernel parameters and the swap space requirements documented and the associated error.

  • Cannot get 10.1.0.3 on linux Itanium to install on RHEL4

I have been trying to get rdbms version 10.1.0.3 for Linux Itanium to install on a new HP rx6600 running RHEL4 and have not had much luck thus far...I have an open SR with metalink but still not much progress...
Initially I had to download the oracle jvm patch for the montecito processor and I installed a patched version of the jre and jdk. This got the installer to continue on a little further but still I cannot get the oui to launch.
Now that we have the patch version of the jre I am running the installer with the -jreLoc parameter and pointing it to the new jre but I am getting the following annoying error.
    oracle@bistand Disk1]$ ./runInstaller -debug -jreLoc $ORACLE_HOME/jre

My tmp dir is writable and I have plently of space and I have tried a workaround to create a newtmp dir and export the variables to use newtmp but still the annoying error persists?
Also I see that when runing the installer with the debug option it is looking for the jar files in the jre location? No idea why this is happeneing...
Has anyone gotten this to work?
    Thanks.

Because I have a 10.1.0.3 database that I need to migrate to new hardware and I want to use oracle dataguard to faciilitate a zero down time migration to ASM and the rdbms versions need to be the same in order to have the ability to use data guard... I plan to upgrade after the database has been migrated.
And your probably thinking why not just upgrade the 10.1.0.3 database first and then migrate? Well I am trying to avoid upgrading the currently installed 10.1.0.3 database because we are reliant on tape backups and do not have a good disk backup/restore solution should something go wrong with the database upgrade...So I was hoping to get the db migrated over first and then do the upgrade of the database on the newer hardware and new storage because with my new hardware I have the ability to do online disk backups which will be more reliable and less risk involved in the event that the upgrade doesn't go so well...
Trust me life would be so easy If I could just install oracle 11G.

  • X86_64 10gR2 install on RHEL4 ES x86_64 fails

After getting the nice new x86_64 10gR2 release, I excitedly unpacked it and ran the installer (after just installing 10gR1 the other day). Everything went along nicely until it failed in linking 'INFO: - Linking liborasdkbase'. Operator error? It seems I had all the prerequisite packages installed. Also, I noticed there was a bin-utils bug noted earlier this year that generated the relocation R_X86_64_PC32 against `_memcpy_mem_ops_method' can not be used' message, but I have no idea if that is relevant here.
Two relevant sections of the installer log file:
    1. First, just above the final failure, I noticed there was a gcc usage error on libsrvm generation:

  • Solution manager 4.0 installation on RHEL4 ES

    Hello,
I have a problem with the Prerequisites Checker of sol man 4.0 on a RHEL 4 ES X86_64:
In the notes, I found that RHEL 4 AS and ES were certified for sol man. But the checks result in a "Condition not met": Unknown distribution.
I tried several content for the /etc/redhat-release:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 4) <-- default one at installation.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4
Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS release 4 <-- can't work of course)
Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 3)
Nothing work. I have check the PAM :
Released Database Version Operating System Version Date Status System Status Comments
    ORACLE 10.1 64-BIT  LINUX REDHAT EL4/X86_64 64BIT  16.12.2005  Released
    ORACLE 10.2 64-BIT  LINUX REDHAT EL4/X86_64 64BIT  31.03.2006  Released
    So, I tried with this:
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 4)
Those releases work well, they are detected as SAP compliant, but I installed an ES version..
    So, what must I do?
    1) Modify /etc/redhat-release to have a conform ES version.
    2) Patch sapinst (which patch /version?)
    3) Install a RHEL4 AS and go forward.
    Thank you

    Hello,
For information, I decided to modify /etc/redhat-release to correspond to AS :
Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4 (Nahant Update 4) ---> Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 4)
All checks but kernel and glibc (I followed notes for latests versions) are OK, even the 20GB swap..
It's installing tonight, we'll see tomorow.
I just had a problem with Oracle installation, during system checks : some kernel options were not set. I'll do that after install as it's tunning..
    Good night (9pm here)

  • What's the better order to install OEM + AS + DB

    Hi everbody.
What's the better order to install on RHEL4 Update2:
    - Enterprise Manager Control Grid (10gR2)
    - Database (10gR2)
    - Application Server (10gR3)
And about the $ORACLE_HOME?? How to? Each instalation have a separate $ORACLE_HOME??
    Tks!

    Rafael,
Save the Grid Control as the last installation. The order of Database and Application Server doesn't matter, however I would personally install the database first.
Please read all Installation Guides' before starting any installations, and follow all pre-requisites stated for RHEL4.
The Installation Guide's states that all products must be installed in separate ORACLE_HOME. As a matter of fact, the Oracle Installer doesn't allow installing any of these products into an existing ORACLE_HOME.

  • Removing an RPM for Oracle Install

    Hi,
I need to know how to remove a specific RPM. I am running Oracle on RHEL 4.
When the Oracle install does the checks it fails on one of the RPM's. Here is what I did:
    [root@vtl-oracle logs]# rpm -qa --queryformat "%{NAME}-%{VERSION}-%{RELEASE} (%{ARCH})\n" | grep elfutils-libelf
    elfutils-libelf-0.97.1-4 (x86_64)
elfutils-libelf-0.97.1-4 (i386) - - I need to remove this one because I am running a 64bit and Oracle Install keeps picking it up.
    elfutils-libelf-devel-0.97.1-4 (x86_64)
when I issue the following command I get the statement:
    [root@vtl-oracle logs]# rpm -e elfutils-libelf-0.97.1-4.i386
    error: Failed dependencies:
libelf.so.1 is needed by (installed) elfutils-0.97.1-4.i386
libelf.so.1(ELFUTILS_1.0) is needed by (installed) elfutils-0.97.1-4.i386
libelf.so.1(ELFUTILS_1.1) is needed by (installed) elfutils-0.97.1-4.i386
I only want the 64 bit ones, not the i386 ones.

If you truly mean swap (and not /tmp), you have to be root to create a new swap partition (or swapfile) and then add it in with swapon -a
Are you sure that you REALLY want to get rid of the elf package? I did an Oracle 10g install on RHEL4 about a month ago, and there were 32-bit libraries that it had to have alongside the 64-bit ones.
You could force the removal, but I don't recommend it, using nodeps or force (I think it's this, haven't tried it in a while).

  • Sessions are not showing in V$session in 10g RAC

    Hi All,
I have 2-node 10gR2 Rac installed on RHEL4. It is up and running fine. And i'm able to connect from clients also(from other machines). My doubt is...If i connect to the RAC database using other clients, a record is showing in v$session. But if if connect to the database from one of the RAC nodes. that record is not showing up in v$session. What might be the reason?
And how can we see, which user has connected from which node in RAC?
    Thanks,
    Praveen.

    Thanks for response...
I checked with the query which you have given and i'm able to see which user has connected from which instance.
    Thanks,
    Praveen

  • Why RAC services doesn't start automatically?

    Hi All,
I have 2-node 10gR2 RAC installed on RHEL4. Whenever i restart the server, the services related to RAC are not starting automatically except VIP related services. Manually i have to start the services using crs_stop and crs_start commands. then, everything will be fine and working. There was no problems or error occurred while installation.
Whenever i restart my node VIP addresses which are in DNS takes about 10-15 mins to resolve, means to show up in ifconfig -a output. Is this related to service not starting automatically?
Can anybody tell me what might be the problem?
    Thanks,
    Praveen.

when a failure occurs, the cluster will put things back to the state they were in at the time of failure. So if your database is running and the node crashes or is rebooted, then the services should start because the target state is ONLINE. If you do a srvctl stop database, then this is a assumed a planned shutdown so we stop the database and the services (dependent resource as Erik says). If after you have successfully stopped the database, the target state of the service is OFFLINE. If you reboot at this point, then the database and service should not start.
All databases should work the same if they were created the same. There is not enough information in your post to know why they did not start. If it continues to be a problem, contact Oracle Support and they can help figure out the differences.

    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available

    SQL> connect system/manager@xxxxx
    ERROR:
    ORA-12541: TNS:no listener
The last error says no listener. But as per me, the entries in the file /home/oracle/app/product/920/network/admin/tnsnames.ora correct and valid. I have given the HOST entry as the ipaddress of the server box.
Is there any suggestions or tweaks to get rid of these.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
Seems your oracle service is not runnug but check and verify your alert.log file and see if database is up and running or not. Also what's output of following command
    lsnrctl status
    Also try this
    sqlplus '/as sysdba'
    or
    sqlplsu "/as sysdba"
Also try this link to setup password using orapwd utility for system.

Package dependencies exist to stop you from jeopardizing proper functions of your system. There is probably a good reason for this, but if you want to go ahead regardless then try the --nodeps parameter. The error is telling you that you need to install cpp-3.4.6-3.i386.rpm.
