Oracle AS control hangs after user login - AIX 5.3

Hi,
We are engaged with a customer who deploys OracleAS 10.1.2.0.2 on AIX 5.3. After installation, AS control hangs after user logins. This issue is addressed in release note and metalink doc365725.1. We followed the guide in metalink to do the modification and we can access AS control successfully after that. However, due to some other reasons, we restart the AIX, and after that AS control hangs again. This is quite strange. Does anyone meet with this symptom before? How can we resolve this issue?
Thanks in advance.
Sindhiya V.

Thanks everyone for the response and help.
I completed the task yesterday with the permission method. However, I think I found the solution after completion. The trick lies at the oraInst.loc file. It lies at /etc directory for my case (AIX 5.3).
If you do a opatch lsinventory, it shows you the Central Inventory location and the location of orainst.loc. For my case, it is pointing to /oracle/DE1/920_64/inventory. Therefore, even though I am logging in as oraqa1 with all env and oracle settings correct, it still points to DE1 inventory.
I think modifying the Central inventory location in oraInst.loc will solve this problem.

    unable to bootup after Yosemite install. have to keep shutting down from rear button. it does come on after a few times but then hangs at user login again. If you get in it is great. Seems faster than Mavericks but there is some sort of issue, bootup /login.

    Knock on wood, this seems to have been my problem as well.  I stumbled on this thread after dealing with this ridiculously-long boot times for the past several weeks.
    I just reinstalled McAfee Antivirus and my Macbook Air booted up in less than 1 minute.  No more hanging on the boot-up progress bar.  No more hanging after I click on my user's avatar on the log-in screen.  Bootup would often take 5+ minutes and sometimes never complete.
    This has been SUPREMELY frustrating.
    THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING YOUR RESPONSE!!!

    As documented ...
    FAILED_LOGIN_ATTEMPTS is a property of a profile, and will lock an account
    SEC_MAX_FAILED_LOGIN_ATTEMPTS is an initialization parameter and will drop a connection but says nothing about locking accounts.

  • System freezes and restart after user login screen shows up

    The interesting thing is thing is that the same thing happens on the bootcamp partition. Every time I turn on MBA mid 2012, when the login screen shows up, the computer freezes and than turns off. Same problem when I boot into bootcamp partition, the computer turns on, pass through windows logo and after the login screen shows, it turns off.
    ...forgot to mention that it's running osx 10.9
    I figure out that I can log in with Sage Mode. Every time I log in with Safe Mode, the error popup message shows up saying about the error and its log. There is the log:

    Any ideas?

    Problem solved... Figure out that in Safe Mode, the bootcamp partition is unmounted. So I thought that it could be the problem, when the login screen shows up, I guess the system was trying to mount the bootcamp partition and for some reason the computer was restarting. That's why the computer was turning off when I was trying to log in into Bootcamp partition also. So I wiped my bootcamp partition and resized the OSX partition. Now I can succesfully log in my user with out a problem

  • Need to trigger InputProcessor after user login

    Hello All,
    We have a workflow where we need to display some data in a portlet (list of catalogs
    which user has access to).
    This data should be visible when the portlet gets displayed.
    We have an InputProcessor which retrieves this data.
    The question is which event should fire the InputProcessor.
    Could we link the PostLoginProcessor to this InputProcessor?
    So that when a user successfully logs in, this workflow would get executed and the
    portlet would show the list.
    Is this the right approach or there is some other way?
    Would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions.
    Thnx.

    Dave,
    The problem I was having was how to trigger the InputProcessor after user logs in?
    Is there a processor node I can use or some postlogin event?

    I'm assuming that you have supplied a particular .JSP to be dispayed when
    you created your portlet definition. Instead of doing this, create a
    webflow that is executed when the portlet is displayed. In this webflow,
    make the input processor you refer to the start node of the webflow and
    then
    pass control to the .JSP that will display the information. Again, I'm
    assuming that the information that is retrieved as part of the input
    processor is being added to the pipeline session.
    This is probably the best route for accomplishing the loading of the data
    when the portlet is displayed.

    Maybe an option to use a sleep or delay command/exe, for example : RJL Software - Software - Utility - DelayExec
    Call that in a force run application that runs a cmd where the delay then gets started, waiting the amount of time specified and then the installation gets kicked off?
    If this works or not could also be dependent on rights needed etc...

  • Oracle 11g R2 hangs after parameter processes incresed

    Hi,
    I am running an Oracle 11g R2 on a Solaris box. I was getting some Critical alert messages about the "Process Limit %" metric. So I decided to increase the value of the processes database parameter from 200 to 400. After that the system is very slow and hanging with a lot of "Log file sync" and "log file parallel write" events.
    I have rolled it back to 200 and now the system is working fine again, but I am concern about getting again the alert about the "process limit %".
    Is there any other parameter that I need to tune together with the increase of the proccesses on?
    Regards,

    It looks like the issue is not related with the processes change.
    If I reboot then db and then restart the process it runs fine. Something happens during on the db during the day that make the nightly schedule task takes forever. When I checked it this morming there were a lot of commit activity. If I cancel the process and then try to restart it again without rebooting the db the problem persist. But if I bounce the database and then run it, it will complete fine.
    Below is AWR periord comparisson report. The first period is when I cancelled the process and then tried to run it again. The second one is after the database reboot.
    I appreciate any advice.

  • Snow Leopard hangs after LDAP login, mouse works, keyboard stops working

    Afternoon,
    It was suggested that I post my question below in a server forum rather than a client form.
    Mike
    Morning,
    Earlier I posted a question about 10.5 brightness and 10.6. The user will deal with the brightness issue, so that's moot at the moment. I still have an issue with 10.6 hanging.
    I have configured 10.6 to authenticate using OpenLDAP from a Red Hat box. The authentication works fine. I have added /home from the same linux box to the list of NFS mounts (Disk Utility->File->NFS Mounts?, I'm not in front of the mac box at this moment to verify). The /home filesystem does get mounted.
    Very quickly after logging into a non-local, LDAP account, the mac box becomes useless in that I cannot start any programs, I can't logout, I can't do anything. If I double click on Terminal (Applications->Utilities->Terminal) I get the brief flash like Terminal is starting, but the application never appears on the desktop.
    I can still ssh into the mac box. When I ssh in and run top, to see what's consuming the CPU, the machine is idle. My guess right now is every application is timing out or failing to start. I see nothing hogging the CPU nor the network.
    When I log in using a local, non-LDAP account the mac box acts as I expect it to when launching applications, looking at NFS, surfing the web, etc.
    Any ideas what's going on, what to check for, and how to fix this?
    This is an iMac 27". I may need to contact Apple support on this one.
    Mike
    Additionally, the mouse continues to work, the keyboard stops working (wifi both), and the finder starts reporting -10810 on every application open attempt. I can select the Apple->Logout or Restart options, but nothing happens. I must ssh into the iMac and 'shutdown -r now' to get back to a login so I can login as root to make further changes.
    Mike

    I was able to grab a crash log if that helps.

  • Default Dashboard not working after user login

    Hi All,
    We have one issue in 11.1.1.7.1 where PORTALPATH is not working for users. As a result, user lands on home page/recent page instead of the default dashboard after login.
    I followed Doc ID 1576576.1 and Bug 17071629 - PORTALPATH SESSION VARIABLE IS INEFFECTIVE is reported. I applied patch 17071629 on top of 7.1. I have tried and verified that
    ·     The URL we are using to login is “http://machinename:9704/analytics/saw.dll?bieehome&startPage=1”
    ·         There is no Start Page set  in user’s My Account other than Default.
    ·         In Answers, the PORTALPATH session variable fetches correct dashboard path.
    ·         I removed space in the dashboard name and tried with following path “/shared/Dashboard/_portal/PortalPathTest”. Also, assigned same default value to the session variable. I also tried “/Shared Folders/Dashboard/Dashboards/PortalPathTest” and “%2fshared%2fDashboard%2f_portal%2fPortalPathTest” but nothing works.
    ·         lsinventory shows the patch got applied successfully.
    One thing to notice -
    1.       Login url is: "http://machinename:9704/analytics/saw.dll?bieehome&startPage=1"
    2.       After login, browser URL gets changed to "http://http://scoreboard-sit.wellsfargo.com:9704/analytics/saw.dll?bieehomemachinename:9704/analytics/saw.dll?bieehome" and shows Home Page instead of default dashboard.
    3.       Now at this stage, if I append "&startPage=1" to the above step 2 URL in browser, it automatically navigates to correct default dashboard.
    Also, This patch has fixed default dashboard in Act As. That means, If I act as a User, I land on correct default dashboard. But if same user actually logs in, s/he lands on home page.
    I suspect if URL redirection after login is the actual issue. Please suggest if anyone has an idea.
    Thanks,
    Akshat

    I think this was the issue -
    There was a java script error related to an undefined object, "accessMode" in logon.js.  This is related to Accessibility or Section 508 (checked by Developer Tools of IE).  We may have removed this code from the logon page which was causing the error. We had customized the page quite a bit previously. When I ignore the error and step through, I go to the correct portal path page. So we are going to replace the logon.js file with backup and hopefully it will fix the issue.
    Cheers!
    Akshat

  • Oracle Security - Controlling the 'alter user' privilege

    Hi,
    1. DB 10.1.0.5 and 10.2.0.3
    2. "Admin User" needs to be able to change some users passwords in database.
    3. Create user adminuser - grant alter user to adminuser.
    4. DBAs will grant "approle" role to list of required users. DBAs will maintain control of who gets this role.
    4. Create system trigger on alter database - will prevent "adminuser" from changing passwords for accounts not authorized - Script does not fire for DBAs and anyone changing their own password.
    The trigger works as intended - the "adminuser" account can only change the specific set of users.
    Question: We've discovered that the "adminuser" can also use the "alter user" privilege to change default tablespace and tablespace quota. User should only be able to change password.
    Anyone have ideas on adding to the trigger to make sure the "adminuser" is only altering the password?
    I am playing with the ora_is_alter_column system event, thinking that maybe the password column in user$ would be changed but so far I can't get this to work: Here is my trigger --
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER SYS.PASSWORD_CONTROL AFTER ALTER ON DATABASE
    DECLARE
    DBACHK varchar2(50);
    USRCHK varchar2(50);
    BEGIN
    BEGIN
    -- Ensure users can change their own passwords --
    IF
    ora_login_user = ora_dict_obj_name
    THEN
    RETURN;
    ELSE
    -- Do not apply trigger to DBA group --
    select grantee into DBACHK from dba_role_privs where granted_role='DBA'
    and grantee = ora_login_user;
    IF
    DBACHK = ora_login_user
    THEN
    RETURN;
    END IF;
    END IF;
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND
    THEN
    NULL;
    END;
    BEGIN
    select grantee into USRCHK from dba_role_privs where
    granted_role='DISCUSR' and grantee = ora_dict_obj_name;
    IF
    ora_dict_obj_type = 'USER'
    and ora_dict_obj_name = USRCHK
    ---- Need to check that only the password is being change -- the line below does not work
    and ora_is_alter_column('PASSWORD') = TRUE
    THEN
    RETURN;
    ELSE
    RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR(-20003,
    'You are not allowed to alter user.');
    END IF;
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN NO_DATA_FOUND
    THEN

    'You are not allowed to alter user.');
    END;

The DBA (me) recognizes the DB security issues so I am trying to craft a solution that will allow the application administrator the ability to change only the password of the application users.
    I see that this may be out your hands, but I'd still question the wisdom of having an apps administrator being the one to change user passwords. Especially if that were a model where the users couldn't change their own passwords. I might accept it if the app admin were acting more of a helper to a clueless user.
    Since the only way to change user passwords is to grant the 'alter user' privilege I need a system trigger to keep the user from changing non-application user passwords. Also, because I support nearly 100 production databases that support about 35 different applications I need a solution that can apply to multiple databases. I've been assured that there will only be one administrator charged with resetting passwords.
    So,
    Given those requirements, I have this trigger that will allow the the specific administrator to change the password of a specific set of user while not impacting DBAs or people wanting to change their own password. The way I've implemented this is to create a "dummy" role and assigning the role to the application user. The trigger will allow the administrator to change the password only if the user has the role assigned. The role has no privileges, it is just a way to "mark" the user as an application user. The administrator cannot grant this "dummy" role, only the DBA can.
    Hope that clears things up.I still see another problem in that it still comes back to the dba to create the apps user in the first place, and to assign that dummy role to the user. Also, I'd hope that this proposed apps admin user is a role assigned to a real user. If not, as I mentioned before, you have no real accountability to who is using that account. Simply saying "it shall not be shared", even if written in corporate policy, won't secure it, and you won't be able to trace it. Well, you could turn on auditing and capture the OS userid in the audit log.

  • Portege M800 - System hangs after fingerprint login

    I just got my Portege M800 weeks ago and frankly speaking, this model has been giving me much trouble. Earlier it is the heat problem at the palm rest and there is no solution to it.
    Now I am facing another issue with the fingerprint login. I am running on WinXP. I set the system to be locked after 5 minutes idle. So normally after 5 minutes idle, the system will require me to scan my fingerprint to unlock the Windows. But there are times that, after scanning my fingerprint and successfully matched, the screen will just be blank (only showing the desktop wallpaper). No desktop icons, no windows task bar and nothing. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del bring up nothing and no response even any key press. I tried to bring the system to hibernate by press the power button once also bring no response.
    So I finally have to press and hold the power button to hard-reset the laptop.
    Anybody can help or give any clue what was happening? Thanks!

    I found the Fingerprint software on the Toshiba European driver page.
    At this time you can find a 7.10.1.2 version for Vista 32bit and Win XP
    Check this!

  • Run NAC agent before user login - Win7?

    Greetings all and thx in advance for any advice! Environment details - ISE 1.2. Patch 5 and cisco NAC agent 4.9.3.
    I have all of the authen/authz policies working and functioning properly, however, I have run into an issue with the NAC agent running posture only after user login.  This is causing some grief, mainly that users required login scripts can't run successfully until posture is compliant and the more permissive dACL is applied.  I was hoping that posture would complete long before windows login was even an option for the user but for some reason I appear to require an interactive login to get the NAC agent to run posturing.  Any thoughts or ideas on this?  I tried the NAC agent installation with a couple of different user accounts on the windows hosts but without success, it will only posture once I have interactive login.  I went pretty deep on the removal of the posture conditions to simply checking a single windows service but it didn't make any difference.  Thanks for any advice!!
    IA

    Thanks for the reply Saurav, I should have clarified a design point.  I am not doing any user authentication, only doing a machine authen.  As I mentioned I can't seem to posture pre-user authentication even though I am not doing any user authentication.

  • Run a powershell script on every user login/unlock

    Hi everybody
    I need to run a powershell (that opens an interactive dialog box) when every user log in or unlock session or remote connection to this server.  In other words it have to be run every time a user enters a credential.
    I tried task scheduler, but it didn't work properly. I tried triggers like "on workstation unlock" and "on connection to user session". I change user and group to administrators but still it runs under the author user (me) .
    I found out user login event id is 4801 and 4778. can I use these event ids to run powershell code? Can I check raising the event ids through my code?
    any other idea please?
    Thanks in advance

    Im not going to block a logon! I want to run a powershell code for every user login. assume like a message after user login. this kind of message for me is showing to me after other users login.
    specifically this is a window from that I designed to execute on user login to show on the server and every user writes down in the text box the changes that is making on the server. this is a changes log solution to me. then I need to show every user to
    work properly.
    You can run a scheduled task at logon that can display a message.  You can define this task in Group Policy.
    You can also just use the standard user logon message which can also be defined in Group Policy.
    You can execute a script task whenever an unlock event happens.  This, too, can be defined in Group Policy.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
