  • Oracle Retail R13 silently released April 17

    Hi,
At OAUG Collaborate08 conference in Denver it was announced that Oracle Retail would be released April 17 in a "silent release" - not too much media covering.
Indeed one can now find several R13 media packs at edelivery.oracle.com (licensing requirements of course apply there.)
I believe that a later release will receive more media coverage, I forgot whether that was about extended Fusion integration or about new features, or....
Four (patch) releases on R13 are announced to be released in 2008.
The list of applications for R13 currently includes
    - RMS
    - RSL
    - RETL
    - RDW
    - Allocations
    - SIM
    - ReIM
    - Oracle Retail Workspace (WebCenter)
    - RIB (SeeBeyond replaced with Oracle JMS/AQ, TopLink, Stateless Session Beans and Message Driven Beans, OAS).
    - RWMS
    and several others.
All GUIs have been remodelled to the uniform SWAN UI standard.
It was said on Collaborate08 that this would be the Linux release, subsequent AIX, Solaris, HP-UX to follow this summer. I believe that not every software component in the stack differs significantly per OS.
The media sets that I downloaded include a full documentation set.
    Please also see on MetaLink:
Overview Of Features And Enhancements Included In Release Version 12 And Assess Benefits Of Upgrading To Version 13
         Doc ID:      Note:465089.1      Type:      REFERENCE
         Last Revision Date:      30-OCT-2007
The documentation on http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/oracle_retail.html has yet not been extended with the R13 sets.
Nor have any patches been publicly published on MetaLink, though the release guide(s) do mention some known issues in the release(s). Some are being worked on, some patches are available on request.

    Erik Ykema

    Hi,
Just want to bring to your attention
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12462_01/merchandising/docset.html
in there is a pointer to "Data Conversion Operations Guide".
Highlevel this defines a series of more or less general staging tables for some entities, with corresponding batch programs that read the staging tables into the target RMS tables.
Entities like POs, Shipments, transfers etc. all are considered to be closed before migration, if I recall correctly.
Some entities are not in this DCOG and need custom treatment.
Also the following Metalink Notes may be of interest:
    Note:563313.1
    Note:725888.1
Also our System Integrator, Wipro Retail, has another approach, where they have a more or less reusable toolkit that is customized to the customer requirements and handles the whole lot.
I believe that on the Oracle Retail roadmap is a concept called 'scripted upgrades' which, according to the Oracle Retail Lifetime Support Policy (see PDF at oracle.com), should be available from R12 or R13 onwards, however I haven't seen it yet.
    Regards, Erik Ykema

  • Future of Oracle BPM 10g

Hi Friends,   I have been working on Oracle BPM 10g past 6 months, but really not sure whether to continue using this tool as its going to be obsolete soon. Guess most of the client are using Oracle BPM 11g and some even migrating to Oracle 12c. What's the future for Oracle BPM 10g with the respect to BPM market in the future. Are there any projects/clients which are still using Oracle BPM 10g. How easy/difficult is to move from BPM 10g to BPM 11g. I have around 6 years of experience and worked on Savvion Business Manager earlier.  Please help with your valuable suggestions. Regards.

Support for Oracle BPM 10g has been extended.   Look at Oracle's Lifetime Support Policy document for Fusion Middleware (page 40).  Note that support for Oracle BPM 10g has been extended to December 2018.
With that said, if a company was to start an Oracle BPM project today, I'd suggest that they do it using Oracle BPM 11g.  Your upgrade path to 12c will be much simpler using 11g and there aren't many of us left who know and can train people getting started on Oracle BPM 10g.

  • WHen will  be Essbase 9.3 on WIndows 2003 not longer supported?

When will ask Essbase 9.3 on Windows 2003 Note longer supported?

I would say it's already the case ...
Based on the "Oracle Support Lifetime Policy" the Premier and Extended support for Essbase 9.3 are already over, so now it's in "Sustaining Support": it just means it's not going nowhere else (no patch, no updates, nothing). But it will stay in that status forever .... So as long as you have licenses for your system you can continue to run Essbase 9.3 on your Windows 2003 server.
Would probably be good to get in touch with your Oracle contact person to double check that.

  • Alternate for Outreach and Campaign Optimizer

    Hi,
I don't find Campaign optimizer and Outreach in ATG10.2 version. Looks like they are not supported anymore. My question is whatz Oracle's recommmendation for customers that implement ATG and looking for Campaign management, A/B testing functionality ?

Starting with the Oracle ATG Web Commerce version 10.2 release, Oracle will no longer include new versions of the following product modules in Oracle ATG product releases:
    • Oracle ATG Campaign Optimizer
    • Oracle ATG Outreach
    • Oracle ATG Knowledge Manager
    • Oracle ATG Knowledge Manager Self-Service
The final released and supported version for each of these products is Oracle ATG version 10.1.2.  These products will continue to be supported per Oracle's Lifetime Support Matrix for ATG version 10.x, with Premier Support expiring on December 31, 2015.   Extended Support will not be available for these products.

  • 9i Compatibility w/Red Hat's Enterprise Linux 5

    Colleagues,
I know RH just released Ent.5 beta 2 out, I need to know if 9i is compatible for either beta release?

You ask about Oracle9i - that has been desupported and it's highly unlikely that you'll see it available.
If you really mean Oracle9i Release 2 (iow 9.2.0.x), you might want to read
Oracle's 'Lifetime Support' document. It states that Premier Support ends in a few days (July 2007) and that means you might get the EL5 capability IF you purchase Extended or Lifetime Support.
In general, Oracle does not certify against beta releases, and compatibility without certification can be a major hit and miss proposition.

  • Integra Applications & Integra Codebase

Does someone has installed Integra Apps and/or Integra Codebase?
What is the best way to proceed if you need to install it by your own?
I need to install Integra Codebase version 4.0 and Integra Apss version 4.5

Hi there - Unfortunately, Oracle no longer offers Integra Codebase for sale.
Current Codebase customers will be pleased to know that Oracle offers Lifetime Support for Codebase, with Premier Support through December 2010.
Oracle offers best-of-breed solutions that replace many of Codebase's features:
    - JDeveloper and SQL Developer let you manage code that's kept in files and databases - together, they replace Codebase's Maintain Versions, Maintain Project, and Object Finder functions.
    - Enterprise Manager's Configuration Management Pack tracks changes to files and database records - it replaces Codebase's Change Finder functions.
    - Enterprise Manager's Application Change Management Pack replaces Codebase's promotion functions. It lets you combine your developers' changes into patches, then define workflows for approving and applying those patches.

  • Can we set a MINIMUM password lifetime of 1 day in Oracle Database 10g/11g?

Note that this is not a password that expires after one day.  This is a password that once created cannot be changed for at least 1 day.
This is part of an internal audit requirement and i cannot find a way to do it.
    Thanks
    Phil

    Hi,
You can do this by taking the last password changed date from sys.user_history$.
Find the difference between last password change from user_history$ and current sysdate . Put the condition in password verfication function .

  • Need Advise and Suggestions-Oracle 10g

    Hi,
I have been working on databases as DB developer(mainly PLsql)--Oracle 10g
Recently,i have joined in a particular position where I have been asked to find out areas where
improvement is necessary / or areas where improvement or changes would help very much and also gradually implement all best practises avaialable.
So,could you please help me with these queries
(1)What are the most important areas that i can start with the database which would impact largely the entire database. How can i start with it? any steps or process
(2)I had once taken a report out for the expensive SQLs running. But that dint help much...because those SQLs were used temporarily on and off.
Similarly, what are the other points to be looked on.
(3)Things which can be replaced with the industry standarad better ones fully.
an example would be...like.."following a particular naming format,or coding style, etc
    Thanks
    Rohit

    Hi Rohit,
This is a pretty huge subject. To start, I'd say you need to talk to the business. Talk to the users of the database, cause they are your customers. Get a clear understanding of the most critical business processes. Start with the most critical ones, and get performance profiles. How long do they take to run? What's the customer's perception of the process performance? If it's acceptable, move on to the next one. If it's not acceptable, you'll need to dig deeper. Look at each piece of the process. Where is the most time being spent? Can it be improved? This step will be a combination of process improvement and setting the correct expectation. Often, the user doesn't really know what is realistic in terms of performance. If you have a 2 billion row table that needs to get full table scanned, expecting a response time of a few seconds just simply isn't going to happen. You need to clearly convey that to the customer. On the other hand, at the same time, you should be on the lookout for real improvements. If you can re-write the SQL or add an index, and eliminate the FTS on that 2 billion row table, maybe a response time of a few seconds is actually realistic.
It's all about understanding the system, and understanding the customer's needs, and how they intersect. It will be an iterative process, and will take some time.
As to "best practices", I'm not a fan of them. Understand your system, understand your customer's needs, and understand how Oracle actually works. If you can master that, you'll be unstoppable. Note that many, many people, much smarter people than me, have spent a lifetime trying to master those three points... :-)
Good luck with your new job!
    -Mark

  • What is the lifetime of a session?

    Hi all,
I am writing a .NET application that queries an Oracle Database. I am altering the Session variable current_schema in order to execute commands with a different default schema than that of the logged in user. The change to current_schema should persist for the duration of the session, but I'm not sure how long this is. Originally I expected it to be the lifetime of the connection, but this is not the case.
    The following code illustrates:
    public sub getvalue()
    Static Dim done As Boolean
    Dim daODP As DataAdapter
Dim conODP As New OracleConnection("Data source=oracleInstance;User ID = username; Password = Password")
Dim cmdODP As New OracleCommand("alter session set current_schema = scott", conODP)
daODP = New OracleDataAdapter("Select columnName from TBLNAME", conODP)
    If Not done Then
    conODP.Open()
    cmdODP.ExecuteNonQuery()
    conODP.Close()
    done = True
    End If
    conODP.Open()
    Dim dsODP As New DataSet
    daODP.Fill(dsODP)
    conODP.Close()
    end sub
The Alter session command is executed only the first time the method is called, however each subsequent call inherits the same 'session' from oracle, because if it didn't then the call would fail. Once the test application is restarted the session is reset.
When is a session created and when is it ended? Is session length a server property? is it dependent on traffic?(eg:timeout) Is it valid for the life of the application?

So, to be clear (I was doing some searching around on connection pooling and sessions just to clarify things in my mind), if I use the default conection pooling enabled then I have to take extra care to ensure that I don't leave anything persistent laying about? For example, package variables set in one transaction could wind up persisting to another transaction by another user if they happen to pick up the connection used by the first user?
Damn, but that really is a pain for anyone with a history of using packages and whose brain just automatically assumes session-persistence for a given user when they're coding - it just simplifies so many things. But I don't particularly care to deal with the overhead of opening and closing connections left and right either. Time-consuming and expensive, especially the way .NET front end users are used to opening and closing them left and right.
Time to do some thinking on this.....

Deposit Advice will continue to be supported. What this means is that
new code changes and bug fixes will not be tested on the Live
Checkwriter and Deposit Advice. Additionally, enhancements made to the
Archive version will NOT be made for the Live version.
    Desupport of Standard Tax Interface
Oracle no longer supports the Standard Tax interface. Taxes will
continue to be calculated and tax rate changes from the Vertex Data
Updates will continue. New code changes and bug fixes will not be tested
on the Standard Interface and we cannot guarantee that all functionality
will continue to work. Additionally, enhancements made to taxes will NOT
be made for the Standard Tax Interface. We strongly recommend that you
upgrade immediately to the Enhanced Tax interface.

  • Oracle 10.1.0.4 on Windows Server 2008 64 bits Standard

    Hello,
For migratiion purposes, we would need to install Oracle 10.1.4.0 on a Windows Server 2008 64 bits Standard, and then upgrade it to 11g.
We have forced Oracle 10.2.0.4 installation on a Windows Server 2008 64 bits Standard, but we are not sure for 10.1.0.4.
Since we don't have that software version to try it and we are looking for it, is it possible to install Oracle 10.1.4.0 on a Windows Server 2008 64 bits Standard?
Could you point me out a document that reference Oracle versions compatibilty with Windows Server 2008?
    Thanks

At MOS, click on the certifications tab, then enter database in the first drop down box, and select the rdbms. Then enter the relevant info in the other boxes, and then you will see Oracle Database 10.1.0.4.0 is not certified on Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit) 2008 R2
Certification is a little more strict than supported, but extended support ended in January.      REMINDER: Premier Support for Oracle Database 10.1 ends January 2009 [ID 761713.1]
There's always lifetime support, but your case shows how useful that can be.
