Oracle ASM Configuration on Solaris Cluster - Oracle 11.2.0.3
Hi,
I want some clarifications!
I need to set Active and Passive Cluster settup on Solaris 10 SPARC Operating System, the HA software is Solaris Cluster and Oracle 11.2.0.3.
1) I understand "Single instance Oracle ASM is not supported with Oracle 11g release 2" so we need to go for Clustered ASM - is it required to use RAC framework in this case?
2) When i use the RAC framework, do i need to have license for RAC?
Am new to Oracle, any help is appreciated.
Regards,
Shashank

Hi,
I want to configure ASM on Solaris Oracle sparc-64 bit server with Netapp storage.
I am bit confused, when to create diskgroup using asmca. Because there is no asmlib package available. I cannot start grid installation because during installation it asking for disk (which i want to use from shared storage diskgroup).
YuvrajYou should read the installation REQUIREMENTS for the platform you are using. You do NOT need to follow some other document to "mark" the devices for ASM. It is not necessary. I have NEVER done this, nor have I EVER used asmlib on Linux. IT IS NOT NECESSARY!!!!!!! Read the Oracle docs.
have sys admin configure devices to be visible for all nodes (stand-alone or cluster)
Make sure you use fdisk and use a partition that excludes the first 2 cylinders (0-1). Your partitions should start at cylinder 2. If you do not, ASM will overwrite the Solaris VTOC for the device rendering it unusable until you correctly partition the devices. The device should only have 2 partitions. Partition 1 is cylinder 0-1, and Partition 2 is cylinders 2-<last>. All ASM disks in a given DISKGROUP need to be EXACTLY the same size. You can have multiple diskgroups with different size devices, but that just makes managing your devices more complicated. A word of warning, in 11gR2, if you use a diskgroup with EXTERNAL REDUNDANCY, you will only get 1 voting file. The recommendation for a CRS diskgroup is to be made up of 3 x 2G devices for OCR/VOTING with NORMAL redundancy. This will create 3 voting files.
set correct ownership of grid:oinstall (or whatever:whatevergroup) for only partition 2 of these devices
Next make sure the grid user and the oracle rdbms user can both READ and WRITE to these partitions (rdbms user must be a member of the oinstall/whatever group).
during the install, make sure you change the ASM_DISKSTRING to point to these devices:
eg: /dev/whatever*p2. The installer will then mark the devices properly and create the diskgroup(s)
I don't know why so many people make this so hard. It is NOT that hard!!!!!

Oracle apps configuration required to install oracle lite database
Hi,
Can any one suggest me the oracle apps setups and configuration required for installing the oracle lite databse in my laptop.
The olite databse must sink with my existing oracle apps.
thanks in advance...user596857 wrote:
Dear Experts, (I'm far from expert, but I possess enough shreds of knowledge to answer your question, so here goes. ;-) )
1a)
My server has Oracle version 11.1.0.6.0, but the matrix says it wants 11.1.0.7.
I should get a warning right?
Can I just proceed with the install, over-riding the warning?
1b)
If so, what is the procedure to install into the existing database?
It wasn't obvious in the (150 page) install docs. The EBS install delivers its own ORACLE_HOME for the database. There isn't an option to install into an existing database as far I know. The installer will ask where to put the new ORACLE_HOME for the EBS database. You might get a warning if you try to install to a pre-existing ORACLE_HOME, and I don't recommend ignoring that warning. The result will either be ugly immediately or, even worse, ugly later when it's harder to figure out why. ;-)
Do an upgrade?Won't really help. The ORACLE_HOME that's bundled with the installer usually comes with additional patches pre-installed, as well as EBS-friendly configuration options. You're much better off taking what it gives you so you can get down to the real fun of learning EBS. :-)
Or, do regular install, but not Express/Rapid Install?I recommend doing a Vision install for learning EBS.
Can I choose not to install the database software?Nope (unless my memory is really that bad), and there's no real benefit to doing so. All you'd save is a couple GB of disk, and as a percentage of the total install footprint of EBS, the database ORACLE_HOME is relatively tiny.

John P.

ORACLE ASM OR ZFS IN SOLARIS 11
ORACLE DBA EXPERTS
What kind of storage technology is recommended in order to implement an Oracle 11gr2 database in a Solaris 11 OS?
-Oracle ASM or the Solaris 11 ZFS filesystem.
Its any difference between the performance of both storage technologies?
Thanks for answer my questions and i wish to yours a very "Happy Hollydays".
Sincerely,
JOHN JAIRO GOMEZ LAVERDEFrom what I understand Oracle recommends ASM. You cannot directly compare ASM with ZFS. ASM is a storage solution providing data management, availability and redundancy specific to Oracle. ZFS is an advanced file system. Whether you choose one over the other will depend on your storage requirements and knowledge.

Grid 11GR2:: [INS-20802] Oracle Net Configuration Assistant Failed
Hi Oracle DBA's.
I am trying to configure GRID comprising of 2 Nodes and the installation works without error all the way through to the end of the installer when it
errors out @ the *Oracle Net Configuration Assistant. I've built this before without hassle and cannot figure out what's causing the error, this time round.
2 Nodes (Redhat 5.4 64 Bit)
Linux jabal.example.com 2.6.18-128.el5 #1 SMP Wed Dec 17 11:41:38 EST 2008 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
jabal.example.com & jebel.example.com are the nodes.
Both the servers are clean installs and updated with all the required dependencies satisfied.
Iptables & SElinux are disabled on both nodes.
I've read a few posts on the net pointing the problem to a miconfigured /etc/hosts file, i've included mine here below for some comment?

Where can i find that listener log file ?Zoltan gave you the specific, one-time answer.
The generalized, learn-to-self-help answer is:
Use your os's search utility to fiind any file you want. In the case of Linux, that utility is called 'find'. Instructions on how to use it are all over the net, and the official documentation for all Linux utilties installed on your system can be read by using the 'man' command (ie: 'man find').
To tie the general to the specific, you would use
find / -name listener.log Or, faster and fewer error messages
find $ORACLE_HOME -name listener.log -
Oracle Net Configuration Assistant Install Failure
I'm installing 11G R2 on Fedora 12.
The Installation got to 95% and displayed the following error
[INS-20802] Oracle Net Configuration Assistant Failed
Naturally it says to have a look at the InstallActions log which then says to check the trace log. The last 100 or so lines from the trace log is below, can anyone assist as to where I can start to troubleshoot this problem?

What Linux versions are supported by Oracle?Oracle did a very very strange thing. They put that kind of information into something called 'Documentation', and generally made that available at http://docs.oracle.com (or searchable at http://tahiti.oracle.com)
In fact, they put that specific information into a document called "Oracle® Database Installation Guide" into a chapter with the unnatural title of "Oracle Database Preinstallation Requirements" at a section called "Operating System Requirements" which you can find at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e10840/pre_install.htm#CHDFFBIF

Where do I obtain OEL?That's a tough one. I'll give you some alternatives:
- http://linux.oracle.com which provides a 'Download' link.
- http://download.oracle.com and search for Linux which provides a link.
- http://edelivery.oracle.com (the official supported download location for ALL Oracle s/w) and follow the 'Linux' link
- http://oss.oracle.com (especially to find Yum and other related things)
Out of desperation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oracle_Enterprise_Linux
And as a last resort, http://lmgtfy.com/?q=oracle+enterprise+linux
Hope that helps -

The issue is resolved. Thanks for your response.
The issue is, windows 2003 server is 32 bit and I am trying to install 64 bit 11g database. I tried installing 32 bit 11g database. Before that I have cleared the traces of virtual box in my host system and reinstalled it and tried. It worked out.
Thanks

, my first question :
can i pass this step, ?
after all, my installation form is okey, but everything change become nightmare.
I installation failed on Configuration Assistant :

Do you have solution for this ?

Overall very poor system performance.Hi
I checked I think It is normal behaviour some times.
When u change priority it will use large chunk of memory for high Priority or consult ur sys admin for CPU load balancing. CPU load balancing can be done through some utilities also.
Some times changing priority works for me.
Let me know if u need any further help.

thxLet's assume your software installation was successful. Even if no database was created at this time. Check the Oracle Universal Installer inventory to verify this. At this time you should verify your connectivity, as previously suggested, verify the hosts file properly describes the hostname.domainname and the simple hostname. Verify the security is disabled, according to the install guide you have referred to.
Then check the environment variables PATH, ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_SID, LD_LIBRARY_PATH are properly set and issue the commands:
1) netmgr, this will be used to configure the listener and the tnsnames.ora file, you could use the netca if you want, this is a subset of netmgr.
2) dbca, this will assist you in creating the database. there you will find an option to setup enterprise manager, ensure you have it selected so the EM repository is created.
3) You won't find isqlplus on 11g, but the regular sqlplus CLI is available

INFO: Shutdown Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Installer

I am trying to install Oracle 11g R2 on my windows 7, 64bit computer. After 42% of installation, it started showing some files are missing. Few of them are:
C:\app\User\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\owb\external\oc4j_applications\applications\WFMLRSVCApp.ear
C:\app\User\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\oc4j\j2ee\oc4j_applications\applications\WFMLRSVCApp.ear

C:\app\User\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\oc4j\j2ee\OC4J_DBConsole\config\system-application.xml
And the final pop up winow says:
Database configuration Assistant:Info
*"Template General_Purpose.dbc does not exists. Please specify an exixting template for database creation"*
*"[INS-20802] Oracle Database Configuration Assistant failed"*
Details:
Cause:- The plug-in failed in its perform method
Action:- Refer to the logs or contact Oracle Support Services.
Following are the last few lines of the log file. Can anyone please help me to fix this problem?<snip>
the error has nothing to do with DBCA. DBCA was simply the last in a long string of victims.
Go back and read the instructions where you downloaded the install media. They state that the TWO zip files you download must be unzipped into the same directory. -

What is the different between using dns and hosts file? How do I force it to use the DNS?
I checked that the file sqlnet.ora.linux1 and the directory does not exist. It is strange that I am installing the grid software not the oracle software. The directory only exist in /u01/app/crs/...
