Oracle ASM Configuration on Solaris Cluster - Oracle 11.2.0.3
Hi,
I want some clarifications!
I need to set Active and Passive Cluster settup on Solaris 10 SPARC Operating System, the HA software is Solaris Cluster and Oracle 11.2.0.3.
1) I understand "Single instance Oracle ASM is not supported with Oracle 11g release 2" so we need to go for Clustered ASM - is it required to use RAC framework in this case?
2) When i use the RAC framework, do i need to have license for RAC?
Am new to Oracle, any help is appreciated.

Oracle BPEL Installation in Solaris
Hi all,
Can anybody give some tips on how to install the Oracle BPEL in a Solaris environment. i did the oracle BPEL 10.1.2 installation in windows machine and did a POC.Now i want to replicate the same setup in a solaris environment and do a performance testing.
In Windows it was quite easy cince we get a Olite DB along with the BPM installation, but in solaris i am sure we need to do a seperate DB configuration.
Do i need to use the Repository creation agent to do that or can i use the scripts which i downloaded from the oracle BPM download page?
which one should i install
* the Oracle BPEL Process Manager for Oracle AS middle Tier?
or
*BPEL process manager for developers
Please let me know if i need to do any special work arounds for completing the installation.
Your response is highly appreciated.
Thanks & Regards
SubbuHi,
you have to install
* the Oracle BPEL Process Manager for Oracle AS middle Tier
Please take a look at the installation guide. You need a Oracle DB to run BPEL in production environment.... -
DAA Installation in Solaris cluster Environment
Hello,
We are integrate our PRD system to SOlution Manager 7.1 .
Our System is in Solaris Cluster where in DB run on one node and SAP on another.
Right now I have installed DAA in Node A where SAP is installed. In managed system setup in solution manager I can see both the nodes and I can assign the DAA for SAP ABAP system .
My doubt is do I have to install DAA again in node B and do the same manged system steps for Node B in Solman.
I am not able to find any relevant blog or notes related to this scenario.
It would be great if someone can guide me through the process.
Thanks
RaghuHi ,
Ok , so as Divyanshu said I can just continue installation on Node B with same DAA SID.
But If I going to install as Amar said I have to uninstall the current installation and start a fresh installation on both Node without mentioning Logical Hostname.
Amar,
I have already gone through that link but now the problem is I have to convince the client to uninstall the DAA which is already installed . To get permission and to redo activities its bit complicated.
So I probably go with Divyanshu's method . Install DAA in Node B with same SID and continue the same configuration in Solman.
I will update the result once I finish with that.
Thank you

Oracle ASM installation and raw device options
I am looking to install Oracle ASM on Linux Red Hat AS 4 (ia64) using Oracle 10.2.0.3.
A general question I have regarding prerequisites for ASM using raw devices. It appears there are 2 options for dealing with RAW devices.
1. Use the ASM library driver
or
2. simply bind the devices to raw devices (and then install a new $OH with an ASM instance)
Is there a recommendation from Oracle, industry best practices, expert opinions on which way to go?
If I understand correctly it sounds like option 2 will require an ASM $OH and instance. Is that right or do both option require this?
Can someone provide guidance as to which option I should use, an Oracle whitepaper, a recommendation, instructions or something.
Any help or insight is provided as to which option I should use.
Thank you.
echardrdOK. Perhaps I am a little condused then. From what I read Oracle ASM recommends the use of RAW devices for ASM storage devices. What I have is a new LUN presented to my database server from the SAN. I assumed that the LUN needs to be mounted in some fashion on the server, but my SA tells me in order to mount it, would require the use of a filesystem. If we put a filesystem(NTFS, ext, etc) on the LUN prior to mounting it, will ASM be able to use it? If ASM can use a device that has a filesystem on it will this add unneccessary overhead (I/O)?
I guess my question is for ASM should I
1. use a RAW partition or a filesystem? Does it matter?
2. Will RAW have better I/O performance?
3. How do i make the LUN presentation from the SAN a usable RAW device to my database server? Any steps or guidance would be helpful since my SA and I can not seem to bridge this gap.
Thanks. -

sureshHi,
- Refer the installation guide for userid and space requirements (pre-installation steps).
- Invoke runInstaller with full CD mount path as oracle user from home directory
Ex: /cdrom/cdrom0/runInstaller (instead of cd /cdrom/cdrom0; ./runInstaller)

Oracle 10g Installation nn solaris 10 X86
I have installed Oralce 10.1.0.3 in Solaris 10 X86 using the procedure given without creating the database.(Installing the binaries)
Hardware:Sun fire V20z.
When i tried creating Database using DBCA,it was throwing lots of error.
The errors are:
1) ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
2) ORA-03114: not connected to oracle
3) ORA-27100: shared memory realm already exists.
Oracle says nothing to do with Oracle 10g,Check the OS.
Any help on creating a database in Solaris 10 x86 Oracle 10.1.0.3
Thanks in Advance.check your /etc/system and init.ora
did you set up kernel parameters for oracle in /etc/system?
something like this:
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=0xffffffff
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmin=1
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=4096
set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=100
set semsys:seminfo_semmni=4096
set semsys:seminfo_semmsl=4096
set semsys:seminfo_semmns=1000
set semsys:seminfo_semopm=100
set semsys:seminfo_semvmx=32767
the interesting parameter is
set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=100 - that is maximum amount of oracle processes system can have, if you have something like processes=150 in init.ora, database won't start.
read oracle installation manual on how to set these parameters for a particular machine and database -

ORACLE ASM OR ZFS IN SOLARIS 11
ORACLE DBA EXPERTS
What kind of storage technology is recommended in order to implement an Oracle 11gr2 database in a Solaris 11 OS?
-Oracle ASM or the Solaris 11 ZFS filesystem.
Its any difference between the performance of both storage technologies?
Thanks for answer my questions and i wish to yours a very "Happy Hollydays".
Sincerely,
JOHN JAIRO GOMEZ LAVERDEFrom what I understand Oracle recommends ASM. You cannot directly compare ASM with ZFS. ASM is a storage solution providing data management, availability and redundancy specific to Oracle. ZFS is an advanced file system. Whether you choose one over the other will depend on your storage requirements and knowledge.

Does solaris cluster 3.3 need to install veritas vxvm software?
hello buddy
I read the document for solaris cluster 3.3 , and see it need to install veritas vxvm.
why need veritas vxvm if I have solaris cluster ?
ThanksYou need to use either Solaris Volume Manager, or Veritas Volume Manager. With clustering you need a disk manager that is cluster aware, iow, it needs to know that one disk can be accessed by more than one server at a time.
Have a look at chapter 3 in the Cluster installation manual for the steps to use Solaris Volume Manager. It's iportant to use the /dev/did disk names

Solaris Cluster 3.2 with Oracle 11i R2 oracle agent installation question
Hi all!
I'm new in clustering and trying to build a two-node cluster in my lab. At the moment i've successfully installed cluster software and oracle on the nodes and now i'm trying to integrate cluster with oracle DB. Unfortunately, i couldn't find the documentation about this task. Can anyone give me an URL, where to look? By the way: i tried to find something here: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-7360/fxjbo?a=view but found info only about Oracle RAC and nothing else, but i'm trying to build cluster without RAC - just only with solaris cluster.Hi,
You might run into trouble with 11gR2 right now. You need to wait until the nxt patch for th eHA Oracle agent is avialble, or use 11gR1 at the moment.
Sorry for the bad news.
