Oracle BI  Setup

Hi DBAs,
I am just starting up working with OBIEE . Please refer me to some installation document for OBIEE 10.1.3.4.1 on OEL 5.x. I need to install and configure the following components.
Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition 10.1.3.4.1
Informatica PowerCenter and PowerConnect Adapters 8.6.1 and Hotfix
Oracle Business Intelligence Data Warehouse Administration Console 10.1.3.4.1
Do I need to install the Oracle Database first to host some kind of repository etc for the above components. If some one provide me a good starting reference that would be much appreciated.
Thanks and best regards

I never ask you to answer my question. Why you waste your time on posting like this. . Is that your frustration or attitude. Is this forum only for experienced people (where it says). I already gone through a lot of documents but while installing and setting up the OBIEE, Informatica, DAC on Linux 64 and configuring it with R12 etc first time ever I faced many issue and ask for help. I never told you and characters like you to do the things for me. I only asked for a reference material /document instead of read all the web and OTN.
Please read my question what I was looking for... I know sometime questions on this forum seems very basic and for an experienced person kind of silly...
Now I was able to setup the complete infrastructure and It was all from the documents referred by some users of this forum.
By the way this is helpful
On OBIEE forum:
Read the product documentation : http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10415_01/doc/nav/portal_booklist.htm

Are you logging to the system as Administrator?@user514261
The question above was relative how to log to your machine, not to database.
    Nicolas.
Iim just logging into my machine as a regular Windows XP user.
BTW, this is a standalone PC that a couple of days ago didn't have Oracle in any form loaded onto it.
I was attempting to download and install Oracle and in the process I installed Lite then Express. I tried installing the 64bit version first but it wasn't compatible, mine's a 32bit.
The Lite and Express versions didn't do what I needed but I just left them loaded then I came across the 9i version and downloaded it.
I unzipped them and followed the instructions and ran setup from the command prompt which brought up the Universal Installer.
It didn't ask me who I was, it just asked where it should load it to and what type.
Actually, the very first time I installed it, it worked but in my messing around with it I thought I needed to uninstall it and reinstall it. From that point on I have been getting the error.
So I guess you can say I was the administrator but I didn't log into it that way.
BTW, this all started because I received a DVD of an exported compressed Oracle database that I have found out can only be read by importing it into Oracle otherwise it is just a coaster.

  • Oracle DR Setup Problems / ORA - 600 /

    Dear All,
Recently we have implemented DR(Disaster Recovery setup Using Oracle data guard in 10g, GUI configurations ) in our Production server. The DR setups are based on the Maximum performance with Realtime apply mode.
The configuration went fine and both servers(DR and ) were syncing fine together as well.
But unfortunately, there was a power failure in the DR site(Which is on the other network) and also the UPS also went down after some time, the real problem started here,
Once the DR server was down, after sometime we are not able to login in to the production system, Interestingly, both DB server and application server are running fine. But we are not able to login into server - SAPGUI hangs. There are no such error written in SAP level and but in oracle alert log, we found out ORA 600 error and also connection timed out for placing the archive log(log_destination_2) in the standby server(This is the DR server - And due to power failure, its not able to reach the server for placing the archive log file )
    Temporary solution,
If we restart the production server, we are able to work continuously in the production system without any problem.
So, my query is that, what makes the production system hangs if DR server is unavailable and how it work if we restart the instance? Is this the normal procedure in DR setup? or its a bug in the oracle data guard or in the parameter log_archive_dest2?
Looking forward for your answers with your valuable suggestions
For the reference, I am pasting a part of alert log

  • Oracle Standby setup for firewall

    Hi,
Recently one of my client separated their primary and standby databases with Juniper firewall. After the activity, some primary database servers were unable to ship the archives whereas some of the primary databases were shipping the archives but the archives at standby site getting corrupted.
telnet from both the sides are happening properly.
    telnet <ip_address> <listener_port>-----------------------> works fine
    My question is:
Is there any recommended setting for Juniper Network firewall, which can be used for Oracle databases?
What are ports which needs to opened for a standby to work? (Apart from opening ports, Is there any other setting which can hinder physical-standby setup)

  • Oracle Portal Setup and hosting prices.

    Hello Everyone,
I am new to this community, and will like to know what it cost to setup, and host an Oracle portal. I am doing a little research for school, and will greatly appreciate any answers. Thanks.

It really depends on what you want, how many users will be using it, what it's for, and how many servers you would need to accommodate it and what type of Oracle package you choose to purchase and if you have Oracle consultants help you with the installation and creation or if you hire your own specialists to do it.
It's not really a question with an easy answer. What I would do, is I would assess a few different scenarios that are similar to different types of environments business would use it in and then research the components they require and for how large of a scale.
Portal isn't a stand alone product you really don't have a business using JUST portal. They are using Application Server and using the other products that come with along with Application Server such as Portal, Discoverer, Data Warehouse, Reports and other Oracle Tool kits and custom tool kits to achieve specific end results dependent on the requirements of the business. Portal is just a user friendly way of bring that information to either the public through the internet or your users though intranet and SSO.

  • Oracle cluster setup

    Hi There,
We're trying to build a clustered oracle environment using oracle 11g (11.2.0.1) under Windows 2008 server.
The basic setup is to have 2 servers (active/passive), one shared SAN disk, install the software on both servers, put the database datafiles on the shared disk/SAN and when needed we can switch the shared disk between the 2 servers as failover/failback.
IS the above industry standard cluster setup? or is there a better way of doing it? does oracle/windows provide a way to failover/failback between servers?
Are there any documents that we can read that explains a good cluster setup please (without using RAC)? Or is there a document that have a better setup?
Can someone shed some light on this please and/or point us to the right direction.
    Thanks

Does oracle clusterware comes shipped with the specific release (10g, 11g..etc) database installation pack or is it a separate download?
We saw this under the oracle download section:
Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Grid Infrastructure (11.2.0.1.0) for Microsoft Windows (x64)
           Download      win64_11gR2_grid.zip (715,166,425 bytes) (cksum - 3127109177)
Contains the Grid Infrastructure Software including Oracle Clusterware, Automated Storage Management (ASM), and ASM Cluster File System. Download and install prior to installing Oracle Real Application Clusters, Oracle Real Application Clusters One Node, or other Oracle software in a Grid Environment So, I was wondering if we should download this and install it on the server?
    Thanks

  • Oracle BI Setup Question

    Hi,
My company is exploring the use of Oracle BI Publisher within our existing setup to generate reports for our clients.
I have installed Oracle BI Publisher Desktop on my work station and have a couple of questions:
    1)     Although we're an Oracle shop, we do not plan on passing data from our database into Oracle BI Publisher. Instead, we’re thinking of passing data from our application into Oracle BI Publisher in the form of some data structure (array, matrix, etc) or an XML file. Is this supported?
    2)     If we can use an XML file as inputs into Oracle BI Publisher, are there any sample codes as to how to do this? Do I have to have Java EE installed? Any additional packages?
    3)     What does Oracle BI Publisher Desktop do? After installing it on my desktop, when I tried to open it, it attempts to connect to a Oracle BI Publisher server. Must I have an Oracle BI Publisher Server installed?
    4)     Does running Oracle BI Publisher require installing WebLogic?
Thank you very much for your help!

    Hope to help here:
    A bit of architecture overview:
BI Publisher is composed of two main pieces:
    a) BI Publisher Server (J2EE Application) : Actual application which contains the reports and data sources definitions
for users access( through web browser)
    b) BI Publisher Desktop (MSFT Word Add-in): Used to develop Templates only (Layout)
    With regards your questions:
    1. It is supported. BI Publisher server can fetch data from XML source files (OTB feature)
    2. As mentioned above for reports to work and be accessible to a community you need to deploy BI Publisher server
onto the certified App Servers: OC4J, Weblogic, Websphere, etc. Check this link for 10g:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12844_01/doc/bip.1013/e12692/toc.htm
This is true for BI Publisher 10g. The new release 11g is for now only supported on Weblogic Server.
    3. Already explained above. It is used only to develop templates. It does not provide any other functionality.
    4. As explained above BI Publisher Server is required and since it is a J2EE application it requires a supported app server
    like Weblogic.
    Cheers
    Jorge
