Oracle BI Spreadsheet Add-in Licensing

Is anybody aware of the licensing policy with Oracle BI Spreadsheet Add-in? Are these licenses to be purchased separately or avaiable with the install of database with OLAP option? Any advise or reference to documentation would be useful.
We have the following database installed and licensed currently:
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bit Production
With the Partitioning, Oracle Label Security, OLAP, Data Mining
and Real Application Testing optionsWe have the Oracle 10g version with OLAP option installed
Thanks,S
Sudip

The Oracle BI Spreadsheet Add-in is included in your OLAP Option license.
You might also be intested in knowing that you wil soon be able to use Excel 'natively' using an MDX connection to an Oracle 11g cube. This is a very nice solution. If you have the opportunity to evaluate Oracle11g OLAP (which as lots and lots of enhancements), you should definiately be looking at this solution.

  • Oracle BI Spreadsheet Add-In

    Hi.
I'm trying to download OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In 10g from
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/bi/spreadsheet_addin/download/download.html
but I cannot get the links after accepting the License Agreement.
When I do this in Internet Explorer, I receive java Script Error and in any other browsers, like Firefox or Chrome sipmply nothing happens.

    Hi,
I can reproduce the issue as I cannot download any of the two files -- Oracle has to fix the two links.
    Thanks,

  • User name and password for Oracle BI Spreadsheet Add-in

    Dear all,
I downloaded Oracle Database 10g Express Edition and I installed it successfully. I created a new account. Then I downloaded Oracle Business Intelligence Spreadsheet Add-in and I installed it successfully as well (both on my PC).
Now I would like to run Oracle Business Intelligence Spreadsheet Add-in but I don't know the way of running it. I click "New query". Then I go to the "Connection editor". There are four boxes.
"Description box" is clear. I write 127.0.0.1 or k219 (it's the name of my computer) into the "Host name box". As the "Port Number box" I use 1521. Then I write xe into the "SID box".
Then I return to the "OLAP connection tab". There are items: user name and password. I try to write user name and password created in Oracle Database 10g Express Edition. And the result is an error: Faild to connect to OLAP service

When u install Oracle 10g, it forces u to enter new passwords for System as well as scott user and it does not allow u to keep old know passwords as manager and tiger.
If u installed with new passwords successfully, u must be knowing those new passwords and there is no reason to try with system/manager. Instead try to connect with new passwords. We never faced such problems.
If the problems still persits, check that
    a) Oracle service is running
    b) Instance is running by and whether u are able to connect / as sysdba

I went through other questions related to BI Spreadsheet Add-In and I could see that people were talking about another programs and modules needed for successfull running.
So should I install another modules e.g. Warehouse Builder?

    Hello,
I went through the same process as user484588, and received the same results.
I have some Access/Excel VBA programs that I use to verify the results of an Essbase cube. Having worked with Oracle products quite a bit in the past, I am reviewing Oracle XE to possibly replace them. The database and forms writer components of XE looks pretty cool, but I need a lot more in the way of report writer.
I have connected Excel to the XE database using Data/Import External Data, but that's no better than my current Access/Excel implementation.
Are there any other reporting tools available for use with XE?

  • Oracle BI Spreadsheet Add-in 10g 's API has forgotten what OLAP is !

    Hello,
Did you know that since the 10g, the news API to reach AW is in SQL language?
Never mind, after all, since one obtains what one wishes!
The problem is that this interface generates an SQL request BY Excels cell!!
    100 cells = 100 sql requests!!!
Forgotten the OLAP operations where one LIMITS the axes according to what one wishes to post! :o((
Did you note the same thing as me? For example, during all the Excel session, the STATUS of dimensions remains with ALL STATUT…
The old ones which know the multidimensional will wonder what you can make in a multidimensional system which cannot manage the STATUT of dimensions any more, and well, not large thing….
Oracle noted that an OLAP server could not summarized with SQL and has to preserve Oracle OLAP. It is the same thing for an OLAP API, we hope that Oracle awakes and corrects quickly this error!

    Yes, BUT :
In SQL would you send an SQL statement for each cell? No, you would have WHERE clauses like this: (for 2 columns and 3 lines)
    WHERE -
    DIMENSION_IN_PAGE = "CODE1" and -
    DIMENSION_IN_COLUMN in ("CODE2", "CODE3")
    DIMENSION_IN_LINE in ("CODE4", "CODE5", "CODE6")
This WHERE clause would be translated in OLAP like this:
    LIMIT DIMENSION_IN_PAGE to 'CODE1'
    LIMIT DIMENSION_IN_COLUMN to 'CODE2' 'CODE3'
    LIMIT DIMENSION_IN_LINE to ‘CODE4’ 'CODE5' 'CODE6'
What API does is 5 sql statements for all the combinations of column and line, it's crazy don't you think? (Clause where with only one code for each dimension...)
An SQL API does not excuse this. I really think there's a "bug" in this API
    Don't you think?
If you use a "heavy" cube with "on the fly calculations" and "HOLAP architecture" this API is a catastrophe (90% of elapse to loop over cells and 10% of elapse for fly calculations and HOLAP...).
    Hope I'll be understand.

  • Saved Selections missing from Spreadsheet Add-in

    Hi,
One of my end users is having a problem with the Oracle Spreadsheet Add-In that no-one else seems to be having and I'm at a loss for what to suggest to him.
Yesterday he encountered some network related problem which left it impossible for the Spreadsheet Add-in to connect to the AW on the database. Everybody else that uses OLAP cubes was still able to connect without problems. When he entered the username and password and pressed connect the system hangs for a few seconds and then returns to the spreadsheet without invoking the wizard. Our desktop services team looked at the problem and couldn't resolve it so have re-installed the Spreadsheet Add-In. This has resolved his connection problems and he is able to build his own queries using the cubes.
The problem that he is now finding is that the saved selection criteria that he had previously been using was no longer visible to him. I.e. when he is in the wizard building a query based on a cube, he selects, say, the time dimension, and rather than selecting from the members tab on the left-hand side of the screen, he moves to the Saved Selection tab. It is at this point that he would usually see a list of his previously saved selections - but he doesn't see any folders or selections.
When I reproduce his steps on my computer I see a folder called Users and then another folder with the schema name and then underneath that there are a number of saved selections. I can select these without any problems.
I'm not sure if this problem is related to permissions somewhere or if somehow the installation is incomplete.
    Has anyone encountered this before??
    LM

The first step to resolving this issue is to check your Analytic Workspace is working. Within AWM can you right click on each dimension and select the option "View data" - make sure you can drill up and down on each dimension. Then repeat this process for each of your cubes. I suspect there is something wrong with either a dimension or cube. If you cannot see data within AWM then Excel will not with either.
If the data viewer in AWM is working OK, then Excel should work as well.

  • Creating automatically "OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In" files (Excel files)

I have the necessity of create automatically an excel file with a query to a multidimensional model (ROLAP Cube). It exists any API for a programation language that makes easy this process of creation?
How "OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In" saves the metadata in the excel file, for example, the information about the database (host name, database name), dimensions and measures selected by the user when a query is made with the "Query Builder"?
It is possible to share any information about this subject?
    Thanks!!!
    Rui Torres

I exported to xml an excel file with a query, that was produced by the “Query Builder”, and it is true that the metadata that contains the information about the database, dimensions and measures selected, is specified in xml and is stored in hidden sheets.
My problem is not to create an excel file (create sheets, write in the cells,...) because it exists some apis that do this kind of operations.
My difficulty, is to produce the xml metadata, that is defined by Oracle, and contains the information that is used by "OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In" to put the data in the cells of an excel sheet.
What I want to know is, for example, if exists any kind of function that receives the name of the host, the name of the database, the owner of the cube, the cube name and all the options that we can choose in the “Query Builder” (measures and dimensions that we want, the disposition of the dimensions - layout), and return a String with the Oracle’s xml metadata.
With this xml metadata that is returned, I am prepared to create an excel file, that have the functionality of to connect to a database, and get the data that is stored in it.
    Thanks!!!

    What is the problem??

  • "OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In" – bug on the page items

I detected that "OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In" has a bug on the page items. It occurs when I have more than one page item. What happens is that all the page items (except the first), don’t permit to select other values. This is, I can click in the ComboBox, I can see the values that the ComboBox contains and I can select a value of the ComboBox. When I select other value, the add-in executes the query (it refreshes the sheet), but the value of the combo is not modified, and the values of the facts aren’t also modified. (The query that is done is the same)
But if I change the layout, and put the page item in the first position, the value of the ComboBox is modified and a new query is executed.
I am using only ROLAP cubes.
The version of the database is 10.1.0.4.0.
I did an upgrade from 10.1.0.2.0 to 10.1.0.4.0.
The version of "OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In” is:
    Release 1 version 10.1.2.0.0 - (build 10.1.2.0.36)
When is done a new version of "OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-In”, without this bug?
    Regards,
    Rui Torres

The metadata is ok according to “Oracle Enterprise Manager Website”.
The version of Excel that I use is:
    Microsoft Office Excel 2003 (11.5612.5606).
But is very stranger that the first page item works perfectly and the others have a bad behaviour, isn’t it?
    Regards,

  • Is there a spreadsheet add-in 9i OLAP

Is there a spreadsheet add-in available to access OLAP cubes for the 9i database. Oracle Express has a spreadsheet add-in that allows ad hoc queries. Is there something similar for the new 9i OLAP option?

    Dear Nathan,
Regarding to OLAP question, you should post your question to OLAP forum @ OLAP

  • OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-in Not Working With ROLAP TIME Dimension

    Hello,
I've been trying to figure this bizarre behavior for a while now.
I have created a TIME dimension (based on a relational table) using OEM and defined the metadata etc. My hierarchy has 4 levels: day->month->quarter->year. I have end_date and time_span attributes defined for each level. I have defined a simple cube dimensioned by TIME and having only 1 numeric measure.
When I open BI Spreadsheet Add-in, I can see my cube measure and the dimension in the list of available entities. I add them to the list of selected entities and hit 'next'. On the next screen I arrange them to my liking and hit 'next' again. This is where the problem occurs. Or rather where nothing occurs. The add-in just gets stuck at this point and no matter what I do or click, it won't advance to the next step.
If I change the dimension type from time to normal, then everything works as expected (although, I cannot do time-series analysis).
If I create and enable an analytic workspace and use it in the add-in, then everything works as expected as well.
Any ideas what's wrong here? I kind of suspect the end_date and time_span attributes are involved somehow...
    Thanks!
    Dobo

The expected format for a relational time table would be something like the following:
    CREATE TABLE "BIBDEMO"."BIBDEMO_TIME"
    ("TIME_STD_MONTH" VARCHAR2(30),
    "TIME_STD_MONTH_LLABEL" VARCHAR2(60),
    "TIME_STD_MONTH_SLABEL" VARCHAR2(30),

  • Essbase Spreadsheet Add-in Menu Control Utility

I downloaded the Add-in Menu Utility to limit access to some menu options. I have followed the instructions as published at http://www.essbase.com/main.asp?webpagekey=330. The last step states that the XLA needs to be loaded. But it appears that I have to manually load it each time I use the Spreadsheet Add-in. I am interested in knowing if there is a way for the Menu Add-in to automatically load when I launch MS-Excel. Please let me know how this can be done.Thank you.

    Hi,
It sounds to me as you are using Smart View which is Oracle's way forward as an excel addin and it is this which will be developed going forward.
The classic excel addin is still available for V11 but will not be continued to be developed. In the EPM installation it comes under the excel client option.
If you have it installed it will be under \Hyperion\products\Essbase\EssbaseClient
If you do have the files installed, in Excel 2007, go to "excel options" > "Add-Ins" > "Manage Excel Add-ins" > Go
This should bring up the add-in window, click browse and select
    \Hyperion\products\Essbase\EssbaseClient\bin\essexcln.xll
    and
    \Hyperion\products\Essbase\EssbaseClient\bin\essxleqd.xla
    Cheers

  • OracleBI Spreadsheet Add-in can only be in one Excel instance only?

    Hi everyone
Is it true that we can have the add-in in one Excel instance only?
(when I started my 2nd Excel, the OracleBI menu does not show up)
    djoni

    Hi
Yes, I'm afraid that is true. Sorry about that. Please don't shoot the messenger. If you don't like this approach taken by Oracle you need to raise this as a service request and ask if this can be added as an enhancement request.
Before you do you might want to fully check out this posting: http://oraclebi.blogspot.com/2006/09/spreadsheet-add-in-refreshing-multiple.html
You might also want to pose this question to the owner of that blog. They are good guys (yes, I know them) and will give you an answer if one is available.
    Regards
    Michael
