Oracle CalDav

After months of looking for a calendar server that is truly cross-platform I haven't yet found one. Oracle Cal seems like it could be a nice product but doesn't support CalDav yet. This is very important because almost all client have the ability to use CalDav (iCal in Mac OS, Sunbird, Chandler...). The key here is that Oracle has the ability to sync with Outlook.
So, after reading a few threads about how Oracle is coming out with a CalDav version what is the status of this version? When is it coming out? Is there a beta?
Or, in the meantime, is there a program that uses iSync or something similar in Mac world to synchronize iCal with Oracle calendar?
-Tom

As far as I know, the next version of the calendar product ("Beehive") is either out or should be out very soon. It was in beta when I spoke to Oracle support about it in late November.
It's a complete rewrite of the calendar product, so for those of use that have been using the product for years (since before Oracle bought it), it's a much more significant change than the 9 to 10 upgrade was.
It does support CalDav. It doesn't support the SunOne calendar protocol (WCAL, I think).

• Recommended mobile terminal for CalDav/SyncML

Hi all, I was looking for a document (if any) reporting a compatibilty matrix between the different mobile phones (e.g. Nokia, Blackberry, Iphone) and their REAL (and I mean REAL) compatibility with the main functions that CalDav and SyncML protocols should present as services on Oracle Beehive.
For instance:
NOKIA XXX:
CALDAV:
- Access to CalDav Account and personal Calendars YES/NO
- Ability to insert/modify meetings from the mobile device YES/NO
- Ability to Accept/Deny meetings YES/NO
- Access to contacts YES/NO
- 2 Way Sync of Contacts YES/NO
- Access to Notes YES/NO
- 2 way sync of Notes YES/NO
- Access to Tasks YES/NO
- 2 way sync of Tasks YES/NO
SYNCML:
...(same list as above)...
PUSH TECHNOLOGY:
YES/NO
APPLE IPHONE
CALDAV
SYNCML
PUSH TECHNOLOGY:
Is it science fiction to even just think of such a document? I don't know how much this question can be interesting, but for instance I was very much disappointed that after upgrading firmware to the 3.0 on my Iphone, all that I can do with CalDav is to get access to different calendars, but NOT INTERACTIVELY. No editing of the appointments, no confirm/deny. Regarding Contacts, it just syncs with LDAP servers, and I don't think Beehive has any LDAP on its own.
The other option is to use a 3rd party software that doesn't work well either and has many disadvantages (not integrated with the native functions of the phone itself)
Well, thinking on a company point of view, wishing to have Beehive, I believe such a document should play a very important part in the setup strategy.
Thank you

You're right... Anyway, I realize that putting down such a document could be very expensive in terms of time and money... But one thing could be done for sure: stating which mobiles are recommended by Oracle as "beehive compliant". 2, 3 models/brands... It would save a lot of disappointing experiences to customers...
And, just to be clear... I'm not blaming Oracle for not supporting all the mobile phones on the planet... Beehive is a wonderful application. It's just that sometimes, if a standard like CalDav or SyncML turns out NOT BEING A REAL STANDARD, at least having some directions would be so useful...

• Getnode returned null for uri error for caldav server

Hello,
I am trying to install the Oracle UCS ( SUN 7 update 2 ) server.
https://wikis.oracle.com/display/CommSuite7U2/Communications+Suite+on+a+Single+Host+%28Linux%29#CommunicationsSuiteonaSingleHost%28Linux%29-InstallingtheExample
So far, I have successfully:
Checked the installation requirements
Installed Communications Suite 7 Update 2 Software
Installed and Configured the Directory Server
Prepared the Directory under ( Configuring Communications Suite Components )
Configured Delegated Administrator and Communications CLI
Configured Messaging Server
Configured MYSQL Server
Configured Calendar Server
I have just installed a caldav server. I checked that it was enabled by running:
# asadmin list-components -p <admin-port> --type=web
davserver <web-module>
Command list-components executed successfully.
# asadmin show-component-status -p <admin-port> davserver
Status of davserver is enabled.
Command show-component-status executed successfully.
that was from this page:

I do not remember creating a calendar account anywhere is my first thought. I followed the example deployment step by step so far and nowhere does it have me create a calendar user account. So, maybe there is no account at this point?
So, my first question would be:
How can I verify that I have a calendar account to begin with? ( or is this what I am doing by trying to log into the sites suggested under 'Test Calendar Accounts').
My next question would be:
What does this error mean: "getnode returned null for uri error for caldav server"?
Spin off question from that:
What should I do to fix that error?
Thanks in advance!

I did not put a slash at the end of the uris I was testing

http://myDomain.com:80/davserver/dav/h/myDomain/myUserName/calendar
Once I put the slash at the end of the uri, the configuration page appeared and the error was not displayed about getNode anymore:

• ICal and Oracle's Corporate Calendar

Does anybody know if it is possible to set up iCal to use oracle's Corporate Calendar?

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I don't believe so, though only Oracle support personnel could probably tell you for sure. There is hope in the near term, however, as both Apple and Oracle are members of CalConnect, the calendar and scheduling consortium:
http://www.calconnect.org
Mac OS X 10.5 will ship early next year with iCal, Teams and the iCal Server components, will will be CalDAV compliant. It's the emerging calendaring standard being jointly developed by CalConnect members. In addition, Apple is already shipping an open-source version of the technology incorporated in iCal Server.
So, it shouldn't be long now…

• No CalDAV authentication?

Iphone does not like to authenticate against my DaviCAL 0.9.9.4 (CalDAV) server.
Taken from Apache's logfiles
Iphone:

Thunderbird and Lightning:

"- -" in logfile -> no authenticated user?
Any ideas to get the Iphone working?
Kind regards,
jr.

OK, in my personal workspace on apex.oracle.com, in the sample application.
1. Create the authentication scheme:
1.1. Click Create
1.2. Leave the default - "Based on a pre-configured scheme from the gallery"
1.3. Select "No Authentication (using DAD)"
1.4. Give a name. I usually call mine 'No Auth'
1.5. Click the button 'Create Scheme'
2. Before I change it to the new scheme, make sure application is running as expected. Click run. Because its the sample application, the authentication scheme is username: demo, password: workspace name.
Ok, that logs in as expected. I click log out.
3. Change the current authentication scheme to the newly created one.
3.1. Go back into shared components -> authentication schemes.
3.2. The way I normally do it is via the the 'Change Current' tab. Click.
3.3. In the drop downlist for the field 'Available Authentication Schemes:', select the newly created scheme. In my case 'No Auth'.
3.4. Confirmation page is displayed. Review and click 'Make Current'
(The alternative to this method, on the list of authentication schemes (report), there is a simple one click link 'Make Current' for the desired authentication scheme. Click that and then step 3.4 is displayed)
4. Verify it works.
If you click run after changing the current scheme, it doesn't work (well, at least it didnt the first time i tried) - it just outputs 'Location: <some location>' on a blank white page, so go back to the application dashboard, and click run from there. At this point, everything is working as expected for me.

• CalDAV Connection?

Dear forum members,
A freind of mine asked me to write an apex application as an enhancement for Apples iCal Server for analyzing calendar based data.
iCal uses the caldav protocol.
Has s.o. ever made such a connection? Or could anyone give me some ideas how to import calendar data via caldav to Oracle/APEX?
Any comments welcome.
Best regards,
Johann

Horvat,
CalDAV integration is supported by Oracle Beehive Collaboration Platform and the Beehive system can then be integrated with Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control. Beehive product details can be found at:
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/beehive/platform.html

• CalDav Server and Calendar protocol adapter

Hi,
Support redirected me here... I'm after information on Oracle's CalDav implementation and any calendar protocol adapters to Calendar.
Thanks

Hi,
As you migth know Oracle is a founding members of the The Calendaring and Scheduling Consortium and one of the author of the CalDAV internet draft. Furthermore we have participated in the first CalDAV interoperability test with a prototype server last January. Quite a bit of information on these topics can be found on http://www.calconnect.org/. What type of information are you looking for specifically?

• Google - Oracle Calendar sync

Anyone successful in syncing Google and Oracle calendars?
I have personal events in one (because of clubs I am with) and company events in the other.
I'm considering doing the following:
Oracle => Palm
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/cs/user_info/ocalendar/sync_client_index.html
Palm => Google
http://www.goosync.com/UpgradeDetail.aspx
But have not tried it yet.
Erik

The exporting and importing suggestion is really the only easy way to do it right now. If Oracle Calendar begins supporting caldav in a future version, you should be able to just subscribe to your corporate calendar caldav URL directly from Google Calendar.
If you are a developer, you could try to write a small program using the Calendar SDK to extract your agenda data into an iCal formatted file (at least I'm pretty sure it can do that). If you make the iCal formatted file web accessible, you can point Google Calendar to the URL and it will automatically download the agenda data into your calendar. You, of course, would want to automate the extraction of your corporate agenda to the file so you wouldn't have to remember to do it yourself.
I'm not a big user of Google Calendar so I'm basing this suggestion on some basic tests I tried. Also, automating this means you would have to have to include your account password in the program you write (somewhat okay if it is compiled but still a security risk). It also means you would have to update your program any time you changed your password.
Soo...if you are willing to do a little manual work and not have to write a program, just export the data into iCal format (.ics), copy it to a web accessible area, and set up Google Calendar to always look for it at that URL.

• Error while invoking a WS-Security secured web service from Oracle BPEL..

Hi ,
We are facing some error while invoking a WS-Security secured web service from our BPEL Process on the windows platform(SOA 10.1.3.3.0).
For the BPEL process we are following the same steps as given in an AMIS blog : - [http://technology.amis.nl/blog/1607/how-to-call-a-ws-security-secured-web-service-from-oracle-bpel]
but sttill,after deploying it and passing values in it,we are getting the following error on the console :-
“Header [http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2004/08/addressing:Action] for ultimate recipient is required but not present in the message”
Any pointers in this regard will be highly appreciated.
Thanks,

Hi James,
Thanks for the quick reply.
We've tried to call that web service from an HTML designed in Visual Studios with the same username and password and its working fine.
But on the BPEL console, we are getting the error as mentioned.
Also if you can tell me how to set the user name and password in the header of the parter link.I could not find how to do it.
Thanks,

• HELP! Can not install Oracle 8.1.5 w/ RedHat 6.1!

I can not get Oracle 8.1.5 to install onto Linux RedHat 6.1. The
Oracle installation script generates several errors. I have
tried several attempts, using different options, but they all
generate errors.
Please help. The Oracle Installation scripts appear to be very
buggy... or perhaps they are incompatible with the standard
RedHat 6.1 release. Either way, it is very frustrating.
I have documented one of my (failed) installation attempts below.
Does anyone have any words of wisdom?
I am installing Oracle onto a Dell Latitude CPi PC w/ 128MB RAM,
a 366MHz Pentium II, and RedHat 6.1 (using the standard Linux
2.2.12-2 kernel). RedHat was installed using the standard "Gnome
Workstation" configuration.
The Oralce CD is labeled:
"Oralce 8i Enterprise Edition
Release 8.1.5
for Linux
(c) Oracle Corporation 1999"
I got this CD about one week ago at Oracle OpenWorld '99 in Los
Angeles... it should be their "latest & greatest" version so far.
1. Pre-Installation and ./runInstall
I created an "oracle" Unix account w/ groups "oinstall" (the
primary group) and "dba" (a secondary group).
I created directories /u01 through /u04, belonging to oracle.
I setup .cshrc and sourced it, containing:
umask 022
setenv DISPLAY `hostname`:0
xhost +
setenv ORACLE_BASE /u01/app/oracle
setenv ORACLE_HOME ${ORACLE_BASE}/product/8.1.5
setenv ORACLE_SID cprtest
setenv PATH ${ORACLE_HOME}/bin:${PATH}
setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH ${ORACLE_HOME}/lib
setenv NLS_LANG US7ASCII
I downloaded jre116_v5 and installed to /usr/local/jre.
Finally, I executed (from the "oracle" Unix account):
cd /mnt/cdrom
./runInstall
Problem: I got the error (from ./runInstall):
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /usr/local/jre/bin/jre.
Please wait...

Workaround: Executed the following commands instead:
cd /mnt/cdrom/install/linux
./runIns.sh

I selected the following options (from ./runIns.sh):
Source: /mnt/cdrom/stage/products.jar

Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition 8.1.5.0.0

Global Database Name: cprtest.parkrussell.com
SID: cprtest
Directory for Database Files: /u02
Then (when instructed by ./runIns.sh), I attempted to execute
(from the
"root" Unix account):
cd /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.5
./root.sh
Problem: I got the error:
"bash: ./root.sh: Permission denied"
The execute bit was not set.
Workaround: I executed:
chmod a+x root.sh
./root.sh
5. Configuration Tools
The Oracle Installer (./runIns.sh) attempted to execute:
A. Net8 Configuration Agent
B. Oracle Database Configuration Agent
Problem: The "Oracle Database Configuration Agent" failed with
the following error message:
"One or more tools have failed. It is recommended but not
required that these tools succeed for this installation.
You can now select these tools, read its details to examine
why they have failed, fix those problems, and retry them.
Or, you can click "Next" to continue."
When I selected the "Oracle Database Configuration Agent" for
more info, I got the following additional details (as the cause
of the error):
"A required command line argument is missing."
The log file
"/u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/logs/installActions.log" recorded:

I'm using enlightenment version 0.15.5-41, which is more recent
than the 0.15.5-37 version (containing the Oracle installer
patch) that you recommended. Unfortunately, it fails when using
this version.
I also tried installing Oracle using twm, with enlightenment
disabled. This didn't help either.
Furthermore, the errors that I'm encountering in the OUI are
not just toward the end of the installation. They happen from
the very beginning, right after I enter "./runInstall", and
continue every step of the way.

• Logical operators in Oracle select query

Hello all,

if i have two fileds in a table COL1 have a value of 1010 and COL2 have a value of 0001.

Regards,

Hi,

Hello all,

All the comparison operators, including >, >=, = !=, EXISTS, IN, IS NULL, LIKE and REGEXP_LIKE are really logical operators, since they return logical values. You can use them in SELECT statements, and other places, too.
for 1 and 0 =0 ; 1 or 0 =0
if i have two fileds in a table COL1 have a value of 1010 and COL2 have a value of 0001.It's unclear what you want. Maybe you'd be interested in the BITAND function:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28286/functions014.htm#sthref1080
BITAND is the only logical function that I know of. Many other functions, especially numberical fucntions such as MOD, have applications in logic.
Is there any way to use select col1 or col2 from table? where or is a logical operator?Whenever you have a question, please post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements), and also post the results you want from that data.
Explain how you get those results from that data.
Always say which version of Oracle you're using.

• Strange scenario,Oracle can not display the data in mysql correctly

I use Heterogeneous Service+ODBC to achieve "oracle access mysql"(any other method?),and now i find Oracle can not display the data in mysql correctly:
-------mysql------------

Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.00 sec)
mysql> insert into tst values(1,'a');
Query OK, 1 row affected (0.00 sec)
mysql> select * from tst;
------------+
| id | name |
------------+
| 1 | a |
------------+
1 row in set (0.00 sec)
mysql> show create table tst\G
*************************** 1. row ***************************
Table: tst
Create Table: CREATE TABLE `tst` (
`id` int(11) DEFAULT NULL,
`name` varchar(10) DEFAULT NULL
) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8
1 row in set (0.00 sec)
-------------oracle ------------------
SQL> select count(*) from "tst"@mysql;
COUNT(*)
49
SQL> select * from "tst"@mysql;
id
1
SQL> desc "tst"@mysql;
Name Null? Type
id NUMBER(10)

You can make the following query on the result page:
"select * from the_table where movietitle = ? and cinema = ?"
then you set movietitle and cinema to those which the user selected. If the resultset contains more than 0 rows, that means the movie is available.
Below is the sample code, it assumes you have a connection to the database:
PreparedStatement stat = myConnection.prepareStatement("select * from the_table where movietitle = ? and cinema = ?");
stat.setString(1, usersMovieTitleSelection);
stat.setString(2, usersCinemaSelection);
ResultSet res = stat.executeQuery();
if (res.next()) {
out.print("The movie is available");
} else {
out.print("The movie is not available");
}Now just add that to your JSP page. Enjoy ! =)

• Oracle, Null and empty Strings

Currently I'm facing problems with a class, which contains a String, which
is set to "" (empty String).
When the class is persistent, oracle writes null to the table column
(which seems to be common oracle behaviour) and when retrieving the class,
the field is set to null as well, giving me a lot of null-pointer
exceptions.
Anyway ... I can cope with that (just a lot of extra work)
far worse is the problem, wenn searching objects, that have this field set
to "" oder null.
Oracle can't find the records because JDO creates Querys "where
string=null" or "where string=''" , where oracle expects "where string is
null" to find the records.
Is there a workaround or solution ?

Yeah, that would work as well, thx, but since I have to cope with
null-Strings now everywhere in my program, it doesn't hurt just to forbid
empty strings on the program side.
In future times I'll test on Oracle first, then porting to DB/2 - this way
I suppose work is far less to garant compability.
Nevertheless ... having to set the bankcode into quotes is a kodo bug in
my opinion.
Kodo knows the type of classfields (in this case string) and shouldn't
send the parameter as a BigDecimal to the database.
Given that, and having only bankcodes of null (only neccesary when using
Oracle), the method would look like:
public Collection getAccounts (String bankCode)
throws Exception
return getAccounts (Account.class, "bankcode=="+bankcode);
which is how a transparent persistent layer, um, should be , um , I mean
... just transparent ;-D
Marc Prud'hommeaux wrote:
Stefan-
Couldn't you just do something like:
public Collection getAccounts (String bankCode)
throws Exception
String filter;
if (bankCode == null || bankCode.length () == 0)
filter = "(bankCode == null || bankCode == "")";
else
filter = "bankCode == "" + bankCode + """;
return getAccounts (Account.class, filter);
If I understand the problem correctly, this should work for all the
databases.
In article <[email protected]>, Stefan wrote:
What operations are you performing to cause this SQL to be issued? You
say you are having trouble removing objects, but this is clearly not a
DELETE statement. Is this the SQL that is issued when looking up
objects by identity?I'm not removing objects, I was removing just quotes from parameters ;-)
A string column... is it also represented as a string field in your class?Yeah ... just to give you an impression of the code:
First we have a class, representing a bank account:
public class Account {
private AccountMgr myAccountMgr;
private String bankCode;
private String id;
Note, that in nearly all cases bankCode will be a number or null.
I have a second class "AccountMgr", which does all of the persistant stuff
(seaching, making persistent etc.)
This class has two methods, one versatile (protected) to retrieve accounts
by a given filterString and one who just returns accounts by bankCode,
building the expected filterstring. Here is my current working version:
public class AccountMgr {
public Collection getAccounts(String bankCode) throws Exception {
if (bankCode!=null) {
if (bankCode.equals("")) {
throw new Exception("check code, bankCode='' not allowed to get
same behavior from DB2 and Oracle");
// if set, quote the bankCode
bankCode="""+bankCode+""";
return getAccounts(Account.class,"bankCode=="+bankCode);
protected Collection getAccounts(Class accountClass, String filterAdd)
throws Exception {
PersistenceManager pm = MyHelper.getPersistenceManager();
String filter="";
if (filterAdd!=null && !filterAdd.trim().equals("")) {
filter+=filterAdd + " && ";
filter += "myAccountMgr==_accMgr";
Query query = pm.newQuery(accountClass, filter);
query.declareParameters("AccountMgr _accMgr");
return (Collection) query.execute(this);
As you can see, in the first method I have to set the bankCode into
quotes, when it's not null.
This is because otherwise a filter like "bankCode=1234" will be translated
in a way, where 1234 is send as a BigDecimal to the database:
[...] executing statement <4239745>: (SELECT [...] FROM JDO_ACCOUNT t0
WHERE t0.BANKCODE = ? : [reused=1;params={(BigDecimal) 1234}]
