Oracle Central Inventory location

I need several - let say three to four cantral inventory location (oraInventory) on one server hosting three to four databases.
The problem is after creating the first database, the other three or four databases default to the first inventory location (oraInventory) created for the first one and does not ask me for a location for a central inventory locaton for the second or other databases.
Why?
And if I can make the Oracle 10.2.0.4 software create several inventory locations - how?
Solaris 10 SPARC
Oracle 10 and 11g

Aman.... wrote:
Are you installing Oracle software couple of times or creating databases? What's different inventory locations you need for?Aman
Yes, I install the software for each oracle database independent of the other database due to the sensitivity of the databases. This also allow us to install CPU packages on the databases in the fields by packaging the CPU and unix scripts. With individual database repository, we can install patches on those databases at once.

  • 11gr2 silent install error - Unable to create a new central inventory direc

I am working on SLES 11 SP2 on zLinux and I am trying to install oracle 11gr2 silently. I was able to install the GI and it is running but when I try to install the oracle binaries I keep getting this error:
[FATAL] [INS-32035] Unable to create a new central inventory directory : /opt/oraInventory.
CAUSE: The central inventory location provided is not empty.
The GI install created /opt/oraInventory and all the files are in there. I even changed the owner from grid:oinstall to oracle:oinstall but that did not help. When I did the install on SLES 11 SP1 I did not get this error.
I am running this command to install oracle: /runInstaller -silent -ignorePrereq -showProgress -waitForCompletion -responseFile /tmp/db_install.rsp
    drwxrwx--- 6 oracle oinstall 4096 Apr 2 10:42 oraInventory
    drwxrwx--- 2 oracle oinstall 4096 Apr 2 10:39 ContentsXML
    drwxrwx--- 3 oracle oinstall 4096 Apr 2 10:41 backup
    drwxrwx--- 2 oracle oinstall 4096 Apr 2 10:41 logs
    -rw-rw-r-- 1 oracle oinstall 52 Apr 2 10:41 oraInst.loc
    -rwxrwx--- 1 oracle oinstall 1650 Apr 2 10:41 orainstRoot.sh
    drwxrwx--- 2 oracle oinstall 4096 Apr 2 10:38 oui
    cat oraInst.loc
    inventory_loc=/opt/oraInventory
    inst_group=oinstall

That was my last resort because the support is horrible. I am getting the same error during the GUI install also if that makes a difference. Its like the oracle install does not know about the Grid installed already in oraInventory.

  • Opatch problem , change Central Inventory

    Hi guys,
i've try to use opatch utilities with oracle db user but when i launch it shows me this err:
OPatch failed to locate Central Inventory.
    Possible causes are:
    The Central Inventory is corrupted
The oraInst.loc file specified is not valid.
LsInventorySession failed: OracleHomeInventory::createInventoryObj() gets a null OiicStandardInventorySession object
I've find that Central Inventory is wrong, because it's set to Grid Agent Home, look follows:
    Central Inventory : /home/oraagent/oraInventory
so, someone can says me how i can change Central Inventory for correct this problem?
    thanks very much
    Andrea

Are you trying to install a patch?
The central inventory location is where oraInst.loc points. oraInst.loc resides in /var/opt/oracle (in Solaris actually, look at the documentation for your platform). So, if you have a central inventory you can point the file to it.

  • Oracle inventory location Help

I am facing some issues with oracle inventory locatoin on a 2 node rac setup. The ORACLE_BASE in my .bash_profile is pointing to /u01/ mount point - which is a NFS mounted volume. clusterware installation went sucesful and now when i am trying to install 11g - it says, oracle inventory can not be on a shared volume and quits the installation.
My oracle home directory is \home\oracle\.
    system has three mounted directories: /u01/ - /u02/ - /u03/.
    /u01/app/oracle/crs - clusterware
    /u01/app/oracle/product/11g/ - plan on installaing oracle 11g
/etc/oraInst.log - has the inventory location.
can somebody please suggest - what options do i have here? any input will be greatly appreciated.
    many thanks,

  • Opatch error: Unable to lock Central Inventory

    A) When applying Oracle one-off patches I get this error:
Unable to lock Central Inventory.  Stop trying per user-request?
OPatchSession cannot load inventory for the given Oracle Home /oracle/VRQ/102_64. Possible causes are:
No read or write permission to ORACLE_HOME/.patch_storage
Central Inventory is locked by another OUI instance
No read permission to Central Inventory
The lock file exists in ORACLE_HOME/.patch_storage
The Oracle Home does not exist in Central Inventory
    B) Researching the error, I find thes solutions...
This error may occur because of any one or more of the following reasons:
    1. The ORACLE_HOME/.patch_storage may not have read/write permissions. Ensure that you give read/write permissions to this folder and apply the patch again.
    2. There may be another Oracle Universal Installer instance running. Stop it and try applying the patch again.
    3. The Central Inventory may not have read permission. Ensure that you give read permission to the Central Inventory and apply the patch again.
    4. The ORACLE_HOME/.patch_storage directory might be locked. If this directory is locked, you will find a file named patch_locked inside this directory. This may be due to a previously failed installation of a patch. To remove the lock, restore the Oracle home and remove the patch_locked file from the ORACLE_HOME/.patch_storage directory. For more information on restoring the Oracle home, refer to section "Restoring Oracle Homes".
    5. The Oracle home may not be present in the Central Inventory. This may be due to a corrupted or lost inventory or the inventory may not be registered in the Central Inventory. For more information, refer to section "Diagnosing and Recovering from Central Inventory Corruption".
    C) Everyhing looks okay. What am I missing?
    Oracle - 10.2.0.4
    OS - AIX 6.1
Multiple database on the server: IPQ and VRQ
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
did you setup a seperate oraInventory for each of both instances as recommended?
    Check the contents of oraInst.loc
(On Solaris in /var/opt/oracle, not sure if the same on AIX)
It should point to the Inventory Location.
May be yours is pointing to the other ORACLE_HOME-Inventory.
I tend to use the Inventory location
/oracle/SID/oraInventory, so each ORACLE_HOME has its
    own non-mixed inventory.
But you have to keep in mind that oraInst.loc needs to be adjusted,
when you use runInstaller or OPatch !
Or is one ORACLE_HOME a binary copy of another?
A bianary copied ORACLE_HOME is non patchable at all, as far as I know.
In this case (beside this is not a supported SAP configuration), you need to
apply the patches to your copy-Source and do a re-copy.
There is a meatlink note describing how to use a cloned ORACLE_HOME,
but again: This is not supported within SAP!
    Hope this helps

  • Central Inventory was not created with rapid Install Version 12.1.1.9

    Hi,
I have installed a new R12.1.1 E-Business environment on HP-UX Itanium-64 bit., by following the below note,
Oracle E-Business Suite Installation and Upgrade Notes Release 12 (12.1.1) for HP-UX Itanium [ID 762891.1]
Everything was running fine without any issues...
But for the database "opatch lsinventory" is giving the error : OPatch cannot find a valid oraInst.loc file to locate Central Inventory.
I have noticed the Central Inventory is not created under /var/opt/oracle..
I did a mistake by not verifying the Latest Rapid Install version as mentioned in the above Doc under "Before Installing or Upgrading" section..
The latest is version : 12.1.1.11 and mine was : Version 12.1.1.9..
Is there a way to overcome this issue by manually creating the central inventory , I need to apply few database patches...
    Thanks,
    Chan.

    Thanks Hussein.
The note has mentioned about registering RDBMS Oracle_home by using -atachhome option(2nd Procedure),do we need to do this for the rest of the Oracle Homes too, like Web Home and Tools Home..?
We have a typical two node install with CCM/Admin on the DB node..,No shared application tier.
Also is it fine to go with the second procedure from the Doc rather than the first one(Note that the first procedure also updates the Local Inventory, so is the recommended one when fixing Cloning or Install related issues.)
    Please advice..
    Thanks
    Chan.

  • Central Inventory does not exist. Skipping central inventory check...

Still struggling in this error, i was able to install 1st instance and works fine , but i want to have Inventory for cloning practice , tried to install new instance still getting this, how to fix this, any workaround ?

Trying local inventory in Oracle Home...
    Cannot find oraInventory

    Hi,
Please let me know if you are cloning or installing.
any work around to fix that after install? You can always recreate the centrl inventory in case of corruption/deletion/did not create by rapidwiz as follows
Note 742477.1 How to create, update or rebuild the Central Inventory for R12
How to Create a Clean oraInventory in Release 12 [ID 834894.1]
or i can try re-install alsoYou do no not need to reinstall.
Please also note that from R12, rapidwiz creates local inventories which is present in each of its own ORACLE_HOMEs
    Thanks

when u install oracle where the oracle installation inventory information store in unix and windows . can we change location of this

Again 'u' doesn't appear in any English dictionary.
Assuming you are not a royal, can you please stop using the so-called 'majestic plural'.
Why do you need to change the location?
If you want to change to location: people here aren't get paid to abstract the installation manual on your behalf.
If you can't be bothered to read it, please don't use Oracle.

  • Central Inventory does not exist

Running rapidwiz for R12.1.1 new installation on Linux 5.5. No other Instances installed.
File system checks errors with the following:
Central Inventory does not exist. Skipping central inventory check...
Trying local inventory in Oracle Home...
    Cannot find oraInventory

I am installing this fresh. There is nothing else on the box. Why do I have to recreate something that was never created in the first place? You never mentioned this above, and installing R12 could be part of the upgrade (that's why I have posted the docs above).
Some of those notes say reinstall Oracle. Is it supposed to create the oraInst.loc file in /etc when I start the installer?Yes it will.
I found a note that say's by design in R12 you do not have to run root.sh to create the oraInst.loc file. So what creates it?
Is there a file someplace that is hidden that say's the inventory is created so don't create it when rapidwiz runs? I've run this install a few times and deleted all the files created each time. Am I missing a file? Please check the installation log files for details about the error.
    Thanks,
    Hussein

  • Comps.xml in Oracle 8i inventory on Windows systems

"comps.xml" file listing the Oracle installed components along with their details is usually found in the Oracle inventory directory (%ORACLE_HOME%\Inventory\ContentsXML\comps.xml). But I noticed on a few Oracle 8i database installations that the file is missing.
Is this file not part of the Oracle 8i inventory or has a different name?
Note: This file is present on Oracle 9i and 10g database installations.
    Thanks,
    Vijay

I don't recall having seen a comps.xml in 8i installations (may be some other configuration can have it). In 8i, it was the .SER files under inventory/contents folder (I guess :-)).

  • LSO 600 Configuration - Central Storage Location for XSLT Files

    Hi,
We are implementing LSO 600 with enhancement pack 2 and I am haiving trouble figuring out what do do with the configuration steps
Enter Address of Central Storage Location for XSLT Files
    and
Enter Address of Central Storage Location for Templates.
The config notes indicate that these can be a directory or network path with the format
    servername\filename\.
As I understand it this is is the address of the file on the Portal Server where  XSLT files and templates be stored. The problem that I am hearing from the basis team is (I am qouting an email from them) "who accesses the share? Is it the server, the client PC or both? We’re running in a linux environment so I don’t have any shares the PC can access."
    Does anybody have any input?

  • ERROR SPECIFYING ORACLE CLUSTER REGISTRY LOCATION

    Hi all,
im implementing oracle RAC 10g on Linux version 4, now i've already prepaired the shared disks on my nodes my situiation is am facing a problem in installing the clusterware where in specifying Oracle Cluster Registry Location it gives me an ERROR saying "The Location entered for the Oracle Cluster Registry is not shared across all the nodes in the cluster. Specify a shared raw partition or cluster file system file that is visible by the same name on all nodes of the cluster".
    Thanks in advance!

No wonder! How can node2 see the drive which is local to node1??? I am assuming this is for your home testing. You need to have some kind of shared storage to implement RAC - typical examples are FireWire or alternatively NFS shares/mounts. There is an article on OTN which talks about implementing RAC using Firewire in RAC. Or you check out my blog entry http://chandradba.blogspot.com/2007/08/oracle-11g-rac-install-on-red-hat-50.html which talks about implementing RAC using NFS shares.
As I said, these configuration are not for other than your own testing....meaning non-production usage.

  • Oracle Installed Files locations

    Guys,
Please explain me why Oracle stores some files (always) in C:\programFile\oracle, though we specifiy different drive/location for Oracle Home.
And whats the significance of that particualr folder and is dere any way to avoid having any oracle fiels in SYSTEM Drive...??
    Regards,
    www.techietraits.blogspot.com

On windows platforms it stores generic used files, such as those used by the Oracle Inventory and JInitiator and its own jre environment.
    - bin
    - Inventory
    - JInitiator 1.3.1.22
    - jre
    - oraconfig
    - oui
What you see installed on other directories, explicitly declared are the Oracle Home related directories.
