Oracle Certification Jobs

Hi,
Would the OCA-DBA certification be enough to get my foot in the door as an entry level DBA? I'm not expecting anything outrageous. I'm just wanting to jumpstart my career in the IT field. I have no experience other than just a simple user and my knowledge of SQL through websites and Microsoft Access.
Thanks,
John

Thanks,
JohnProbably not.
It may depend on location and a host of other things, but there are now a lot of DBA OCA's out there, and companies want experience.
But as always there will be exceptions.
Please note I am not a career advisor.
Possibly consider training as a tester to get experience may be a way in.
An ISEB Testing Certification + ITIL foundation + an1z0-051 pass (or OCA MYSQL) might be a good CV going for entry level. Or it might be totally useless.
You may also be able to develop through a power user route if you get really lucky. And with an Access background you might want to look at SQL*SERVER if you really wish to stay with databases, but you might find really good excel it more important. ( I would prefer to be promoting Oracle Open office and mysql here).
If you really want an entry level database certification consider http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_exam_id=1Z0_870 ... which was worthwhile until they doubled its price .... but it is probably one of the easier OCA out there. But this is proably a distraction and you proably ought to do something else.
Please dont regard any of these suggestions as much use, and feel free to ignore.

    Can I get job after doing Oracle certification at this age?
    Can you get a job if you become certified in Oracle?  Certainly!
    Will you get a job if you become certified in Oracle?  Who knows?
    Professional certifications are not magic wands.  You cannot wave a certificate and cause employers to come running to hire you. Certifications can help you to learn some of the skills required to administer Oracle, or develop in Oracle, or use various Oracle software products. There are companies that need people with this knowledge. I have written a number of articles about the topic:

  • 1Z0-051 Oracle Certification - OCA

    Hi. I am in a fix and so need your help.
    I am planning to give 1Z0-051 Oracle Certification exam(Oracle Database 11g- SQL fundamentals). However, I will be unable to give my 1Z0-052 exam(Oracle Database 11g- Administration-I) at this time. So, if I give only 1Z0-051 exam, then will it carry some weightage in my resume? Also, if I pass the 1Z0-051 exam, then how should I put it in my resume? That I am a Oracle Certified individual?

    (If you need proof of this copy the report from the test center ... you cannot really get from of this from Oracle. Certview will publish certifcations, not exam passes). If you take this online there is no proof it was you you actually took the exam).
    However you are not Oracle certified and must not put that in your resume ... you may only put it in your resumé when you have proof from Oracle you have been awarded a Certification.
    The weight of this exam pass, and indeed any exam pass or certification, can depend on the reader(s) of the resumé; and the nature of job you are applying for; and the strength of the other candidates for the job. Suppose an employer was looking for CV's for a DBA job. Assuming the HR/agencies let the CV's through they might get (in practice a higher number of DBA OCPs might be expected):
    Person with a 1z0-051 pass and degree and no experience.
    5 with 9i DBA OCP, most with MA degrees, with no experience
    10g DBA OCA obtained 3 years ago with no experience.
    Apparently experienced DBA with no formal qualifications and no degree.
    Now the first and last candidates have a high probability of being what they say they are, but the first wuld be no good if an experienced DBA was needed. It would be necessary at interview to be careful to check the others had the experience level claimed due to certifications being obtained though cheating and fraud. Its also worth noting DBA OCA does not cover backups / restores in depth.
    However if what was needed was someone to query database results as a result of some tests the first candidate might acutally be the most suitable .. assuming he has studied the 1z0-051 carefully. The 10g OCA might not have done SQL ... the experienced DBA might feel that was not a suitable job for him, and the 9i DBA OCPs may have rushed (or cheated) their way through 1z0-007 as quickly as possible and would not be interested / capablle of this work.
    (Please note this article is biased against 9i DBA OCP ... at one point my understanding is there was a particularly high level of cheating/fraud against this certification and some poor training from some WDP institutions ... which is a pity for those achieving the certification through due work and good training).

  • Preview: Oracle Certification 2009 Salary Survey Results

    !http://blogs.oracle.com/certification/0116.jpg!
    Thanks to everyone who participated in our salary survey. We are busy working to compile, summarize and publish the results. The information will be available through the Oracle certification website and I&rsquo;ll let you know through the Oracle Certification Blog when it is ready.</p>
    <p>In the meantime however, I'd like to share some pre-release details that are interesting:</p>
    <ol>
    <li>Certified professionals earn over 13% more than non-certified counterparts.</li>
    <li>Years of experience in a role makes a big difference in overall compensation.</li>
    <li>Pay between various job roles (architect, developer, administrator) can be markedly different.</li>
    <li>Professionals who have earned more than one Oracle certification earn more than those hold one, and typically - the more certifications that you hold, the more likely you are to earn more.</li>
    </ol>
    <p>I&rsquo;ll discuss specific results in more detail when the salary survey results become available, and give my perspective on what it means to certification-holders and those considering certification. </p>
    <p>I look forward to your comments and thoughts!

  • Which Oracle Certification Should I Start With

    Hi,
    I'm looking for some advice on which Oracle certification I should start with. Let me first tell you about me and my business goals. I an new to the SQL world but have a firm grasp of the RDBMS. I have also worked as a Business Analyst for a company that is doing an Oracle upgrade including the EBS. I have had to do some very basic queries. My business goal is to improve my Oracle database skills.
    I would like to add Business (Data) Analyst to my job description some day. I would like to be both a Business Analyst and a Business Data Analyst. I have been asked to work as a jr. DBA in the past, and would like to continue to pursue those options. Currently, my work seems to evolve around Oracle as opposed to the other businesses out there.
    Given this information, which certification would you recommend I start with. Please let me know if you require additional information. This is my long term business goal so I will take as much time as needed to get it done. I was thinking I should start with *1Z0-051 SQL Fundamentals I* (11g). Any thoughts?
    Thank you in advance!

    If you get to Business Analyst than you can go wiht ebs certification

    But dont forget those subjects are different from eachother and need different skills to become senior on those subjects

  • Oracle certification or SCWCD 1.5

    Hi all,
    I have completed scjp 1.5 in Auguest. Noe planning to start SCWCD. But I think it is better to do Oracle certification than SCWCD. Please advice. Because then i will be certified in Oracle as well as in java.
    Please give your ideas.
    regards,
    Sajitha

    as you seem to care more about the number of certifications than about what you're actually certified in (otherwise you'd not ask such a question) you should just choose the easiest...
    MCSE, MCSD, stuff like that, are a lot easier than Oracle of SCWCD, so are perfect for you.
    After that, Websphere certification, RedHat, and tons of others. Just go on cramming without learning anything and stuffing that resume with useless certs and you should get a job with Wipro in short order so you can be given an illegally attained H1b and sent to the USA.

  • Oracle db JOBS concurrency

    Dumb questions on oracle database jobs scheduling:
    Assume we are scheduling database jobs with all default values( except what to run,when to run)
    job_queue_processes=1000
    1) If a job is scheduled to run every 5 minutes. Currently if the job is taking 2 minutes to run based on data, now later after few months
    if the job takes 7 minutes to run. Will there be duplicate jobs running at any given time ?
    2) Can the same job be running more than once at the same instance ?
    Thanks

    If you are using DBMS_JOB then, assuming that what you mean when you say that the job is scheduled to run every 5 minutes is that you specified an INTERVAL of sysdate + interval '5' minute when you created the job, that interval is evaluated to determine the next runtime only after the current run completes. If the job actually runs for 2 minutes, that would mean that the job actually runs every 7 minutes not every 5 minutes. If the job then starts taking 7 minutes, the job will actually run every 12 minutes.

  • Which is the best Oracle certification for a programmer

    Hi,
    I have been doing web development in java for about 2 years now. I already have a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science but I want to stay competitive and am considering an Oracle Certification. The problem is that I am having trouble deciding which one to pursue. I am trying to keep emerging technologies in mind and I know that cloud computing and mobile devices are taking over. But I still know that there are many other companies out there that aren't ready for all that. I have found certifications such as:
    Oracle Certified Professional Java Programmer
    Oracle Certified Professional, Java EE 5 Web Component Developer
    Oracle Certified Professional, Java EE 5 Business Component Developer
    Oracle Certified Professional, Java EE 5 Web Services Developer
    Oracle Certified Master, Java EE 5 Enterprise Architect
    Oracle Certified Expert,Java Platform, Enterprise Edition 6 JavaServer Pages and
    Servlet Developer
    Personally, I think that "Oracle Certified Master, Java EE 5 Enterprise Architect" looks the most attractive because it seems to wrap everything into one. But the prep time and costs for this are both pretty high. Does anyone have any good information or experience that can help me make a better decision?
    Thanks a bunch!

    But I also doubt whether the question raised was clear enough for the person to be answered! - just my two cents ....Even if my question was not clear enough (which it was), i would expect someone applying for a senior position such as technical architect position to ask clarifying questions. My point from the beginning was, you absolutely are not qualified to become a technical architect with just a certification. Here is how the interview went
    Me - How do you find out what your browser is submitting to the server from a purely client perspective?
    Candidate - I will put the receiving server in debug mode and print out values.
    Me - What if you don't have access to that server?
    Candidate - Well, its my server.
    Me - Okaay, you open your browser and go to CNN.com and click on a link, how do you find out details about that request?
    Candidate - You can't.
    Me - So you are saying you can't inspect what your browser is sending in http requests?
    Candidate - yeah....i guess.
    Me - Have you heard of tools such as wireshark, firebug, httpfox, http analyzer, tcpmon etc
    Candidate - No, never heard of it.
    I ended the interview after that.Hmm. Probably this guy didn't know what he was talking about, but still I wouldn't necessarily demand from someone applying for an architect position to know the gritty details of development; that's too low level for someone who should be focusing on the big picture. I'd rather have someone that knows how to design and guide people to build maintainable systems in stead of someone that knows how to sniff packets.
    But then again you'd have to define what the architect role in this case exactly means. For all I know it is actually a senior developer position with a slightly better ring to the title ;)

  • Query regarding Oracle certification for Admin path

    hi I have the below certifications under my belt :- 1. Oracle Certified PL/SQL Developer Associate 2. Oracle Certified PL/SQL Developer Professional I would like to give Oracle Database 11g administration Associate certification. For which I can see I need to give 1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052 exams. So my question is whther I need to give Z051 exam??Keeping in mind I have OCP level path cleared for PL/SQL developer track. Thanks in advance..

    How can i get confirmation on this officially?
    Go to the FAQ:
    https://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=82
    Search for 'SQL Fundamentals'.  One of the questions will be: "How long can I use a passed exam to earn a certification? Do exam results expire?"
    The answer is: "Exam results do not expire, but certifications retire, and this affects whether or not your older exam result will help you earn a certification.
    If a specific exam meets a requirement in a current certification path, it does not matter when you passed the exam. For example, if you took SQL exam #1Z0-001 in 1997, you can still use it to meet the SQL requirement for a current Oracle Database certification."
    If you don't trust that -- the forum moderator, Brandye, may come along in a day or so to confirm what I said.  However, there is no doubt.  The question comes up fairly often.  For that matter, I wrote a blog post about it over a year ago (although this would still not be 'official', of course):

  • How To Pass Oracle Procedure Value using Tidal Oracle Database Job Definition to Tidal Variable

    how do i pass the parameter value from an oracle database tidal job to a tidal variable? for example i have this oracle db job that is defined to execute an oracle database procedure and i need to pass the parameter value to the tidal variable.
    SQL tab:
    begin
      procedure_get_user_info(<OracleUserVariable.1>);
    end;
    thanks,
    warren

    tesmcmd is a binary that sits in your TIDAL master installation bin directory. It takes options, one of which is varset which let's you set variable values.
    So you can run a system level script ( a unix example is given below) which can set values for group variables.
    Looking at your example you need to find a way to define OracleUserVariable.1
    Where does the value for this variable come from?
    Sample variable set script:
    GROUP_FILE_VAR=`echo $2 | sed -e 's/\.xml\.pgp/\.xml/'`
    tesmcmd varset -i $1 -n GROUP_FILE_XML -v $GROUP_FILE_VAR
    XSD_FILE_VAR=`echo $2 | sed -e 's/\.xml\.pgp/\.xsd/'`
    tesmcmd varset -i $1 -n GROUP_FILE_XSD -v $XSD_FILE_VAR
    And we call the job using
    setvar.sh <JobID..p> <Group.REQUEST_FILE>
    which are overrides from a file event.
