Oracle character sets for China

Which characte sets used to store data in Chinese language?

yes, if you have a database with a UTF8 characterset you can store chinese characters. If you have a database with a single-byte characters set and you prefer not to change the characterset of the database (because it means recreating the database) you can also store the chinese characters in NCHAR columns and use the National Characterset for the chinese characters.
This way you can keep your standard single-byte characterset and only use the national characterset for specific columns.
For this, set NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET to a multibyte characterset and use NCHAR as columntype

    Hello all,
    thanks for nothing!
Actually i resolved issue. But still i don't understand the problem and why solution i did worked out.
Here is the solution i hope that for somebody somehow it will be usefull:
    1) open ... jdevbin\jdev\lib\ext\jrad\config\jrad.properties
    2) and comment out both rows:

Almost the exact same problem here...
"conn" is an object of type OracleConnection
"cst" is an object of type "CallableStatement"
"xml" is a String holding a well-formed XML document (say, "<foo><bar>value</bar></foo>")

Using the 9.2.0.3 JDBC thin client (ojdbc14.jar)
Using the newest nls_charset12.zip (in the 9.2.0.3 download section under the "1.2/1.3" heading.
    JDK1.4.1_03 (04?)
    Oracle itself is 9.2.0.3
database charset is 'WE8MSWIN1252' (yeah, I fought with the DBA and lobbied for UTF-8, but obviously he won that battle... sigh...)
Also relevant... prior to a few days ago, it worked. Then, the DBA did an upgrade and the charset errors began. It's hard to get a straight answer from him because his English isn't very good, but my guess is that he updated it from 9.2.0.1 to 9.2.0.3.

  • Multiple Character set for NLS

    Hi,
I'm using Oracle 8i database. Is it possible to set the different character set for the database? The requirement is to support the two different character set data, one (main) Japanese character set and other Simplified Japanese. Or is there any other way in which i can store these data (Japanese & Chinese)?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Jayesh

Please don't get me wrong. Currently it is set in the windows database. I did not set nls_lang at the command prompt before import into windows. However nls_lang is already set and it is character set WE8ISO8859P1 the same as the value I specified in creation script, besides the other two values AMERICAN, AMERICA. They are now same in both solaris and windows. Only the character sets are different because I specified a different one. So, is it ok or do I now need another fresh import this time with nls_lang set to AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8 ?

yupp finally i got the solution. . .
I was using connection from tomcat connection pooling.
Hence, even though i was setting the classes12.jar and nls_charset12.jar in the classpath and compiling, -In runtime tomcat was using its own classes in the common/lib folder. . .(which might not support oracle-character-set-178.)
So just added this jars into the common/lib of tomcat instead of web-inf/lib of my project
and things began working. . .
Thanks for the hint jshell. . .

...Sun's not Oracle (yet). You will have better luck on a forum relating to whatever is producing that "oracle-character-set..." output.
    Edit:
Although a Google search for "testing oracle-character-set" yields only this thread. Are you sure that output isn't part of your program?

  • [urgent] oracle character set and national character set !!(dictionary)

    Hi. everyone.
What is the oracle dictionary that contains information of
oracle character set and national character set?
I checked v$database, but there was not the information.
It seems that there are some differences between "nls_* " init parameters
    and the database character set.
"Alter database backup controlfile to trace" gave me the character set of db,
but I would like to know whether there are oracle dictionary regarding them.
Thanks in advance. Have a nice day.
    Best Regards.

I found the dictionary which contains the information of character set and
    natiional character set of database.
    select * from nls_database_parameters
    where parameter like '%CHARACTERSET';
    Thanks for reading.
    Have a good day.

  • Oracle character set confused

    Dear all:
We installed the Latest NW7.0 SR3 for EP&EP core for my Portal application. After that ,i found that our oralce default character set is UTF-8. But some of other Java codes(Iviews,pages..which we developed on Tomcat envionment.)are based in the environment of Oracle character set ZHS16GBK. So iam confused that The NW7.0 SR3 can only install in 64bit OS and a Unicode system. Can i change the oracle character set from UTF8 to ZHS16GBK. Or how can i install the SAP system whose oracle basing on character set ZHS16GBK.
    Thanks everyone.

    Hello Shao,
ok lets clarify some things at the beginning.
A SAP Java system is not "only using" the database characterset, it is using the national characterset (column types NCHAR, NVARCHAR2, NCLOB). You can check this by reading sapnote #669902.
You can also check sapnote #456968/#695899 for the supported super sets:
=> As of SAP Web AS Release 7.00 and Oracle client 10g, multibyte character sets are no longer supported
With these informations you can not use ZHS16GBK.
    > But some of other Java codes(Iviews,pages..which we developed on Tomcat envionment.)are based in the environment of Oracle character set ZHS16GBK
Sorry but i don't understand this sentence.
What is your problem with the java code? Do you have custom tables with column types CHAR,VARCHAR2 or CLOB?
    Regards
    Stefan

Have you tried applying the update by going to Help>Updates within Photoshop Lightroom?  The update should be using the same licensing?  Did you perhaps customize the installation location?  Finally which operating system are you using?

  • Flat File Load Issue - Cannot convert character sets for one or more charac

We have recently upgraded our production BW system to SPS 17 (BW SP19)
and we have issues loading flat files (contain Chinese, Japanese and
Korean characters) which worked fine before the upgrade. The Asian
languages appear as invalid characters (garbled) as we can see in PSA. The Character Set
Settings was previously set as Default Setting and it worked fine until
the upgrade abd we referred to note 1130965 and with the code page 1100
the load went through (without the Cannot convert character sets for one or more characters error) however the Asian language characters will appear
as invalid characters. We tried all the code pages suggested in the note e.g.
4102, 4103 etc on the info packages but it did not work. Note that the
flat files are encoded in UTF-8.

I checked lower case option for all IO
When i checked the PSA failed log no of records processed is "0 of 0" my question is with out processing single record system is througing this error message.
When i use same file loading from local workstation no error message
I am thinking when  I FTP the file from AS/400 to BI Application Server(Linex) some invalid characters are adding but how can we track that invalid char?
Gurus please share your thoughts on this I will assign full points.

I am getting this error message "Cannot convert character sets for one or more characters" when i try to transfer the data from Application server file as CSV to PSA.
    Using T-code AL11
Under SAP Directory I open my file I  can able to see all contents of my file right?
But i can't able to see all my data because of this I am getting ths error message?
I am loading Master data attribute
Is there any limitation on record length?
    Please share your thought..
    Thansk

Which length should not exceed 60.
When i load the same file from local workstation I can able to load no error message
Why I am getting if i load same file from application server?
    Thanks
