Oracle Client 8.1.7 Install

I need to install the Oracle 8.1.7 client on Windows 98. Can anyone provide me with the link to download and install the client. I have already downloaded the the Oracle 8i Enterprise/Prefessional/Personal install for Win NT. Is the client for Win 98 included with this setup?

Yes, the client is included with the setup.
If it is a link that you need, try http://otn.oracle.com/software/tech/windows/ole_db/content.html
When you go through the setup.exe file, it will bring up the Universal Installer, which will tell you what components you already have installed and which ones are not. If your client and associated networking components are installed, you're fine.

  • Installing Latest Oracle Client & ODT for Windows 7 64-bit

I have a Windows 7 64-bit. I would think that using 32-bit Java, 32-bit Oracle Client and 32-bit ODAC would work just fine on this operating system. However, I had no luck getting it to run. Here is what I did and a few reasons why I prefer to never work with Oracle products:
    Installed 32-bit JDK/JRE (1.6 Update 25)
    Installed 32-bit Oracle Client (11g R2) Home 1
Tested connectivity from SQL Developer successfully
Installed 32-bit ODT (11g R3) to Home 1 (installer noted upgrades and new installs)
Failed connectivity from all things windows (ODBC, ADO, ADO.Net)
    Uninstalled 32-bit ODT
Failed to uninstall 32-bit Oracle Client Home 1 (oraparam.ini file missing among other issues)
    Installed 32-bit Oracle Client (11g R2) Home 2
Failed to uninstall 32-bit Oracle Client Home 1 (told to use deinstall tool)
Failed to uninstall 32-bit Oracle Client Home 2 (told to use deinstall tool)
Failed to run uninstall tool in Home 1 (told to download standalone deinstall tool)
Uninstalled 32-bit Oracle Client Home 2 (completed successfuly with errors - seriously?)
Uninstalled 32-bit Oracle Client Home 1 (completed successfully, but couldn't delete folder)
Oracle.DataAccess and Oracle.Web are still installed in GAC. Uninstall attempts fail (access denied)
    Installed 32-bit Oracle Client (11g R2) Home 1
Tested connectivity from SQL Developer successfully
Tested connectivity from .Net 3.5 successfully (using 32-bit 2.0 dll)
Tested connectivity from .Net 4.0 successfully (using 32-bit 2.0 dll)
Does anyone have any suggestions on getting Oracle Data Tools for Windows to work before I try that again?

I realize ODT uses ODP, but installing release 3 upgraded the .Net 2.0 ODP DLLs (which were installed from the Oracle Client 11g Release 2 install) and added the .Net 4.0 DLLs. After that install everything stopped working from Windows land and then it took the better part of two hours to get it back to what it looked like prior to the install. The other thing weird thing I noticed is that although Oracle.DataAccess is registered in the 2.0 GAC I cannot add a reference that way using VS2010. I have to manually add a reference to the file path. Although it still appears I do not have to have the assembly copied locally to run, so the GAC registration seems to be working in that regard.

  • This problem will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components installed.

    hi friends ,
My report Fetch from the orcle database , we installed Oracle 10g and 11g - clent 32 -bit on win 2k8 -64 bit machine .while design time runing fine, but ofter depolyement im facing below issue.
In error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
The execution failed for the shared data set 'abc'. (rsDataSetExecutionError)
Cannot create a connection to data source ' Data source for shared dataset'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection)
Attempt to load Oracle client libraries threw BadImageFormatException. This problem will occur when running in 64 bit mode with the 32 bit Oracle client components installed.
An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000B)
Any help is greatly appreciated, I have tried couple of solutions going through some threads online but no use and place dt tell install 1og r 11g 64-bit

    Hi,
Based on the error message, we should confirm whether Oracle client tool has been installed on the Report Server at the beginning. If the Report Server installed is 64-bit, we should also install a 64-bit Oracle client tool on the Report Server. Besides, we
can also try to bypass tnsnames.ora file when connecting to Oracle by specifying all the information in the data source instead of using the TNS alias to connect
to the Oracle database. Please see the sample below:
    Data Source=(DESCRIPTION=(CID=GTU_APP)(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST= server01.mydomain.com)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SID=OracleDB)(SERVER=DEDICATED)));
    Reference:http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dataaccesstechnologies/archive/2010/06/30/ora-12154-tns-could-not-resolve-the-connect-identifier-specified-error-while-creating-a-linked-server-to-oracle.aspx
    Hope this helps.

  • How to find version and arch of Oracle client installed

    Hi all
I have sles 10 sp2 x86_64 on which oracle client 10.2 is installed. this installation was not done by me!
so i dont know what version/architecture (32/64 bit) mode of the oracle client is installed on the client.
from sqlplus -V i get only the version which is installed and not whether it is 32 or 64 bit. how can i find that out.
    sqlplus -V
    SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production
with a bit of googling i found only the below link which says 10g client 32-bit cannot be installed on a 64 bit system.
i read this Installing 32-bit RDBMS Client software on x86_64 Linux. [ID 1075717.1]
Installing 32-bit RDBMS Client software on x86_64 Linux.
The only release of 32-bit RDBMS Client software that will properly install on an x86_64 Linux OS system is 11gR2 (aka 11.2.0.x)
        * 9iR2 (aka 9.2.0.x) 32-bit RDBMS Client software will NOT install on any x86_64 Linux OS system.
        * 10gR1 (aka 10.1.0.x) 32-bit RDBMS Client software will NOT install on any x86_64 Linux OS system.
        * 10gR2 (aka 10.2.0.x) 32-bit RDBMS Client software will NOT install on any x86_64 Linux OS system.
        * 11gR1 (aka 11.1.0.x) 32-bit RDBMS Client software will NOT install on any x86_64 Linux OS system.
The answer to "why", is that the 11gR2 Client software is the first version that includes syntax so that a 32-bit object is linked.can someone please throw more light on this?

If you have "64bit" string in V$VERSION it means Oracle 64bit is running.
    SQL> select * from v$version;
    BANNER
    Oracle Database 10g Release 10.2.0.4.0 - 64bit Production
    PL/SQL Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
    CORE    10.2.0.4.0      Production
TNS for Linux: Version 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 10.2.0.4.0 - ProductionIf you have no "64bit" string in V$VERSION it means Oracle 32bit is running.

  • How to validate prerequisite for ODP and Oracle Client connection

    Hi.
I have a very simple application on .Net that connect to Oracle using ODP (was compiled with Oracle.DataAccess dll 10.2).
I want to check "connection prerequisite" (application will be able to connect to DB) before installing this aplication on other computers?
How can I check that ODP.NET version 10.2 or higher is installed on target host (registry check is not enopugh)?
I know that I can check ODP entries in registry - but this will not check Oracle Client and compatibility between client and ODP.
Also, if ODP was installed by ODAC XCopy installation - registry may be not updated by new ODP entry.
And - if I am installing on the computer, DB was installed on, Oracle Client can be not installed separately.
And one more issue: When I tried to run "test connection" method from installation, that use referenced dll on machine, that has only ODAC (with ODP) 11, - "Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleException The provider is not compatible with the version of Oracle client at Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleInit.Initialize()
at Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleConnection..cctor()" error message was thrown (policies for both ODAC 10.2 and 11 are exists in GAC (assembly), pointing to Oracle.DataAccess 11 from ODP 2x bin).
So, How and which components can I check to ensure appropriate versions of ODP and Oracle Client were installed and application will be connected?
    Thank you in advance!

    Hi,
You could check for the presense of Oracle.DataAccess.dll in the GAC. Bear in mind you'd also want to check the version and whether a policy files exists as well as a newer version + policy file will work too (but not without the policy file).
That wouldn't confirm the install is valid and works though, and I don't know of a way you could easily check that, apart from perhaps simply trying to run a small exe that attempts a connection to the database.
With respect to the type initializer exception, that occurs when ODP cant find the right oraops*.dll or oci.dll, usually due to the wrong one being found, but can also occur if one is not found at all. Quite often this is due to the application including ODP in its bin directory rather than letting ODP get picked up out of the gac. Prior to 10.2.0.2.20, ODP loads the dependencies based in PATH so multiple homes can cause it as well. 10.2.0.2.20 and higher ODP loads dll's based on DLLPATH registry entry.
    Hope it helps,
    Greg

  • How to run different Oracle client versions on the same PC

I have developped an application (.Net 2.0, ODP v. 10). I must run it on PC where Oracle client version 8 is installed. The PC cannot be upgraded because of a client software running under this version.
I tried to install ODP v. 10 on this PC in different home, but the software using version 8 stops running.
Can Oracle Instant Client help ? But which version, 11 ? My application is based on ODP 10. Can ODP 10 access database via Instant Client 11 ?
    Thanks for your help

The problem on Windows is: The 10g installation changed the default ORACLE_HOME,now it points to 10g and makes the 8.0.5 application invalid, because it runs now in a much higher environment. What I did in a similar situation, I created a batch file, which sets temporarily the old environment (in my case PATH,ORACLE_SID,ORACLE_HOME) and then invokes the application.
I don't know whether such a solution will work for you (8.0.5 is very old, desupported since a long time), my old version was 8.1.7.4.

  • How to make Oracle Developer Suite use different Oracle client version

    Hello,
    I have installed Oracle Developer Suite 10g (9.0.4) on Win7 32bit
When I run Oracle Forms or Oracle Reports or any DB tool (like SQL Navigator or PL/SQL Developer) and trying to connect to remote Oracle DB 10g (10.2.0.5.0) I get an error ORA-02248: invalid option for ALTER SESSION.
Then I've installed Oracle Instant Client 10.1.0.4.0 and made DB tools use this client and error was gone, but I still get that error using Forms and Reports.
So my qustion is, can I make Oracle Forms and Reports use any other Oracle Client but that was installed with Oracle Developer Suite? Or any other suggestions are welcome how to fix connection issue in Forms and Reports?
I have read many threads and some suggested to set NLS_LANG. Done that, but it didn't help :(

The better question is why are you trying to use an obsolete Oracle product on such a new OS and expecting it to work properly? Are you also using MS Office 95 on this machine? Attempting to hack a solution is fine if you are just learning to use a product or just playing around. However, I would never recommend attempting to do what you are doing.
Oracle Forms 9.x was desupported years ago, long before Windows 7 was released. Trying to use it in this manner is risky at best and not something that should be done in a professional environment. If you are a student or just home user trying to learn on your own, I would recommend that you use a virtualization product like Oracle Virtual Box and create a vm of an older OS. For example XP, then install on that platform. If you are a licensed user of Win 7 Pro or higher, I believe Microsoft is still giving away (for free) "XP Mode". Details here:

  • Is there any re-distributable Oracle client

    Hi,
I am development of project that need ODP.NET and Oracle client 9i to be installed with product installation on client machine.I am using Developer install shield 8.0 on windows installer for product installation.
Is there any oracle client redistributable available using windows installer 2.0 merge modules or msi product?
One way is to call setup.exe of oracle client from product intallation.I am looking for alternate solution.
    Thanks,
    Jevelson

I have been looking for something like this for a while, the alternate approach has been to create a response file and call the setup.exe using -silent and -response options

  • Oracle client still required?

Do I need to install oracle client in order to install ODP.NET? Thanks.

The JDBC thin driver does not require the installation of an Oracle client.
I have heard that there will be a streamlined Oracle client installation process in Oracle 10g. I expect that the 10g client and database will be available some time early next year, based on the latest press releases.

    thanks in advance

    - Is the Oracle client in your PATH?
    - Does whatever Windows user your application is running as have permission to the directory you installed the Oracle client in?
    - More generally, what is different about the client machines that are working vs. the client machines that are not working? Did you install the same version of the Oracle client? Did you install it the same way?

  • Error in installing Oracle client 11g on Windows 2008 R2 (64bit) XenApp 6

I am trying to install "win64_11gR2_client.zip" Oracle 11g Client 64bit on Windows 2008 R2 that has been clamped and restricted by our security department. Details of the clamp:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885409
The Windows 2008 R2 server is running on CITRIX XenApp 6.
When we try to install the client on a normal version of Windows 2008 R2 without the Clamp, the installation follows through and successfully. However, when we try to install the 11g Client on the Clamped Windows 2008 R2, we get the error below:
[INS-08802] Unable to instantiate the View class referred by View ID 'SummaryUI'
This indicates the primary issue is with the clamp. My issue now is knowing what exactly is causing the error. what restrictions should I enable from the clamp in order to get the installation working?

  • Problem Installing Oracle Client 11g R2 64 bit on Windows 7 Enterprise 64

    Hi,
I am having problems installing the Oracle Client 11g R2 64 bit installation on my Windows 7 64 bit Enterprise machine. The installer does all the checks successfully, it gets me to summary screen and I press finish to start the installation. It then opens the installation mask where it first says Checking whether Central Inventory is locked by another OUI session. After that it very briefly shows Central Inventory is not locked and then the window immediately dissapears with no other errors. I tried installing at my colleague's W7 Enterprise 64 machine and it behaves a little differently but with the same result. Basically on his machine it never even opens the Install mask, when pressing finish from the Summary it just disappears and never starts installation. I tried installing 11g R1 and that loads the first mask and when i press next it just dissapears. I basically need an oracle client 64 bit installation on my machine deperately. Please help. Thanks
    Alex

One user above reported installing the 64 bit odbc drivers and then the 32 bit drivers. How did you do that? I'm a neophyte to this.
I'm trying to get a 32 bit ODBC oracle driver to work on a server 2008 R2 machine. I downloaded the 11gR2 x64 client from oracle. The install process makes no mention of 32bit vs 64bit installation. After running the instalation I can run the ODBC administrator and generate a DSN for oracle. When I run the 32 ODBC administrator there is no oracle driver available except the microsoft driver for oracle. When I select that it says that I need to install oracle.
I had at first tried to install 11g instant client. However that didn't work for the 2008 R2 machine. It complained about some registry error when I tried to run the ODBC install program. I need to get it to work for a customer asap.

  • Problem with Oracle Client(64 bit) install on Windows 7

    Hi,
I am trying to install Oracle Client 64 bit (win64_11gR2_client) on my laptop and its giving me all the pre requisite failed for "Physical Memory, Free Space, Architecture and Enviornment variable: Path". So i need to exit that setup.
I have enough space almost 130 GB free on my laptop. Also, i cleared temp data. Then increased physical memory to 4096 MB but still facing the same error and not able to install the Oracle Client on my laptop.
Please assist as soon as possible.

Pl identify exact version of Win 7 - you will need Professional version or higher - Home versions are not supported. Pl verify you meet all of the pre-reqs for the install as identified in the Install Guide - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e16774/pre_install.htm

  • Is it necessary to have oracle client installed for remote access thru' jdbc type2 driver?

If I want to use oracle oci type 4 driver, do I need to install oracle
    client?
or is it sufficient to put dll in classpath and classes12.zip in
    classpath.
I can then specify in jdbc url the host:port:sid and not use the alias
    from tnsnames.ora
I will be connecting to remote oracle database ofcourse.
    Komal.

you need the Oracle client libraries installed.
And the easiest way to do this is to make an oracle client installation.
the DLL files should be in your PATH, not classpath.

  • Errors when installing Oracle Client 10.2.0.2.0 on zLinux (Red Hat)

I am receiving errors when installing Oracle Client 10.2.0.2.0 (Administrator) on zLinux. During the install I receive two notifications for File Not Found when the installer tries to create the link for lib32/libclntsh.so.10.1. I hit ignore on the pop-ups and the install completes. The Oracle Net Configuration Assistant then fails to launch with the following error:
Output generated from configuration assistant "Oracle Net Configuration Assistant":
    Command = /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/bin/netca /orahome /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1 /orahnam Oracle_home /instype custom /inscomp client,oraclenet,ano /insprtcl tcp /cfg local /authadp NO_VALUE /nodeinfo NO_VALUE /responseFile /opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/network/install/netca_clt.rsp

Configuration assistant "Oracle Net Configuration Assistant" failed
The "/opt/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/cfgtoollogs/configToolFailedCommands" script contains all commands that failed, were skipped or were cancelled. This file may be used to run these configuration assistants outside of OUI. Note that you may have to update this script with passwords (if any) before executing the same.
I have seen multiple threads relating to very similar errors, but none of the fixes that were suggested have worked. I have double checked the required Red Hat packages and made sure they were all installed on the server. All of the prerequisite checks for the installer are successful. Any assistance would be of most helpful!

Worked with my Linux system admin and figured out that we were indeed missing some packages. There are 390 and 390x rpm's for Red Hat on System Z, i.e. 64 bit and 32 bit versions. Since we are running a 64 bit os some of those 32 bit packages did not get installed. Since our roles are split up, I am kind of blind as to the OS setup so I was not able to catch the problem. It is truly puzzling as to why Oracle would need 32 bit packages even though Oracle client is 64 bit. Regardless, after adding the 32 bit rpm's the installer was able to perform the linking operation that was failing, and the network configuration script ran successfully.
