Oracle Client 9.2.0.1 on Windows Server 2003 Web Edition???

Hi,
I will install the Oracle Client 9.2.0.1 on
Windows Server 2003 Web Edition, but when I run the
setup-program the following error is coming:
'Windows cannot open this program since it has been disabled.'
I think the program is suppressed by Microsoft.
Can anybody help me???
Thanks,
Norman

As Windows 2003 is officially released this week, I believe Oracle will shortly announce which versions of the database will be supported on Windows 2003. Stay tuned.

  • How to install Oracle 9i (9.2.0.2) in Windows Server 2003 x64 - Intel Xeon

I have tried to install Oracle 9i (9.2.0.2) in Windows Server 2003 x64 Enterprise Edition with Intel Xeon (EM64T) processors.
When I run setup.exe I get an error: "The image file C:\Documents and settings\administrator.SERVERNAME\my documents\92021 win64_disk1\setup.exe is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine".
I have to install Oracle 9i in that server but I can't run the installation. Is there a way to solve this problem, is there a patch that can solve this? Anyone know something about this problem?
    Thanks a lot!!!
    I'm desperated!!

    Hi,
    reply to my own question:
In the docs provided with the downloads for Oracle Database Server 9i x64, I found that this version requires either
    - Windows Server 2003 Datacenter Edition for 64-Bit Itanium 2 Systems
    or
    - Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition for 64-Bit Itanium 2 Systems
So I guess, the only X64 platform being supported under Windows Server 2003 (both Datacenter / Enterprise Editions) is Itanium CPUs ...
... though this is not (!!!) clearly stated in the download link (other/newer versions are listed more precisely - I guess it's a matter of an old link: no Intel Xeon / AMD Opterons were available (???) when Oracle 9i database server was published).
So I'll give it a try with 10g database server ;-)))

More relevant info can be found at http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/portal.portal_db?selected=3 ... scroll down to 'Platform Guide' and select the appropriate guide - Windows 32 bit, Windows Itanium, or Windows 64 bit - that is relevant to your environment. For 32 bit, look at Chapter 1 and the sections

  • Do I need the /3gb switch on Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition

I have an Oracle 10g database running on a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition with 16gb of RAM. Do I need to set the /3gb and or /PAE switch in the boot.ini file for Oracle to use this memory?

This metalink doc talking pretty extensively about the setting
Implementing Address Windowing Extensions (AWE) or VLM on Windows Platforms
    Doc ID: Note:225349.1
As you might know 32bit system has limitation of 4G max addressable memory issue. In Windows that's 2G limit because Windows reserve 2G for system. With /3G switch you can let Application address 3G with 1G for OS, if your system has more than 4G you need to use /PAE to address memory beyond 4G.
Of course if you don't plan to allocate more than 2G to Oracle SGA then don't need the settings.

  • Is there a limit for SGA_MAX_SIZE on windows Server 2003 Standard Edition

I have a 9.2.0.8 Standard Edition running on windows Server 2003 Standard Edition. I cannot set SGA_MAX_SIZE to more than 1.7G. I have total of 3G RAM on that machine.

In order to use memory over 4 GB the /PAE flag must be set and Oracle must be tuned
accordingly. As mentioned above, for using memory over 4 GB and less than 16 GB, the
/3GB flag can be set as well. Oracle uses memory above 4 GB by taking advantage of
the AWE (Address Windowing Extension) feature built into Windows 2000, Windows
    2003 and Windows XP.
In order to use this memory, the Oracle administrator account (either LocalSystem or the
domain user that installed Oracle) must have the “Lock memory pages” privilege set. In
addition the AWE_WINDOW_MEMORY parameter must also be created and set. This
parameter specifies how much of the 3 GB virtual memory space allocated to Oracle
should be used for mapping database buffers. The default value of 1GB should be
sufficient and increasing this value could be detrimental, since you only have 3 GB of
virtual memory to use. The higher the value of AWE_WINDOW_MEMORY that you
have set, the more likely it is that you will experience user memory issues. Start with the
default value of 1 GB and tune upwards only if you need to.
Once these steps have been completed, larger memory can be set by configuring
DB_BLOCK_SIZE and DB_BLOCK_BUFFERS initialization parameters. When using
Very Large Memory (VLM) you should use DB_BLOCK_BUFFERS rather than
DB_CACHE_SIZE in order to configure memory.

As I read FMS 2 system requirement, it only support Microsoft
Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition (not mention 32 / 64-bit).

    version of Windows Server 2003.

  • Windows server 2003 Standard edition RAM Upgrade

We are using Windows server 2003 Standard 32 bit edition in our office With HP ProLiant DL580 Generation 5 hardware , We are trying to upgrade RAM to 8 GB from 4 GB but it is not taking, It is detecting 8 GB RAM while booting but not showing in my computer
    property.
Same thing we tried with Windows server 2003 Enterprise edition and it is working fine there.
Is there anyway to upgrade it ?

It is normal. You simply need to use a 64 bit OS.
You need to re-install the OS to be running a 64bit version as no in-place upgrade is supported.

  • Cucm 9.1.2 and Active Directory(Windows Server 2003 Standart Edition SP2)

      Hello!
Can CUCM 9.1.2 support an integration with Active Directory(Windows Server 2003 Standart Edition SP2)? How do I have to write down LDAP Manager Distinguished Name? I can find supporting only Active Directory 2003 in documentations without reference to Operation System.

    Yes, it is possible.
Check this how-to if you have any doubts about the process.

    Hi:
Not the usual thing in forums to use all caps, but no offense taken.
    For password reset, try this:
    http://www.petri.com/forgot_administrator_password.htm
Note that Domain Admin Passwords are handled differently, see the link at the end of the page.

  • How to install Oracle Instantclient on Windows Server 2008 Web Edition

I am trying to install the Oracle Instantclient on our Windows Web server (x64).
    * I downloaded instantclient-basic-win-x86-64-11.1.0.7.0
    * Extracted to c:\instantclient
    * appended the directory to the path
    * created system variable 'SQL_PATH' with same path
    * gave everyone all rights to the instantclient folder
    * gave network service explicitly all rights to the instantclient folder
    * rebooted IIS
    * rebooted the server
But still my application keeps returning with System.Data.OracleClient requires Oracle client software version 8.1.7 or greater.
What am i missing/doing wrong? It seems i have mixed and merged all possible solutions which Google would return.

Since System.Data.OracleClient is a Microsoft library, you'd better ask them.
    Or use Oracle's provider:

    Hmm,
I think you intend to run such a configuration in production later on. My $0.02: don't even bother. Even if it works, it's not supported by Oracle as you say. The answer to your first SR will be: "We don't support this configuration" and you're really alone.

  • Oracle 8i on Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition R2

All the installation process works fine but at the end the database creation process fails. When I see the log file it shows, starterdb unable to run.
There is another problem, the setup does not start from CD. When I copy all the files to hard drive and rund setup it works.

Your are working with software desupported so long ago Mastadons and Sabre Toothed Kittycats still roamed the earth.
And also long before Windows 2003 on which it is totally untested and unsupported.
Time to move to software supported during the current millennium: That means 10gR2 or 11g.
