Oracle Cluster Health Monitor

How many people use the Oracle Cluster Health Monitor and is it recommended?
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/clustering/downloads/ipd-download-homepage-087212.html
According to the FAQ it is integrated into 11.2.0.2 - Cluster Health Monitor (CHM) FAQ [ID 1328466.1]

I would look in the installation directories for an HTML file for the documentation. One of the download ZIP files for CHM contains a file named chm_os_useman.html. I don't know if this is the same file that might exist in your installation, but it is worth a look.

    Hi experts
    I looked in the forum but found no answers, so I'm begging for help...
    I'm trying to install OCHM on a 2-nodes RAC.
    Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2, 32 bits
    Oracle 10.2.0.5 Standard Edition, 32 bits.
    The two servers are named S92 and S20. Master node will be S92.
    I logged as admin on the first node (S92) and created C:\Program Files\oracrf\
    I unzipped the file crfpack-winnt.zip in the directory :

    You cannot install nodes from standalone UI install.
    Try running install nodes operation from full OS Tool Infrastructure zip (crfpack.zip).
    I don't find any crfpack.zip on Oracle website.
    What have I done wrong ?

    The CHM product underwent a transformation in 11.2. Previously it was known as IPD/OS. However, I don't think CHM works on Windows for 11.2.0.1 or 11.2.0.2. I did mention this confusion to the OTN admins previously, and it looks like they might have created a special ZIP file for Windows named [crfpack_winnt.zip|http://download.oracle.com/otndocs/products/clustering/ipd/crfpack-winnt.zip] . I suggest following the instructions here ( [http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/ipd-readme-130657.pdf?ssSourceSiteId=ocomen|http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/enterprise-edition/ipd-readme-130657.pdf?ssSourceSiteId=ocomen] ) and keeping your fingers crossed.

    Hi,
    The GUI (released only to 11.2.0.1) is independent of the CHM version shipped with Oracle Grid Infrastructure. However and right now, there is unfortunately no ETA when the GUI will be available for the integrated CHM 11.2.0.2 or higher (11.2.0.3 for example, once out). The GUI is optional as far as CHM and its purpose is concerned, although it is useful.
    What's command line you are using to connect GUI on your CHM? Your are using Public IP or SCAN IP?

  • Cluster Health Monitor Links not working

    Is anyone else having an issue downloading the cluster health monitor?
    I keep receiving content not found. I have a pre 11.2 database that I would like to give this a test run on.
    Thank you

    Thank youThats right, i tried and its not working.
    Possible workaround: Call oracle global support. You'll get the link in google.
    Or
    Raise an SR with support.oracle.com if you have valid CSI
    The latest copy of Cluster Health Monitor (IPD/OS) is always with the install image if the version is 11.2.0.2 or greater

  • Cluster Health Monitor - Gui does not connect to loggerd on a 11.2.0.2 RAC

    Hi,
    i'm implementing an 4-Node Oracle RAC 11.2.0.2 on Oracle Linux 5.6.
    In 11.2.0.2 the chm is integrated in the grid-home. The necessary daemons are running properly. If I use oclumon on a node i get the collected data.
    The manual explains that i have to download and install the client-tool separately. I get it from otn and installed it on several systems (linux 32Bit, linux 64Bit, a Cluster Node, windows) using the command "crfinst.pl -g <path>".
    Running the gui "crfgui -m rac01" i receive the following output:
    Cluster Health Analyzer V1.10
    Look for Loggerd via node rac01
    +?E: Cannot connect to Loggerd on rac01+
    Reason: Invalid node name
    Note: Node localnode is now up
    +?E: Cannot connect to Loggerd on rac01+
    Reason: Invalid node name
    +...Polling for connection to Loggerd on rac01, duration: 60sec+
    The node name rac01 can be resolved by dns. If i execute "crfgui -m <ip-address>" i receive the same error.
    I wonder that the version of the server side is 2.0 whereas the version you can get from otn is 1.1.
    regards,
    Dirk

    Hi Dirk,
    there is no GUI yet released for the CHM which comes with 11.2.0.2

    There will be a new version of the Standalone CHM/OS for Windows that will work with 11.2.0.2 and earlier versions available on OTN in the near future. The older version that you are using has not been tested and due to the infrastructure changes in 11.2 it is not expected it will work. The integrated CHM/OS that is included as part of the 11.2.0.3 GI installation does work as does the new GUI (CHMOSG) now available for download.

  • Health Monitoring. DBMS_HM issue.

    Hi,
    I am using ORACLE DATABASE 11g R2 (11.2.0.3) and Linux OS.
    I was trying to monitor my database proactively(manually) using the package DBMS_HM. I referred the following link :-
    DBMS_HM
    and many others also but I am not able to get a clear understanding of the topic.
    When i try to run_check 'Data Block Integrity Check' :-
    {code}
    DBMS_HM.RUN_CHECK('Data Block Integrity Check',
                        'DBIC',
                        'BLC_DF_NUM=1;BLC_BL_NUM=23456');
    {code}
    I got error :-
    {code}
    ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character to number conversion error
    {code}
    As per the documentation this should have worked.
    I checked the data-dictionary views
    {code}
    SELECT a.* FROM v$hm_check_param a, v$hm_check b
    WHERE a.check_id = b.id
    AND b.name = 'Data Block Integrity Check';
    8    BLC_DF_NUM    3    DBKH_PARAM_UB4         0    File number
    9    BLC_BL_NUM    3    DBKH_PARAM_UB4         0    Block number
    {code}
    Can anybody help me with this problem ? else please provide me any good link to study database health monitoring in detail.
    Thanks in advance.

    Where is the third parameter   I mean time out.. ?
    I tried this and it worked..
    DBMS_HM.RUN_CHECK('Data Block Integrity Check', 'ABCDE', 60, 'BLC_DF_NUM=1;BLC_BL_NUM=23456');
    Cheers,
    Manik.

  • Oracle Clustre, Oracle Cluster with RAC and Oracle 10g

    Is there a difference between Oracle Cluster and Oracle Cluster with RAC? Please explain. Do existing database codes run unmodified in Cluster or Cluster with RAC environment? What needs to be modified to make existing SQL codes RAC-aware. How to achieve 'all automatic' in case of failure and resubmission of Queries from failed instance to a running instance?
    In 10g environment, do we need to consider licensing of RAC as a separate product? What are additional features one derives in 10g that is not in Cluster +RAC?
    Your comments and pointers to comparison study and pictorial clarification will be very helpful.

    Oracle cluster like failsafe before or Veritas Cluster or other vendor's cluster is meant for HA (high availability) purpose. Which 2 nodes or more can see a shared disk with 1 active node. Whenever this active node failed through heartbeat other machine will know and will take the database over from there.
    Oracle RAC is more for HA and load balance. In Oracle RAC 2 or more nodes are accessing the database at the same time so it spread load across all these nodes.
    I believe Oracle 10g RAC still need seperate license for it. But you need to call Oracle or check the production document to verify it.
    Oracle 10g besides improvement in RAC. It's main improvement is on the build in management of the database itself. It can monitored and selftune itself to much furthur level then before and give DBA much more information to determine the cause of the problem as well. Plus improvement on lots of utility as well like RMAN , data pump etc... I don't want to get into too much detail on this you can check on their 10g new features for more detail view.
    Hope this help. :)

  • ADRCI and Health Monitor Views

    Hi, there,
    Pardon me for being stupid, but I have (honestly) looked at the documentation before posting this thread.
    I'm trying to housekeep some of the ADRCI relations - in particular, the Health Monitor runs.
    I'm struggling to figure out how to list all of the hm_runs which are older than 7 days. I tried to use all sorts of variations on these times and I can't quite get it to pull things back:
    adrci> query hm_run -p "end_time < sysdate-8"
    adrci> show hm_run -p "end_time < sysdate-8"
    I've even tried to 'select * from hm_run' in the command line tool, but to no avail. Have tried it via batch mode too (adrci exec="")
    The other issue I have is that I noticed that if you do this:
    adrci> purge -age 1 -type HM
    This deletes the rows in the v$hm_run view in the database, but it does not delete the related rows in the v$hm_finding view. I suspect that it probably doesn't delete the related rows from the vm$hm_recommendation view either.
    Is there a way to housekeep these two views? Or will they be taken care of by SHORTP and LONGP in the ADR Home control?
    Mark

  • How to delete old runs from Health Monitor?

    I am looking at the 11G built-in Health Monitor (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28310/diag007.htm), and have found that each run needs a unique name (ORA-48600: HM run with name [Dictionary Check] already exists).
    I'm running them from the command line using a shell script - exec DBMS_HM.RUN_CHECK('Dictionary Integrity Check', 'Dictionary Check');
    I want to run these monthly, and although I can create unique names that are date-stamped, over time these will build up.
    Does anyone know how to delete the old runs?
    There is no option from the command line in the documentation, or anywhere in OEM (12c) to delete them.
    Thanks.
