Oracle Clustering on hetrogeneous environment?

Has anyone tried Oracle clustering on a hetrogeneous environment.I have a requirement ,where oracle clustering needs to be implemented between Sun box es and Linux boxes?
Any ideas or Documents wlill be highly appreciated?
Cheers

hmmm... how do you differentiate Sun boxes and Linux boxes? Sun sells boxes which
run Linux. Sun sells OSes which run on systems which come from other vendors which
also run Linux. Some Linux distros are available for SPARC and IA-32 (and other)
ISAs. Solaris support for PowerPC has been discontinued, but I don't think that you
are talking about PowerPC Linux boxes, or are you?
But the only place you can get an answer to your question is Oracle. If Oracle supports
it, then you are ok. If not, then you are on your own.

  • Struggling with oracle clustered production environment

    Hi Experts,
I have a requirement to upgrade Oracle Data Integrator(ODI) from 10.1.3.5 to 11.1.1.6.3 We have a Clustered production environment where N1 will be up when N2 be down and viceversa.
Here N1 and N2 are the ODI servers as well as DB(11g Release 2) servers. They both access the SHARED CLUSTERED database.
From ODI we will generally point the Oracle clustered IP(Virtual IP) which will internally point either N1 or N2 whichever is active.
ODI application wise we are clear about the procedure.
Having some issues on DB related activities.
    1. Should I break the cluster definitely? Cant I do the activity without breaking the cluster?
    2. Do I need to point N1, N2, Clustered IP (Virtual IP) while doing the activities?
    3. Since its a clustered database, do I need to db related activities once or twice? (Twice means, manually on both the servers)
    4. As they are using same file structures (RAC), If the Virtual IP points N1 by default, assume that I create two new users and log in is success. Now i manually point N2 and what will happen if I try to log in to the two new users from N2. will it work?
    5. If it will not work, then what would be the solution for this?
Please someone suggest about the clustered environment production problem.
As this is high priority, early response would be highly appreciated.
Need Expert's suggestions for the sequence of steps that to be carried out for a successful migration in clustered environment.
    Many thanks in advance..!

    This is an ODI question.
Please discontinue your question here and continue it in your duplicate thread here Struggling with oracle clustered production environment
Apart from that, ODI is a front-end tool. If you have any clue about RAC: for ODI it doesn't matter whether your database is RAC or not. the issue is you installed a front-end tool in a RAC environment.
    Finally:
As this is high priority, early response would be highly appreciated. For high priority questions there is paid support. This is a forum of volunteers.
Asking for high priority is IMO insulting and rude.

  • Shutdown Oracle Database in MSCS Environment

    Dear All,
We are facing problem regarding shutdown the oracle database in Cluster Environment. We have installed SAP HA on windows 2003 server and backend database is Oracle.
In order to configure the dataguard we have to create the control file from Primary Database for this purpose we have to shutdown and then startup the database in mount state.
But whenever i shutdown the database from SQL prompt by "shutdown immediate" command and see the status of
database it always remains in open state.
I have tried the following options as well but no success:-
Stop all the instances of SAP and then shutdown the database.
Shutdown the second node and then shutdown the database.
Brought offline the ORACLE<SID> group and then shutdown the database.
    Kind Regards

    Hi,
    ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error"
The above error message comes if Oracle Listener service is not running. Start Oracle TNS Listener service, if it is not running.
You can create control file while your Primary Database is ONLINE. Use the below mentioned command to create standby control file and use it for recovery at Standby database.
    ALTER DATABASE CREATE STANDBY CONTROLFILE AS '/path/to/controlfile.ctl';
If you want to Start/Stop SAP/ORACLE in MCSC environment then refer the steps mentioned in these threads, [thread1|Re: how to start/stop a  MSCS clustered SAP system?; and [thread2|Stop sap and oracle on MSCS;.

  • Advantage/disadvantage in OS and Oracle clustering

    Dear DBAs
i need to know what are the advantages and disadvantages in using Oracle clustering instead of OS clustering.
I will be thankfull if you can provide a table (advantage/disadvantage) for each case.
The OS is windows 2003 and the database is 10g
    Thx in advance
    Regards

One advantage could be you don't need to buy OS clusterware as it comes bundled with Oracle 10g.
So Cost benifit is One of the advantage.

    Hi:
    In a large dynamic Oracle 11g E-Biz environment with 15-20 developers, 90% PL-SQL and 5% Java JSP and the remainding 5% includes OAF/Oracle Report/Forms;

We are faced with putting the libraries and classes on each developers PC for E-Biz vs. the prefered having them all DBA controlled and available to all developers for compiles in a common/read only place on the server.
    Both present issues;
Can anyone make suggestions on Best Practice/approach, etc...?

  • Oracle Installation for Production Environment.

    Hi All,
We need to install Oracle in our production environment.
But since there is no DBA in our project, we need to do it by ourself.
I was just wondering what all steps and cautions I need to take to install it.
I was told just double click on Setup.exe :-) and that would suffice.
I am pretty sure its not that easy, atleast for a production environment.
We might need to set some params, may be.
We are at present using Oracle 10g Rel 1.
Any help/suggestion would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Tanuja

Well, it does more complicate than a double click of setup.exe, especially for a production database.
It's not only about the installation, also think about how do you want to create your database, the storage configuration, database configuration, and backup/recover strategy etc.
For installation, make sure you follow Oracle installation guide,
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/B10130_02/toc.htm
And there are many other document here

Did you find a solution to this issue? We are having a similar issue trying to deploy a Paypal IPN on OAS 10.1.2.3. The IPN messages coming from Paypal appear to be attempting an SSLv2 handshake. In our case SSLv2 is disabled due to our security requirements so the connection is killed by our App Server. We have found that manually sending the IPN messages works correctly.

  • Clustering in dev environment

    Hi,
Is there anyway in development environment to test clustering without
getting the network people involved to do multicasting?
              Thanks.

Try and see if the multicast test across a couple of different computers
will work with either 237.0.0.1 or 224.0.0.1. If you are successful with
either of these two addresses as the multicast, you should be able to test
              clustering within your dev. environment.

  • Enabling oracle TAF on RAc environment

    Hi everybody.
We are using Oracle 10g with RAC and ASM, i'm in testign phase now and i test if the one node is down automatically database connexion will use the other node. Note that we have only 02 nodes. For doing that i ahve seen to a documentation by creating CRM service to enable TAF (Transparent Application Failover). I've created TAF service from Netca and i have the crm service in my tnsnames node1. But when i run the following command:
    SQL> show parameter service
    i should have
    NAME TYPE VALUE
    service_names string devdb, CRM
but in my case i have only
    NAME TYPE VALUE
    service_names string devdb
If any one can tell me why CRM service doesn't appear or how to configure TAF exactly.
I'm running oracle database 10g release 2 on HPUX v11.23 using RAC and ASM and HP ServiceGuard.
    Thanks for your help
    regards
    raitsarevo

RAC One Node in 11g still requires the RAC licence option ! (unless you are running Standard Edition !)
All major hardware vendors (IBM, HP, Sun etc) have had clustering solutions.
SunCluster can be configured to allow "failover" of an Oracle Database Instance from one node to another.
The database instance has to be on Shared Storage.
SunCluster, itself, is a separately licensed product available from .......... Oracle now !

  • Migrating XI on clusters in Unix environment

    Hi,
Has any one migrated an XI or an SAP system on to Clusters for High availability in Unix environment. Can one please help me with this. This is a very very critical issue for me and my job. Please help.
    Thanks & Regards
    Rashid

Yes i have been through it. I have to plan, present and implement the XI system on to the Clusters, now, i know that if you do it on windows you have 2 nodes and you do some configuration on both the nodes. But on the other hand when we do it on Unix we dont have any nodes there. We only install it on a primary node and the systems admins do the rest. My issue is i have to do a homogenious migration of our present XI on to the clusters, Can you please help me on this how to approcah this, the question here is once you migrate your present XI system what will you do with the present XI system do we bring it down or can we still keep it running and if we still keep it running wht will be the confilict. How do we do thins in a step by step sequence. As far as i know we export JAVA stack first and then we export ABAP stack and when we import we import ABAP stack and then java stack. but my question here is when we install XI we install central instance and database instance and then after that we do some configution through visualadmin then after we install the other three adapter engine and .... on to finish the XI installation. but what happens when we do a homogenious migration?
I hope i was clear enough and i hope i didnt confuse you.

  • Client or module information in oracle database in citrix environment

We have oracle 10g database in citrix environment . We are enable to get client information when he is logon in oracle database or application through citrix. How can we get client information in oracle. we want to stop sqlplus or any other tools except our application. How it would be possible.
    Thanks

Sorry I wasn't sure.... But let me try to give you another idea.
So if you want to protect your schema I suggest to use roles.
I mean collect all schema privileges into two roles.
Set default role for your schema user an almost empty role. (create session)
Plus create a full featured role which is password protected.
So you can implement in your application that when it connects it "SET ROLE" to the full featured one with password of course...
This way only your application can use/see objects in schema...

  • Oracle Streams and Hetrogenous Enviornment

    Hi,
As we can use Streams in Heterogeneous environment, then let say we implemented streams for replication between MS SQL server and Oracle and data has to be replicated from Oracle to SQL server then on SQL server side what sort of configuration we need.
And if we want to replicate both data and also user messages then what we would do.

The only place where I have seen Streams being used around me is within Oracle db only. May be someone else can help if he/she has done it.

  • CMS clustering in distributed environment for XI 3.1

    Hi,
Currently we are on BO_XI_R3.1 FP1.8. We have one Linux server on which CMS is running and one windows server on which there is no CMS running. That windows server BO services are using Linux server CMS. This environment is running fine.
Now we are planning to add one more Linux server on which we will add second CMS server for clustering. In future we will have below environment:
    ===============================================
    1. We will have 2 Linux server on which 2 CMS are running and both are clustered.
    2. Also we will have one windows server on which there is no CMS server. All the BO services running on it will use cms cluster name to communicate with both CMS.
    ===============================================
Now I would like to know whether this distributed environment works which has CMS clustering. Will that windows server be able to communicate with 2 CMS running on Linux server. Reason why I am asking is that currrenly we haven't implemented cms clustering. Only one cms is there.
    Please help me in this.
    Thanks,
    Swapnil Rodge.

    Hi Denis,
Thanks for reply. I have 2 more questions.
    1. Once I have clusetred 2 cms servers from 2 linux box, how can I point SIA from windows server to new cluser name so that it will communicate with cluser instead of individual cms. Currently it is pointing to first cms.
    2. Also you have mentioned that second linux server should be on patch same as first server (which is on XI 3.1 SP1 FP1.8).
But here I am doing complete installation on second Linux box and that time I need to use custom installation and need to use  same CMS data base which is using by first server. I think at the time of installation only there will be SIA created and thus SIA will be created on version XI 3.1, instead on version XI 3.1 SP1 FP1.8. Once XI 3.1 is installed then only I will go for SP 1 and FP 1.8 installation. Let me know how I can go directly on XI 3.1 SP1 FP1.8 before creating SIA.
    Please help me on this.
    Thanks,
    Swapnil Rodge.
