Oracle Coherence and OSB caching

Hi Guys,
I have a few queries regarding Oracle Coherence.
1. Is OSB business Service Caching internally uses Oracle Coherence.
2. If answer to above question is YES, then can I install Weblogic without Oracle Coherence.
3. Again if answer to above question is YES, will OSB caching work without Oracle Coherence and if yes, then How?
4. Can we create clustered weblogic domain without oracle coherence.
Regards

Thanks Durga/Abhinav,
The links clarify a lot.
Now what i need to know more is that when i installed Weblogic server (default configuration) and created a OSB server as managed server in wls domain. I could use the OSB caching in business services without any issue. However, there is no coherence server under "Coherence Server" in weblogic console. How the caching is working in OSB when i havn't configured any coherence server on weblogic?

  • Using EclipseLink or JPA with Oracle Coherence as shared cache

    Hi,
    I expect to use EclipseLink with Oracle Coherence as shared cache, mainly with/for Entity Caching.
    * JPA)
    For JPA queries, is the JPA semantics fully preserved when using Oracle Coherence ?
    * Non-JPA)
    Are the non-JPA API taking also advantage from Oracle Coherence ?
    For these non-JPA queries, is the semantics fully preserved when using Oracle Coherence ?
    Regards,
    Dominique
    PS: I hope this is the right forum to ask my questions.
    Otherwise, could you tell me what is the right forum ?
    Thanks.

    Yes, JPA semantics are fully preserved when using TopLink-Grid to cache entities within Coherence.
    Yes, the native EclipseLink APIs can also take advantage of TopLink-Grid and Coherence.
    I am not sure what you mean by "For these non-JPA queries, is the semantics fully preserved when using Oracle Coherence ?" Perhaps you can provide an example of what you are looking for?

  • Oracle ESB and OSB confusion

    Hi All,
    I am using SOA suite 11g. I have confusion with Oracle Enterprise Service Bus and Oracle Service Bus
    1> Is ESB and OSB same ? If not, then from where do i download Oracle ESB ? and what would it do different from OSB (*I already downloaded OSB and was able to deploy and run one of SOA application. Also, I have SOA server instance running on my weblogic server as well.* If I have OSB, is it necessary to download Oracle ESB as well ?
    2> I have seen couple of job requirements that just mentions--- ESB experience required Do they mean Oracle Enterprise Service Bus experience ?
    3> SOA/Bpel application developed using Jdeveloper 11.1.1.2 can be deployed to any third party service bus (including IBM and Mule) ? OR it will only run in Oracle service bus. ? This question is just like for example --- developing standard JSR 168 portlet that you can deploy on any third party portal server.
    thanks,
    pp

    If you are using 11g SOA Suite there is no, Oracle Enterprise Service Bus, it has now been renamed as Mediator. Mediator is now part of the composite.
    To answer your questions.
    1. No they are not the same but they can perform similar functions. Oracle ESB is 10g and is part of the 10g 10.1.3.1 install which is found on OTN, not sure you can get the standalone version without raising a SR you may find it on eDelivery.oracle.com. If you have OSB installed there is no requirement to have Oracle ESB as OSB will perform everything Oracle ESB does, (apart from domain values maps, but this can be done in BPEL)
    2. ESB is a generic term and does not mean it is Oracle, as there are many ESB out there. I would say OSB if it is an Oracle job, but you may need to know both. If you know mediator you will know Oracle ESB so you don't need to download.
    3. You don't deploy SOA/BPEL into a service bus. They are deployed to and application server where SOA Suite is deployed. At this time SOA Suite is only certified with Oracle Web Logic but other app servers will be coming. Having said that your SOA/BPEL application can consume services on other application servers as long as the WSDL and endpoint are accessible from the your SOA Suite machine. They will be treated as web services. The JSR168 standard means that if your portal solution is JSR168 compliant then you can consume JSR168 portlets, these portlets can be deployed on any 3rd party app server.
    cheers
    James
    PS Oracle owns Mule as well.

  • Big difference between Oracle NoSQL and Oracle Coherence

    As an Oracle integration partner we use all kinds of Oracle products. One of the products that Oracle has in their stack is Coherence. Off course Coherence can do more than a standard NoSQL, however you can also use Coherence as a NoSQL solution. When should one choose Oracle Coherence and when Oracle NoSQL if one wants to use a simple key-value store.

    Hello,
    In general, Coherence is a mid-tier caching solution. Oracle NoSQL Database is a persistence solution for unstructured or semi-structured data.

  • Tutorial for Oracle Coherence Release 3.6 does not work

    I am new to Oracle Coherence and just download the newest release 3.6 of coherence together with JDveloper (Studio Edition Version 11.1.1.3.0, Build JDEVADF_11.1.1.3.PS2_GENERIC_100408.2356.5660) and started to go throught the tutorial step by step. Having completed chapter 1 and 2 and started to work on chapter 3: Accessing the Data Grid from Java and get stuck with the sampleas code related to classes "MyFirstSample" and "MyFirstSampleReader". According to the doc once the cahce-server is running (by running cache-server.cmd in dos) then
    run a) MyFirstSample which will put an "Name" entry to myCache and exit
    b) run MyFirstSampleReader which will retrieve the entry "Name" populated with "MyFirstSample". But i got null value back.

  • Oracle Coherence database sync while table refresh

    Hello,
    I am using Oracle Coherence to cache a database table for read only puposes. However, my question is that this table needs to be fully refreshed every night and during this time I want to retain the cache in Oracle Coherence and do not want it to be recycled as well since it has to be available 24X7. Is there a way to do that? I am thinking of using a custom CacheStore class that will have its own local cache of the table or the other approach will be to look up in the shadow table while the primary table is being refreshed? Are there any other optimum ways to do this? The primary consideration for me is fast response.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jay

    Hi Jay,
    No, I am not suggesting to stop or start the JVMs. Everything will continue run as it was running ...
    The Nightly refresh process that loads the data will load in non-active version of the cache (dataCache). Once the load is completed, it will update the MarkerCache (markerCache) with this version. All the client requests will follow something like this:
    //Lookup in markerCache which version of the data cache is active
    NamedCache markerCache=CacheFactory.getCache("markerCache");
    String str=markerCache.get("dataCacheName");
    //The cache which has the refreshed and updated data (dataCachev1 or dataCachev2)
    NamedCache dataCache=CacheFactory.getCache(str);
    For the nightly refresh process, you will do something like this:
    NamedCache markerCache=CacheFactory.getCache("markerCache");
    String str=markerCache.get("dataCacheName");
    if ("dataCachev1".equals(str)){
           NamedCache newDataCache=CacheFactory.getCache("dataCachev2");
           //load the data{ }
           //update the marker Cache with this newly loaded cache; from now on the client will start using this newly loaded cache
           markerCache.get("dataCacheName","dataCachev2");
           // wait for few minutes to let all the old request complete
           //destroy the old cache
           CacheFactory.getCache("dataCachev1").destroy();
    } else{
        //do the reverse for dataCachev1 and dataCachev2
    }The only thing you need to note is that there might still be some requests using the dataCachev1 when it is destroyed so you need to handle the exception gracefully at the client application.
    Please note, that you should optimize the code to minimize the time spent in lookup of the markerCache by using Maplisteners as appropriate.
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,
    NJ

  • How to put the data into cache and distribute to nodeusing oracle coherence

    Hi Friends,
    i am having some random number data writing into file,from that file i am reading the data and i want to put into cache,how can i put the data into cache and partition this data into different nodes ( machines) to caluculate like S.D,variance..etc..like that.(or how can i implement montecarlo using oracle coherence) if any one know plz suggest me with flow.
    Thank you.

  • Using Coherence and Oracle Database as the CacheStore

    We are working on implementing a solution using Coherence and Oracle Database as the CacheStore. We initially implemented the Cache as a distributed-scheme which in turn uses the backing-map-scheme. We are trying to introduce transaction management and I used a scheme-ref in a transactional-scheme to point to an already existing distributed-scheme. However when I bring up the server, my custom coherence-cache-config.xml file is not recognized and Coherence comes up with the default setting. Given below is the snippet of my configuration file.
    1)     I would like to understand why the below configuration doesn’t work and am I doing it the right way? If not, what is the correct way of doing it?
    2)     There are a multiple transaction management options given in the documentation. Which are the ones that will work with a distributed-scheme and read-write-backing-map-scheme?
    3)     If transactional-schemes cannot work with distributed-scheme, what is the best way to have a distributed cache with a oracle database as a cache store?
    <caching-scheme-mapping>
    <cache-mapping>
    <cache-name>id<cache-name>
    <scheme-name>example-transactional<scheme-name>
    </cache-mapping>
    </caching-scheme-mapping>
    <caching-schemes>
    <transactional-scheme>
    <scheme-name>example-transactional</scheme-name>
    <scheme-ref>distributedcustomcache</scheme-ref>
    <thread-count>10</thread-count>
    </transactional-scheme>
    <distributed-scheme>
    <scheme-name>distributedcustomcache</scheme-name>
    <service-name>DistributedCache</service-name>
    <backing-map-scheme>
    <read-write-backing-map-scheme>
    <internal-cache-scheme>
    <local-scheme>
    <!--scheme-ref>categories-eviction</scheme-ref-->
    <scheme-name>inMemory</scheme-name>
    </local-scheme>
    </internal-cache-scheme>
    <cachestore-scheme>
    <class-scheme>
    <class-name>spring-bean:coherenceCacheStore</class-name>
    <init-params>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>setEntityName</param-name>
    <param-value>{cache-name}</param-value>
    </init-param>
    </init-params>
    </class-scheme>
    </cachestore-scheme>
    <!--refresh-ahead-factor>0.5</refresh-ahead-factor-->
    </read-write-backing-map-scheme>
    </backing-map-scheme>
    <autostart>true</autostart>
    </distributed-scheme>

    Hi,
    If you look at the documentation for transactional-scheme here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24290_01/coh.371/e22837/appendix_cacheconfig.htm#BHCIABHA
    you will see that it says The transactional-scheme element defines a transactional cache, which is a specialized distributed cache. That means that a transactional-scheme is already a distributed-scheme.
    You will see from the same documentation above that there is no way in a transactional-scheme to configure things like cache-stores or listeners or even the backing-map-scheme as these are not supported on a transactional-scheme - so you cannot use a cache store.
    Personally I would not use transactional-scheme unless you have some really big reason to do so - the restrictions far outweigh any perceived advantage of having a transaction. There are better ways to build applications so they do not require transactions, that is what we have been doing for years with Coherence so far, and there is no real reason to change that.

  • Oracle Coherence Examples with Oracle SOA suite 11.1.1.4.0 and JDeveloper.

    Hi,
    I am new to Oracle Coherence. I was looking for examples implementing Oracle Coherence step by step so as to get a basic understanding using JDeveloper but most of the examples available are using Oracle Service Bus and Eclipse.
    Could anyone please help me in providing link with examples using Oracle Coherence with Oracle SOA suite 11.1.1.4.0 and JDeveloper.
    Thanks for the needful.
    Cheers,
    Varun

    Hi Varun,
    Please find the answers to your questions below:
    1) Could you please let me know how to use this system property -Dtangosol.coherence.override in my application so that I can coordinate between the cluster used by my application and the one started for using Coherence Node.
    You need to specify this property in the Java Options of your server or cache node startup script.
    2) I was trying to understand how to use this tangosol-coherence-override.xml but the document is pretty confusing. I am not able to understand that whether I am suppose to use it at server level or at application level.
    I would suggest extract the coherence.jar and you it would be important for you to have a look at the tangosol-coherence.xml and tangosol-coherence-override.xml. This file is used to override any of the properties specified in tangosol-coherence.xml for your cluster configuration for example, clustername, multicast ip and port or WKA for unicast, logging and so on.
    3) Another point is how to coordinate among tangosol-coherence-override.xml, coherence-cache-config.xml and -Dtangosol.coherence.override system property from my application
    Ideally you should specify in the java options of your application startup but you can also sepcify using System.setProperty("property", "value") in you code for specifying the various properties
    4) How to use the cache updating mechanisms from an application?
    I am not clear what do you mean by cache updating mechanisms? If you mean how you can update the cache from application then you can use simple Put, Entry Processor and so on. Refer NamedCache APIs to start with for operations but there many other ways to update the cache from within application or otherwise
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,
    NJ

  • Oracle Coherence*Web and BlazeDS: Multiple FlexSessions created for the same HttpSession

    Hi all,
    I have searched this forum and found a lot of good information from Alex Glosband and others about the infamous "Detected duplicate HTTP - based FlexSessions, generally due to the remote host disabling session cookies. Session coolkies must be enable to manage the client connection correctly." message.
    It seems, however, none of the cases are identical to ours. This is ours:
    - Resin 3.1.9
    - Oracle Coherence 3.7.1 with Coherence*Web (session replication)
    With this setup we get the "Detected duplicate HTTP..." message on the first attempt to use BlazeDS and on every subsequent call.  The same client and server code works fine in a local sessions setup.  With Coherence 3.3 (currently our production environment) it seems to occur less frequently, but still as frequent as it is a major issue for us.  It fails even with a single node using in-process distributed caching in our test setup (as well as with multi node out of process caching in our staging environment, for Coherence knowledgeable the resin app server runs with tangosol.coherence.session.localstorage=true in the first case and false in the second).
    Both the listener and message broker are mapped as "Coherence aware" in web.xml[1] so that they should use clustered sessions.
    We have been digging a bit and we found out that if we commented out lines 427 and 434 of flex.messaging.endpoints.BaseHTTPEndpoint from version 4.0.0.14931 it seems to mask the bug.  We added some logging in the setupFlexClient method and it seems that we get more or less a new FlexSession for each and every call - but they have the same cookie and thus underlying HttpSession. I.e. the list returned from flexClient.getFlexSessions() keeps growing. Thus we are not so keen on going to production with that memory leak and the above mentioned ugly hack of commenting out the detection of duplicates.
    We use request scope for the remote object, but could in theory use any scope as we do not really have any state on the object itself, it is all HttpSession state and return values that are key (logon is performed prior to doing the first blaze call, in pure forms and ajax, and it is not a timing issue in that regard we are seeing).
    Hope someone can shed some light on what can be happening. Is there any "reference testing"[2] or something when the FlexSessions are created that makes them being created as new? Where are they created?  We do not know the inner workings of the BlazeDS source, we just watched the call trace of the unwanted invalidation and found that to be line 427 of flex.messaging.endpoints.BaseHTTPEndpoint.
    Can we disable FlexSessions?  Since the flex and plain html parts of the app share the sessions, we always use FlexContext.getHttpRequest().getSession() anyway, never storing any state directly in the FlexSession or on the remote object. Or maybe there is a config option to help us with this detection (or creation) of multiple FlexSessions?
    Cheers and TIA,
    -S-
    [1] - For instance, this i the message broker servlet def:
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>MessageBrokerServlet</servlet-name>
      <display-name>MessageBrokerServlet</display-name>
    <servlet-class>com.tangosol.coherence.servlet.api22.ServletWrapper</servlet-class>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>coherence-servlet-class</param-name>
    <param-value>flex.messaging.MessageBrokerServlet</param-value>
    </init-param>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>services.configuration.file</param-name>
    <param-value>/WEB-INF/flex/services-config.xml</param-value>
    </init-param>
    <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>
    </servlet>
    [2] - As you undertstand this is speculation based on pure air, but it could be that in Coherence there was a serialization/deserialization happening somehow that would break such a test?

    Just a quick update, it seems things are running in a stable fashion (and without visible memory leaks, just keeping the latest FlexSession) with these changes in BaseHTTPEndpoint:
         * Overrides to guard against duplicate HTTP-based sessions for the same FlexClient which will occur if the remote host has disabled session
         * cookies.
         * @see AbstractEndpoint#setupFlexClient(String)
        @Override
        public FlexClient setupFlexClient(String id) {
            log.debug("setupFlexClient start id " + id);
            FlexClient flexClient = super.setupFlexClient(id);
            // Scan for duplicate HTTP-sessions and if found, invalidate them and throw a MessageException.
            // A request attribute is used to deal with batched AMF messages that arrive in a single request by trigger multiple passes through this
            // method.
            boolean duplicateSessionDetected = (FlexContext.getHttpRequest().getAttribute(REQUEST_ATTR_DUPLICATE_SESSION_FLAG) != null);
            if (!duplicateSessionDetected) {
                List<FlexSession> sessions = flexClient.getFlexSessions();
                log.debug("Client has " + sessions.size() + " sessions.");
                int n = sessions.size();
                if (n > 1) {
                    int count = 0;
                    for (int i = 0; i < n; i++) {
                        if (sessions.get(i) instanceof HttpFlexSession)
                            count++;
                        if (count > 1) {
                            FlexContext.getHttpRequest().setAttribute(REQUEST_ATTR_DUPLICATE_SESSION_FLAG, Boolean.TRUE);
                            duplicateSessionDetected = true;
                            break;
            // If more than one was found, remote host isn't using session cookies. Kill all duplicate sessions and return an error.
            // Simplest to just re-scan the list given that it will be very short, but use an iterator for concurrent modification.
            int i = 0;
            if (duplicateSessionDetected) {
                List<FlexSession> sessions = flexClient.getFlexSessions();
                log.debug("Detected sessions from client: " + sessions);
                for (FlexSession session : sessions) {
                    if (session instanceof HttpFlexSession && i < sessions.size()) {
    //                    log.debug("----> sessionId: " + session.getId());
    //                    Enumeration e1 = session.getAttributeNames();
    //                    while (e1.hasMoreElements()) {
    //                        Object key = e1.nextElement();
    //                        log.debug("--------->" + key + "--------->" + session.getAttribute((String) key));
    //                    session.invalidate();
                        flexClient.sessionDestroyed(session);
                    i++;
                // Return an error to the client.
    //            DuplicateSessionException e = new DuplicateSessionException();
    //            e.setMessage(ERR_MSG_DUPLICATE_SESSIONS_DETECTED);
    //            throw e;
            return flexClient;
    It is not exactly beautiful (to say the least), but if it does the trick I might just be pragmatic enough to go with it... NB: I am of course not proposing this as a patch to this file or anything, it is just an ugly hack for our specific case, but maybe the information can help the BlazeDS team find the root cause making it incompatible with Coherence*Web.
    Will give it a test run on our staging servers.

  • How to get Oracle Coherence caching running within CQ5

    I've been trying to get Oracle Coherence running within CQ5 and I'm having problems with the setup.  First, I've been successful in creating an OSGi bundle jar from coherence.jar and it does deploy successfully through the Felix OSGi console.  But when I try to execute code using the Coherence classes, I get RMI marshalling run-time errors.  I've resolved the other run-time errors that have to do with the Import-Package definition in manifest.mf for the bundle.  I believe that the root problem that I'm facing is the deployment of the files tangosol-coherence-override.xml and the additional xml file that it points to.  I don't believe that these two files are being found within CQ5 correctly.  I've tried placing these files in the following locations:
    1.  Within coherence.jar itself (at the root directory)
    2.  In the CQ5 application's install folder
    3.  In the CQ5 application's src/main/resources folder
    Has anyone ever deployed Oracle Coherence in CQ5 or can give me a suggestion on what to try?  I appreciate any help or ideas.
    Thanks!  - Charlie

    There are 3 options which is described below. The steps may slightly vary based on cq & Oracle Coherence version. The details mentioned below are for cq5.4 & Coherence 3.7.1
    Option 1:-  Oracle recommended way
    *     Create a basic Web application directory
    /Sample.jsp
    /WEB-INF/web.xml
    /WEB-INF/classes/tangosol-coherence-override.xml
    /WEB-INF/lib/coherence.jar
    *     jar -cvf hello.war *
    *     Deploy the hello.war file by going to cq servlet engine at http://<host>:<port>/admin
    *     Access your sample with http://<host>:<port>/<contextroot>/Sample.jsp
    Option 2:-  Combination of Option 1 & Option 3
    *      Stop the cq
    *      Place coherence.jar at <CQ_Install_Dir>/crx-quickstart/server/runtime/0/_/WEB-INF/lib/
    *      Place tangosol-coherence-override.xml and all additional xml files at <CQ_Install_Dir>/crx-quickstart/server/runtime/0/_/WEB-INF/classes/
    *      Modify <CQ_Install_Dir>/crx-quickstart/launchpad/sling.properties to add below properties
    sling.bootdelegation.com.tangosol.net.cache=com.tangosol.net.cache
    sling.bootdelegation.com.tangosol.net=com.tangosol.net
    sling.bootdelegation.com.tangosol.util=com.tangosol.util
    *       Start the cq
    *       Verify jsp script etc... by putting into cache.. Same thing like
            <%
                String key = "k2";
                String value = "Hello World from cq!";
    ClassLoader oldLoader = Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader();
    ClassLoader newLoader = com.tangosol.net.CacheFactory.class.getClassLoader();
    Thread.currentThread().setContextClassLoader(newLoader);
                CacheFactory.ensureCluster();
                NamedCache cache = CacheFactory.getCache("hello-example");
                cache.put(key, value);
                out.println((String)cache.get(key));
                CacheFactory.shutdown();
    Thread.currentThread().setContextClassLoader(oldLoader);
             %>
    Option 3 :-   The one you are trying by creating an OSGi bundle jar from coherence.jar & prefeerd approach also. I haven't tried this approach but just throughing some thaughts.
    *    From some of oracle seminors I remembered oracle had a plans to have OSGi jar for Coherence. Try to get that instead of building the one ourself.
    *    If it is not available then Looking at your problem as a workaround i can think of is try with putting the XML file in the repository  & load xml in java class something like as
    getClass().getClassLoader().getResourceAsStream("tangosol-coherence-override.xml")

  • What are the prerequisites to install and configure Oracle Coherence 3.4

    What are the prerequisites to install and configure an Oracle Coherence (3.4 Grid version) on RHEL5.0 system?
    I want to make an Oracle Coherence Gid Data system for testing purpose using 3 machines.
    What kind of network configuration is OK?
    What software should be installed in advance?
    Thank you

    Hi,
    I would read through the Testing and Tuning section of the following page.
    http://coherence.oracle.com/display/COH34UG/Usage+(Full)
    Even though you are not about to go into production I think the Production Checklist has some very useful information.

  • Query result caching on oracle 9 and 10 vs indexing

    I am trying to improve performance on oracle 9i and 10g.
    We use some queries that take up to 30 minutes to execute.
    I heard that there are some products to cache query results.
    Would this have any advantage over using indexes or materialized views?
    Does anyone know any products that I can use to cache the results of this queries on disk?
    Personally I think that by using the query result caching I would reduce the cpu time needed to process the query.
    Is this true?

    Your message post pushes all the wrong buttons starting with the fact that 9i and 10g are marketing labels not version numbers.
    You don't tune queries by spending money and throwing resources at them. You tune them by identifying the problem queries, running explain plans, visualizing their output using DBMS_XPLAN, and addressing the root cause.
    If you want help post full version numbers, the SQL statements, and the DBMS_XPLAN outputs.
