Oracle complete reference: can i begin with it?

hello everyone!
i am a beginner in oracle with some experience in mysql and php.
i am thinking to begin with oracle by studying Oracle Database 10G - The Complete Reference 2004 book by oracle press.
could you tell me your opinion?
would it be better to begin with A seperate book for each oracle product (PL/SQL, SQL*PLUS, etc)?
what do you think i have to begin learning? i plan to use PHP in future as a programming language with oracle.

I haven't read this particular book, but Oracle Press books in general are pretty reasonable, so it's probably not a bad place to start.
Personally, though, I'd start with the freely available documentation on http://tahiti.oracle.com and the tutorials and example on OTN. If you like to curl up with a good book, I'd recommend Tom Kyte's Expert Oracle One on One and Expert Oracle Database Architecture.

I have noticed that the Installation of OAS Release 3 (10.1.3.1.0) there are files missing, such as EMCTL
And there are other issues like logging into the Enterprise Manager (invalid password) when the password is correct.
I am going out of my mind trying to get this configured so I thought going back to Release 2 where some of these files are prevalent

I need to know the Oracle apps can be installed with domain name like <xyz>.co.nz on Linux AS-4 environment.
if so please discuss anything other than normal procedure I have to take care?

If your domain name has two characters, then you may run into the Microsoft IE 6 bug "Internet Explorer Does Not Set a Cookie for Two-Letter Domains" described in Microsoft article Q310676. The fix for this issue is described in the Microsoft article.

Apart from the above, you should not have any issue.

Solaris 10,oracle 10g question- can't connect with non-dba user

I've installed the Oracle10g suite, enterprise edition ( 10.2.0.1). I've created a database called qa10g, which I can connect to as user 'oracle' once I export the ORACLE_SID and the ORACLE_HOME
export ORACLE_HOME=/oracle/10g2
export ORACLE_SID=qa10g
then I type in the following at it puts me into sqlplus:
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/sqlplus system/system
so that works fine..now whan I try to log in as another user that isn't a member of the dba group, and I export the ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID variables, I can't get in to the database using $ORACLE_HOME/bin/sqlplus system/system, I get the following errors:
ERROR:
ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
SVR4 Error: 2: No such file or directory
Enter user-name:
BUT, when I put the connector string at the end, I can get in:
$ORACLE_HOME/bin/sqlplus system/system@qa10g
Connected to:
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
With the Partitioning, Oracle Label Security, OLAP and Data Mining Scoring Engin

so obviously, it is an enviromnet variable that isn't getting set properly, perhaps even ORACLE_SID=qa10g isn't working properly for the non-dba user ( in this case, the user is called ctronsys)
for the work I need to do on this databse, I need to have the user I select to be able to log into the database with sqlplus commands like the ones listed above, without the connector string added at the end..the SID gets exported first..
any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm a newbie to Oracle!

There is a possibility that you could be hitting bug 4516865....
Bug 4516865 "WRONG PERMISSIONS AFTER INSTALLATION IN OH AND SUBSEQUENT DIRECTORIES".

What file format Oracle Database 11g can spool data w chinese characters?

Hi,
I have a batch job that spools data into a text file for further processing but now I have data that contains chinese characters.
From what I know text file (.txt) cannot support chinese characters.
Anyone has any idea what file format Oracle Database 11g can spool data with chinese characters?

I'm not sure this can work with SQL*Plus in character mode on Windows DOS mode. But this should work with SQL Developer: see Re: How to display Chinese characters in Oracle?

In this book, they are explaining the query like WEATHER ,LOCATION ,COMFORT and more tables.
I want this SQL query to insert these sql in my oracle database,then only easy to learn .
If you have a SQL query ,Please send the sql .

Regarding those tables and the data in that, you need to ask the publisher. Or that book should have the soft/hard copy of the create table and insert statements in that.

You can't unless you have a bootable system on an external drive you can use. Otherwise, you need either the original disc that came with your computer or a retail copy of Snow Leopard DVD. The latter contains 10.6.3, so your model must be capable of booting from that or an earlier version of OS X.

ITunes can't find artists beginning with THE

My music collection was getting too large for my internal hard drive so I changed the location of my iTunes folder to my external drive, where there was already a back up of all my music. This I create by directly copying the itunes music folder every so often. Keep itunes organised is checked. When I changed the folder location, it did updating library, then asked if I wanted to organise the folder which I did.
However now, it won't find certain tracks/albums, says the orignal file location cannot be found do I want to locate...
It appears that itunes can't find any track whose artist begins with the word THE, although they are in folders called "The...." in the correct music folder.
I just updated to the latest version of itunes.
Does anyone know what might be going on???

Something similar happened to me. iTunes could not find any music that had the track number at the beginning of the name (an option in Advanced->Import section). My purchased music also had track numbers, but I don't know if Apple did that, or if my own iTunes did it.
At some point, I had turned off this option, so all the songs I imported after that were found just fine. When I deleted the track numbers from the file names, iTunes found them just fine. I have way too many files to change all the name manually however. Changing the naming option in the iTunes preferences did not make a difference to the problem.

This link was not valid when I clicked it. Please contact the person sending these links they do not seem to work. The page takes me to a page that says it will load after 5 seconds, however there is not valid link.
