i have a database in linux server (service name orcl)
i have an sql server in win2003
i need to make a oracle service in win2003 for sqlserver (through odbc) so that, that service can be called in linux, and further sqlserver database link is possible.
to do this i need to install some oracle components in win2003 rt?
i want that list. have you got my point??

Minimum Install for Using ODBC Driver.

What is the minimum installation required for using ODBC from a client machine.
EG I have an application in Access and I want to connect to a table on my oracle server. The user machine, has Access installed, and I don't wnat to install the whole 50 megs(OK I exagerate A little but not much) of NET 8 client just so they can look at a table in Access from Oracle.
What specific elements are necessary in the install, TCP/IP, Named pipe protocol adapters?, required support files?, SQL*plus 8?
Say its a version 8.0.4 server for arguments sake and I want the least hassle setting up 50 users who already have office installed with the latest version of MS ODBC32, they have no Oracle software on their machines.

Unfortunately, you'll need to do at least a minimal Oracle client install. While we probably don't actually rely on everything that gets installed here, we don't test our driver with anything less than a minimal install.

Oracle By Example - New Install for Each Module?

I downloaded the Data Warehouse Oracle By Example module. The instructions indicate that that Oracle must be uninstalled and reinstalled before following this module. Do you know if this is necessary? And is it necessary for each module one wants to follow?
I'd rather not uninstall my current DBs, but will if I must. Please advise.

How do I know what Oracle products I need installed for Oracle Text to work

I get the following errors from a VB application when trying to access the Oracle Text procedures:
Oracle Error: -20000
ORA-20000: Oracle Text error:

Oracle Text is part of the database. Try the quick start sample (http://otn.oracle.com/products/text/x/Samples/Quick_Start/index.html) and check if a sql-contains statement works.

Installing Oracle E-Business Suite Extensions for Oracle Endeca, Release 12.2 V5(Doc ID 1614014.1) postSetup.sh script missing

I am working on Oracle EBS and OEID integration for iprocurement. Followed the Installing Oracle E-Business Suite Extensions for Oracle Endeca, Release 12.2 V (Doc ID 1614014.1).
But not able to find the postSetup.sh script at /u01/Oracle/quickInstall path which is use to perform following task:
1. Create JNDI: Create JNDI data source for Oracle Endeca Studio Portal and Clover to obtain a connection to the Oracle
2. Create DD: Create a default data domain profile for the dgraph processes to tune the performance of the integrator graphs.
I think this script is missing from the Oracle E-Business Suits Extensions for Oracle Endeca Server Quick Install for linux installable:
Please suggest.
Please refer doc id 1614014.1 page 9 step 5,6 of b) Perform post-setup steps.

Oracle E-Business Suite Extensions for Oracle Endeca, Release 12.1.3.4 Installation

Hi All,
Previously we installed Oracle Extension for Endeca 2.3 for ChRM Claims on Linux Server but showing something went wrong with it. Now we are planning to install/upgrade with its recent version. Our main approach is also include the "budget dashboard" on EBS. For these we are referring the article id 1562372.1 for installation.
So is these good approach to de-install version which we installed previously and re-installed the complete set installation with recent version? QuickInstall package i.e E-Business Suite Extensions for Oracle Endeca, Release 12.1.3.4 Generic V39077-01.
E-Business Suite Extensions Oracle Endeca Server Quick Install for Linux x86-64 V39078-01.
Is there any effect on EBS if we do so?
Because we installed different patches for previous installation and as per the doc id 1562372.1 we need to apply some more different patches for these installation.
Or Is there any approach to to upgrade E-Business Suite Extensions Oracle Endeca which we installed previously?
Please help me to regarding these I am very new to these.

GoldenGate and "Generic ODBC" target...

Hi all,
I believe I am looking for a Generic ODBC version of GoldenGate - but seem to be unable to locate it...
I am able to find the likes of - "Oracle GoldenGate for Non Oracle Database v11.1.1.1.0 Media Pack for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)" - at edelivery.oracle.com
But within there is no mention of "Generic ODBC"...
Can someone please advise?

Steve, you are correct. The documentation needs to be updated if it says that 'generic odbc' is still supported as a generic target. (But, for most target DB's -- other than oracle -- GG does use odbc to some extent.) Only specific databases (and specific database versions) are supported as both sources & targets by GoldenGate.
Once upon a time (prior to Oracle's acquisition), there was a generic ODBC replicat. That has been de-supported & discontinued. (It wasn't really that well supported when it was available, so it was no great loss.) All of the current replicat implementations take into consideration the specific features, data type support & limitations of the target database.
That being said, the functionality in 'replicat' is relatively independent of the target database implementation, since it IS a basic SQL client. That is, relative to "extract", which is very tightly coupled to the database implementation (by it's very nature of being a log reader). So if there is another database target that needs to be implemented & supported, it's a lot less development work than a new database source.
So, do open a ticket if there's a currently unavailable DB that you require, including as many details as you can. The more requests there are, the more likely it is to be implemented. It may even be something that's already in the works.

How to install Oracle Content Database Archive Adapter for SAP on windows

I would like to install CDAA(Oracle Content Database Archive Adapter) on 32 bit and 64 bit windows. Will somebody point me to where i can download this from (if its not free i would like to try out trial version first) . If it depends upon other oracle components what is that i need to install additionally . And if you could provide links to all the required components, it would be great help.
Also if there is any demo from where i can see what all features CDAA support and how does it compare to other products say IBM commonstore etc , please let me know.

I believe, 11i installation on Windows 2003 X64 is not fully supported.
what is your os version:
if it is windows 2003 32 bit, then it is supported on X86-64 servers for both database and application tiers
If it is windows 2003 64 bit, then only datatabase tier is supported on x86-64 servers

I want to install Oracle BI EE and it need OracleAS wich I can install from Oracle SOA suite (2nd choice of the installation type). But in the setup progression of AS, I had a message that the ORACLE HOME exist.
I had an instance of SOA suite installed, but I have uninstall it and remove the oracle home from system variables.
in my machine, I have : Windows Vista, Oracle database 11g, JDeveloper 10.1.3.3, Oracle 10 XE.

How to find the installed oracle components( oci , occi) versions?

ex: which version of OCCI installed?
one way is using OUI gui tool.
I also got this info from oracle inventory file.
under $ORACLE_HOME/inventory/ContentsXML/comps.xml
But is there any best way or command to look for the same.

The "best way" almost certainly depends on why you're looking for the information and what tool(s) you're using.
If you're asking a human being to get the information, the OUI is generally going to be "better". If you're writing a program to get the information, parsing the inventory XML is likely to be "better".
If you have multiple Oracle Homes on a single machine (particularly Oracle Homes with different major Oracle releases), though, or you have various failed/ incomplete/ obsolete installations on various machines, or if you're trying to figure out which version of the libraries would actually get used when a particular application starts up (assuming there are multiple applications on the machine), things start to get rather trickier.

So you are saying that this is a valid path specification in Windows? I did not know this. And I do not remember to ever have seen this before with Java.
Is there a reason why this "abbreviated" form is used in Java?
Has this changed recently, or did I simply never found it before?
Can this be behavior be changed to the complete path form? I like to call 'get[Absolute]Path()' in log messages and test cases, but want to see the complete path in such a case. I would like to avoid getCanonicalPath() in such cases, because this method declares an exception.

satish.pWith the caveat (as already pointed out by Srini in this thread) that no Oracle product has ever been certified on any "home" edition of any version of Oracle ...
If I were looking to download any product, I'd start by going to that company's web site (like, www.oracle.com) and look for a tab or link called "download". I'll bet if you did that, you'd find all sorts of goodies.
But, again, since you are dealing with a "home" edition of Windows, you'll need to start by installing a virtual machine product -- VM Ware's "VMworkstation" or "VMplayer", or Oracle's VirtualBox. Then you can create a virtual machine running a supported OS. Oracle's own Linux (derived from Red Hat Linux) is also free.

Installing Oracle Application Server 10.2 for Oracle Database Lite

Can anybody please tell me how to install oracle application server 10.2 for oracle database lite (i use oracle database lite for my final project). I use wi-fi connection to synchronize between pda and my laptop as server. Should i install oracle internet directory before installing oracle application server? I have difficulties in installing application server, what are the options should i take in every page of installation? Thanks before.

Install with the base, do not select any other options. Only choose webcache if you require the use of a software load balancer.
