Oracle Data Provider for Oracle 10g

We have an application certified on the ODP 9.2.0.2102, Oracle Client and Oracle ODBC 9.2.0.6. We have a client who is moving to Oracle 10g client within the next few months but will still be hitting an Oracle 9.2 backend.
My question is: Is the 9.2.0.2102 ODP compatible with the 10g client, or do we need to certify against a newer version of the ODP? And if the latter, what version of ODP is recommended?
We plan to certify against the latest of both this year, but for now, we need the path of least resistence.
Thanks for your help.
Todd

It is not "hard" to create your own geocoding schema though you will need to know how to create tables (with Oracle Spatial columns) in Oracle and before you do create the tables you should read through the documentation to be certain you have all of the required data and metadata.
Navteq, a data provider, also has sample geocoding data (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/spatial/htdocs/spatial_partners_data.html) as well as data for sale. Downloading and importing the Navteq data might give you a good idea about what you will need to do if you were to build your own geocoding schema using your data.
I hope this helps.

  • Difference between Data Providers for Oracle

    Hello,
There are 3 .NET Data Providers for access an Oracle Database:
    1) ODP.NET, who uses Oracle API to access an Oracle Database.
    2) Microsoft .NET Data Provider for Oracle, who comes in the Assemblie System.Data.OracleClient
    3) Microsoft .NET Data Provider for OLE DB.
    My questions are:
    1) There is another Data Provider to access an Oracle DB ?
    2) Which is better, for example to handle LOB fields ?
    3) Which is better in performance ?
    4) ODP.NET uses some Oracle API to handle a DB, and the others ?
    5) What is the requirement (Oracle Client, OS) of each of them ?
    Best Regards
    Alfredo DS

I would recommend using ODP.NET. Overall, I've seen better performance from it than other Oracle providers. It requires the 9.2 client and any OS that the 9.2 client supports.
With respect to LOBs, the first ODP.NET version was consistently faster retrieving LOBs than other Oracle providers. The latest version of ODP.NET (and the upcoming version) have made some substantial improvements in LOB performance on top of that.

  • Oracle Data Provider

When I use the new Oracle Data Provider for .Net ver 9.2.0.4 I get the following web error:
"The located assembly's manifest definition with name 'Oracle.DataAccess' does not match the assembly reference."
The Oracle.DataAccess reference is displayed in the solution explorer of .Net and the path property is correct.
I am running a web base application. The old Oracle Data Provider which I was using ver 9.2.0.1.1 works fine. Any ideas?

    Scott,
To solve this, you need to recompile your web application with the new ODP.NET driver. This is one of the tenets of .NET. Thou shall avoid DLL hell by binding to a specific DLL version for your application...or something like that. You can't just plug in a new DLL anymore in an application without recompiling

  • Where do i get Oracle Data Provider version 9.2.0.4.01

    Hi
Does anyone knows if Oracle Database 9.2.0 media kit comes with
Oracle Data Provider version 9.2.0.4.01 as database component ?
Else how do i get this Oracle Data Provider version 9.2.0.4.01 .
    Thanks
    Francis

Are you referring to Oracle Data Provider for .NET (1.x)?
I would guess that a 9.2.0.1 base release is old enough to not include the component. (But it is easy enough to check by starting up the installer, faking an install, and take a look what's available under Windows Interfaces.)
Do you need that specific version, 9.2.0.4.01?
Otherwise there's Oracle 9.2 ODAC that includes ODP.NET 9.2.0.7. (Note: for .NET Framework 1.x).
I'd say the component is usually installed on the client side (e.g. app server) but you should be able to use odac to add the component to a database server install as well (as long as version etc. requirements are followed).

  • Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle: Data type is not supported.

    I got the error:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle: Data type is not supported.
Shortly after upgrading from Oracle 8 to Oracle 9. I was advised to download more up to date oracle drivers, but I was wondering if there was a way to tell what version of the 'OLE DB Provider for Oracle' is already at. Is there a command I can use via SQL Plus or something?

I have found Microsoft ODBC for Oracle to be more stable than the Microsoft OLEDB for Oracle driver. I have also found both Microsoft ODBC and OLEDB drivers to be more stable than the drivers from Oracle.
You could always get the latest MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components) from Microsoft's MSDN Download site and then get the ODAC (Oracle Data Access Components) from Oracle's OTN Download site. ODAC requires MDAC. And ODAC has the latest drivers.
I suppose it would help to have the latest patches for your Oracle client software too. Maybe Oracle MetaLink would have these?
It may even help to have the latest service pack for Visual Studio 6 (Visual C++ 6 and Visual Basic 6) too.

  • Oracle Data Provider (ODP) Passing Arrays to PL/SQL

Does anyone know how to pass an array or collection of data (from VB.net) to PL/SQL using the new Oracle Data Provider?
My PL/SQL procedure is accepting type Table (Table array).
This was easily done with Oracle Objects (in VB6) but I've found no way to do this with the new provider with .Net.
It seems like a serious limitation if it can't be done.
    Anyones help would be appreciated.

Just out of interest, what are the performance implications of using REF CURSORS for retrieving resultsets from Oracle stored procedures via ODP.NET?
When coding the PL/SQL for these, the REF CURSOR is left OPEN and not explicitly CLOSED. When does the cursor actualy get closed? Is there a risk of reaching "maximum open cursors" or some other limit more quickly if REF CURSORS are used in this manner?
I haven't found any documentation of this issue as yet.

I would like to know if there are any plans for SQL Server 2012 Change Data Capture for Oracle by Attunity to support versions of Oracle 12 and if by when.

I have asked from the author of

  • Test Data generator for oracle?

    Hi again,
I found a long list of "Test data generators" for oracle by google. Is there anybody there to use some specific product and have nice experience? I have limited time to test them.
-Your help will be so appreciated.

The Oracle provided dbms_random package can be used to help generate test data.
I have found that most test data generation programs are not that useful for generation data in an rdbms environment.

  • OIM 9.1.0.2 - Weblogic JDBC Multi Data Sources for Oracle RAC

Does OIM OIM 9.1.0.2 BP07 support Weblogic JDBC Multi Data Sources (Services>JDBC>Multi Data Sources) for Oracle RAC instead of inserting the "Oracle RAC JDBC URL" on JDBC Data Sources for xlDS and xlXADS (Services>JDBC>Data Sources> xlDS|xlXADS > Connection Poll> URL) ?
If yes, is there are any other modifications that need to be made on OIM, or just changing the data sources?

Yes, it's supported. You install against one instance directly of the Rac Server. Then you update the config.xml file and the jdbc resource in your weblogic server with the full rac address. It is documented for installation against RAC. http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14049_01/doc.9101/e14047/database.htm#insertedID2

  • Installation error message for Oracle Database software for version 10g

Would someone be able to advise why I keep getting the following error message whilst installing Oracle trial Database software for version 10g Release 2 Standard Edition, Standard Edition One, and Enterprise Edition? Link listed below : -
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/index.html
    Error message "Cannot create directory"C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_7\cfgtoollogs\dbca\projemp"
Below is the 12 steps that I go through, please advise what I'm doing wrong : -
    1. (Operations) default is Create a database
    2. (Database templetes) default is general purpose
    3. (Database Identification) projemp.local for Global database name & projemp for SID
    4. (Management options) default is "Configure the database with Enterprise manager, also the options button has been clicked for "Use database control for database management"
    5. (Database Credentials) the options button has been clicked for "Use the same password for all accounts" so I've set up a new password, was that correct?
    6. (Storage options) the options button is clicked for "File System - use the file system for database storage.
    7. (Database file locations) the options button is clicked for "Use database file locations for template" Is this option correct? Other options are Use common location for all database files or use Oracle-managed files?
    8. (Recovery configuration) the options button is clicked for "Specify flash recovery area
    9. (Database content) nothing has been selected, the only option is "Sample schemas" should that be clicked?
    10. (Initialization parameters) the options button is clicked for "Typical- allocate memory as a % of the total physical memory
    11. (Database storage) no options available
    12. (Creation options) the options button has been selected for "Create Database"
    Click finish
I then get a screen stating General purpose, click OK then I get the following error message as stated at the start of this e-mail ""Cannot create directory"C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_7\cfgtoollogs\dbca\projemp".

    >
I've gone through my courses instructions as listed above (1-12) and end up with the following error message"C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_7\cfgtoollogs\dbca\projemp".What course?
    >
I've removed the software from my computer using control panel, programs & features then uninstall once but the other five times the software hasn't been listed. Whilst the Oracle was on my task bar I was able to install using Start > Programs > Oracle - HOME-NAME > Database Administration > Database Configuration Assistant. No you didn't. Database Configuration Assistant does not remove software. It can remove a database. As I mentioned before, there is a difference between the software and the objects that software manages. Deleting an Excel spreadsheet is not the same as deleting Microsoft Office. Deleting an Oracle database with Database configuration assistant is not the same as removing the Oracle software.
    >
Now that oracle is not on my task bar I've unzipped the link below, clicked on db, Disk1, setup, changed the Database password (is that correct?) install and I get the following error message "Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Failed<<<<<
Problem: The install has detected that the primary IP address of the system is DHCP-assigned.
    Recommendation: Oracle supports installations on systems with DHCP-assigned IP addresses;
However, before you can do this, you must configure the Microsoft LoopBack Adaptor to be the primary network adapter on the system. See the installation Guide for more details on installing the software on systems configured with DHCP."
So what did you do with the above error message? Did you follow up on what it said? Did you read the very fine Installation Guide that comes with the software? Did you read the section on networking considerations where it discussed DHCP assigned addresses and installing the loopback adapter?
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle10g/index.html
Ok, that link takes us to the download page, which does not shed any light at all on your problems
I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium, 32 bit operating system, and my computer is saying I have 142 GB free space.
If you read the installation manual that came with the downloaded software, you'd have seen in the prerequisites that Home editions of Windows are NOT listed as supported platforms, whereas Business, Enterprise, and Ultimate editions specifically ARE listed as supportd.
    Hope this is some help.And
I'm not to clever on computers so would you be able to advise how I get to the command window to issue the SET command please?
Also I've no idea what OS user I am, I'm taking an on-line Oracle course and been advised to install "Oracle Database software for version 10g Release 2 Standard Edition, Standard Edition One, and Enterprise Edition"
How do I find out if I'm part of an Administrator, ORA_DBA group ?
Can you walk me through how to create the directory from command line please?Ok, given the above statements from you, I'm not even sure where to begin. I don't want to be cruel, but this self-admitted lack of even the most rudimentary knowledge by someone attempting to learn about Oracle is truly astounding. What course are you taking? Why are you taking this course?

in the second case, are you saying that the third column of the resultset is NULL? That there is no third column? Or something else?

  • OBIEE Vs MDX Provider for Oracle OLAP

    Hi Gurus,
We need to present to customer a comparison between OBIEE 10.1.3.4 and SIMBA´S "MDX Provider for Oracle OLAP" to attack OLAP Cubes in 11gR2.
Of course OBIEE is more powerful and complete, but technically, we would like to know which OBIEE capabilities (apart from ibots, scheduling, hability of representing information) are not available or cant´t be utilized from SIMBA´s Sw.
Are there known limitations of MDX Provider for Oracle OLAP?
Is it truth that in the new OBIEE release the Microsoft Office add in is going to be more powerfull or is it going to remain the same?
Thanks in advance for your answers,
    Best Regards,

Yes. There are a lot of performance work done for the production release.

  • Oracle data provider not appearing in MS Business Intelligence reporting

Oracle Data provider does appear is VS 2005 server explorer but NOT as a data source in the reporting project type.
This is in oracle ODAC beta 11
    Is this supported?

I believe your developer encounters a hang when using the Microsoft reports wizard with MS OracleClient. I don't know why this is happening, but this issue would need to be resolved by Microsoft. They build both the reports wizard and MS OracleClient. They would need to identify what in their code is causing the problem. If they find out the underlying cause is a call they are making into Oracle, then Oracle will fix it.
Oracle builds ODP.NET, which I haven't seen work with the reports wizard query builder. But I haven't fully investigated why. There may be additional configuration needed to wire these together.
