Oracle Database 11.2 Express Edition

Hi ever one,
I tried to download Oracle 11.2 express edition and i downloaded in my system,but i couldn't run the program. I did unzip the files also, it is showing to me it is in RPM file format.Can any one give me some instructions to install the software properly that will be wonderful, I will be appreciated for your help.

the beta supports only Linux x86-64 and Windows 32bit, so the answer to you question is no - not yet.
There'll be a Windows 64bit edition when the final version is released, as announced by Kris in this message: {message:id=9534248}

Oracle database upgrade from express edition to standard edition

We purchased Oracle database 11g to upgrade our current primavera oracle database express edition (10g).When we are trying to upgrade through DBUA it getting error message
Please provide us a proper advise to solve this issue.

i was surprised that I have'nt been ask for a licence code or something...That's part of Oracle's distribution concept - you need to think about proper licensing yourself, until you get an audit. As you already mentioned, there could be user licensing - hard to manage with entering codes. On the other hand, there are OTN licensed downloads for development and evaluation purposes that don't need a paid license. Oracle doesn't want to build different packages for that, so you get exactly the same software for development your paying customer has for production.
So...
So, knowing this, is it legal if I install it and exploit it for my own purposes?I recommend reading the OTN license you've accepted before downloading the files.
As I indicated above, it will (usually) allow you develop any application using any database release (including SE or even EE), without additional licensing. You need to make sure you never actually do any productive or testing-like activity on instances that are used under that license. Note that OTN license does not include support, so you are not allowed to install any patch you may have obtained from MOS using one of your companies support ids on such an instance.

Oracle 9i Vs 10g Express Edition PL SQL syntax problem?

The following code works perfectly on Oracle 9i , but fails in 10g Express Edition. Please help me figure out what the problem is
product_master table exists and there is nothing wrong in there.The problem is a syntical one. Is there some 9i compatible mode? I'm using oracle express edition of 10 g. Login using the webbrowser. That itself is annoying.Why isnt there an SQL+ ide unlike 9i?

I changed & to : .The it asked for input but the following error came up
ORA-06550: line 16, column 2:

One, possibility of occuring this error(PLS-00103) is, if you leave input without entering anything this will occur.
Solution: Enter the value in quotation, like 'hello', below is one example which asks value for a, but i left it without entering any input, so the error occured.
Once check out this in your case.

How can we reduce compares Database size in express edition

for client we use SQL server express edition. express edition has limitation of 10GB of database size.
please help me how can we reduce/compares DB size.

Data or page compression feature is not available in express edition so you cannot use this feature to help you.
You might be lucky to reclaim space from shrink operation but eventually data file will grow again. So your best bet is using licensed version.

Oracle 10g Release 2 Express Edition Connection Error

Hello,
i recently started to convert one of out existing applications over to the new free version or oracle express, only to find that i would run into a few errors.
The project is an asp.net c# application, when the web site is ran and a search is preformed (any retrieval of data) i get the following error.
Assembly manifest missing, or one if its dependants not found.
I use a data access layer generator called LLBLGen, this has worked fine with all previous versions of Oracle ODP.NET.
i contacted the LLBLGen support at first because i thought the error would be due to an incompatibility with the new version or oracle, anyway to cut a long story short, i found out that there is no policy.Oracle.DataAccess within the assembly folder which could be the problem.
Another thing that i also got told while getting support from LLBLGen is that the adapter is still within a beta version that's why there are no policy's included within the installer. could someone please clarify the status of release or beta.

You will find the .NET policy files in the XE production version. You'll see it in the following directory. c:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\ODP.NET\PublisherPolicy
It will redirect your 9.2 and/or 10.2 ODP.NET apps to the XE version of ODP.NET since its most up to date.
You can generate your own application policy files and machine policy files if you want your application or machine to re-direct itself to specific versions of .NET assemblies. You can read more on how to do this here:

Is Oracle Application Express the same of Oracle Database Express Edition (

perhaps a silly question.
I've tried to download Oracle Application Express. Before of installing it, I've noticed that looking at the About the Create Application Manual it looks like the Application Builder that I already use with the web-based page for Oracle Database 10g XE (Express Edition). But thus is Oracle Application Express the same of using Application Builder of Oracle Database 10g XE? To me it seems so, but I'd like to be sure of that

Installing Oracle 10G Express Edition on Linux after installing Libaio-0.3

I had got a error while installing 10G Express Edition on Redhat Fedora core 4 linux after installing libaio-0.3.104-2.i386.rpm
I had given the following command in Linux Command prompt to install the oracle database 10 G Express Edition (oracle-xe-10.2.0.1-1.0.i386.rpm)

Now, I am having the following problems:
After making the changes as per my Reference mentioned in my different messages, I had done the troubleshooting steps going to Options and setting the same.
1.When I try to load the http://127.0.0.1:8080/apex page it gives an error popup:
" The connection was refused when attempting to contact 127.0.0.1:8080 "
2. After opening the Run the SQL Command Line by clicking on applications and When I say " Connect System and when prompted for password, I have entered the password and gives another error as follows:
ORA-01034 : Oracle not available
ORA-27101: Shared Memory realm does not exist
Linux Error:2:No such file or directory
3. When I try to manually start the Listener or Services, It gives one more error:
Root Not a Member of DBA Group
I need to What is happening or What is the Problem and How will I rectify them?

SQL Developer and Oracle Database 10g Express Edition, Connection Problem

I am using SQL Developer version 1.2.1 and am connecting to a 10g database on a windows xp.
Up until today there have been no problems with the connection. When I tried to connect to the database and have not been able to.
The error states that "...listener refused the connection with the following error: ORA-12505, TNS; listener does not currently know of SID given in connect descriptor..."
Also tried to log into the database home page but page doesn't load...

I'd bet the database is down.
Try a login through sqlplus ("Run SQL Command Line" in the Oracle Express Edition 'Start' menu).
Do a CONN / AS SYSDBA
If you get a message about database or memory area not available, try STARTUP.
If that doesn't work, you are best off in the General Database forum or the Express Edition forum.
You'll probably get the most expert response in General Database, but the Express Edition forum can be gentler on newbies (as it is more accepted that questioners are not and do not have access to full-time DBAs).
