I was surprised to see Microsoft Windows Server (32-bit) in the list.
From Steven Chan's blog: "Certifications for other platforms are underway now. As soon as those efforts are complete, there will be a new post on this blog".

    Hello,
    Server A:
i have one UAT server which is installed with e-business suites 11i. The users logon to discoverer from e-business suites using the username and password stored in e-business suites.

then, i now hv to set up a 10G application server and 10G discoverer on a new server. The user request that they want to login to discoverer using the username and password as mentioned above. They reject to logon to database using 'connect directly', 'open connection' or 'private connection'.
what can i do in order to synchronize the username from Server A to Server B so that they can logon using the username and password they created in e-business suites.

However, AccessGate is available at no charge to customers who have already licensed both Oracle E-Business Suite and Oracle Access Manager.

  • Install EBS 11i using Oracle Database 11g

    Dear All,
I'm going to create development environment for EBS 11i using database 11g. As i know, the rapidwiz install pack using Oracle 9i as the default database.
Could I install EBS 11i using database 11g? Is there any documentation for this kind of installation? Or Do i have to Install EBS 11i using the default database then migrate it to Oracle database 11g?
    Many Thanks
    Gumas

I'm going to create development environment for EBS 11i using database 11g. As i know, the rapidwiz install pack using Oracle 9i as the default database. Correct.
Could I install EBS 11i using database 11g?No, you will need to install 9i which comes with 11i Rapid Install then upgrade the database to 11gR2
Is there any documentation for this kind of installation? If you mean install 11i using 11g then no such doc exists.
Or Do i have to Install EBS 11i using the default database then migrate it to Oracle database 11g?Correct.

Note that this forum is for XE Beta, not EE.
Can you connect from some other client tool, such as sqlplus?
There's a {forum:id=178} forum that may be more suitable, if basic connectivity outside php works (i.e. issue is only php specific).

Find the hostname and service name of the database and use those values in the ORA_CON_DB constant.
Use 'lsnrctl status' on the database host to find the service name.
If you use a "tns" alias, you may need to create a tnsnames.ora file where PHP can access it.
Set the environment variable TNS_ADMIN (on Linux) to the directory containing the file.

  • I am now "Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Associate"

    Hi
after very hard work I am now Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Associate. I attended courses (Admin I and SQL Fundamentals) 3 years ago. My Oracle knowhow is only the scope OCA 11g and have no Java know-how.
    What should I do next?
    - 1Z0-047 Oracle Database SQL Certified Expert
    or
    - 1Z0-803 Java SE 7 Programmer I
    what is simpler?

I am searching for an easy winI'm not a big proponent of 'easy'. I'm much more a fan of 'worthwhile'. Determining what is 'easy' for you is not easy. It's hard enough figuring out what is easy for me. That said, a fast and dirty rule of thumb for comparing Oracle certifications is:
    Easiest
OCA -- Broad range of topics -- shallow depth
OIS -- Narrow range of topics -- moderate depth (Implementation Specialist -- dunno if they really have an accepted acronym)
OCP -- Broad range of topics -- moderate depth
OCE -- Narrow range of topics -- considerable depth
OCM -- Whole different ballgame -- perform or fail
    Hardest
Since you are asking about an OCA exam vs an OCE exam, the basic answer is going to be that the OCA exam is easier. That doesn't take into account you. For all I know, you might be mentally allergic to Java and learning it may be the hardest thing you've ever done.

  • Question about Oracle Database 11g: Program with PL/SQL

    Hello,
    I've read that:
This course is a combination of Oracle Database 11g: PL/SQL Fundamentals and Oracle Database 11g: Develop PL/SQL Program Units courses.
In order to preparing for this exam, i should read the student guide, so there are 4 pdf files. One is Oracle Database 11g: PL/SQL Fundamentals, and the other 3 are regarding to Oracle Database 11g: Develop PL/SQL Program Units (volume I, II and III). My question is, regarding to this last one (Oracle Database 11g: Develop PL/SQL Program Units), which volume should i read? I saw that volume I has 400+ pages, and the IIIrd ~80.
Which document should i read? What's the difference between them?
    Thanks!

Passing the exam and becoming certified are not a matter of simply reading a book or taking a training class. While books and classroom materials as well as in-class training are all important steps in preparing for an exam, experience and research are just as important. I cannot tell you that there are 53 questions on the exam and every single question maps directly back to page 13, paragraph 3 in XX book. However, If you have the classroom material, and you have the list of exam topics, you should be able to find most of the information you need. In some cases, if you are not completely familiar with a specific topic, or you don't feel like the information in the book gives you all the information you need, you may need to do a little additional research. This is all part of preparing for an exam. This process is what makes you successful as a certified professional.
Your focus seems to be solely on the course materials that you have and what volumes and chapters you should read. I'm trying to give you a different perspective - preparing for an exam is not necessarily about taking one course or reading one book and being ready. You need to review the exam topics and be sure that you are familiar with each topic.

To earn the OCE credentials, I know that we need to take training from Oracle University. I am not an OCP currently.
Can I write the exam now and later take the course to meet the certification requirements? I know it is not the right way, but I can not pay $3000 for the course as of now. I can write the exam through self study. I want to check if I can take the exam now and later take the course.
Is it mandatory to take the course before taking the exam?
    Thanks,
naveen.Indeed you can take the exam now, and subsequently earn the 11g PERFTUNE OCE credential when you either:
    1) complete, submit and get verified the OU authorised 11g perftune course (possible but seems a little cart before horse).
    or
    2) Become 11g DBA OCP.

  • Server Hardware for Oracle Database 11g Release 2 with Oracle Spatial

    Hi ,
We're to set up an Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Enterprise with Oracle Spatial.
Can you provide me the possible Server Hardware CPU / Memory specs , number of CPUs,type of OS and teh Model, for Spatial which a million users hits the database via a webservice?
The vendor suggested us SDD instead of HDD, any performance hike on this?
Budget seems to okay but I think Exadata will be too dear.
Your insights is much appreciated.Anything relating to setting up a server with spatial is greatly appreciated.
P/S: Been a programmer and don't knwo much about server hardware specs.

    It depends.
Seriously - before anyone can offer anything but generalities here you need to really define exactly what you expect the database to deliver.
In general however, I will throw out these questions and ideas...
For instance - you say a million users "hit" the database (via a web service). Is that WFS, WMS, KML or ???
Over - how long? A year? A month? A minute? A million hits over a year spread out evenly is only about 2 per minute.
And what is a hit? A single random record? Or about 10,000 records in the same spatial area... or? And for each record - are you returning simple point data - or hugely complex polygons with thousands of vertexes each?
How does this software work? Is it custom - or is it well known? Does it really query the database for every map (I assume it is a map service) feature - or does it read an area once and cache it in the middle tier? Or does it do something really smart and use cached tiles for static data - overlayed with vectors for dynamic data?
And although you say Oracle Spatial - are you really using Spatial - or just Locator functions (less processing in general)? And if spatial - are you doing raster in the db - or 3D analysis - or other special functionality?
SSD vs. HDD. - If you can buy a server with more RAM than the data set size (pretty easy these days) - and you do mostly reads (almost always the case for a map app) - buy a small cheap array of RAID'd HDD's - internal to the server is fine. Once the data is read into RAM - the HDD's do basically nothing.
Server CPU and memory. Amount - see above. CPU Speed (use performance benchmarks - not GHz numbers) AND memory speed (often overlooked) - buy as fast as possible. Why? You pay for licenses by the core (2 cores per license for x64). And HW is MUCH MUCH MUCH cheaper than Oracle licenses. Plan to upgrade HW every year if necessary to avoid buying more licenses (sounds crazy - but it is much cheaper).
This may seem like a lot - but these questions are just the tip of the iceberg. I have been in charge of spec'ing, building, and programming spatial systems now for about 20 years, so I have a pretty good idea of how to do enterprise scale computing on a Ramon-noodle budget.
Smart clean software is your friend - don't ask the HW to do anything unless absolutely necessary (cache results and reuse as much as possible), and you can get crazy performance from minimal hardware.
    Bryan
