Oracle Database 12.0 OTN dev license trial terms

Hi,
I'm DBA and my company asked me to demonstrate VPD and proxy authentication of Oracle database EE 10.2 .
I need to learn these things and test some examples described in documentation .
May I for these purposes install on my notebook 10.2 EE database downloaded from OTN under Development license ?
XE doesn't contain these features :)
Is the trial period restricted to 21 days ?
regards
Janus

1) The license says you can only use the database to
create a[i] single prototype. No real ambiguity, is there? Just need to answer
whether 'learning' does fit into the definition of
'creating a prototype'?
OK there isn't. Or have I understood it properly that Application X using one purely development schema appowner means one prototype. And as soon as one creates second schema on the same DB or different DB then it is the second prototype.
So nice until now. Of course the question remains - what is that kind of licence worth because I've yet to be find an app developed just on single schema all its lifecycle including development and test. OK even if such app exists I'd better won't use it :)
2) It does go on to say that the prototype can not be
put into production - internal use or commercial -
without getting an appropriate license. The question about test and other possible development instances is not 100% percent clear to me although I'm quite sure that these must be more than one prototype...
>
Fine - this ensures the dev license is not inherited
by the prototype
3) It states that any other use requires contacting
Oracle sales for an appropriate license.OK this is the bright side of life because it means negotiations and these almost always leads to some compromises :)
4) You may not: [some lines skipped] - continue to
develop your application
If 'learning' IS permitted under the definition of
prototype, then what is an application? Can a single
SQL statement be defined as an application?Yeahhh and at least to my mind it definitely cannot be described as "indefinite development purpose".
Bottom lines:
1) If it's simple SQL you are wanting to learn, use
Oracle Express Edition;
2) If you wat to learn all of Oracle capability AND
want to stay perfectly legal, purchase the relatively
inexpensive Personal Edition - it has all otyhe
features of Oradle Enterprise Edition and is actually
less expensive than Microsoft Office Professional.Of course this absolutely contradicts to the goal of developing an app on the as much as possible close environment as real production will be...
So the bottom bottom line is - speak and get __written__ licencing contract from your sales rep for everything anyway, isn't it? :)

  • Oracle Database Express Edition 11g Database; Tables bigger than 11 GB

    Dear all,
is it possible to make a part of big Tables (14 GB) visible in Oracle Database Express Edition 11g Database?
If yes, it would be nice to get the correct development.
    Thanks in advance.

or maybe there is another software which can import only specified number of rows/bytes? Then you would need to export according to "another software" rules/format as well.
As the table is not that big, one could copy the table, delete selected rows large enough, and export from that table copy instead.
If it's not possible, could you please be so kind and provide the full test-version of Oracle database without 11GB limitation?Oracle provides, under the OTN downloads license, SE and EE editions. See http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/indexes/downloads/index.html

  • Oracle Database Personal Edition

Hi, If I buy Oracle Database Personal Edition with perpetual license and 1 year support, can I use full database support Meta-Link? If answer is yes, can I renew this support?

Hi, If I buy Oracle Database Personal Edition with perpetual license and 1 year support, can I use full database support Meta-Link? I'd say - yes. You can create support cases and download patches for Oracle Database Personal Edition. And you can search and read articles there.
If answer is yes, can I renew this support?I'd say - yes. But you better consult with Oracle representative.

  • License for Oracle Database Lite 10g Embedded?

    Hi
I found Oracle Database Lite 10g Embedded SDK at the
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/lite/embedded.html
Look like that it is possible to use embedded Oracle Lite database in standalone applications.
I have win32 application with Oracle Lite support.
Now I'd like create public demo version of this application but can not found LICENSE for this possibility.
And what about possibility using embedded Oracle Lite database in commercial products?
Do I need buy some license for it, or users have to buy them?
    Thank you,
    Siarhei Berdachuk

    Thank you for response.
Do this words: "You can download the base installs and run the demos though." means that I can download Oracle Database Lite 10g Embedded SDK, and create my demo (trial) applications with embedded Oracle Lite dll's without paying anything, and users have to pay for per User or CPU license only after buying my application?
    Thank you,

  • Oracle Database 10g JDBC Samples on OTN

Review the OTN's new Oracle Database 10g JDBC Samples that illustrate new features introduced with Oracle10g JDBC Driver. The features illustrated are Connection Cache, Named Parameter Support, IEEE Datatypes, Thin Driver support for PLSQL Index by Tables and Web Rowset. Also watch out for samples on Datalinks, New Encryption Algorithms, Globalization Support, Shortcuts for CLOB manipulation and more to be hosted shortly.
    The samples are available at,
    http://otn.oracle.com/sample_code/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/files/oracle10g/index.html

    I suppose that is nice.
It would be even nicer if the drivers actually conformed to JDBC so that one could for example reliably use blobs in a J2EE server with CMP.

  • Three tier architecture using oracle dev suite 10g & oracle database 9i

    hi ,
I am trying to build a software which will manage the database of a hospital through usual form design .
The tools I am using for these are
    (1) oracle server database 9i (2) oracle developer suite 10g (3) windows xp professional service pack 2 .
I have designed the form modules in developer suite , created the tables in the database , connected those tables to the form modules using dml statements, now data can be inserted , updates and deleted through the form design . I have also deployed the forms using "run forms through web" and thereby other computers connected to the main computer through lan can also access the software using the web port address and the name of form to be used , these computers are not having oracle developer suite or oracle database installed , but they can access the software through the browser .
In this scenario my question is that , is this a three tier architecture as oracle database is the first tier , oracle developer suite is the middle tier where I am puting all the bussiness logics and oc4j instance is used to connect the database and the dev suite , and for user interaction we have the browser as the third tier ?
or this is a two tier architecture ? if this is a two tier architecture please let me know how can I implement a three tier architecture using oracle developer suite 10g and oracle server database 9i .
Thanks a lot for showing ur interest to read this

You need Oracle Application Server to deploy the forms when you go live.
What you are currently using OC4J which came in the developer suite. It is used only for development purpose and can not have capacity to handle higher load.
    3 tier arch
    1. Thin Client :-> Browser
2 Middle tier -> Oracle Appln Server /OC4j(in ur case)
3 Database Tier -> Oracle Database

  • Oracle Database Licensing Information  11g Release 2 (11.2) - E10594-08

Why does the above document not explicitly state that there are no explicit licensing requirements for Oracle Database client as long as the Database Server is licensed (or if this is wrong then a correct statement) ? This clarity is much needed from a licensing perspective !

    Hi,
You are correct: There are no explicit licensing requirements for Oracle Database Client as long as the Database Server is licensed.
This issue has been forwarded to the Database Licensing Guide owners.
    Thanks!

  • Oracle Database Vault + license

    Hi

What about license need for use Oracle Database Vault with Oracle Database Enterprise Edition 10g R2.
I have license to use Oracle Database Enterprise Edition 10g R2, but i don't know if i need extra license !!
    Best Regards

You may need to talk to your Oracle Sales Rep.
Says it's an option for Oracle Enterprise Edition
    http://www.oracle.com/database/product_editions.html
Does Database Vault require a separate database?
Oracle Database Vault is an option to the Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition (10.2.0.2).

  • Oracle database - trial version

Hi all, I have downloaded and installed SAP NetWeaver 2004s ABAP Trial Version (incl. Web Dynpro ABAP) in order to exercise myself with this new technology.
In the future I will have to deal with a SAP R/3 4.7 system based on Oracle database.
    My question is:
    1) if I also install oracle, will I be able to interface it with SAP NW2004s?
Right now I can only deal with MaxDB database which is included in the sneak preview.
My goal is to practice with Oracle database and the BR*Tools, in order to gain some experience with backup and restore/recovery.
    Please advise.
    Best regards.

how could you? all database objects are within the MaxDB database...the kernel (sap executables) is (partly) database depedent and os on...
but you could install oracle, <b>create  a test database</b> and perform some tests with that test db...if it's just for the tools you wouldn't need lots of data to test...

  • Oracle 11g R2 database required softwares and product Licenses cost

    Hello All,
I want to know about softwares require for Oracle database implementation in the Project.
What commercial licences we will require for the purpose ? Whether we will require commercial license for all the machines (Development and Deployment machines) ?
Is there any benefits or offers for Oracle Gold member partner ?
    Kindly suggest.
    Thanks ,
    Praneet Rane.

Its always best to pick up the phone and call ORACLE if you have any questions about licensing. Sometimes they can give you a good deals.
You can check software investment guide in the link but I would still recommend to call Oracle Marketing representative.

  • Oracle database licenses for 32 bit and 64 bit ?

    Quick question on Oracle Licensing.
We have brought Oracle database license for 10g few years ago. We had 10g 32-bit database installed and its working fine.
Now we are in the process of migrating our hardware to 64-bit, since Oracle database has a 64-bit database, we are planning to move our database as well to 10g 64-bit database.
Now as far as licensing is concerned, do we need to buy new licenses in order to use the 10g 64-bit database ?
or its the same license for 32 or 64 bit database - so we are good ?

You can migrate your Oracle license from one platofrm to another even if the platform is sold by a different manufacturer. If you have cpu licenses though you have to take into consideration the different way Oracle charges for some vendor CPU's. That is not all CPU's are considered equal.
The licensing information is available at oracle.com and your sales representive should be able to help if necessary. We just open an SR and ask Oracle for assistance to get the necessary software.

  • Oracle database Behind Postgresql License

    Dear all,
If I have this configuration :
Internet user --> WebApplication --> PostgreSQL Server --> Oracle Database
Internet user access to web apps then access to Postgressql server, from postgresql server use something like dblink to Oracle database.
How does we count the Named User Plus License? Based on access from Internet user or access from Postgresql server to Oracle database?
    Thank you.

With the details supplied the named user plus would be counted as the number of internet users, this depends on how everything is constructed, a system where postgres scrapes data vi a batch schedule out of oracle you may be able to argue for a lower number of users for a system where postgres is activly executing queries against the oracle database but that is really discussion for your oracle account manager. In general for Enterprise Edition the crossover is 50 users per whatever definition of processor applies to your platform with most internet applications you hit this pretty fast.

  • Licensing Oracle Database SE for processor Intel 2670v2 10 cores 2.5 Ghz

    Hello,
I have read and understood the Oracle licensing terms and I'm aware of the limitations SE puts on the server it is installed to. Still I need someone to approve my initial understanding.
Can I install Oracle Database SE on a system with 2 processors (Intel 2670v2 10 cores 2.5 Ghz each)?

Which version of Standard edition you are using ?
    Oracle Database Standard Edition One
    Or Oracle Database Standard Edition
Each one is difference than the other one, but regarding to what i know about Oracle SE License you should care about Maximum socket not Core and you check how much socket for each one :
    http://www.oracle.com/us/products/database/standard-edition-one/comparisons/index.html
    For Example :
    SE ONE
    Total # of Processors: 2
    Total # of Cores: 8
    SE
    Total # of Processors: 4
    Total # of Cores: 24
there is thread in some where here discuss this you can search on it here.

  • Oracle database license compliance

Does any one have a query to collect all the oracle Database(9.0) options installed and also what is being used in the database for license compliance.

You can check the options installed by querying V$option. But, you may have to manually check with your source (licensing agreement) as to what products are licensed for use....I don't think a script can do it...unless you put that licensing information in some kind of table or text file to compare against.
    Thanks
