I suppose that is nice.
It would be even nicer if the drivers actually conformed to JDBC so that one could for example reliably use blobs in a J2EE server with CMP.

How to create an Oracle DATABASE through Java Programming Language.. ?

Oracle database administrators tend to be control freaks, especially in financial institutions where security is paramount.
In general, they will supply you with a database, but require you to supply all the DDL scripts to create tables, indexes, views etc.
So a certain amount of manual installation will always be required.
Typically you would supply the SQL scripts, and a detailled installation document too.

  • XE Oracle Database Express  Beta

I've just downloaded the new beta Oracle XE database. Database up and running but having trouble accessing the HTMLDB app (see error below). Maybe this is not the appropriate forum but am unable to connect to the XE specific Tom Kyte forum using my OTN user/pass. Any ideas ? (GHOME2400 is my XP node name and I can connect to port 8080 using an FTP client, I guess HTMLDB uses an FTP protocol !)
220- GHOME2400 Unauthorised use of this FTP server is prohibited and may be subject to civil and criminal prosecution. 220 GHOME2400 FTP Server (Oracle XML DB/Oracle Database) ready. 530 Please login with USER and PASS. 530 Please login with USER and PASS. 530 Please login with USER and PASS. 530 Please login with USER and PASS. 530 Please login with USER and PASS. 530 Please login with USER and PASS. 530 Please login with USER and PASS. 221 Command Too Long. 2048 bytes maximum. Goodbye.

Be sure that the Windows user name that you are installing with does NOT have a space in it (ie "John Doe"). This is a known problem and will be fixed in the next beta drop. The workaround is to deinstall, create a new windows user account (such as oracle), with administrator privileges, and reinstall from this account
    Hope this helps

  • Useing  a Idoc  an  Oracle  database Can be update useing JDBC Adapter

    Hi Guys,
Can you help me on the above topic..
    Regd's
    Raj

    Hi Raj,
You can use the Idoc Adapter on the sender side and JDBC on the reciever side. After you have configured your scenario, you should be able to write data into the oracle database.
For the strucutre of your Datatype for insertion , just check this link,
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/7e/5df96381ec72468a00815dd80f8b63/content.htm
To access any Database from XI, you will have to install the corresponding Driver on your XI server.
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/3867a582-0401-0010-6cbf-9644e49f1a10
Or on the JDBC end you can write a stored procedure to make your data update more efficient.
Go through this blog for stored procedures.

  • The Oracle Database Programming using Java and Web services book is out

This book http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1555583296 shows how to build pragmatic applications using the combination of PL/SQL, Java in the database, JDBC, SQLJ, JPublisher, and Web services. It is intented for database developers, DBA, data architects, Java developers and Web services assemblers.
My blog http://db360.blogspot.com/ and the free/sample chapter http://www.oracle.com/technology/books/pdfs/mensah_ch1.pdf will give you a feel of the content.
    Enjoy, Kuassi

    Hi Kuassi,
Thanks for letting us know that your book is available. I have been following one of your articles about "Virtualize Your Oracle Database with Web Services". More specifically "The Database as Web Services Consumer". I think that this is an area that has in the past been under estimated as to the potential benefits.
I am currently trying to develop a solution that consumes several interfaces with a couple of them being published web services, so an ideal solution. I have then spent the last three weeks having to read up about the architecture of Java in the database, Jpublisher and make sense of how it all works together.
I have got very close to getting one of the web services to work but failed due to using 10gR2 where all the java & libraries has moved to version 1.5. The solution is to load the jdk1.4.2 and configure jpublisher to use this. So far so good except this is not available on some platforms, Windows - 64 bit (not itanium).
The configuration is proving very challenging but will hopefully reap rewards.
(Thought I would give you some background to my experience).
Anyway my question to you is having looked at Jdeveloper it appears to do almost anything except consume services into the database, also with Java now being at version 1.5 outside the database for 10gR2 and supporting 1.4 inside, do you see some alignment of these in future database releases?
Finally off to buy your book now as no doubt there is a huge amount more to learn.
    Kind Regards

  • Connecting to Oracle 7.3.3.4 using JDBC

    Hi all,
I found the below info in the Oracle JDBC FAQ. My questions are:
    1. Is there any chance for me to connect to my 7.3.3.4 database server using any JDBC drivers? If yes, what version of drivers to use?
    2. Is it true that to connect to an Oracle database, I can ONLY use JDBC drivers from Oracle and no where else?
    Thanks!
    Rgds,
    Alvin
JDBC 7.3.4 drivers can talk to RDBMS 7.3.4.
JDBC 8.0.4 drivers can talk to RDBMS 8.0.4 and 7.3.4.
JDBC 8.0.5 drivers can talk to RDBMS 8.0.5, 8.0.4 and 7.3.4.
    JDBC 8.0.6 drivers can talk to RDBMS 8.0.6, 8.0.5, 8.0.4 and 7.3.4.
    JDBC 8.1.5 drivers can talk to RDBMS 8.1.5, 8.0.6, 8.0.5, 8.0.4 and 7.3.4.
    JDBC 8.1.6sdk drivers can talk to RDBMS 8.1.6sdk, 8.1.5, 8.0.6, 8.0.5, 8.0.4 and 7.3.4.
    JDBC 8.1.6 drivers can talk to RDBMS 8.1.6, 8.1.6sdk, 8.1.5, 8.0.6, 8.0.5, 8.0.4 and 7.3.4.

I used the following code to call a stored
    procedure via SQLJ:
    try {
    #sql [iCtx] {
    CALL ibs.cvs_validate.validate_port_id(:IN record_id ,:IN poe_pod_flag,:IN port_id,:OUT error_code,:OUT error_message) };
    where
    "ibs" is the schema
    "cvs_validate" is the package
    "validate_port_id" is the procedure
The code runs fine, but to get it to compile
in JDeveloper 2.0, I had to disable the "Check SQL semantics against database schema" option on the Project Properties (SQLJ) property sheet.

  • Can't mount oracle database on linux system

This is same as previous posting just added
e-mail and username info fo forum posting.
I am not able to mount an Oracle database.
I am new to Oracle and am working on an Oracle8i installation on an
Intel Linux Suse 6.3 platform. I am using only one harddrive and am
not using the 4 mount points as mentioned for efficiecy purposes in
the Oracle documentation..I am using the installation cd from Oracle8i
for Linux Starter Kit by Oracle Press. If anyone has this book they
can refer to pages 41-44 for the examples I followed.
As sysdba in sqplplus using the STARTUP command I can not Mount the
database -step 2 of the 3 stage process (Start, Mount and Open the
database) of opening an Oracle database.
I show the errors I encountered when I did the first 2 of the 3 steps
in the step-by-step mode (STARTUP NOMOUNT pfile=, ALTER DATABASE
MOUNT) in the sqlplus session and alert log respectively with startup
nomount and alter database mount for this sqlplus session.
Additionally I show the init.ora file lines referring to control file
which seem to be referred to by the sqlplus error messages and the
alert.log file. Perhaps some can give me some advice as what I can try
    to fix this problem.
At the end of this e-mail I added several questions I had in regard to the control

This resulted in about a dozen such files in
    different directories as shown below:

but that is all that is said about it. Perhaps

It's probably not supported on RHEL5/Centos5/etc., but...
You can get the installer to function using the following steps:
    - extract the cal_linux_*.tar.gz, and cd into the OracleCalendar_inst directory
In there is the actual installer, cal_linux.
    - the cal_linux is shell script wrapped around some binary blobs. The installer's
problem is that Oracle is setting the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5 environment
variable, which is a mistake on RHEL5. You need to make it not set that variable,
but you need to do so in a way that the size of the shell script does not change at all,
and none of the binary blobs are impacted.
    - the approach I took was
    mv cal_linux cal_linux.BAK
    sed -e 's/LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.2.5/LD_ASSUME_KERNEL= /g' < cal_linux.BAK > cal_linux
    chmod a+rx cal_linux
    cal_linux -i gui
Note: you must have exactly 5 spaces in the substitution part of the sed command, because you're replacing 5 characters (2.2.5), and the size of the shell script must not change.
If you do that, the installer should run (one warning from awk still) and you should be able to install the product.
